  • Wes Brown MAN UTD LEGEND I drove past his house in Prestbury years ago on my birthday with my gf at the time, i thought id knock on & see if he was there. He only opened up his big electric gates for me and invited me into his drive upto his front door & gave me some signed stuff. Still gives me goosebumps today.   • He was a fantastic right back & centre half at times. That boy could tackle. He was confident on the ball going forward & was a great defender, he played with his heart. I saw him play many times home & away with United. I’ve never met him, but he sounds like a very grounded bloke who has no ego. Wish him all the best for his future. He might have lost a few quid but he’s got his dignity & that’s worth far more….

  • Re: which Treble side was better; people forget the group United had to qualify from (Bayern and Barca were in it), the route to the CL final (Inter and Juventus), the route to the FA Cup Final (Liverpool, Chelsea (twice), and Arsenal (twice), as well as winning the League on the final day (against Tottenham).

  • My uncle was a former scout for United for the Southwest region of the UK. He told me a story of when handing a report in to Alex Ferguson in his office and how Alex Ferguson was telling my uncle that this kid coming through called Wes Brown will likely be better than Rio. That is high praise. Genuine true story.

    • @padee9469 genuine story. Bare in mind it's a scout talking about promising defenders. I think Fergie was comparing Wes to Rio who would have been at West Ham or Leeds at the time. At that moment in time Rio was considered the best young CB out there. Why would I lie? Always one in the comments - don't know why I'm even explaining myself to you.

    • I know what you mean but Rio was actually renowned around England in 97.. everyone wanted him including United who had a bid turned down by West Ham. Don't forget Rio is a year older than Brown which makes a big difference when players are breaking through at 18/19. To be fair even Wes's memory is shot too, as there was no game like he describes happen at Elland Road when he was 19 lol
