We’ve been and bought three classic luxury limousines for only £1,000 each, and we’re here to see whether they have what it takes to complete a series of off-road challenges.
Lining up we have a BMW 7 Series, a Lexus LS, and a Mercedes S-Class. That’s right, three cars you never thought you’d see attempt an off-road course… Until today!

No way they will be in usable condition, unless low mileage cars but those won't be cheap.
I owned that LS 430 for several years in the high mountains of Colorado. Even with summer tires, it was well behaved during the months where your tires would never touch road (only several inches of packed snow and ice). It was also quite capable of driving on dirt forest service roads almost as bad as what you just tested. What's more, if you turned off the ASR, you could drive a hundred yards forward with the car 45 degrees sideways... it was buttery smooth and easy to feather. Last, it started without fail, including on an unusually cold morning where the temperature was -45 degrees. Everything about that car, including the factory Mark Levinson audio system, was top notch. Did I mention it got 28 MPG on the highway?
I had one and it was one of the best cars I've ever owned.
Lexus cars don't scream 'Im rich!'. They are for the silent connoisseur who doesn't want to flaunt their wealth and knows what they have.

But new Lexus owners tend to get their cars properly serviced and maintained by their dealership, so you get full maintenance records, Toyota reliability, and luxury... I paid only 20% the cost of that car when it was new, but it was so pristine that you couldn't guess the age.
@@zakzwijn8410 Used to be the case, unfortulately a much "flaunted" brand by the wrong people and usually with the wrong models.
I'm still impressed that those cars are just £1k each. I would like to see a video about that as well. That Lexus sure looks OK to daily for £1K.

@thetimekillerx not true,I have a 2010 W221 S class and have recently changed expensive Mercedes parts for own parts costing 90% less than the main dealer and front right suspension £935 + vat main dealer £165 oem part no vat,changed abs sensor £135 + vat main dealer £26 for 2 oem part. As for fuel yes it’s a killer especially with current prices but on the motorway it only does 8mpg less than my sons 1.2 tsi vw polo and it’s a 3 litre V6 with 258 bhp
I’m pretty sure none of those cars are road legal in their condition and it will probably take 10 times the buying price to fix them up

None of them are very appealing. Luxury car maintenance and repair costs, luxury car fuel consumption, 20 year old performance, 20 year old features, 20 year old materials.
Love that they used way more aggressive parts of that place than they usually do for SUVs

@@MiguelGouveiaFreitas Not much, considering the converted into 2022 dollars the merc s500 cost between 128,000 and 178,000 depending on trim. All packed with more tech and the power needed for this light off road course. The difference is with a modern 4x4 you won't have to risk damaging the exterior with the added ground clearances. A cheap 15k to 25k basic 4x4 today would walk over this course unscaved. If you wanted to repair all the damage they caused to the old luxury barges it'd be well over 10,000$ just from this video alone. Theyd also fail at driving through a tiny mud puddle with how low they are mud would cease the seals on the doors ruining the interior due to how low they are as well as the engine. Any test requiring locking diffs they'd fail on or just get stuck on the rocks. There's really no comparison. It'd be pretty pathetic if a vehicle that originaly cost 128 to 178k not to last 30 minutes on roads as such. Keep in mind some countires those roads would be considered nice. You'll know what I mean if you've seen any topgear UK specials from the Clarkson era.

Considering BMW's current styling direction, this 7 series's looks have aged rather nicely, it does look pretty cool

I agree, that era of 7 series is now widely considered one of the best BMW's ever made and have become very hot on the market. Makes a good collector/investment car, I personally think they look very good.

After watching this video I now see the hype behind this era of 7 series. Looking back it's no surprise these 7 series are becoming most peoples favorite BMW ever made, ageless and classic handsome looks and surprising reliabilty and power with some pretty good tech inside. Best era of 7 series and is in the discussion for top 3 BMW cars of all time.

These cars are insane value for money, considering that 20 years ago these were the cars that the rich of the world were driving in. A Lexus with air suspension for the price of an iPhone?! Unless you really want a tv pasted on your dashboard these cars are just perfection.

All W220 has air suspension. Why didn't they enabled the offroad mode? Higher clearance, ESP on and its a walk in the park.
Try using old SUVs next time. (range rover/Porsche cayenne...)

Matt, a tip when filming video's on used luxury cars... Have 3 tow trucks on standby because you'll probably need them, well maybe not for the Lexus... I'm glad you're making more content on these cheap luxury cars, great content 👍

I did a similar but much longer test off road with a 2000 Lincoln Town car. Planning is everything! The underside, however, was never the same.

Would be an interesting exercise to see what it costs to keep each of these cars running (MOT'd) for a year vs. their modern equivalents, including initial cost and depreciation!
Probably Lexus. If it was well kept before. In UK even insurance for a year on 7-series will cost more than 1k. And some simple repairs and interval service are expensive as well so no surprise these cars cost next to nothing.

I own a 2003 525i which obviously wont be as nice as an old 7 series but it is in awesome shape and I love driving it for a nice smooth manual feel... such a great weekend car!!!

Still for cars not made for off-road, they still performed quite well
I got a 01 s320 lately, taking my car collection to 2 E39 BMWs, 2 Alfas (156, 166) and now this thing. My mum is actually driving it at the moment and quite likes it. Most of the rust is actually on the b pillar trim, other than that you can see the odd "spider web" under the paint. For what I paid, I quite like it. I've never owned an s class before. Of course the build quality of the interior is utterly insane (insanely bad) when you compare it to my E39 bmws. Air suspension is relaxing though, and this v6 petrol and it's transmission are meant to be pretty stout.

I love the look of cars that were made between year 2000 to 2010! I would love if car makers make more cars with new engines and electric motors and the design of these classic cars!

id pick the s class its nice its luxury it has a strong engine and its a s class it has soft closing doors unlike the lexus and the bmw and it has curtains and a sport mode and a heated seats front and back and thats why i pick the s class AND its has the most torque :)

@@RarePotatoHD problem with these old cars is that, sure, we can buy them on the cheap, but then it'll be 3500 for a clutch, 2000 for a head casket, abs no longer working, etc etc basically ending up with a bill 5 times more than the car.
