Review: Chris Harris drives the new Porsche 911 GT3 | Top Gear
Petrolheads, assemble: it’s a new Porsche 911 GT3. Which is basically like saying ‘it’s a new Bowie album’ to the music nerds. This is benchmark sports car, the one by which the steering feel, chassis composure and engine response of every other supposed supercar on the market is measured against. The 992 GT3 gets a racecar engine, a ginormous wing and a rather special new knob. And this is what happens when Chris Harris is tasked with running that glorious 4.0-litre flat-six engine in, just so he can open the taps and spank it around a track.

I see you posted this video on a certain Austrian's birthday, yah? _Deutschland über alles!_ 😁
Top gear just became Chris Harris on Cars, which is fine with me. BBC just give the man his own show and tons of $$ please and thank you
100%
Top Gear as it is was already long dead before the old guys left, and now it just feels like poking a corpse... Except for these Chris Harris bits! ❤️
Agree. A fan of Freddie but can't stand Paddy. So hard to watch that show when 2 of the 3 don't really know what they're on about. Still persisting with the same format as Clarkson, May and Hammond just doesn't work either.
@@WatanabeNoTsuna. we want the old boyz back
@@WatanabeNoTsuna. you can argue the smartest thing to do were videos like this until they add a quality cohost one by one.
this man single handedly keeps the show alive. He is the only one with original lines
Amen to that
The other two are completely useless. I don’t watch top gear because of them. I don’t think any genuine petrol head does anymore!
racing lines 😜
I honestly can't understand the other two half the time...
Need to fuck the other 2 off. I like them both in their own right but not as car journalists. Chris Harris is being cheapened by the stupid antics too. Let him be a nerd. He's the modern Tiff Nedell. Give him another charismatic co presenter (sabine was always the perfect candidate and I said it as soon as Chris came to Top Gear) stop trying to replicate the Clarkson Hammond and may dynamic and let things develop naturally.
Why do they still make top gear like they do? Why can't we just have Chris Harris every week and have it filmed like this. This is honestly one of the best short films I've seen! Bloody good work to the lads and lasses who made this.
The other format brings more than just petrol heads. I have quite a few friends who aren't into cars and my 93 year old grandmother who found interest because of it. that kind of entertainment.
The “nitty gritty, geeky car journalism” is by far more preferable to the other stuff. Harris driving fast cars on the road just talking. Very watchable.
Not for the masses, Top Gear became an entertainment program for people who arent into cars
So glad they went back to the Chris + Neil format for this one. On the internet it works so much better than the 'jazz hat' studio stuff.
I was about to say the same. What a pair those two! They make magic!

In deed sir
When the OGs left Top Gear I said immediately he would be a perfect fit and it was because of Chris Harris on Cars.
I almost forgot it is a "Top Gear" as soon as the video started. It's a great feat that he was able to smuggle such content in here :-)
One of the best motor journalists in one of the best models of the best car manufacturer ^^
100%.
The gear shift up shift mid drift while counter steering was an epic Chris Harris moment. 13:50
I replayed that part again whilst watching the video. The only part of the video I had to watch again. When I seen your comment I knew exactly what you were talking about
that is why professional racers prefer manuals
@@anurag15271 not really a comparison in this case. You wouldn’t up-shift mid drift like he did with a manual.
@@Spartan168 you absolutely can up shift mid drift in a conventional manual.

I'm sorry to spoil your humor but efuels don't make sense from ecological standpoint as they have very low efficiency

They definitely won't be making many more of these... but, on the plus side, Weissach's going out on one hell of a high note.

Fair play to Chris. Despite joining a mainstream motoring show and having to appease the masses he still manages to appeal to the die hard car enthusiast with his delivery of endless knowledge, skill and passion. Few can achieve this.
This is the sort of video I love to see! No tacky scripts no silly ideas about racing a GT3 vs a hot air balloon to Italy. Just Chris driving and enjoying it and sharing his passion for cars with all of us. Please do more content like this!
Chris Harris presenting a love letter to Porsche's GT department. May we have cars like this as long as we possibly can.
EU: "No, you can't have cars like this anymore. But here you have some socialism, genderism and environmentalism."
Is simple get out and vote them in with your money. Electric cars are about nothing else other than special interest.
@UC0ei2fwTJAB9Gt6gD63Z8hw And this makes the prospect for high performance hybrids like the 918 so much brighter. Koenigsegg appears to be getting in on this game as well with their new Gemera.
Chris has been doing that for soooooooooo long! I don't blame him tho.. Their GT products r fantastic proposition for the money
And that's why he gets to do the run in.
Big props to Top Gear for making a 19-minute CH video and putting it on KZhead.
Man that transition @ 13:50 was top notch! I love how Chris can articulate all of the feelings and aspects of a car while running it flat out.
No dramatic music, no dramatic editing. Just Chris Harris talking about the car along with the engine roaring in the background. PERFECT
Just give this dude his win show. And let him do exactly what he wants to do. No gimmicks. Just Harris on Cars
Amen.
This is it- Chris doing what he wants. Just probably not as often as we would like! No point being on TV as hardly anyone would watch it.
not sure what a win show is but sounds good
"When we're all electric, we're gonna miss this" that one hurt a bit.
Well, the world hasn't got enough resources to replace every car for a battery powered one... Never gonna happen, so im curious 🤔
ICEs aren't going away any time soon, there would be riots in the streets.
Too bad oil wars won't let electric cars be the absolute future.
Hurt alot a bit lol.
@@J2I3H The thing is petrol is already being banned in the UK after 2030 and we don't know when the next countries will follow them.
Thank you Porsche for still offering the GT3 with a large high revving naturally aspirated engine plus the option of a manual gearbox in favour of the PDK (which is probably the best of its kind). The sound alone makes it to me more desirable to me than a V8 Ferrari or any McLaren.
That double slide at 13:46 is incredible, what a sound. Unreal.
There are two things we never want to change, the GT3 and Chris Harris ...

I understand this comment. Some crackhead doesn't.
It's a musical instrument. His command of the English language, and ability to use it to describe the car and what he is feeling, is world class. I enjoy the cars, but just hearing him describe them is "episterial".
In times like these, Porsche is one of the only few manufacturers left who still puts quality and heritage over overregulation and costcutting.
Back to the legit Chris Harris geeking out on spring rates and double wishbone suspension. God it’s so much better than the scripted TV!
Took long enough!
I like having both.
Couldn't agree more...
5:25 Decades ago a friend of mine said, "When you arise before the dawn, you own the day". It has stuck with me for many years. I don't know if it is a well known phrase or if he made it up. Anyway, I am up before the dawn almost every day and the feeling of being up and going early really does wonders for my mindset. If you are struggling with a busy mind, or feeling stressed and overwhelmed all the time, go to bed early, get up early and see what happens. Hopefully it will help you too.
Nice one John. I used to cycle years ago and left to ride just before dawn and felt brilliant when seeing the sun come up. You feel truly blessed. Simple things for simple people I suppose. Give me simple every day.
I needed to hear this, thanks
On that page. The air is so sweet, the light so beautiful.

Thank you. Will try this
Really makes your spine tingle when he goes into full passionate mode for how the car drives, awesome vid Chris and film crew.
I've always been a fan of Porsche and especially this sweet thing BUT I've never been so passionate about it like how I am now after listening to Chris talk for 19 minutes. It really feels way more special to me.
“I’m going to miss these things when they don’t make them anymore” Such brilliant journalism. This man makes you feel and we don’t deserve him.
we really dont!
Yes. You can feel the emotions he is experiencing and he conveys them with such ease
@@diavarezable call ME crazy, but I don't think we will ever really go FULLY electric, at least not in our lifetimes. Yes, standard commuter cars and daily-driver cars will likely be all electric in the relatively near future. However, due to there being such a massive and passionate following in motorsports and sports cars in general, manufacturers like Porsche or even Mazda who really care about the driving experience will never leave us behind. Even if emissions restrictions continue to get stricter, there are incredibly smart engineers (hopefully me one day😅) who will do everything they can to keep combustion engines around. And even if legislation dictates that cars must be electric, there would be such a massive protest to it, they would have no choice but to compromise. I don't think we have anything to worry about just yet.
@@Thebadbeaver9 I hope so as well. Personally I don’t get why anyone could complain if you have 99% of the population driving electric and a small population of the world who enjoy combustion engines.

Totally agree, intake noise is better and it is only loud when you open the throttle so it's quiet on the motorway.

@Alpha Bravo Have you ever driven a fast car? Most open throttle is at 0-60 easily.
It wouldnt be quiet on the motorway.
@Alpha Bravo Maybe in Germany. Still a waste of this car though. It needs to be on the roads of the 1970s.
Chris Harris' style is subtle but very enthralling. There's a strong hint of honesty in him. Good job.

You can tell how excited Chris was. He couldn't wait another day to drive the Porsche, even if it meant driving slowly and not sleeping.
I would literally watch a series just of Chris commuting to work.
Chris just cracks me up when he gets into track focused Porsches. He’s like a little kid getting all giggly, lol. What a great review and so calm throughout the drive. Exemplary and a stunning car that I wish I could afford. Thanks

An absolute pleasure for our technician, James, to provide track side tyre replacement during the showcasing of this supreme machine.
Chris, You touch us with your emotional and reverent words that capture what other journalists miss. The SF90 video and this one are a perfect commentary on our times and what we may all be losing. Great video and thank you for what you do. The F40 is still the bad girl I wish I could bed, but the 911 GT3 (RS) is the wife I want to have for the rest of my life. Cheers!

Chris is the only person I’ve heard say it’s more comfortable than the last one, everyone else says it’s worse. Chris has an old one so I trust him over anyone else.
Ahh im not the only one has picked up on this.
He said it's more comfortable at high speed, rougher at slow speeds.
He only said its smoother at the beginning of the film. He does end up saying it's not a smooth car and of course it isn't. It's really nitpicky regardless. The 991.2 GT3 is really not that stiff from my experience. Compared to a Panamera it is but for a sports car its very comfy.

Wish I could drive as well as Chris Harris, reviews are always quality
Spring rate is relative to the suspension design. Previous 911s used cheaper McPherson strut front end. The few benefits of that setup, beyond manufacturing/assembly costs, is, typically, more direct steering feel and a nearly 1:1 effect of the spring on the tire, AKA the spring rate at the wheel. Double wishbone offers dynamic camber gain (keeps tire contact patch stuck to the pavement), but loses the almost 1:1 spring rate to wheel rate factor, hence the stiffer spring rates chosen. Suspension nerds will commonly talk about the "motion ratio" of the springs when building aftermarket coilover setups. All that matters is the spring rate experienced by at the wheel.
Watched Henry Catchpole, Dan Prosser, Matt Farah... All great car journalists which I follow fondly. Yet.. none get close to Chris. This video is magical like many other of his. Moreso with the GT3. It's a combination made in heaven. It really moved me. I dream of someday driving any GT3.
You can rent time on a Porsche gt product. Though honestly, you really need seat time in a lot of other sports cars to really appreciate just how well put together and visceral they are. Why everything is so perfectly balanced. You need context. But if you have context... Spent the couple hundred whatever currencies. It's worth it.

Such a dream car. The NA engine, 9K rpm, the 911 heritage and vision, and the styling on this model are just fantastic. The focus on all the right stuff makes me want this car more than any other car regardless of price (except for the Gordon Murray T50).
not gonna lie got a little emotional. Been watching Chris Harris review the "new" GT3 since I was a teenager.. Great to see him back in his natural habitat. And with this world of electrification, this might very well be a thing of the past.
the old 991 GT3 video is such a masterpiece... the way the sound comes through in the video and the atmosphere of the whole trip is ingrained in my mind.
Is time people vote to keep the special interest of electric cars from taking over completely.
They’ll make a 992.2 but after that it’ll be 2026 maybe and Europe ban on new gasoline engines takes effect 2025 so legally they can’t make a new one best thing they can do is make another one with RWD electric assistant maybe add an extra 100 hp they would have to make the GT3RS even better if they did that tho. Just my thoughts but it’s very sad even Chris knows it’ll be one of the last
The GOLD STANDARD in car journalism. Bravo Chris!
Having driven a 991.2 gt3 rs I can agree with a lot of what Chris said. I really want to get one of these cars for myself. The hardest part apart from the cost is going to be deciding on PDK or manual. The PDK is actually really good and its so fast to drive I'm not sure I want to be meddling with a gear shifter.
