The 1873 Winchester has a very unique place in my heart. Being a child I never dreamed about having a bolt action rifle, the rifle for me was always operated by a lever. Hunting with a cartridge charged the traditional way with black powder gives a special touch to the day as well. And if all these things are happening in snow? Well, that's just perfect. Let me guide you through a few days in the woods. Sighting, using the Ideal tool for making cartridges, target shooting, making a lunch from the game, all included in this episode.

The cowboy/frontiersman is a lost art. This channel brings it back.
You can still a bunch of real working cowboys in the US, especially in the South.
@@hoppinggnomethe4154 well the word cowboy has greatly changed over the years but I agree. You can find some people who follow the old ways. But when frontiersmen like this is certainly lost because after a days hunt you can just go home kick your feet and watch tv.
Cowboy/ Frontiersman , Lost only to the masses. It is alive and well Best Wishes from Montana! M.H
No worries, there may not be many but they are still here.
@@hoppinggnomethe4154 I don't mean to be critical, but your comment lacks a critical action verb. I am on the edge of my seat, awaiting the completion of your comment! 🤠
That was awesome in 50 or 60 years from now your son will look back on days like this and appreciate them more than anything money can buy 👍.
Except vintage rifles. Nothing beats vintage rifles.
@MichaelSewll. Your comment is so true.
The gift of knowledge, wisdom and survival. It will age like wine and be appreciated as much when the time comes
Absolutely the finest video to show what hunting is all about, everything from reloading to eating the game in beautiful countryside, perfect.
So true. I was enchanted by the simplicity of it. I also need to find me one of those old reloading tools.
In the Top 5 firearms channels on KZhead. Realism, results, no fluff.
Duelist1954 and this one are my favorites.
I am almost speechless. This was the finest hunting video I have ever seen. Your country is so beautiful. Making fire, casting bullets, bagging a deer, hiking with your son, the aerial shots.....it was just outstanding! Thank you for making this.
If more fathers would do this with their children , the world would be a better place . Thank you for this wonderful video , Balaz . 👍🏼
Beautiful country and thank you for sharing your hunt. There’s something very special about hunting with a lever action rifle in the mountains. I use my grandfather’s old Savage 99 in 303 Savage that he bought new in 1924. Also, I hunt in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. 👍
Same here. Just this year, I've taken 4 deer here in SW PA with my dad's Marlin 336 in 30-30 that he bought in the 1950's (after WWII), It was one of the very few things that he ever bought new for himself. I put a scope on it. It's a tack driver.
I have my grandfather’s 99 in 303 savage It needs complete restoration Love that gun It was ahead of it’s time
@@shadetreemech290 Those are some solid guns. If it was in the 1950s you didn't need to specify that it was after ww2 though lol, unless you actually meant the late 1940s? The 336 entered production shortly after the war I believe.
Your earlier videos with your 1873 is what originally attracted me to your channel. They even got me back into shooting as I had given it up for 45 years. I now own an 1873 like yours as well as an 1892 Rossi in stainless steel, both in .357 magnum. I even reload with an Ideal tool not unlike yours and it reminds me of tying my own flies for trout and salmon. Both the fly tying and the simple hand reloading I find to be as enjoyable, if not more so, than the shooting and fly casting itself. I still no longer hunt or fish as I had my day, actually many, many days in pursuit of game and gamefish and I am content to leave them alone to flourish now. I don’t harbor any animosity towards others that still go afield so long as they are respectful and I think your videos show what I mean when i say being respectful. Thanks for another enjoyable look at how peaceful and enjoyable hunting can be. Keep on keepin’ on.
Huntsman's salute! The times spent hunting and with your children are truly the most precious. Well and truly done, my friend.
This is a great video. From making the ammunition to the taking of the deer. Then sharing a meal with your son and dog too. It does not get better than that.
Beautiful rifle. But I will never give up my 1892 in .44 WCF, that has been in the family since 1892. And has taken everything in Pennsylvania up to white-tailed deer. Always dependable even after 131 years. Just need a bit of TLC to keep going.
I can understand that. the 92 is an excellent rifle!
I saw the colour case hardening in the opening seconds and pressed thumbs up.
What everybody else said, I say too!! I can’t resist commenting on how the field reloading segment fills in the blanks in the original picture of the 1873 as part of a wilderness conquering system! Bravo!!
This has got to be on of the all time greats of this channel! The perfect combination of historicity and good family vibes. God bless you and your family capandball!
Awesome! First time I've seen anyone demonstrate the 'camp craft' of using one of the old reloading tools. I have a Winchester reloading tool, Pat. Oct 20th 1874, for my made in 1900, Marlin 'Safety' 1894 25-20Win Take Down. My Winchester model doesn't have the bullet mould or sizing hole like your Ideal model has.
I cannot and will not try to add to the comments about this superlative video. It is as close to perfect as one could hope for. Like others, I am not sure I shoot to reload or reload to shoot, but this video touches all the bases, right down to passing on some of what you have learned to the next generation. I wish I had had someone like you to mentor me when I was young enough to learn, but I am getting up there (71) and that time has more or less passed me by. So I will watch and enjoy your videos instead. Please keep them coming as your time permits.
Great video! I took my great grandfathers colt lightning out in 38 WCF a few years ago in Pennsylvanias rifle season. It felt good hunting with an old family heirloom.
Wow! Awesome hunt! A delicious meal! And a wonderful winter picnic with sight seeing to round it off!😃👏 I'll show this to my father. I've shown him your hunts before and he really liked your Red Stag hunt! He'll enjoy this for sure😄 Happy Sunday to ya good sir!👋
that loading tool is awesome and puts the lee loader to shame.
Ideal tool made in the 19th century.
What a great video ! You covered all the bases from interesting bullet making, shooting them then hunting with them and wrapping it all up with an idyllic meal in the forest with your son. What a lucky man you are and what a lucky boy your son is.
This hits home for me, i hunt with an old 1892 with a tang sight and custom hand loads. Nothing more satisfying than hunting with irons
Even the Model 1876 Winchester came with a bullet mold when you bought one. Reloading at the campfire was the way they did it. Thanks for demonstrating.
Memories your son will look back on fondly. Cheers
A friend of mine just got a replica Henry rifle for Civil War re-enacting chambered in .45 Colt. Not historically accurate, but easier to find than .44 rimfire. :) So far he's only used blanks in it, primed with 209 primers.
Thank you for a beautiful video! Blessings to you and your family
Best one yet, this made me remember my step dad. He loved to shoot and the outdoors. This video truly touched my heart and beautiful country. There is no greater artist than our lord and savior Jesus Christ. Thank you, brother 🙏
In my opinion Winchester 1873 is the most beautiful firearm ever made but that's my opinion. Great hunt . I always enjoy game cooked by my wife Timea with Hungarian recipes. Darz bor 🌿
Another gold standard video. Thank you.
I have the 1873 and enjoy it the moment I pick it up. Watching you brought back fond memories of my son and I hunting enjoying gods gift of nature and companionship. Fresh air, family, atmosphere. Bravo 👏!
Respect for Your movies. History, firearm beauty, bushcraft... all in one! Priceless is view of You face after shooting! Good time for new movies. Sunday afternoon or evening is time for relax with Good Movie.
The wife, the kiddo & the pup know fine dining @capandball! Nice hunt!
A firearms expert , a collector , a hunter , a good shooter , a good dog owner , a good father , a hunter , a lover of his country , a good cook .... My God , he is almost everything I wish I were .
Extraordinary well done video!
My children, ages 38, 39, and 40, all remember and talk about outings we had, like this one, over thirty years ago. And, everything tastes better outside.
Thanks for sharing another outdoor adventure with us! These are my favorite, and the children with you will remember the experience for all time. Cheers!
Another beautiful gem, Balasz!
I can't say a better sentence :) Thx for yours hunting videos with bP weapons :) You made my day ! Greetings from France
Absolutely love the high quality presentation. So much value, minimal music and fill. Respect for natural resources and respect for family. Excellent.
All of your videos inspire me to try just a bit harder. Sincerely appreciated.
I started hunting 24 years ago at the age of 36. Quite late to the game as I am the only hunter in my family tree. I only wish I had the opportunity to do what you did here... Thank you for sharing this.
Those pistol caliber lever actions are great guns for hunting close in like that.
Absolutely beautiful work as ever. This is sure to be a memory your son cherishes all his life.
Just wow. What a blessing for your son. And what a joy to watch. Thank you.
Wonderful film highlighting family values and respect and appreciation for the shot animal and the environment. Thank you.
A day truly worth living and remembering. May the war gods stay away from your beautiful land. They have visited so much I fear they may dwell there. God bless and keep you and yours.
"The rite of the Last Bite", nice to see you practice it. I learned it very young and practiced it all my life. Europe has many traditions that respect the animal. I teach it where ever I hunt.
Another wonderful memory, my friend! May you make many more!
Perhaps your best video yet, Németh! Thank you for letting me come along.
I have the same reloading tool for my 40-82. A really cool working piece and also a piece of history.
Beautiful video, thank you for sharing these moments with us. Cheers! 💚
I appreciate you always give thanks for the game and for it's life given. Great video showing a true sportsman from start to finish! 👍✝️🙏🙏
A masterpiece. Well done! 👍👍
I have the uberti version of this. Beautiful piece
That was a fabulous video sir. Thank you for sharing, and taking us on a wonderful journey.
These are the moments that any man dreams of sharing with his son. Cheers!
I like this 1873 model rifle I would like to have one! Congratulations on your deer.Excellent shooting!I like they way you primitive way of starting the fire and casting the bullets and the powder charge.I like the way you prepared the deer! Also the time that you spent your son .He will have fond memories of this forever.David Back from Menifee co KY.
“:23 so it was destiny that bright you with the Winchester 73! Hope more Winchester videos come.
Another great video sharing the art of hunting in a beautiful country. Thank you for sharing your deer hunt with a historic rifle. I enjoy your informative videos as they always educate us on the firearms used and ethical hunting. Well done indeed!
So wonderful. I love following your voyage from firearm, and this time loading tool, to the stalk then taking of the game to your reverence for your kill. This is mostly lost here in America.
I know that this kind of filming alone is so hard, but we would like to see more of this art! 🌿🌿
That was superb video and great experience for you and your son I belive. It was very peaceful and wholesome to watch. Thank you Balash!
Thanks for the great video.A good shot that brought the game down quickly and humanely. Nothing beats using traditional methods in the field and especially with your family that will make some memories that will last a lifetime.Looking forward for more in 2023 from Australia.
Beautiful countryside!
This was a perfect hunting video. It shows all the virtues of this timeless sport.
Outstanding video as always. Particularly love the hunting videos and appreciate you sharing such special moments with us all!
Thank you so much for all of your videos, but this one is now my favorite. Your appreciation of the natural world as well as the old skills and ways comes shining through. Even though you often feature some of the same things I do, I always come away with something new I learned from you. As you know, sharing it with family makes it even better. Thank you my friend. Keep your videos coming.
I just love how you use all of the old traditional methods it really is great to see. I am excited every time I see a new one of your videos. Thanks for sharing what you know. Times like those children will never forget. You live in a beautiful area and near the woods what a treat. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for sharing this look into your world. You are blessed beyond measure.
I have to say that I never seen such beautiful hunting video. Its real and its not just about "killing" as lot of people think. I really love Your videos. I thougt that I will see video where You hunt with lever action rifle, but I saw much much more. I like Your style of videos. Please, keep making them for us 😊 Greetings from Czech Republic
This is probably your best video yet. Thanks for sharing, and may God bless you and your family!
This video made me shed a tear. I dont know why but, I love your channel and the educational videos you make. You are one of the reasons I fell in love with hunting and became a Hunter in Serbia. Maybe one day I travel to Hungary for a hunting trip! Best regards to you and your family!
I just love your channel, your videos are all about history and story telling, craftsmanship, shooting with beautiful weapons, making good food, drinking wine, keeping the traditions alive and hunting in beautiful natur. Keep op the great work. I have even tried to make food like you in the woods and it was great! Thankyou for what you are doing and greetings from Denmark :D
Thank you for sharing the beautiful video and wonderful memories with us.
What an AWESOME video - love your showing the work to create the cartridges, the harvest in the beautiful woods, and you’re sharing some time outdoors with your son. That’s what’s it’s all about! God bless from a Hungarian American!
Beautiful just beautiful
Breath taking the beauty and time with your son and the Winchester was just a extra great place to the adventure thank you for sharing this
Now you're talkin'! I have a new made one, but a saddle-ring carbine. I bought the only hand-loading-in-the-field kit available--- from Lee, but what I really wanted was one of those tools they used back in the day. I wish they still made them.
Lyman also has the 310 tool. that's also a good choice.
Well sir, definitely one of the best video you’ve made. Beautiful rifle, beautiful home and memories with your son.
Simple, calm and pure. Outstanding presentation. As always.
Thanks for this content! Superb as always.
Loved the video , I still remember when I used to go fishing with my brother and my father , never going to forget those moments in the outdoors
Everything about this video is just high quality. Thank you for sharing!
So good to see, the proper use for a great rifle, and sharing with your Son...and us..thank you🙏
That was some of the best KZhead content there is! Thank you for your work, I thought appreciate and enjoy it. Please continue to create it.
What a wonderful video! Beautiful scenery with seasoned venison cooked outdoors over an open fire. I found myself more interested in the handloading tool than in the rifle. It brought back childhood memories of reloading my father's cartridges, one of my chores. Many thanks for the video.
I very much enjoyed this video! You have a beautiful home, well suited for the great way of life you have chosen for yourself. I like how you are passing this along to your son.
What an excellent video. Beautifully filmed and full of history and true hunting ethos. I always enjoy your stories.
An excellent hunting adventure! Thank you for sharing it with us!
The tool is so well engineered and thought out. So pleasing to watch.
I still need to pick up one of these, they’re absolutely gorgeous and so historically significant. Once again, great video as always. I love how informative and entertaining they always are and the camera work is very good, plus the voiceover just brings it all together.
What a fantastic video! Extremely well done. I particularly enjoyed the video portions that showcased your beautiful country. I've run plenty of round ball in my life, But I've never seen a bullet mold like that. That's really well thought out, covering all the reloading operations with one tool.
Lovely, just lovely. God bless you and your family. I can't wait to make memories like that with my children.
Great documentary about the use of a rifle for hunting from beginning to the end. You are a very respectful hunter and a great maker of ducomentaries. I also like to effort you take to obtain the special tools for making ammunition in the wild. Nagyon tisztelem önt.
An absolutely fantastic video. Thank you for sharing!
Excellent video , wonderful rifle , i have my grandfather's model 99 .300 savage , its a treasured heirloom, he used to hunt in the white mountains of new Hampshire usa , they look very much like the mountains in you're video . Thanks for bringing us along.
This is such a good thing , having parents that came from the Old Country , as a family we have done things just as you are doing ... : ) Ferenc from British Columbia
Yet another beautiful film, You Tube keeps taking you out of my recommendations and I keep looking for you! Lovely time with your son. Good health to you both. ❤️🏆
Thank you for another beautiful video, well done in all ways!
Dropped it right away. Thanks for the video. God bless you.
What a magnificent video! This captures what shooting and hunting is all about. You and James Stewart in the movie Winchester 73 are some of the reasons I wanted my own 1873 for so long. I finally found one locally three years ago. The same model you have but in .45 Colt. I plan on making many memories like this with my kids! Great job!
Yours is one of the best channels on KZhead, of any kind. Your ability to let the story unfold through beautiful images and the simple sounds of nature reminds me of Kent Survival's best work - another great channel. Bravo!
