Far Cry 6 Ray Tracing Comparison ( featuring RT Shadows and Reflections)

This is a native ray tracing implementation and not a reshade mod.
Even with real-time ray tracing still being in it's infancy, I believe RT will become more important with current and coming generation hardware, so I created this channel with the intention of covering ray-traced games. There are plenty of channels doing mainly performance comparisons, my intention is to focus on the visual aspect and make the differences more obvious through my videos.

RT reflections here seem to be fairly low resolution, and apparently don't apply to lakes/ocean water bodies, in a jungle environment where there already aren't that many reflective surfaces. On the other hand, the performance loss doesn't seem that strong compared to other RT titles, and it runs well on AMD hardware.
Low ray count* But are you sure though? All those examples of reflections you showed in the video are supposed to look blurry naturally.
@@loganwolv3393 There are some mirror surfaces which look fairly low res too, like in the car for example at 1:45
that makes sense because ray trace calculation only apply to a certain distance around player - for performance sake. Ocean and large bodies of water is too far away.
Because its partened up with amd lol amd sucks
The only video that has greatly showcased the difference between ray tracing on and off in this game
One thing that Ubisoft always forget is Ambient Occlusion. The cars in this game, especially the underside of it, are lacking most if not all shading.
first thing i noticed that in in-game benchmark and reflections look so odd. Wildlands did AO better.
Dude your channel is very good. I was looking for such comparisons and found your channel. Nice job. Keep going 👍👍
Nice comparison matey! Will be kill counting this very shortly, cannot wait! Ray tracing reflections look very nice too 👍
Nice work, better comparison than most all vid on dxr/rt
Yeah there's definently significant differences both for shadows and reflections. And considering it's not so demanding i think it's well worth it to apply RT in this game.
Ray traced reflections really aren't that hard to run what really kills performance is ray traced global illumination
@@i_fish6657 true
@@i_fish6657 is that not present in the game? Thats the only reason i would like to put rt on, i dont care bout reflections.
RT reflections is very intensive on the CPU, my i7-6700k can barely keep up a stable 60 paired with a 3060Ti @1080p.
@@TheBadger I think you’re suffering heating issues I’m playing 2k ultra with hd textures off with 2070 super and get a stable 45!!! CPU is i7 6700k and it’s at 60% usage avg on the graph
This channel is top quality 👍 You did a better job showcasing DXR shadows and reflections than Digital Foundry. New subscriber 👍
your videos never disappoint 😁
Not great, but good compromise between image quality and performance. Definitely worth it. It needs ray traced water reflections and more detail to ambient occlusion, even screen space ones.
Great Video, subbed. This is a very good Comparison
Thank you!
I play it with the HD textures plus these settings on max. This game is an absolute stunner. An absolute RAM monster too.
Good way to implement RT at the time, this is the first comparison video that shows valuable difference due not so high performance hit
Nice Vid and Music ! 👍
Not as impressive as other implementations, it would have really benefited from RT lighting, the lighting that they have look pretty outdated imo, dim and flat.
Love the amount of labor that went into this video, the choice of music was spot on too. Subscribed! Looking forward to future content from you 😍😁
what is that effect on the left at minute 2.57? I also have that effect on the rtx 3060 when I look to the right and to the left, can it be removed?
You have the best comparison
Yes, the reflections are not as clear as in Control and Legion. But with RTX turned on, I have stable 70-90 FPS in native 1080p on RTX2060.
If the game include ray trace GI or AO, this could've been near perfect implementation of RT.
I am playing with ray tracing with an 8gb RX580, there is already a dll that you modify and you can unlock the option like DLSS, and it works perfectly. Cheers
I'll get around to playing this game eventually I actually enjoyed FC5 and New Dawn. Hopefully, It's a better experience than both of those.
... Came for the Ray Tracing ... Stayed for that background track 👌🔥 Another one for my rainy night driving playlist 👍
I bought RTX 2060 for $300. In this game, I get a stable 60+ FPS, in native 1080p
this game shows how to implement RT without increasing demand
Ace job once again.
The revolution started from Far Cry 3 ...and now we are here!! 🔥
This one's a bit confusing. On one hand there is a noticeable difference and the game looks great with RT. On the other hand the RT effects are somewhat limited such as RT reflections not showing on bodies of water or RT shadows being limited to the sun, and the setting doesn't always allow them to show. On one hand the performance hit from RT is pretty small. On the other hand the game doesn't run great in the first place.
Cuz it’s AMD. AMD aren’t the best with RT so they limited it to a tiny difference whereas if Nvidia were allowed to interact with it, loads more RT effects would be present.
8700k 5ghz and rtx 3090 overclocked handles this very well at 4k and it looks great!
Good Song in this Video
i can't see much of a difference in rtx shadows, only reflections, and sometimes it gives a stutter mess when dxr shadows are on
Not bad, seems only reflections and maybe shadows are ray traced. Dying Light 2 has both of them plus global illumination and ambient occlusion as well, and the flashlight.
RE:Village and Farcry 6 have an amazing implementation of Ray tracing without melt any GPU of the actual generation. Pretty amazing to play this game on 6900XT. This only shows how most of the other games pretty much received money from Nvidia to not implement a RT in an "Open" standard, looking to be good and lite in both platforms
Both have horrendous implementations due to AMD's RDNA2 being so far behind, a console GPU. Try CP2077, Dying Light 2, The Ascent and The Medium if you are interested in RT.
What is the name of this music ??
I wonder if the rtx 3060 has the same ray tracing as this or there is a decrease in the ray tracing
Bro im looking to switch to pc what setup you have graphic card rams prosser can you suggest me?!
Wish the RT was better, but I can tell the difference in some places, so it’s alright. I rather have decent or meh RT with good FPS than good Ray Tracing that requires you to use DLSS or FSR. But yeah, next gen or two is when Ray Tracing could be actually useful. Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition seem like the only game that has good implementation of Ray Tracing.
Preview Video for RT in Dying Light 2 looks fantastic though, can’t wait to check that game out
@@RayTracingRevolution yeah, I’m looking forward to it. I just hope it doesn’t tank AMD GPUs.
@@NipahAllDay I would prefer to have multiple RT options, Normal - High - Ultra that can make better use of next gen GPU. FC6 doesn't break any new grounds in term of visuals, combine with boring gameplay, it's not even worth playing.
@@RayTracingRevolution OMG I didn't know Dying Light 2 was implementing RTGI into their game. 100% sold on it now, I adore Metro Exodus's implementation and it looks very similar. RTGI is so exciting to me.
Ray tracing is a game changer
Very subtle difference. In my view, not worth turning on if you have to sacrifice performance or resolution (only FSR 1.0 in this game). RTGI is where ray tracing really shines (Metro Exodus EE, Dying Light 2). But it is very demanding, so developers seldom decide to use it for now.
Where is it on options? Is there on series s?
RT reflections in Far Cry 6 is only on PC as far as I know
@@RayTracingRevolution thank you! Keep up the good work, still idk what is the next gen🤣
That white halo effect around objects on water/puddles even with ray tracing is just ruining the effect.
Rtx looks like everything's wet and got chrome finish on it
Minimal differences you will hardly notice in the action of the game
so it changes 5 objects ... cool with 15 fps drop
the ray tracing seems to be alot better then cyberpunk i can actully tell the diffrence between rt off and on unlike cyberpunk
🤣
Shame Ubisoft sacrificed ray tracing for 60FPS. I would have loved a 30FPS ray tracing mode.
Even with raytracing enabled all the characters and vehicles float top of the surfaces. Nothing gets self shadows.... For example 2:56 time pause at this exact time and see how the horse seem to be floating.
i cant say its nicer, its little different
Really lackluster implementation of RT in this game. Kind of sad to see since they've had loads of time to properly test it out and polish it in the last few years. I don't think I'd even notice any of this while I played the game myself.
It depends on when they decided to add RT... Maybe it was added due to postponing dates and they did not have a lot of time? I don't remember about having any info on RT in game on announcement date... Probably if it were really for a few years in development I'd have RT reflections on my PS5😧 , and rn it's PC only feature.
@@raelysk RT has been a thing since 2018. Its not really new anymore.
reflections are terribly low res. -1 on implementation, but then it's Ubi so... FT
But I have a good FPS even on RTX 2060
Fanboys are by definition stupid, this game looks great with RT, particularly those well defined shadows make a difference; of course it has some flaws but it's still normal in most (if not all) titles these days, like large areas of water without RT or some low resolution reflections. But overall it looks great and performance is good.
I love raytracing. They did a great job on it in this game. I can't enjoy the game without it.
this game doesnt seem to have hair physics
All i need is a rtx gpu
Красота !
Спасибо
Reflection Quality ≠ Ray Tracing
There’s only specific situations where I can see a difference and it’s honestly not good enough for me to justify spending the insane amount of money it’s gonna cost me to buy a capable card
I bought RTX 2060 for $300. In this game, I get a stable 60+ FPS, in native 1080p
Horrible. Sorry. Got a 10700K and a 3070TI. Cant use RT + HD Resolution, because i got blurry Graphics. I wastge 49,99€ for what shit who look like 2015.
Ray tracing, seems to be yet one more over hyped thing in life lol.
It's basically the standard for light simulation in computer graphics, whether thats rendering in blender, animation work or CGI in movies. I find the fact that we can run this in real time for games fascinating, but there is no doubt the massive downsides in how performance intensive it is.
This is the first game I have ever played that I can enable full raytracing and still get 60+ fps in 5120x2880. With fsr of course. Those who say fsr degrades the image. Yes barely, BUT ITS IN 5K!!! FSR+5K>NATIVE4K. GD fanboys.
No GI? Oh wait, AMD sponsored game lmao their cards can't handle it.
AMDs architecture can handle it but it has to be native to get good performance. This game uses DXR which is Microsoft (DirectX 12) which has never really supported AMD on a native level, at least it feature level at the time this game was being developed. That’s not AMDs problem nor does the company care to optimize for such a ghetto way of doing software RT. Lumen (UE5) is the more advanced way of doing it.
It degrades performance a lot. Unnecessary
Wow, this game is incredibly ugly (read: low poly), even with Raytracing.
minor changes
nice really 1000$ video card for fucking reflection 2012 games had with 3x weaker gpu
name 1
AMD are so far behind that RDNA2 is already obsolete. Here we see their sponsorship of FC6 hold back PC gaming one again.
Ray tracing is overrated
AMD FFX Ray-tracing = best NVIDIA RTX Ray-tracing = crap
is there actually any diff ? it should be the same tech but both brands just rebrand it to make moneys
RT seems bad in this game totally not worth it This is becuz AMD i guess , they decreased the RT count so that AMD cards performs well🤣
It rather seems to be that this is a typical PC port with graphical settings that were developed for the consoles. In the usual Ubisoft manner no particular effort seems to have been made to provide PC gamers with higher fidelity. No way to crank RT up if you have the performance.
@@asdfjklo124 well this time consoles doesnt have RT but its an amd sponsored title so they need to make it playable on amd gpus cant be super expensive for that reason
@@allansolano5587 Good point! I mean in that case they could have scrapped raytracing altogether, but maybe it's slowly being expected..?
@@asdfjklo124 yeah im pretty sure it was expected and other reason is that the game was anounced as one of the first amd RT titles so pretty sure that make them do it, in any case ill rather have this RT that is playable without FSR than the stutter fest that we got on warch dogs legion
This game looks so bad...
