    • I wish the newer version just updated this 114270 and did away with the other changes. Ideal watch would be a slightly updated bracelet (keep the hollow links, add a micro adjust, no to the aggressive taper, no to 19 mm), update the mvmt, update the lume, no to the font changes. The problem with the new explorer is that it is distinctly less classical-looking to my eye. It looks more bulbous at its head and the aggressive taper gives a feminine look to a decidedly masculine sports watch. I just don't understand why they did what they did

  • I love the elegance of the 36 but I picked up the Explorer 40 just after my wedding and I absolutely love it. I’d tried on the 36 several times in the months leading to my purchase, but I just fell in love with the 40 and it’s been my daily wear ever since. From surfing to business meetings - it’s never not been the right thing to have on my wrist. Not too flashy, not too casual, I’ve not regretted picking it up or wished I’d purchased any other watch. Though I still want a Santos at some point…

But your point about sizing is spot-on; it’s entirely a personal thing as to what size you prefer. If the newest 36mm had been available at the time I bought my 39, I would have gone back and forth, but I love how that particular watch looks ON ME. That being said, I think THIS video helped me realize that my next purchase is going to be the Medium Cartier Santos when I go back to Japan this year; that’s the one my heart is telling me is the one for me.

  • Short story- mid 2015, my late dad and me are checking out watches, Seiko off course 🤷🏼‍♂️. I am blown away by the Astron Sse060, yet I’m mumbling “ahh, too expensive, this will never happen”.. Start of 2016, I’m on a hospital bed in the cardiac intensive care, after having a full heart attack, and a life saving procedure. My dad sits on the bed and says two things- first, “you’re a bum and that’s why it happened to you”. (I’m not, honestly😉) Secondly, “I bought you a watch for your 40th birthday”, and he showed me on his phone what he ordered for me. My dad is gone now. That watch is my most prized material possession. That’s the piece that ignited the passion, and starting a collection with that piece was my way to respect and continue his passion.

  • I bought one of the new 36mm Explorers a few months ago after a 6 month wait. Love it. I have to force myself not to wear it so that my other watches don’t get too sad. My only minor gripe is timekeeping. My other watches are Omega and they all only ever gain 1-2 seconds a day. My Explorer loses 1-2 secs a day, which feels significant compared to the Omegas. I find myself constantly checking how “slow” it is when in reality it’s irrelevant.

  • When you’re referring to accuracy, how do you measure that? Is it an average per day over X amount of days or weeks? Because over time (no pun intended) these watches typically “smooth out” their accuracy. This compared to the volatility of the first day or so when freshly wound. Also do you find wearing it keeps it more accurate and when first wound it runs faster than let’s say 2 or 3 days in?

  • I recently bought (then returned) a 114270. Your video’s definitely encouraged me at the time I was looking into one. Ultimately I let it go because it wasn’t in the condition I wanted (too overpolished). However, I noticed some things that bother me. It’s not really a strap monster like people say. The lug holes are SO close to the case there’s no way to easily fit 3rd part straps. Sure you could get angled spring bars but I felt like the angle of the spring bar tips would eat away at the lugs over time. Also, there’s basically no AR like you said. Lastly, it’s a bit plain, which I know is the selling point for symmetry lovers. After a month with it I let it go, but videos like yours sure make me reconsider!

    @aaronmercado9874@aaronmercado98743 ай бұрын
    • Actually, you dont really need curved spring bars. I used thinner spring bars and it works for nato straps without scratching/destroying them. But you are right, its not a strap monster as it takes some effort to remove the bracelet..

      @yusufbest4475@yusufbest44753 ай бұрын
    • @@yusufbest4475 Oh nice, I did not think about trying thinner spring bars. I'm sure that helps it with some nato straps, maybe thicker ones would still get frayed? And curious if that would also impact leather straps getting scraped by the case as well. I can understand from Rolex's perspective that they only want you to use the bracelet, which is a great bracelet. However, I just enjoy the freedom to change things up every now and then.

  • I'm currently on "the list" for the new Explorer 40mm, eagerly anticipating the call from my authorized dealer any moment now. Upon trying on the 36mm variant in-store, I found it to be too small for my wrist, which measures 7.2 inches in circumference. While I acknowledge that the ideal watch size is largely subjective, I personally find that the 36mm model appears disproportionately small on many wrists. Additionally, for individuals with a taller and more robust physique (such as myself), a slightly larger watch tends to complement the wrist more harmoniously - again, this is my subjective assessment. Anyways, regardless of size, I adore the Explorer. It epitomizes the perfect everyday watch, and anyone fortunate enough to own one should count themselves truly blessed. Thank you for the excellent video, it's always a pleasure to listen to your insightful (and funny) comments.

    • I am of a similar physical disposition (from the sound of it) and agree. I ended up getting an Explorer II 226570, but if the Explorer 40 had been out when I went on the list, I might have gone for that. I liked the old 39mm too. I like that people have a choice now. If you're a bigger size or prefer bigger watches, get the 40. If not, get the 36. Can't we all just get along?

  • Which one would you purchase now if you had to choose, 114270 or 124270 ?

    @Nakkisampyla@NakkisampylaАй бұрын
  • Was wearing my 124270 when I ran across this video, which is not shocking because there’s a 90%+ everyday that it makes it’s way on my wrist. I love it! It’s by far the most comfortable watch I own (well…except a smaller G-Shock I own…) Regarding the bracelet on the newest 36mm reference, a lot of people fail to mention that the CLASP is 16mm…yes the bracelet tapers to 14mm, but the CLASP is still 16mm. So, logically, if you have a watch that has a bracelet which has, say, a 20mm to 16mm taper (which basically everyone loves…) with a butterfly deployant clasp…well that is going to wear the same as the bracelet on the 124270, except around the articulation creases of your wrist it’s 14mm, which only enhances the comfort IMO, but stops short of looking “odd” regarding proportions. Watch nerds comments. Yes.

  • Not big on Rolex personally, but nice watch. Curious as to your choice to feature directly in the videos now, similar to some other channels making that change. Is it to build your brand or personal profile? Or for events recognition perhaps? Ps it would be helpful if you told everyone your wrist size...😅

  • It’s crazy how much smaller the case looks on a strap compared to the bracelet.

  • I just became recently infatuated with the explorer and watched Britt Pearce' videos about it! I think they definitely look a tiny bit bigger on bracelets because of the end links and really makes the full lug-to-lug width more pronounced on top of the wrist. With the same strategy, larger case sizes can feel a tiny bit slimmer on a strap too. (like with 42mm-44mm divers and chronographs)

  • Great review of a great watch. If I could buy one, I would probably go for the older 14270 because I prefer female end links.

  • True no one can tell you what’s the best size “for you”. Own lots large watches myself but for some design I prefer small. SMP300 I went 36mm midsize, Reverso I went 23x38 and Santos I just prefer 29mm. I just can’t tell you why. They just feel right, for me.
