Larry Merchant to Hopkins, "where could you possibly go from here?" Even further than anyone could imagine.
Jermain was a whisker away from being an all-time great if only he could've held on in the late rounds against Pavlik and Froch. But hey, he beat Hopkins twice, and I really hate watching Hopkins clutch and headbutt. I'll always have a soft spot for Jerrmain for that.
Curiosity: on that day, the same location of the fight was the shooting location of Rocky 6's last fight
Damn flashbacks of watching this man fight and giving him a tribute. Damn 2005 and who would have thought he would have fought for a decade more. Thanks bhop. He gave a lot of athletes inspiration for being that old and still fighting. Now back to this fight, both fights were close but the problem is Taylor was a better athlete. He had faster legs and quicker. That's why bhop could not beat him. Pavlik was none of that but stronger and slower. Jt could have beat pavlik if he boxed him but he decided to trade. Wrong mistake. Cost him his belts and his reign.
Roy Jones sounds like Samuel Jackson
I also had Taylor by a wider margin than the first fight. Rip HBO boxing and best boxing commentator ever Larry Merchant
Not to me Merchant to personally opinionated wish I didn't have to hear him
Larry doesn't know shit about boxing, how he ever became a boxing analysis is beyond me
I miss HBO boxing, but Larry Merchant was a blow hard, and he had an awkward cadence to listen to, but I still miss the old HBO vibe.
Larry Merchant sucked!
Bigger, Stronger and Faster. Hopkins had no chance. Taylor lit him up with the Jab, all Hopkins had was that sneaky Overhand.
Through round 7 I thought Taylor was ahead easily. I also thought the referee was wrong in admonishing Taylor for holding and hitting when it was obvious to me that Hopkins was the culprit. Every time there was a clinch ( initiated by Hopkins ) the ref would say something to Taylor about holding and hitting. If you are being held by your opponent and have an arm free you are allowed to hit. Hopkins was the one who was given a free ride by the referee in this fight. I wonder if any boxing commission looks at the tapes of the fight afterwards and rates the referee on his abilities. Hopkins maybe is slick in his ability to hide his clinches from the referee on occasion, but surely not throughout the entire fight. Incompetent referee in my opinion. He even argues with Taylor when Taylor tries to point out that it is Hopkins is the guilty party. Here's a thought, why not let Jay Nady sell peanuts in the arena rather than referee the fight. He would be better at that.
115-114 Hopkins I think that Lampley is incorrect in that Taylor is not landing flush. His shots are hitting Hopkins with his forearm or just the side of the glove. I think Hopkins landed the better shots that did more damage. Hopkins was far more active early on than he was in their first fight. But maybe it is just me, but Hopkins face and hair - he just looks older, like his age is finally catching up to him. Close fight the entire time. Taylor clearly made a statement in round 11 tying my scorecard up- making is “dead even” just like Taylor’s corner said. Winner of round 12 deserved the W. Taylor Hopkins ROUND 1 10 10 ROUND 2 10 9 ROUND 3 10 9 ROUND 4 10 9 ROUND 5 9 10 ROUND 6 10 9 ROUND 7 9 10 ROUND 8 9 10 ROUND 9 9 10 ROUND 10 9 10 ROUND 11 10 9 ROUND 12 9 10
Taylor came very strong in that 11 round, maybe that was the difference in the fight
@@stanlee3202 it made the fight a tie on my scorecard. Round 12 decided it for me.
taylor has eyes like duran: scarey, animal like
What a foolosh statement from a foolish person born by a bitch and raced by a witch
@@nelsonchrist1175 toxic little prick you're
Hopkins lands one punch then 5 punches while clinching, that's not boxing, that's trying to steal rounds. One over hand right every round, duck, clinch and hitting while clinching and throwing his head into Taylor's, that shit don't win fights. He won rds 7,9 and 10 and that's it and the only reason why he won those because Taylor was taking his breaks. No judge is going to give you a fight with one overhand charging in and five punches to the body while clinching. He may have landed 20 punches the whole fight that was worth something and 100 punches to the ribs while clinching. FOH. That shit don't win fights trying to steal rounds.
great fuckin comment. 👍.you hit the nail right on the head. that's what I telling people. all Hopkins does is throw 1 punch followed by a headbutt then a clinch. I've never thought about it, but your right, most of Hopkins punches are being counted while he's clinching. he actually clinches more than punches landed . Hopkins and ward are the dirtiest and most overrated fighters in boxing right now. ward fights just like hopkins, 1 punch-headbutt-clinch but ward throws elbows and lowblows in the clinch. i have ward #1 and Hopkins #2 on the top 10 list of most dirty most overrated boxers.
Neither one of you have boxed I can tell. Dirty boxing is apart of the sport rather y’all like it or not. It’s inside fighting. They’re landing punches period.
This was a good fight It could've been a draw
b hop every time "the world's seen what happened"
In the second La Starza-Marciano fight, they threw 95 punches combined in round 4, and that was a slow round.
1 Hopkins 9-9 Taylor 2 Hopkins 9-10 Taylor 3 Hopkins 9-10 Taylor 4 Hopkins 9-10 Taylor 5 Hopkins 10-9 Taylor 6 Hopkins 9-10 Taylor 7 Hopkins 10-9 Taylor 8 Hopkins 10-9 Taylor 9 Hopkins 10-9 Taylor 10 Hopkins 10-9 Taylor 11 Hopkins 9-10 Taylor 12 Hopkins 10-9 Taylor Such a close fight but I got Hopkins 114-113
I want to like this comment more than once.
Its a 10 point must system unless there is a knockdown or a point deduction. You meant to score round one 10-10.
9-9 makes no sense. So it should be 115-114 Hopkins, exactly how I had it
Hopkins never wants to fight...
The Dirty Fighter Lose again
114-114 Hopkins won rounds 1, 7-10, and 12 Taylor won rounds 2-6, and 11 6-6 in rounds
B H lost. And his head is his third hand.
I scored this for Hopkins first round even and then six rounds for Hopkins and 5 rounds for Taylor. Some really close rounds could have gone either way.
I agree
Similar to my scorecard.
there was more action in the three rounds of hagler and hearns then in both these fights combined. well probably more action in that legenday fight than any fight ever maybe.
55:10 LMAO "oww oww, you hit me in my balls"
Looking back on these two fights, I agree Taylor won the first fight, but Hopkins won this fight 7 rounds to 5 IMO. He landed the more effective shots, especially in the 2nd half of the fight.
I scored it 114-114. But Hopkins did win 5 of the last 6 rounds on my scorecard.
Just like the first one
I had Taylor 116-112
I scored it 114-114. But 115-113 for Taylor was fair.
What's the song hopkins comes out too?
Darude- Sandstorm
+Sovereiliñogn
James brown this is a mans world
bernard win 2 fight
Hopkins never comes first. For commentators hard thing to comentate the clinch-punch-clinch. "Every punch - is gold in such a match"
wats the song taylor walked out to
the name of the son was Motivation by T.I.
Momma said knock you out by LL cool J
i scored the fight 116-112 Taylor
WTF the referee always picked on Jermain Taylor. Hopkin always hit Jermain after referee yelled stop
The level of Jim Lampley's bias is absolutely UNbelievable. It's so hard for him to hide. It's sad and embarassing.
And Larry got out in his place by Jones. At the end of round 12
hopkins all the way ...sadly didnt throw enought punches in 11 round, cost him the fight :( but respect , was a tight fight
Totally agree . Was a closer fight than most people noticed
Floyd Mayweather in the crowd with headphones at 20:20...
And Oscar De La Hoya at 20:31? (2nd row, gray suit) I'm pretty sure that's him, yes?
Jermaine Taylor missed a lot of punches and got hit with a lot of punches.
Fue en pate
you gotta give credit to hopkins for fighting at 40 against a young strong guy. i don't see how taylor doesn't get hit more because his head is always strait never goes left and right with his head.
First fight was a draw. Taylor more clearly won this fight. But like Canelo vs Golovkin. The fights will always be close. No need for a rubber match
I am a b hop fan but even I must admit Taylor fought well.
Yeah cause Hopkins got a high ring IQ
Taylor was fundamentally awful.Caught up with him later.Bernard did good in this fight.Landed the most clean hard shots, controlled the fight.
Totally agree. Taylor did very well. But to be honest. Hopkins did more damage in both fights. But cant take nothing away from Taylor he fought great
Archie Moore anywhere near his prime would have demolished both of these guys in one night if they moved up to light heavyweight. Sugar Ray Robinson would have beaten both of these guys simultaneously.
Ok comparing Robinson is fair enough, but Archie Moore was light heavy. Jermain Taylor tried moving up to 168 but he just wasn't strong enough. So you already knew that Jermain wouldn't beat Archie Moore .Never mind talking era's, the main question here is.. Why did Bernard avoid 168? 168 is the proving ground buddy, that's why they introduced it in the first place!
Gay
@@martytdd1606 LMAO no. 168 was a dead empty wasteland. Only shmucks fought there when they couldn't cut it at 160 or 175.
Taylor won both fights, this one more convincingly.
jay nadee is a top referee.
ursman3 You obviously didn’t watch Tszyu vs Judah
Ref is an absolute disgrace totally on hopkins team
Both fights sucked. Taylor is younger, has the hand speed and power. He didn't use any of it to his advantage. Hopkins sitting on his ass in the ring not doing a damn thing. I could've watched a Rocky movie instead if this. Too boring. Should've had Roy Jones Jr. go in there and whip them both.
Dirty fighter Hopkins....
o.m.g. I can't watch this type of fight sorry not enough punches b-hop is a legend but these 2 fights suck boring I'm snoring zzzzźzzzz
They suck cause hopkins is a spoiler.
This is skill vs skill
Kony Lane but I don’t see any skills from Taylor all I see is wide swinging and Taylor landing most of his punches on Hopkins shoulders and arms
@@mr.t658 still count as body shots
@@mr.t658 and being more active fighter
Robo
All politics, old champion new blood that's bs !! At worst this should've been a draw fight and the first fight hop won the last 4 rounds and in this one he damn near doubles power punches landed
Agree, Taylor was supposed to blow Hopkins out but didn’t
Whats JT up to these days I'd love to see him fight again
JT haven't been that good lately
Word he went crazy he may still be locked down...
+mookeychase0907 especially after the 1st Pavlik fight he haven't been the same since.
mookeychase0907 damn
Hopkins should have retired much earlier ... Gene Tunney went out when he was a great boxer, but an aggressive boxer, not somebody who plays non-contact chess.
he shouldn't of retired he instead because world champion again
Lederman was terrible in this fight.
Not just this one
Taylor was holding the shit out of Hopkins ,all fact's
Lamply was jizzing all over himself for Taylor. B-Hop got robbed...again.
again, if i was a boxer i would only want a cutman and waterbottle guy. or i would just let what the manager says go in one ear and out the other. i think a boxer in a fight is his own best judge.
Harold letterman is an idiot that should stay away from boxing! Like the first fight they screwed Hopkins over again! Just like last time Hopkins won Period ✊
Larry Merchant was right Hopkins was a boring fighter....
Nothing boring about Hopkins if you like boxing. If you like FIGHTS go to a hockey game
And Larry Merchant is a cranky old drunk.
jim lamply is the worst commentator ive seen from usa, even worse than max Kellerman, such biased biased commentary had to turn off the sound
Round 11 was a classic among others. As Hopkins is clipping Jermaine on the way in, over and over again, Lampley is screaming about the combos that Jermaine is lacing Hopkins with. It's beyond ridiculous.
jokatech
Bernard was robbed. I hate corrupt judges!!!
Hopkins is not an offensive fighter and judges do not like defensive fighters. The same thing will happen with Kovalev if Hop will finish that fight on his feet (which is very doubtful). Aggresisve Kovalev will certainly be given advantage by the judges.
You have to give credit to the media as well. Lampley executed in disgusting fashion. He shows here why people say to watch fights on mute.
Bernard one this fight shit he was 42 imagine if he was 32
in hopkins prime he would have made a fool out of the young taylor
Professional head butter benard and attacking ribs inside by holding hard to hit benard is a good fighter even when he cheats but glad Jermaine won he wouldn't have won if not for first rounds
Boring
Hopkins,overrated
