Thank you to all my subscribers and viewers! It has been a few weeks since my last upload, largely due to shop upgrades and general craziness. I hope everyone is well!
This is my 23rd filmed project, and it was new territory for me in several ways. I have never turned black locust before, and it is tough stuff! Yes, it turned my lathe into a bucking bronco until I could tame it with my sharp bowl gouge. And yes, undoubtedly, there will be some who wish I had not neutered that gorgeous piece of bloodwood by carving and piercing it with the dremel. But I have wanted to learn how to carve and pierce turnings for a while, and this seemed like a suitable candidate. I hope you enjoyed the process. I sure had a bunch of fun in addition to all the fretting and self-doubt as to whether it would even work out without destroying either the lathe or the piece or me... The eagle-eyed might have noticed a clamp attached to the banjo. Well, half-way through the project, I realize the screw bolt that tightens the tool rest in the banjo quit on me and lost its threads. I eventually realized I could switch it out with the tail stock bolt and it works okay now. Now, I'm looking forward more than ever to a lathe upgrade... some day... maybe...
Cheers to all!

The lathe did more traveling than most on the planet for the last few months.
Great comment! Cheers!
I don’t get it, where did it travel?
@@FCWW87 0:50 - 1:09 I could be wrong but some lathes are not bolted to the floor so that they can move a little, rather than shake themselves to bits due to unbalanced loads.
Lord Knightyme ahhhhhhh, I see what he was referring to now.
WOW!!!! Black Locust is one hard wood.........I know I have turned some myself........It’s worth the effort however........as you can see it’s beautiful with the finish on it. 👍👍
The box does not contain you. You are constantly thinking outside it. Beautiful piece!
Thank you! ✌️
The Bloodwood piece is my favorite part! I love how you push the boundaries of woodturning. You have enormous, artistic talent...thank you for sharing it. :)
Awesome chipmunk (with BIG eyes) feeder. Your inspiration must come from the woods, so soothing.... ahhhhhh
Your wood working art is amazing and so is your video skill. I guess it's the artist's eye.
I love this. I can smell the sawdust and it brings back great memories of times with my great grandfather.
I worked on my grandfathers lumbermill as a kid and did some woodworking in the wood shop. I now work in a pallet shop operating a forklift and pallet grinder. All night I smell the wood breaking up and grinding to chips and dust and it brings me back. I sat day dreaming about working the mill and rolling logs last night. When I break out the chainsaw or brush cutter the smell brings me back to felling big maple and pines. The occasional oak.
Good evening, David. This video and project has been very pleasing to my sight. Thank you.
Thanks Ray!
Again, I amazed at what you can create just for me m a piece of wood. And they aren’t made I chins, they’re created by a man with so much talent. It’s awesome work.
Very, very nice/classy piece. Never disappointing!! Thanks 4 sharing again!!
I've never seen bloodwood before. It's so beautiful.
Love your cam angles, close-ups, special effects, etc...
The blood wood bowl was so beautifully grained…. The scream of the drill echoed in my head.
Amazing vision of what a piece of wood can be! And let’s not overlook the extremely talented videography! Simply put, inspiring!
Thanks so much! ✌️
Beautiful workmanship. The bloodwood is gorgeous as is the rest of the piece. Very well done.
Perfection! Live your creative designs & watching how you accomplish it. Magic!!!!
You blow my mind... your work is so incredibly awesome!!! What a beautiful and wonderful skill.
I envy you your talent and passion. It shows in every move.
One of the most amazing pieces of turned wood I've ever seen. Incredible. Thank you for sharing.
So beauttiful ...what your hands have created. You are blessed. 👌👌
You continue to do things I would never anticipate. This is unique and lovely. I also loved the osprey.
Thanks so much!!
That is stunning. I love watching you work. You never know just how it will turn out. I use a Dremel a lot and was interested to see you use it. Beautiful...as ever.
I wouldn't have the patience to do that. Wish i did! That bloodwood piece is eye popping.
Thanks so much!
I started to scream when you started to drill... but then when you started work with the router bit, I said, OK, I see where this is going. Well done.
Another masterpiece. Your work is the finest, most original and creative in the wood turning community. You are succeeding to create magnificent sculptures from natural wood only, without artificial inserts or additions like resin or other not wooden materials. Bravo 👏👏👏
Thanks, but you might take back what you said if you’ve seen some of my recent work.
Beautiful piece! I think it must be a therapy to create these works of art. Congratulations!
Thanks! ✌️
Breathtakingly Beautiful. This is a training masterpiece that one day I will, with God's good grace, manage to emulate. Truly inspiring David, thank you .
Thank you so much, Alan!
I really enjoy watching to see what each piece becomes as it becomes! Thank you for the fine work.
That is .. it's .. not only is it totally unexpected as an end piece, but it's SUPERB ! I had best start buying lottery tickets, I think .. Honestly, David; I never cease to wonder at the creative mind that makes wood-turning so fascinating a craft (to watch, I mean). You blokes pick up a chunk of {something}, turn it for a bit while you febrile brains swing into action .. and then, after some work, there it is - a wonderful THING !!! I'm glad you're young: you'll see me out and then some. [grin]
Well, this awesome bloodwood/locust piece certainly explains your absence these last couple of weeks! Wow! 😋👌
Thank you so much, George!
Awesome creativity and attention to detail, Dave!👍
Thank you, Dwayne!
Your artistry is just breathtaking. Thank you for sharing. ❤️
Very very beautiful! Takes my breath away!
Bro, you have to bolt that lathe down! You rode that steed half way around the world! That’s a badass bowl though man!
Thanks, and I did eventually get a lathe that doesn’t need to be bolted down.
That's just flat out amazing and the music was great.
Thanks Paul!
This was phenomenal ! My first thought was “Whip It, Whip It Good” … but I love the combo in colors and shapes. MAHvelous!
HAhahaha, thank you!
once again .... gorgeous and a complete surprise
I love the creativity you displayed with this piece! Beautiful 🌟
Thanks so much!
Все Ваши работы шедевры.Потрясающе.
Thank you!
This is the 1st. time i have ever watched this video..i am loving it already
Beautiful, love it . Thanks keep them videos coming .
Just watched this video and the finished product is absolutely stunning, how anybody can dislike this video I’ll never know!!!
Cheers Robert! Much appreciated!
People dislike every video, just people with such fragile confidence it makes them feel better to put others down. This piece is not for me but I still recognise the skill and thought put into it and he is and incredible craftsman
Often it's not people with "fragile confidence" (I assume English isn't your first language but I think I know what you're trying to say), for channels like this (that tend to only draw in adults) thumbs down are often in reference to video quality production, over production (like long intros that have nothing to do with with the topic), loud music, people speaking too much or not at all and literally a million other things that people didn't like about the video... or they just thought the end result was bad (different people have different tastes); but it's usually not because they think a simple thumb down means anything other than disapproving of something.
It can also be that someone did not like a technique someone used in a video or they did something "the wrong way". People also might have safety concerns about how people do things too. That lathe was travelling a ton and I bet that got some thumbsdowns. Dumb reason to do that but hey... people are people.
I was gonna say this video was disliked by over 300 trees but everyone went into it much deeper. Yes excellent video 👍
Binge-watching some of your old videos again. This is my second favorite of your pieces (the first being “The Hole in One”). Wonderful stuff, David! 😀😮👍
Thank you Kat! ❤️
Thank you for sharing your beautiful work.
Spectacular individually, magnificent together
You truly are a great artist! Such a feeling for the grain & how to let it come alive!
Thanks so much, Beverley!
What did I just watch!? Holy cow! This is stunning, David! At the beginning I was thinking "Hold on to her, Dave!" The lathe was walking around your shop! LOL! And, I saw your foot trying to hold it fast. Fantastic videography! Actually, it's the best among all of us. Great job, friend. Be well, Dan
Thanks so much, Dan! It was a last minute decision to carve/pierce the lid, and it got pretty dicey at times... yeah that lathe will never be tamed. 🤣. Cheers and best to you too!
This was sackreligous and I loved every bit of it. Thanks for teaching me about a new type of wood. It is very interesting, too bad it's so rare and not from here.
I love the wide grain of that wood!
Amazing skill...
Thanks so much!
Beautiful piece. Many hours of work in that piece.
Thank you Dawn!
Wow! Incredibly stunning
Omg that's awesome.....your work is impeccable....Nice project David.
One of the most unusual pieces I have seen, beautiful.
Thanks Grant!
I feel like the bit with all the arrows popping up on the screen was a “hold my beer and watch this” PSA. Hahaha. Love it!
LOL thanks Amy! It got pretty dicey there...
You very bealty!
You are beyond creative and talented, you’re an amazing magician! MamaMia! Talk about thinking out of the box, this is awesome. I love, love the bloodwood lid! And the ripples you put in the bowl, add so much class to your masterpiece! Fantastic work! Bravo!
Beautiful. A work of art for sure. Thanks for sharing.
Все круто, круто!! ) Спасибо за творчество!
Genial, wonderful, incrível, belo! Parabéns, congratulation David Adamsen! Brazil!
Thank you, Mario!
Your work is amazing and I think you hit on a great title for a movie, with this one.🤔-GSH
Bravo David, vos vidéos sont vraiment magnifiques du début à la fin, il y a une forme de romantisme artistique très agréable. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👍😄
You seem to have invented a new sport, "Lathe Rodeo" :-D The bloodwood looks gorgeous!
Lol thanks!
The production of your "films" is an outstanding quality. I would find it unusual, (to say the least), if you have not had professional/artistic training in this matter. Is this what you do for a living and your turning, as good as it is, is your hobby? Well turned! Well filmed! Well done! B
Bryan Holden I have asked myself the same question and eventually David the same. From what I recollect, he is self taught in his production of videos. Regardless, the fellow does have a God given talent in what he does with both wood and videos. I wish I were only half as good and consider myself lucky. One thing I would like to know about is his source of wood. For me to buy some of those woods where I live would break the bank account.
@@jarmstrong2843 I concur, also wood for me is hard to come by, pricey as well. The way some turners come up with these "exotic" samples . . . Well you would think the stuff grows on tr . . . errr!
Thanks so much, Bryan! I have been looking through a camera lens since I was a kid, and I like to think I’ve picked up some tricks by studying people like Ric Ergenbright, but I’m self taught for the videography, unless KZhead tutorials counts. A lot of my wood comes from eBay, which I’ve found to be a fairly good place to get exotic ready-to-turn pieces for a decent cost. But yes, it’s an investment of sorts. An investment in my viewers! 😃
@@bryanholden6487 I'm an enthusiastic hobby woodturner and by a stroke of luck I've made friends with a tree surgeon who supplies me with wood and in return I help him out occasionally. Most of his wood if freshly cut but every so often he is tasked to remove a tree that has fallen or died years ago. I also buy exotic wood from ebay but I've found that prices have gone up quite steeply in recent years.
I know, his editing is top level.
Always perfection.
Just a beautiful and majestic piece of amazing art and awesome skill. Bravo.
Absolutely stunning, I can see how much work went into this piece, including dancing with your lathe :-) which I think is really successful (as always) I enjoyed your video, thank you for sharing
Thanks so much! I appreciate you!
I’m just an amateur turner, but that is absolutely beautiful.
Thanks Terrence! Happy turning! 👍👊
You are a real artist. Simply amazing. Just say hi from Quebec
I was thinking of it as a potpourri bowl, but the lamp is pretty good, but the entire piece is simply BEAUTIFUL !!!!!
Thanks John! I intended it as a potpourri pot, but gotta have the light show too lol.
So ya went bonkers on this one??? Hum...maybe you should go bonkers more often! Nice work, David!!!!
LOL thanks my friend!
Turned out beautiful man! It was a mystery what the hell you were cooking up there though for awhile lol! Enjoyed it thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much!
Oh WOW! That’s gorgeous!
It's amazing how much your lathe likes to travel. Gorgeous 💜💜💜💜💜 💜💜💜
I watched this last week but wasn't well so didn't get around to commenting! Amazing piece David but please tell me you kept the shavings from that awesome bloodwood! They would look fantastic in resin! x
Thank you so much, Dee! I keep all the shaving and sift through to find stuff for use with drying wood and others for use on their own or in future resin projects. ✌️
Beautiful! Can you tell me the finish you brushed on. We have family in Farmington and love the state of Maine. Thank you.
Thanks David! It has been a while, but i think I used a few coats of tung oil, and then a top coat of walnut wax.
That is just amazing, such a fantastic piece of work.
What a beautiful piece of wood
That one took some work but was worth it. What kind of bandsaw blades do u like to run?
Thanks Brad! I really only run the one blade, and it has lasted a while with not particularly heavy use.
First of all, you knocked it out of the park again. I love the pattern on the bowl as well as the lid. Just incredible. Is the pot available? I hope so. Second, you used a felt tipped tool attached to the dremel . I am curious what was the purpose of that action? And thirdly, what a difference (approximately 2000+- miles) made on May the 9th. In Texas, it was at least 80F and either sunny or rainy, I don’t recall exactly. But I can guarantee it was not snowing. Beautiful scenery out your front door. The pictures you showed of the spring are always breath taking. Thanks so much for letting us see your work.
Thank you so much, Elaine! Best wishes to you! I used the felt bits to help work in the finish a little better.
Absolutely beautiful & so creative!
Beautiful grain in the two woods. Lovely combination of colors. Beautiful piece
10:38 Welp... there goes my trypophobia.
Sorry about that. If only my ergophobia had kicked in...
That is breathtaking.
Thanks John!
Simply incredible 👏👍
Absolutely beautiful
Thanks Bruce!
Excellent craftsmanship
David Adamsen, you are amazing...you have wicked skills! Breathtakingly gorgeous bowl!
David, Holie bowl you have a creative idea, thanks for sharing your video.!.!.!.
Thanks Jerry!
Mind blown ... Beautiful
Uhh, you !!! gorgeous thing! this is art 👍👍👍❤️
Artistry in motion
Talent and patience, that’s a great combination!!
What a spectacular piece of wood this is. The color and grain are just fantastic. 🇺🇲
So many of your pieces are like luscious fruit. Glowing, colours ripe and perfect!
Wow thanks Alana!
Stunning! And OMG TY for saving the portion off the main and making the knob. I see soooooo man folks bit by bit chip them away like their real love is sharpening their tools and large work is just a way to dull them 🙄🤦🏼♀️ If a pen blank can become 1-3 knobs or finials then so can those other pieces folks make into hamster bedding.
Thanks Natalie!
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful talent
Thank you so much, Tanya!
Absolutely love your work. And the lathe rodeo was funny as hell.
You are an inspiration to me. Great skill and most of all your amazing presentation.
Sir, you have been truly gifted................................'nuff said.
That has to be the prettiest thing I have ever seen
Thank you so much Becky!
