Tatis sitting near the infield while a coach is being ejected is the biggest t-ball mood I’ve seen and I’m all about it.
All it’s missing is wearing the glove as a hat

Nah... in t-ball the field wouldn't be as manicured so he'd probably be blowing on dandelions.
He was waiting for the trainer to bust out the Capri-Suns.
This little 4 post thread got me rolling over here!
“I’m sorry I didn’t play the entire game” is the most gut-wrenching autograph message I have ever seen in my entire life
It’s so perfect.
I literally still cry when I see that tweet to this day. I can't not cry tears of joy for that girl and for Joey.
Gut wrenching? Really? Ya’ll are soft as hell
Why'd it get so dusty in here all of a sudden?
@Fajowski50 yeah man, being an emotionless husk is waaaay cooler!

Imagine the experts discussing this signed baseball on Antiques Roadshow in 70 or 80 years....very unique, one-of-a-kind souvenir.
The manager getting ejected is an actual issue, the situation completely deescalated and was dead, and the ump went "you know what, let's just kick the shit back up, see what happens"
All those umps should lose their jobs. Anyone else would be fired if they handled their jobs this poorly.
@@randy2152 You've clearly never been in a union.
How many minutes did it add to the game when MLB is worried about pace of play? Once everything is descelated, I agree there shouldn't be anymore ejections.

Cheers to Joey for being nice to the little girl. She’ll remember that forever.

This video is a masterpiece. The crazy situation, the breakdown, the inside scoop on the Votto / little girl interaction, the interview clip with the dramatic slow zoom, and then the face-pasting promo at the end with a perfect Votto head tilt to close. I mean, this whole thing belongs in a museum or an awards show.
Settle down, Matt. It's not THAT great. lol
Not as great as the Olympic wrestler's crew doing a striptease show for the crowd. Not even close!

This video is like a three-part miniseries. Ejection, little girl, and introspective interview. Well done. I would be jumping up and down just like the little girl if Joey Votto ever talked to me. Intelligent, thoughtful, and quirky as hell. There’s nobody quite like Votto.
So..yeah. Happy Father's Day everyone!

I haven’t got the slightest idea or interest in baseball but find myself watching your baseball videos time and time again. You my good Sir are an interesting and entertaining man
Hey, Jomboy, I was late to this one, but fun breakdown - made me laugh. Hey, I was wondering - how is it that this tradition of throwing people out of the game got started in baseball? I can’t think of of any other sport where coaches or players routinely and arbitrarily get thrown out of games. In hockey, you can actually get in a fist fight with another player, and just get a penalty. In soccer, you have the yellow/red card thing, and basketball has the foul-out, but those are fairly objective rules. Baseball is kinda nuts that coaches can call time to argue with the ump, and then the ump just arbitrarily decides to toss you. Anyway, I was just thinking about it - might be a fun video to do a breakdown of the history of baseball ejections.
There are ejections like this in the NFL as well, although they are very rare. Soccer red cards can also be fairly arbitrary, there are definitely players that have been thrown out for arguing with the ref. I do agree that baseball's ejections seem more arbitrary but it's because, in my opinion, baseball is more of a subjective game. The ump decides calls and strikes, but since those aren't a tangible thing (as in, there is no argument in basketball over whether or not the ball went through the hoop, everyone can see it, but it's much harder to visualize a strike zone in real time), so arguments start because players disagree with the ump's calls. I think that's what started the rules about ejecting players that annoyed the umps too much, because otherwise players would be able to yell at umps all day to get calls their way.
Sometimes I think of these moments like what happens in hockey. there always has to be a fight and it's been woven into the tradition of hockey. like this has been woven into the tradition of baseball ....arguing with the umps

1st: Imagine paying $200 to see a game, then talking shit to the players that are making millions to play baseball, then getting tossed out of the park in the first inning, and thinking you are cool somehow. 2nd: if you're going to eject someone, at least give them the little arm fling 3rd: Joey Votto is much cooler than I expected
Paying money doesn’t entitle you to verbally abuse the players on the field. Just because you paid a lot of money for your seat means you have to act appropriately.

The umps gotta leave their emotions out of the game. Home plate umpire provoked the whole thing. Almost ruined that little girls day. I’m glad she got the the signed ball and tickets. Her face when Joey is signing things for her is adorable, lol.
In this case, Joey is arguing balls and strikes, since the check swing qualifies under this rule. As Rule 8.02(a)'s Comment says, umpires are supposed to warn any player, manager, or coach who leaves his position to argue balls and strikes, which seems to have happened here with the home plate umpire. It isn't a matter of feelings, it's a matter of maintaining order in the game.
