This soup is sooo yummy. I also made it with chicken instead of tuna. Where I come from (Johannesburg South Africa) tuna steaks costs almost double as much as ribeye steaks. So I used chicken and for the potatoes I actually used turnips instead. I fried the chicken with the mushrooms and garlic with some fresh thyme stalks in a seperate pan and added a slight touch of red pepper flakes. It came out sooo delicious and wholesome. I'll definitely make it again
Thanks for your recipe! I will make this soup with chicken too.
Thanks for the substitution suggestion
My pleasure 😊🌸. Hope it turns out delicious for you 💓
Did you use chicken chest ??
I used chicken breast yes 😊. But, I do believe that chicken thighs will possibly even give better flavour, but perhaps it might have to go back into the soup earlier then 🌸
I did this recipe exactly how it was shown. It’s such a comfort food. It feels like a warm blanket on a cold winter day in a cabin. I’ve sent this video to my friends to encourage them to make it with not only tuna, but trout, and other fresh water fish.
Salmon would probably be good too.
I made this soup for my neighbor who was just diagnosed with cancer. I didn’t put any meat, but I did add kale and green cabbage. Instead of cream, I use sour cream. I mashed some of the potatoes and put it back in the soup to thicken it. My neighbor ate it and texted me and said it was delicious!! Thank you for the video.
Looks a lot like the Icelandic tuna soup. Use the back of the knife to scrape in the ingredients ! It will keep the knife sharp !
Looks delicious. I will try it. 😋 Edit: we had it yesterday. With chicken breast instead of tuna - I couldn’t find any fresh tuna. We added bits of my homemade sourdough bread in our bowls. It was excelllent, I highly recommend it.
Thanks for the idea with chickens. I think, fish and mushrooms... It's not for me. Really, I'll try. ❤
The chicken breast version sounds delicious. I am not a fan of tuna....
I'd eat th shit outta that! Wouldn't you?
Well canned tuna work in place of raw tuna. Cant find any fresh tuna. Geena
Czy można dać inną rybę, tuńczyka trudno kupić
I am making this for my fiancé tonight for dinner. Using 6 cups chicken stock instead of 8 cups water, using cod and haddock instead of tuna (tuna is very expensive in New England, USA). It smells delicious! We might add a bit of rice to the soup to thicken it up a bit. The fish breaks up beautifully in the soup, such a nice change from our traditional New England Fish Chowder. 👍🏻
So you didn't make this. Changing the ingredients makes it a different recipe.
@englishatheart Okay, then what did they make instead? Do you have a name for it? Don’t be a purist, you can change up ingredients without it being an entirely different dish. You sound like an Italian or Frenchman when you say stuff like that. I guess you’re not “English at heart.”

I'm recovering from illness and gave this to my husband to make. He is learning to fix nutritional meals and was able to follow the video. The soup is sensational. Great tutorial. Thank you.
I believe this soup is great, but your husband even more.
What do you mean: he is learning to fix nutritional meals. As opposed to cooking with ketchup? Every meal is nutritional, ain't it? Did u mean to say healthy meals?
She probobly means nutrient dense meals.
We call it creamed fish soup in Norway, and yes it is tasty! There is no such thing as cream soup up here, as we put cream in basically everything lol
Sounds like heaven for a dairy lover like me....
I've wondered where my family's love of cream (and anything dairy) came from. We must have inherited it from my Norwegian great-grandmother 💙
Wondering about using water packed canned tuna? I'm on an island and can't get fresh tuna. Have you used canned before?
@@peleeprepper It's a fish soup, I think it will taste differently with tuna which has a less "fishy" taste.
Every time I discover foods that are common where my ancestors lived I think to myself “that’s exactly the kind of stuff I eat on the regular” I’ve never seen this recipe before but it looks yummy
It is not a norwegian dish. We do not eat this regularly at all.❤
My daddy was quite proud of his Norwegian ancestry. I’ll be making this wonderful recipe soon 😊
Are you (and is he) American by any chance?? 😂😂 I’m sure you will be. It’s a standing joke to the rest of the world how obsessed Americans are by saying they are “part” another nationality, just cause their ancestors were. Even though they don’t speak the language and most have never even been to said country. We ALL have ancestors from different nationalities/cultures. But nobody claims to be that except Americans, who seem obsessed with saying they’re “Irish” or “Italian” or something 😂😂 it’s a standing joke worldwide at this point that they do this 😂
@@ashleighmackenzie8670 I have found that kind of awareness of ancestry in all countries! I think it is even more understandable that a nation made entirely from immigrant populations looks back toward where their antecedants originated. This is only a problem if ancestry is used to promote discrimination.
Thank you, Sunnie, for this comment. We Americans are very proud of our ancestry. You don't need to speak a language to identify with that culture. @Ash: It's also a standing joke in America that the rest of the world doesn't understand America.
@@ashleighmackenzie8670 The commenter said nothing about being “part” anything, or claiming that they “are” Norwegian. They merely stated that they were proud of their Norwegian ancestry. My grandmother was Swedish, and I’m pretty proud of all her family went through to immigrate, too. I’m also proud of my extended family currently in Sweden. Doesn’t make me Swedish, and certainly doesn’t make your snarky comment any less hateful or offensive.
Im a actual norwegian chef and this is not really a norwegian dish, no norwegian would use water or tuna in a fish soup, the common fish is cod and salmon and it's usually made from a base made with clams steamed in white wine, the bs in this video is a lie..
The only thing this soup is missing is a really good hearty piece of buttered bread!!!!! Looks yummy and I’m going to try to make it.
Preferably a basic HOMEMADE crusty bread! I bought the makings for this soup today! 😊
i make a lot of soup recipes and created my own, but never have I seen anyone mix the egg into the cream like that before adding to soup! Very interesting! I can't wait to try it!
I made this soup today without de tuna and extra mushrooms. Delicious. I also served it with kaiserbrötchen and homemade garlicbutter😊

Looks awesome and easy to follow! Will certainly try it with my family. Thank you so much for sharing!
Never use the sharp edge of the knife to scrape the ingredients into the pot, always use the back side, you dull the sharp edge very quickly if you don’t. 👍
Think it depends also on what type of surface your cutting board is, too.🤔 One can use a 'bench scraper' to do that job.
I finally figured out not to use the sharp edge of the knife to gather up food. It took me a few years. Great soup recipe, I would thicken it a little more and use oysters, clams and shrimp instead of tuna. I made a seafood chowder like this for Christmas Eve and everyone loved it.

Yes I was thinking the same, these ingredients were fine but as much as I like Tuna,(in a Sandwich,Pasta or Salad)I didn't see the need here..But this did look like a nice Soup!

I wonder how new a soup this is in Norway. Because most of my family still live there & they have not seen this soup. Most of the old recipes never used chili peppers. But it looks good except for that. Of course my husband who grew up in Asia would love the chili added.
Looks yummy 😋 I'll give it a try. I also like the pot you used.
This looks delicious. My mom isn't a fan of tuna, so I"m glad to see that people have had success using chicken, which I'll probably try. I'd also maybe add some corn for a variation. I do love chowders so I'll have to try the original at some point too!
I'm considering making this with bean curd and plant milk bc my partner's a vegan and this looks like it could work.
And here in Russia they make such a soup with chicken. And they add melted cheese. And you can experiment with vegetables - broccoli, Brussels sprouts, green peas, green beans. Who loves what.
@animequeen78 if cashews are affordable for you and you have a decent blender, there are lovely creamy cashew-based vegan soups out there! There are also vegan chowder recipes that use plant milk. I'd love to hear how it goes if you adjust this recipe, though! I've had lots of success making vegan substitutions in recipes.
@@animequeen78 If you are replacing everything with everything anyway, just look up asian soup recipes that use these ingredients anyway. Or don't pretent you are making this soup, but a different vegetable soup with tofu, instead.
