    • Before I really got into knowing the BJJ competitive scene I though Bernardo Faria was just a guy who had made an incredibly succesful platform for hosting the best talent in the world. Even the whole "huge honor for me" thing I thought was just because he was meeting his idols. But no, these guys are his peers, he's just that humble and understands that everyone has aspects of their game that are worse than what other people bring on that technique. If I remember right there was a guy he had on one time who was still a brown belt just because he knew that the brown beltin question had the best whatever technique he'd ever seen. Truly one of the most humble and open minded people Ive ever seen

  • As a white belt I can only imagine how profitable a 3 day seminar or even better a solid week of training just the fundamentals with John would be. The way he teaches especially concepts just clicks with me, & my ability to recall the technique or concept vs some other great professors is on a different level. I would love to see John do a entire video stripped down for bjj for self defense. I know that is what got him into it (NYC bouncer), but he is clearly focused on competition which is clear even in his verbage.

If you don't have a good strategy on both bottom and top, you're again not deserved for a purple (which is again what I am), and so forth.

The reason is bc the brain space you use to worry about your next belt is replaced with knowledge of the art of jiujitsu as your skill set gets amplified. Enjoy the journey. Enjoy the art. My coach doesn’t give belts out like other gyms. I rolled with my two buddies who are purple belts and they said I’m at least a 2 stripe blue belt. It’s frustrating because this video is what I’ve been wanting to know so I can strive and focus on getting my blue belt. I train both, Gi for a maybe a year and no Gi for 4 years.

  • I love your stuff Bernado but please invest in some better audio recording gear. It will make all productions so much greater and is so much more appealing to people looking to purchase any of the future BJJ Fanatics vids.

  • Is this video intended to come out from BJJ Fanatics? My BJJ skill is still bits and pieces in a scramble, even though it became much more organized than before after purchasing and watching Danaher's previous videos. I hope I am equipped with a structured knowledge of BJJ skills. Thank you.

  • Damn. I have all of Farias BJJ-videos från BJJ fanatics. I really really love the deep half guard, singel leg and over/under passing. It works great, but I realize I will lever get a blue belt, since I never use this moves. But as a 45 year old gentleman, I really like Farias style.

    • BJJ KIDS, These moves were examples of POSSIBLE necessary skills. If you listen closely, the keys are repeated a few times. 1) Need to escape at will against your peers (other whitebelts), the example was the elbow escape, but other variations / escapes are acceptable. 2) Need to have a bottom game which typically means a solid sweep that you can hit on your peers, but could mean submissions too, the example was Sumi Gaeshi, but a good deep half sweep would be equivalent, assuming you can confidently enter deep half on your peers and then hit the sweep. 3) Need a top game which mean you can pass your peer's guard, example was knee slice, but over/under, double under, etc. are equivalents, assuming you have them dialed in. 4) You need to be dangerous to your peers and have the ability to submit them, the example was Okuri Eri Jime (sliding lapel choke), but other submisions that you can apply at will on your peers would be valid substitutes. Think of these skills / abilities in a more abstract or conceptual manner rather than as a strict syllabus of particular moves and you will better understand what a blue belt should be able to do against his or her peers.
