I liked Darren Jones until he was elected on a Jeremy Corbyn Socialist 2017 manifesto, then threw the 2019 election by helping a far right Labour Party within a party, Britain First. Then when the '19 was lost, he blamed the public not liking the manifesto, which was a lie and didn't mention the contrived moral panic as the real reason. Very sneaky. He's a far right Blairite, however good he is as Chair of the Business Committee.

Darren Jones is excellent as Chair of this select committee. He uses his legal training effectively every time he speaks. Clear, succinct and straight on target.

Shapps is right when he suggests you can take a different slice of the data and get a better result for the UK. But what is true is that you cannot come to a select committee on financial growth without data (that is insane). You cannot blame our economic misfortune entirely on Putin (that is disingenuous), and you cannot ignore poor policy decisions on energy, Liz Truss's disastrous tenure as PM, and the impact of Brexit on the economy.

Whilst I agree that he did well and raised good points, I think it's one thing being on the select committee and getting to ask the government in power prescient questions, though I think it's a different thing to say that based from that single performance he could be PM... It's probably more telling because the current labour leadership is about as inspiring as a damp cloth. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy accountability, I just find it strange how everyone is basically saying he could be PM... Isn't it that type of reactionary thinking which got us in this current mess we're in? 🤔
This should be required of viewing for all journalists because they need to learn how to question politicians and make them accountable

The reason all these people aren't returning to the workforce is that with wages falling and working conditions deteriorating, *it's not worth their while!* Oh and you letting the NHS fall to pieces means that those who get sick of injured don't get treated for months or years... meaning misery and poverty growing rapidly across the country. Not that you give a toss about that of course. Your only problem is that they can't generate profits for your rich mates.
Not only that, he goes on about record low unemployment, but worse than ever living standards …whats the point of getting employed if peoples wages wont page bills?
Imo the reason many 50+ aren't returning to work is because they realised during the pandemic the workplace is BS!!!

If we consider the simple fact a lot of employed people are running up debt trying to heat their homes and can barely put food on the table. You can count them as employed but they are barely making it by they don't have a good standard of living. That is not even mentioning the fact wages since what 2008 have not moved at all so in real terms people are losing their spending power. The Tories operate in fucking economic la la land they'll some fucking stupid vague statistic and think that, that statistic wins the argument. It's primary school level economics with the Tories.... If the Tories want a more accurate statistic reflecting our current economic situation they should look at the number of working people in poverty. Or as its known the working poverty statistic its horrendously high.....

If Angela Rayner and Darren Jones had a baby I think it would come out like Judge Judy. These Labour MPs are like dogs with a bone and I love it! I think with someone like Darren Jones MP, they show how we need to push for MPs that represent us and also for more campaigning and awareness on who these MPs are in our constituencies. Darren Jones is among only a small number of MPs that attend these conference questionings that put the government and businesses to question with appropriate questioning.
He attended because he is chair of this committee and I believe only committee members get to put questions to the government in these select committee processes. If other MPs aren't attending, it's not because they're lazy it's because there are cross party representatives delegated to this office.
We need complete reform of the political system in the UK.

Those who turn up quoting figures they "don't have here" or "don't know off the top of my head", etc. are just those who get paid a fortune, but are too lazy or arrogant to even bother to prepare, beforehand, to _actually do_ the job they are being paid that fortune to do.
Could you imagine if that was an employee defending his performance in an industrial tribunal ? They would be charged with contempt of court and given community service or a jail sentence!!

Grant Schapps makes my blood boil..He is a hypocrite.During the Controversial goings on at with that C E O at P and O Ferries last year .Schapps was offering sympathy towards all of those employees whom were dissmissed .By abusing his authority. But when he was Minister for Transport .He had the temerity to say on UK Radio .Saying that all Rail employees are being well paid .This man is reprehensible !
