    • You can be nice, but dont let yourself get walked all over either. There isnt such thing as too nice. Its just that people who are like that tend to get stomped on and dont know how to take it other than to stop being nice, which is sad.

    • After seeing a therapist they're actually right. I have a narcissistic mom, and my dad was kind of neglectful. Everyone in my life talks about how nice I am, and for a long time I considered myself to simply be a nice and kind hearted person (which not to say I'm not). But there's a limit to how nice a normal person is. I was too nice just like you said, and I was doing this subconsciously so people would like me and give me attention/love-the things my parents failed to give me. Being "too nice" is often a result of trauma/neglect, and normal people think it's weird and desperate because even if we're not desperate, deep down the reason for it is desperate and they can see it while we can't. There is a limit to how nice a person can be. If you see someone that's sick and you ask them 1-2 times if they're alright/need something then youre a nice person. If you keep asking them the entire night then you're just annoying and I've been on both ends of this. People ignore you because they realize something is wrong with you, even if you don't realize it.

When they start seeing that you want nothing to do with them they'll come knocking at your door wondering why it is you don't want anything to do with them and just tell them, you people don't want me around so don't talk to me. Go ahead and free yourself. that'll really throw them off guard.

You overthink what you’re going to say Bonus: They might not really be interested in talking with/to you. Edit: Here’s my advice to all of you, be kind to others but most importantly yourself. • This describes an introverted, anxious, most likely, extremely intelligent, deeply feeling person. Investing time into studying Buddhist philosophy on meditation, letting go and self-compassion can alter many of these pessimistic views on the world. I found Pema Chodron’s books and The Buddha’s brain by Rick Hanson extremely helpful. And of course, Loving kindness by Sharon Salzburg. Realizing you are not responsible for all the ills in this world can alleviate some of the performance anxiety and the need for constant unasked for critique, for ourselves and others. Accepting yourself for who you are now will lift a lot of anxiety about your own life and will give deeper understanding of others. Self compassion will unlock insight into what others are feeling and wisdom and compassion allowing to embrace people rather than trying to fix them. The things that make you awkward now are exactly the tools that can give your a deeper understanding of humans and the world and the ability to embrace life in its fullness.

Edit: I feel personally responsible for the entire future of humankind but close to powerless to help And from the rationalist school of thought, I can't afford to discard the idea entirely either. Edit: Well *I* can afford it, because I will die before the end of Earth but that's the whole point. We can't afford to think like that as a species, it's not fair to those who come after.

I lived a long time overseas and found the culture, although descended from my own, incredibly difficult and challenging to break into. Just far too strong of a national identity, completely ignoring the ancestry from which they came. It took me a while to figure this out and understand the resulting symptoms I experienced in a social context. I can relate to all the points, but mostly number 5. This is something I really need to work on, however it is difficult since my immediate social group doesn't share many interests and trying to join clubs or groups simply results in the same thing as in this video...

If you’re an introvert, just try at least a tiny bit more to put yourself in a social situation, maybe one you feel more comfortable with. As someone who used to be 100% an introvert, I became an extrovert for a while in college during my time as an RA, and now I’d say I'm a healthy ambivert. I find farmers markets are great places for introverts to practice because vendors will literally be calling out to you to try something. I’d say MOST of them are super nice too! For all you people-pleasers (like me), it’s also a great way to practice setting boundaries because you learn how to kindly tell them "no" if you don’t want something. I usually just ask a question about the product and follow up by saying, "I might be back!" It works every time! :D Good luck out there, people! You got dis

    • There are so many things I can relate with what you just said. First yes don't over share especially if you are not that close to them and it's completely normal and in fact it's the right thing to do to take your time to get to know others but what is not the right thing is, "ignoring people as much as possible" no dear don't do that, I know you are scared to get hurt or be ignored but u get hurt only when you have high expectations, be happy to meet new people and old people, people are interesting and it's fun to listen to, instead of talking about your life ask them questions not like an interview but you can ask open ended questions like how was your day at school or college or work today, or if you know them mention something they had said before, keep thinks casual and don't over share or have over expectations from anyone, if you don't take initiative how do you expect others to. Wait for friendships and relationships to develop slowly over time don't force anything in your life, just let things happen naturally. Communication is not a commitment or a chain that someone needs to free themselves out of, it ought to happen naturally, what you need to remember is be happy to meet someone, spread your positivity to others, the light inside you is meant to be spread that doesn't mean you force someone to it, they will automatically be drawn to it, be happy with yourself and don't try to ignore other. God bless you and take care 😊❤

Even if I'm an introverted and I'm not very fond of social interactions in general neither, I feel like the pandemic killed me a little more on the inside. I have no one except my family at this point, the one who started to finally become friend with me (who have no real friends anymore) drifted away from me. I keep tripping over and over but a part of me doesn't want to give up all. It's absolutely infuriating to me that I lost this strenght to go on, knowing this might lead me failure. I mean I've had housemates who were just talking to me not a minute ago come looking all over for me when i had not moved from the spot i was in. I've had stuff like that happen super often though i also sometimes let them keep at it just to see how long it takes them to realise they keep walking past me. So yeah i'm aware i don't have a large presence i also don't like drawing too much attention to myself.

    @madhumita3293@madhumita32932 жыл бұрын
    • Language barrier is interesting to me because I have some foreign co-wokers and trying to converse with them is often super exhausting. I don't have the mental capacity to guess what they are telling me and acousticly not understanding everything. Most of them are really nice but usually even though I'm not so much into talking with people, I prefer people that can understand me clearly (at least when we're talking about language and not the content of the message). I actually enjoy talking in English (my second language) more than talking in my native tongue because conversations get less personal this way even though I would talk about myself, I can distance myself a bit more. But also to me it applies to girls I consider pretty. Often I am to afraid to talk to them or get too nervous. Financial status also applies to me, I'm not talking high class. Even around the normal folks, there are those living the dream like having family, car, house, going on holidays, doing meaningful work, having interesting hobbies, and then there's me, not doing bad but not beeing able to use my full potential at all.

      @madhumita3293@madhumita32932 жыл бұрын
    • @@madhumita3293 Yeah, it's a common misconception that the people of one country all speak in the same standard version of their language. It might be the case for America. If you're interest, you could look for a video of "different dialects in Germany or France", and you'll hear that they sound different. I am learning French and some regions are so hard to understand, even harder than normal French. At least since Martin Luther translated the bible 500 years ago or European countries became one country consisiting of several federal states, there is a standard version of the language. Before that, everybody was just talking in his dialect and that made communication super hard. Sometimes I think in English a bit, when reading or writing. I even can use words or phrases I remembered without really being able to translate them into German or knowing the exact meaning but often I'm sure that they are the right words. Weird. It might be difficult using two languages parallel. You can forget a lot of the words you learned when you don't use a language often.

  • I'm glad I had more extrovert friends than introvert ones in high school. They didn't last, but some of their personality traits rubbed off on me, so later I felt more confident to make the environment or conversation comfortable for other introverts like me. I pay attention to everyone and notice when someone's being ignored or talked over, and I have no problem asking them to repeat what they said, or react when no one else had been listening. It always feels rewarding when I see the relieved/grateful look in their eyes and their bright smile. :)

But maybe your confidence has been diminished out of reaction to your social environment and feeling singled out, either to be bullied or ignored/dismissed. There are some groups that are kind and welcoming. And there are too many others that are deplorable for you, but where most/all others seem to get along just fine. It's always been a challenge for me to differentiate how much is going on in my internal environment versus the external one.

There’s very few things I have a strong opinion on, one that is open to hearing why someone might not enjoy something I do no less. I worry if they think I’m not interested just because I don’t have a good grasp, any experience, or just general knowledge on what someone else may be talking about.

Start off with your hobbies or your favorite movies . Get a grasp on your values and stand up for what you believe in. Just because you’re views differ from others don’t mean a friendship can’t work.

  • There are other reasons too, and it’s not always about the speaker. A lot of people don’t listen to very intelligent or insightful people because they can’t keep up, or they don’t want to think that hard. Other people form conclusions early in conversations and assume they know what is going to be said, so they stop listening or jump in with their own views. A lot of people don’t know how to actually listen. The list goes on and on.

    • I also feel it can be discouraging to tell someone "people ignore you because they talk too much about themselves" because alot of people with mental health issues can be quite lonely or sometimes isolated due to their condition (whether through their needs to be alone or just anxious about being around others) so that might be their only point of reference for any conversation. Sadly they can't talk about other people they know as they may not know many others or have other things to go on. It's finding people who are willing to keep those things in mind when talking with you that I think helps. Because then you can mediate the conversation. A little about them and alittle about yourself

      @allyjane1328@allyjane13282 жыл бұрын
    • Exactly...Many people are only skin deep in the conversation...They use a conversation to socially bond or at least pay lip service to the ritual...The deep thinkers (I am one) are off putting because they use conversations to probe ideas and thinking patterns...Most people are in fact unnerved by insight -- though they say otherwise...

When i went to elementary school, half of my class were the same people i went to kindergarten and preschool with. they all were like 'wow we went to kindergarten together! that's cool let's be friends'. even those who weren't friends back then, become friends. but they are ignored me. everyone was making new friends, but no one wanted to be friends with me. Few times, when teachers were checking who's absent in class today, kids told my teacher i'm absent ....and they did it when i was in class. But one kid who did that actually apologized and said he actually didn't know that i was in class. uh kinda weird but i guess i'm happy to know someone realised that i exist... i'm so sorry for this being so long! i just felt like i needed to write about this, i could write about this for hours (and 90% of that time would be picking the right words and trying to make it have sense...) but i don't want to make long comment. If my comment seems confusing or i did mistakes, i'm sorry for it, please correct me. english isn't my native language.
