The Merkava Mk.2D in War Thunder is a Premium Tank for Israel. This is the only Modern MBT to have its power plant mounted in the front of the tank. For War Thunder this means a little more protection for the active crew members but it does mean most shots that go through will immobilize you!
This is definitely a unique tank and it requires a different play style to most other MBT's. It's big, it's tall but the turret is pretty low profile and offers a smaller silhouette when peaking over hills.
The Merkava Tank is certainly unique but is it any good?

People often are mistaken as the merkava is not in fact an APC... yes it could possibly carry 6 people... but it is where the ammo is stored so you would have to take the ammo out and only have 10 rounds in the ready rack for a mk 4 for example. It is in fact only used in an emergencey which they can put a stretcher inside and evacuate the casualty

From what I have read it is situational whether they carry dismounts. Apparently one of Merkavas in the 2006 conflict was damaged by a mine and had 7 personnel aboard. With the variety of conflict types Israel has had, the ability to have dismounts over more main gun ammo can be quite useful, particularly if you have to deal with enemy ATGM's rather than MBT's.
I love it when you call enemy/friendly players psycho/insane/crazy/mad because the way you make it sound sounds like you are genuinely confused and also concerned for them at the same time, Almost like Obiwan saying "Don't try it" to Anakin in their duel.

The XA-38 Grizzly is now 3.7 and a lot of fun as a result. Great to take with the M4A5 RAM.
had a standoff with this thing, i was in the German t-72 and the other guy in this Merkava, i don't know why he was unable to pen my turret but we shot like 10 rounds at each other and nothing was accomplished, its insane how often rounds bounce of the Merkava's
you can thank gaijin retarded volumetric system. irl a round would normally go through a merk at one point but in warthunder bounce or shatter because it ever so slightly clips a piece of armour when in reality it would just keep going

merkava is an amazing tank.. i have the American 3D.. i had to use it for some tasks .. and i love it.. even with the stock heat..i manage to get 1-2 kills. amazing tank

I have this merkava and really the only thing keeping it back from competing is the reload rate, 7.1s aced - on par with t-72 platform. all that is pretty funny because there were several bug report about the reload rate citing multiple documents and including a lot of videos of potenrial reload rate, all of them shot down by gaijin because those weren't credible sources. no wonder why izraeli winrates are about 40% in top tier
Its 6.7 seconds aced* and the tank is really good, but the fact the merkavas deserve an actual model update with its armour as they seem like glass cannons especially mk4

If it’s not Russian or German ground, or Russian or American Air It’s not a priority, nor do they care to fix things Look at the C1 Ariete It should have better armor then the Type 90 and the T-64 But it has barely better armor then the Type 10 and no hull armor other then a minor spaced plate, when it should have composite The fact that they won’t let you add the PSO and WAR kits like it could IRL And the fact that they get moved up even though they only get a round that is already comparable to others It’s just dumb Same goes for the air, and for France, China, Japan and, like y’all have pointed out, Israel

There is something called Namer which is an APC converted from Merkavas. They use that space for transport. But Merkavas themselves, while they COULD pick up people, were not designed as IFV/APCs that's where ammo normally goes.
I actually discovered removing the mine protection modification on the bottom of tank actually helps with mobility quite a bit

Bawz, trust me when I say when you get 8.7 or 9.0 matchmaker in a 9.3 vehicle you can get some crazy lasting games; there's no drones to waste people's spawnpoints so more people spawn, and there's usually a lot of russian vehicles going around trying to kill everyone. I've been having a good time with the german T-72 and the M48 Super together with the begleit, you can get some really tough fights when there's Battle mode as well! Give the 9.3 matchmaker another shot, it's probably the last BR bracket before top-tier falls apart because of lack of players

I started playing warthunder in 2023. The air arcade was very fun, but I am also getting good results in ground realistic.

I really like the look of the tank and wanted to buy it but didn't cause yea it would of been the only tank I got of that tree. In other game they call this tank the door wedge or roof shingle.
2D is a decent tank. It’s too bad it is a bit below average overall, when combining mobility and survivability.

First battle, I absolutely hate that map, the second the enemy controls B when your top spawn, that's it the end the game is over.
they spawn in last second to get another kill and their protection lasts to the end of the game.
I call it a "spite kill". It's more fun when you can do what OddBawZ mentioned ages ago in a video and do it with something like the German sig, get yourself a god mode award for some lions ^^
if you shoot at all your spawn protection only lasts like 5 seconds

they need to give the US Merkava Mk.2B the M413 shell. Its also pretty sad how slow the Merkavas in general are now after the traction changes to tracks. You have better grip but for some reason across the board and especially noticeably on the Merkavas, you accelerate way slower now and you are lucky if you even hit your top speed (which is slow) on a slight downhill. On level ground you arent gonna see it anymore. You used to be able to reliably hit top speed on level ground.

Saw some Merkavas rolling when I visited Israel a few years back, very cool looking vehicle. Kind of look like a Soviet tank with the silhouette and wide hull but definitely had Western DNA in it.

The Merkava is no real APC the hatchet on the back was in the orignial design only for stocking up on ammunition in our out of battle, for source you can watch the video of the German Tank museum in munster they explain it very good altough you probably have to use a translator
It kind of is. The ammo could be removed in favor of stretchers for wounded soldiers.
it can carry a stretcher and function as a ambulance, but its not recommended to do that

Take out the loudest gun in the game, the Puma, now it is at BR 9.7 and see if it still is a good tank. I think the BR upgrade was to remove the Puma from the game.
Most 9.0-9.7 tanks have some of the features of 10.0 tanks, but also some deficiencies, like the T-72's glacial reverse and the Kpz-70's weak armor. This one just has all the 10.0 features at a lower BR; it's got decent armor, good 105mm rounds, decent agility, tolerable straight-line speed, thermal sight, and even LWS. What is it doing at 9.3?

I wish 9.3 was down tier central for me. I am almost always getting a up tier when I play 9.3 or 8.3. I see a lot of these Merks but not as much as XM-1's and AM-1's at 8.3.

Yea I think you're just lucky as hell with BR placement lol. I get nothing but uptiers in this thing, and when it sees a Turms, it's only strength over most other mbts (survivability with the engine) becomes a con. The spall is a one hit kill the majority of the time when it hits basically anywhere. It's another case of a tank that doesn't seem to fit at any BR.
Sometime ago 15 or so years I watched a documentary article on the History Channel in America. A beautiful redheaded Israeli Soldier was talking about her Merkava and described how the engine and transmission provided Armour protection for the crew and passengers in the back overall.!

Merkava isn’t an APC by any means. If you remove the ammo it can carry i think 4 stretchers for wounded personell, but to actually carry infantry? No, almost unheard of in any circumstances.
The Merkava Mk.1 is an amazing sniper.

If you take your vehicle into a high enough br you will get the god mode achievement for every kill which awards 30000sl but it has to be at least 5 levels above the vehicles br or something e.g. tiger 2 to 11.3

8.7-9.7 has, arguably, the coolest and most interesting tank designs And the highest probability of having fully historically accurate in game models and performance, mostly from it being made up of older designs and declassified prototypes Making it the possibly most fun BR range Unfortunately, due to compression, repair costs, and premiums It’s the worst possible BR range to play other then Top Tier Cause even if you run into premiums at 10.0, you can deal with them easily, and you won’t be punished because of others anymore then at say 5.3 or 7.7 Gaijin really has screwed things up for that BR
