The abandoned Ford Tractor is FINISHED!!
Today on the channel we finish the Diesel Ford 861 we have been working on for over a year! As a reminder, I bought this tractor sight unseen and I kind of got burned on it. Nevertheless, you need to persevere and finish what you started!

When I taught electronics in a state tech center, a farmer donated a Ford tractor that had spent 35 years underwater in a farm pond. Our Farm Implement students did a miracle complete restoration. Driving it around the parking lot, I drove it up the front steps onto the main building porch and left it there. I turned on our school's PR dept. and they made a display for it showing the fore/during/results the teens had done. After it stayed there a few weeks, I contacted local schools and we made a show 'n tell driving it around to the schools. The farm program got over 150 applicants the next year, saving the program.
Amazing!
That's what a real instructor does. Makes positive change.
I've been working on these older diesel tractors for years, they always had little smoke to them at idle. They were never designed to idle for long, they were built to get hot and work for hours on end with little to no breaks. Great work so far, its a beautiful tractor.
Heck of a job!!! And hats off to the most patient wife you could ever ask for!!!
The thing about borrowing tools, when you break them You have to pay twice, 1) Replace the tool you broke and return it, 2) Buy your own tool.
I LOVED THIS SERIES! Your patience has paid off. , NEXT TRACTOR.? Please IH only!
Boy do I have a treat for you coming up
@@dieseJL. Can’t wait !
I grew up in Warren. First 2 jobs were at two gas stations at 11 mile and Dequindre. Looks like you are in that area so I gotta ask what are you planning to do with these larger tractors? I have a old L2900 dt Kubota diesel 4wd I did similar overhaul as yourself. I loved your comment about time for the tractor to graduate. My tractor graduated with B minus grades. The red epoxy paint? What kind? The fasteners are going to rust. I think you should paint them. Too nice a job painting everything else. Keep these coming, very good to see.@dieseJL
You did an amazing job on this, you should be proud. These are never quick restorations/fixes, and yes, you have an amazingly understanding wife ( that she gets why you do what you do), treat her to something nice. I restored a 69 Z28 years ago. I too had two young children…spent many a late night in the shop after helping my wife with the kids ( she got it too, like yours ). You’ve got a new subscriber. You done good.👍
Tricky freaky Ricky here. From Razor shap tuned. thank you for the inspiration. I was about to sell my 59' 861D, but forget it! I'm going to finish it just like you did. Thanks again. Beautiful job.
Congratulations on the tractor looks like it’s brand new, love the channel I hope the KZhead algorithm kicks in and your subscriber count shoots to the moon. Again great job and have a great, safe ,healthy and successful 2024.
Thank you! Yeah I am thrilled with it!
Beautiful machine y'all! You did a great job rebuilding it!
That Tractor is a good warm up class for the work you’re gonna put into that kid ! 😉👍🙏,, and sometimes your gonna wish it was easy as checking the timing 😁
You did an amazing job! I enjoyed watching you work on it.
You are very brave with your adjustable hammer bro😅
I love the ford styling, a lot of little details that are put together nicely, much nicer than John Deere.
After asking around some old timers they all agreed the US market has almost all gasoline motors and the UK market has mostly diesel motors as the rest of Europe. Fordson, Ferguson shared some components but I’ve heard the motors were more diesel designed. This is all information I’ve heard from older retired farmers.
Take it from a father in his 60's even when they are grown up you will worry about your children. But you can feel good about that because it means you are a good father. 👍🙏
Love those old Ford tractors!!
Even my nicest old naturally aspirated ford diesels smoke like that, the best ones do clear up when they are working running a chopper or pulling a disc. But on a calm day with the rear exit exhaust, you have a hazey gray cloud following you around the orchard. Hit some thick grass or put extra load to them and they let the black smoke fly. However, i have no experience with those pre 65 diesels. But it doesn't sound bad to me! You did a nice job on it, and whatever you spent would not buy half that much tractor new.
I cant wait to put it to work!
This notice of the video arrived 5 minutes ago and I didn’t see it! Crap!! Now I drop EVERYTHING to watch this.
I think you did a great job 👍👍 you were so patient and calm re fixing problems so much more then i could. You've got something to be proud of young man really great job 👍👍🇺🇸
The tractor looks great. Nice job. My dad always blew the tube up a little when inserted in the tyre to settle. It helps a little to stop pinching it.
This tractor is a work of art. Much better than when it left the factory. Well done. 8)
Nice job on the rebuild. Makes my Ford 8N look super simple in comparison.
Great job young fella
Great job on the tractor. I have an 801 Select-O-Speed diesel that I inherited from my dad. He told me that he bought a gas tractor first but it used too much gas so he took it back and traded it for the diesel. Also, my tractor has a metal bracket that goes from the exhaust pipe over to a bolt hole for the hood so it doesn’t vibrate.
Our 801 had the exhaust that exited under the running board and to the rear. It was a smooth running tractor unless it got a tiny slug of water in the system. And in Florida there was no way to prevent it as our humidity is so high. The problem with a Select-O-Speed transmission is that as soon as the engine stops, it goes into park.
That tractor belongs in the Ford Museum!
Awesome job young man looks amazing :)
Thanks a bunch!
Looks great, I have a ford 971 select0speed and a ford 941 workmaster that I have restored.
I have been using mine for years. Still working just fine.
Loved this series and want to see more. Tractor looks amazing and subbed because of the tractor. Do a ford 9n with a power stroke!
Great job! It looks fantastic.
That’s rear intelligent using the drill to run the pump checking for leaks. I learned something today. Thank you.
It looks really good. I've enjoyed watching work through the process. Been a bit of a ride for us an the "what's going to go wrong next" side of things, but it turned out awesome. Keep it up, your content is great!
Yeah it was a fun one! But I’m happy now. Thanks!
Excellent work. Thats one fine-looking tractor! You should be proud.
Don't forget to put grease fittings in the steering joints and anywhere else they are missing.
I used to operate these tractor 501,8N 4speed later models select-0_speed they were all diesel and they handled great they were magnificent 50-60yrs ago
I love the way it sounds!❤
My Dad had the same tractor in 1962-1968 when he quit farming.
Your manuals are what us older mechanics wished for. We asked someone who like ourselves, had done it before so information was handed down just like the tractor you will let one of your kids have. I pity that you have to pick who gets what as I am at a age of letting things go to who I think will treat it with respect. I am so happy to see you learning this even tho there is no need for this trade of old equipment on the whole as they are limited to who still has one and whether they need that help or not. You now have information at a punch of a button and to me is the greatest thing happening now.. very nice work and keep doing it as your going to get this kind of respect at some point in time
Thousand series selecto speed wide front tractor should be your next tractor or any of the thousand series tractors. I really enjoyed the video series and hope to see upcoming videos on the ditch witch. Your wife is so cool to let you do this in your garage at your house.
She is amazing!
Selectospeeds suck. The trans currently in your tractor is the most dependable of all those Ford's of that era.
3D printing of tools? EXCELLENT use of technology! Gotta say the thing is looking marvelous! I'm very impressed with your ability and perseverance, especially with the new addition to the family!! Hope you bring the tractor to Buckley, people would enjoy seeing it!
I’m thinking Oakley. Ever go?
@@dieseJL I have not. Appears that it runs almost identical dates to Buckley! Friends and I bring 3+ Trailers full of equipment to Buckley so we wouldn't be able to see Oakley. Sad that they overlap!
Looking good! I know you are glad to have it running. I can't wait to hear my 8N running.
Just finished a1958 851. They are a lesson in love. Great work on yours.
Great work restoring it ,sounds good..
Splendid, congratulations and nuw up to the next project 👍👍👍
It turned out wonderful! You did a beautiful job on it
I serviced these tractors back in the 80's the rental yard I worked at had about 6 of them and they were defiantly smokey even after I tilled the field we had next door a couple hour job it does get less smoky when she gets really warmed up. Man this brought back memories.
AWESOME, ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!
Great job. That is a sweet old tractor
Thanks 👍
Congratulations Lisa...
Congratulations on the build 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Clap for that starter.
Great job I really enjoyed all the show you got it going on.
Awesome job! Please get yourself some funnels and drain pans! They are cheap!
Damn that's a good starter.
Excellent job Tyler. Your patience shines through the problems. A big Attagirl to Lisa for understanding a man's desire to tinker with and fix things. My wife is just like her. We both are very lucky.
Thanks Clint!!
wow bro the effort! inspirational!
Congrats, great refurbish!
Parade worthy for sure! Great job.
Smile all you want ! Nice job
Great work!
Beautiful tractor, you did an amazing job
Great job! Luke is being introduced to tractors very young. One of my grandsons was too (by my son-in-law) and now all he wants for birthdays and Christmas is tractors and tractor shirts. Perhaps Luke will be obsessed too. 😊
Always easier to put all the fasteners in place before tightening.
Really nice you did a good job
Great job!!
When you put the tube in, put a little bit of air in the tube before you/ roll the tyre on, helps stops pinching the tube. Nice job, beautiful tractor
That is beautiful. You did a great job
Great job on the tractor!! I like all your videos! Thanks for taking us along on your adventures!
Thanks for the support!
Nicely done, that will make a great tractor.
Looking great
The is awesome. Amazing job.
I need to work on my 641 diesel. Nice work on the restoration.
What a job ! Looks great ty
We made a pump where I used to work that used a wobble plate to compress pistons like your Ford pump.
Looks great!
great job bravo
Secret for installing the seals. Put in a freezer overnight. Makes them shrink and fit in easier.
very nice like the you showed your mistakes. the tractor is beautiful
Great job on the rebuild! I love old tractors. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
It turned out nice!
Just binged watched the whole playlist, great job and don’t beat yourself up, we all have to live and learn or we would all be perfect from day 1😊
You are my hero
My family motto is “nil illigitimi carborundum “ (don’t let the bast###s grind you down) which you may now use 😊😊😊😊🇬🇧😊😊😊
Just had a think about your inner tube problem - what I do is once I put it in the tyre I put a little air in it, line up the inflation valve and sort out any folds before I work the other tyre bead on. Being semi inflated the tyre irons have more chance of sliding on the rubber rather than trapping it😮. Hope you and your family have a great new year😊
Great job, looks like it just come off the showroom floor. 👍 I felt your pain on that hydraulic pump!
Looks great 👍
Congratulations
Great Job!!!!!
Beautiful tractor. Looks new. I am sure you are proud of your work and should be.
I am! Thank you!
damn dewd you are tough on a starter
Very nice pint job.
Nice job looks great
Gorgeous
Agree with all the compliments already in the comments. What stands out to me besides your willingness to tackle something you’re not familiar with but your dogged stick-to-it attitude. Nice job - nice tractor. Hope you and your kids enjoy it for many years.
Thanks!
Definitely either David Brown Case, Or an international from the 1960’s, Or a Ford 5000 all were very popular in united kingdom 🇬🇧. Stay lucky happy new year.
WELL DONE
My Grandfather's Tractor was a 601 Gas Burning Engine.
I really enjoy this channel great work! Ive been using my impact driver with sockets now for 6 years and it still works great dont worry what other people think.
Haha, thanks for the vote of confidence!
These early diesel engines didn't burn perfectly. My rebuilt 861 smokes just about the same as yours. Beautiful tractor you have there - nice work.
Thanks!
very good looking tractor you done weii
12/31/23..Ford 861 came out perfect! Great effort! A+ Stay safe & carry on!🔧⚙️💪👍🍺😊
Thank you!
Still waiting for more 977 videos you and your dad remind me a lot of me and my brother we were in the excavation business and tackled many repair jobs probably some that we should not have tried to tackle but we always came out on top very familiar with 977s and 955s can't wait to see more you always also seem to come out on top!! that is very admirable!!
Soon! Currently rebuilding all of the stuff we pulled out of them but you know how that goes. Those 977s are quite the project!
Just wow!! I just finished watching the entire series and I am truly impressed by your talent, dedication and determination!! With your kind of drive, you are bound to be successful in whatever you do. BRAVO!!
Thank you!
