But with his current skill level there is no way for him to expect to defeat the current #1 in the heavyweight division.

Absolute rock bottom and not even listed in the ranks of the first 10 20 0r 50 even . There was to opponents wilder fought when is record was at already 30 0 and one was ranked 200 something and the other 140 something . That is called fraud. As a champion ones camp should always pick a top ten contender otherwise whats the point . Its not like tennis where a wild card and unseated player cans pring a surprise . Heil Fury and here the wilders fans are banging on about loaded gloves . A joke.

  • At his weight and power there is no doubt that Wilder is a handful, but personally I think it has ultimately been his undoing. The quality of the first dozen or so guys he fought was questionable and he never really boxed at all. That lack of ring craft ultimately cost him when he ran into a proper boxer in Fury; Fury was not intimidated by Wilder's power punching and was good enough to take whatever Wilder could throw at him, and then give it back double. In his early fights Wilder had some impressive speed and movement but that seemed to disappear as he grew more and more reliant on knocking opponents out. I think in his last fight with Fury he had begun to realise that he needed more than just a big punch to beat Tyson, and in the early rounds he looked like he was really thinking about his craft. I really think that Wilder's real problem was in the main the lack of decent opponents who had the skills to really box him, and where he could get lots of rounds under his belt and not just rely on his big punch. Compare him to Mike Tyson: Tyson was a massive puncher but he was also a great boxer coached by one of the true greats. When you look at the skills of the boxers that Tyson fought in his early years compared to the guys that Wilder fought, there is absolutely no comparison in terms of boxing skill or quality. I'm not sure that Wilder can learn the necessary ring craft now that would make him effective enough to challenge for the heavyweight crown again - only time will tell, but he is certainly an exciting boxer and significantly contributed to one of the best heavyweight bouts of all time.

    @Mark-sc4bu@Mark-sc4bu2 жыл бұрын
    • I agree there Mark. Credit also to Fury for using his body weight on Wilder in the clinches to tire his legs out. Call it whatever - ring craft, fight I.Q, ect. In any case Fury had it in Spades compared to Wilder's previous opponents.

  • I wanted to see some of Wilders earlier fights after watching the trilogy fight. I noticed that in the first couple round with fury he was working the body and keeping his hands up but when he started to feel like he was winning he stopped listening to the coach and his right hand was down at his waist. That tends to be his go-to. He just drops the right hand and load it up and walk towards them. Poke with the left and throw the right.

  • You can tell he taught himself how to box. Thats what you gotta respect, that someone is that good self taught. Sure he gives up a lot to keep his right hand that strong. He sacrifices defense footwork and well rounded boxing + balance just to be able to fully get all his momentum into that right hand. But that was the game he played and no one could stop it aside from Fury. In my opinion he’s just as good and legendary as guys like Mike Tyson. His dominance was on another level, and the only real dude to stop him may have been the best heavyweight of all time. And wilder was the only dude really who was able to knock him down multiple times. Wilder is underrated because his power is much much different than the greats of the past in the Hw division. No one could put people out like him, not even Tyson had his KO ratio

It's like his development at some point in time just stopped to a crawl, maybe he feel in love too much with his right hand eraser. If he would've continued growing in skill, he would potentially be in a much better standing.

  • Everyone is saying Wilder fights like a bum but what you're not understanding is how much energy he has over everyone else to do so. Throwing big shots like wilder does either causes you do dodge, and the type of dodge isnt a simple slip of the head it's an entire duck. Or if you block, he is heavily damaging your guard. Not only that but he has the KO power and stamina to keep throwing those for 12 rounds. Do you understand how ridiculously dangerous that is? All he has to do is head hunt. You say ts a trash style of boxing but that's legit one of the best ways to get the job done instantly.
