I ran a BMW and Porsche with no oil - which lasted longest?
The time has come to lay our old BMW X5 & Porsche Cayenne to be laid to rest…
So of course, we want them to go out with a bang! So we’re draining them of their oil, and we’re going to see which lasts the longest!
First up we have the Porsche. This Cayenne comes with a 4.5-litre twin-turbo V8 which can produce 335hp and 420Nm. Alongside it, we have the X5, which comes equipped with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 which is good for 286hp and 440Nm.
They won’t be driving anywhere, but the question is, which will last the longest? You’ll need to stick with Mat for this explosive finish!

Drain the oil and coolant from the top of the mountain in the new and old Hyundai Agera and test how long they last. First, prepare the 2009 and 2021 3.3 Grandeurs, and test which one of them will last longer with the bonnet removed.

Bmw are the worst car you can buy so? They are bottom of reliability charts and top of engine failure rates. B58 has became the new N47 as they all get issues at 40k miles onwards.

BMWs leak that much oil they are probably used to running without it. I know as an owner!
The very fact that they put this video up on KZhead, would probable tell he survived, but... That was a big explosion and a lot of hot steam, and we just had two videos before this, where Mat was not actually present. Wish you well Mat. 👍

The BMWs cooling system was definitely broken. You can tell by the smoke not being blown around by the radiator fan. Also, not having oil won’t ruin the engine that quickly.
These are already about 10-15 years old. Pretty beaten Up. Still refuse to die easy. Absolute pioneers of automotive engineering.
I feel so bad because one time in my 1.8 Cruze(same engine as an Astra) I'd resealed the sump myself and after a month oil didn't want to circulate and more recently I accidentally lugged it too hard up a steep hill, still around but the thought of no oil is horrible Get well soon mate!
Considering the Porshe was knocking less than a minute in it did really well, wow. I hope Mat is OK!

Don't bother. I own one of those BMW X5s. They're shit cars. They're full of stuff that any shade tree mechanic would know is stupid. Just tonight mine developed a problem with the siphon pump in the fuel tank; you can't run it below 1/4 of a tank without it stalling...All because BMW decided to build the fuel system out of pop-together plastic bits instead of proper threaded connections with compression seals. It's ALWAYS something with these cars.

My Vectra 1.8 used to burn all the oil out regularly. No oil was its default. Ran like that for years.

I drove my little 2003 toyota matrix for a week withot oil (DROVE IT) until started to make lots of weird noises. Just replaced the oil pan gasket, put new oil in, and it was back on the road as if nothing had happened.

I'm not surprised at the Porsche lasting so long. Much as I respect the BMW engine (RIP to that one), my parents had a Porsche 924 for over 36 years and the engine had done almost 250,000 miles. Still, at least both cars (and I'm hoping not Matt) met a fitting ending!
250k is not that much. Of course it's a lot but pretty much every engine can run that long if handled correctly

I had a 2007 BMW 750i with the V8 engine. Unbeknownst to me, the oil filter plastic cap cracked when I started it one morning, and started dumping ALL the oil immediately. I probably drove it for 45 seconds and it started sputtering and shut off. I tried to restart and no luck (I didnt know it was missing all the oil down the street). I never started that engine again. When I see this test, it looks like the engines ran fine without oil for several minutes...mine ran for about 45 seconds and then just quit. Based on this test, I would have expected me to run for 2-3 minutes with the engine getting noisier rather than a quick death after 45 seconds of no oil (and no hard acceleration either).
In description it says that porsche and bmw are both Turbo V8s but they are not, both of them are naturally aspirated
