Quick Detach Vs. Direct Thread Suppressors: Best Ways To Attach a Suppressor
There are many different suppressor mounts. When it comes to Quick Detach Vs. Direct Thread Suppressors, The important things to consider are how you're using the silencer and how many hosts you'll use it once. QD systems allow you to quickly move the suppressor around, while direct thread saves weight, length, and budget.

Great info! I mostly use Rearden/Plan B but the more silencers I get and starting to dedicate silencers to guns I might swap to more direct thread setups.
Good call! The taper mount systems are awesome, but if you want the lightest/shortest system, DT is the way!
@@SilencerShop for direct thread do you use red loctite or just torque?
Why not stick with plan b and have the brake to be the sacrificial blast baffle? Thats my go to. Increased suppressor life especially for the 3d printed suppressors
@@Modsnake98 meh, some folks believe that increased volume in the blast chamber helps more with longevity than a muzzle brake. Also increased volume is better for sound performance.
@@jackburton7959 Use some high temp loctite or some Roksett or whatever its called. Shoot the gun like 10- rounds to get it warm and snug that bitch down with the threadlocker. It wont come off unless you put it in the vice and take it off.

@@SilencerShop I'm new to firearms should removing a factory break and putting on a custom break for a suppressor be done by a Smith?
Can you do a video on the pros/cons of all the most common QD types (surefire, keymo, xeno, dual lok, etc.)?
We were thinking maybe 60 second reviews of those.
@@SilencerShop did you do it yet? 👉👈
This series and videos have been most helpful. Finally, someone actually explains the muzzle devices and attachments without assuming we already know it. Keep up the great videos!
Thanks! We all start somewhere and without the right info it can seem overwhelming.
Thank you for putting out this video- it is VERY timely for all us newbies who just took the plunge now that approvals are coming back so quickly! I went all in, have order no less than 6 suppressors over the last week, first one was only a 3 day wait from date I placed the order to date I picked it up Friday! Now trying to navigate the maze of mounting options. All 6 are being processed through SilencerShop, and the process went from being totally intimidating to super easy!😊
Wow. 3 days is amazing. I have heard that the individuals have become super fast. While trusts are still taking about 8 months!
Trying to help out everyone! We all started somewhere with silencers, its our goal to make silencer ownership simplified.
Thank you I see I need to try them out.
The biggest fallacy for most of us getting into suppressors is that we’ll use the same one on multiple guns. Whiles it’s technically possible, between POI shifts, gas tuning, caliber choice, I believe most folks end up going to dedicated can/gun combos.
Dedicated is better, hands down, but that also means much more cost. I usually recommend QD for the first silencer or two, then once you get a handful to have your main guns covered, DT makes more sense.
Thank you for the info, it was super.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video, it's very helpful! I'm new to suppressors and have a couple of pistols ordered that I want to suppress.

Any time, Brandon!
I am new to the suppressor game having just recently acquired my suppressor and I went with YHM Kurz and phantom mini breaks and flash hider. They were just more cost effective to spread across multiple host.
The YHM mounts are great! They'll serve you well.
I wish I had this info 15yrs ago when I started with suppressors. Direct thread is the absolute least reliable in that it walks constantly, no matter the caliber. My tri lugs on all my MP5 variants is the perfect system. For Rifles’s calibers, I prefer my AAC adapters and lock up but there’s a lot to do the job today. Can’t say enough about all my Dead Air suppressors.
Everyone starts somewhere and we're trying to provide the info we were looking for when we started out in silencers, thanks for sharing!
I use: KeyMo, Xeno, tri-lug and OPS12 collar/brake combo. All of these are great. Tri lug on AR9 is the easiest. Xeno is easiest to get on/off.
Nice! Tri Lug is awesome for PCCs.
Awesome video! Still can’t wrap my head around why the atf regulates a tube, now it’s even more spooky to them cause the tubes can be configurable!? Oh no!?
Great video with much appreciated info. What are your thoughts on accuracy with the tri lug?
9mm isnt a super accurate round inherently, but I've never had issues with accuracy while using tri lug!
If it’s not direct thread it’s not correct lol. Over the years I spend thousands on mounting systems all to just come back around to direct thread, once you shoot suppressed you don’t want to go back, all my suppressors are dedicated to which rifles they are on granted I know not everyone can afford to buy a suppressor per gun but swapping back and forth just becomes cumbersome. Great video though for those that want to go that route!
Once you get dedicated silencers, DT makes a lot more sense. But QD systems are awfully nice when you only have 1-2 suppressors.
Is there a reverse thread mount that would work on the SiCo velos LBP? I like asr but I have a few rifles with a reverse thread break that I would like to use the velos on. Thanks.

Theyre on point!

B&T nailed it with the SDQ Quick Disconnect!
Definitely a great mounting solution!
Do you recommend checking concentricity after attaching a QD muzzle device and suppressor? Thread adhesive on the QD mount or rely on correct torque?
If you're using a barrel of decent quality, and a mount from a notable manufacturer, there are very rarely issues of alignment, but checking concentricity cannot hurt. Rocksett on your muzzle device will ensure its solid, but torqueing to 35/ft/lbs is usually plenty!
-For pistols i vote the Griffin CamLok. I absolutely love mine. It can also be used on PCCs in place of a trilug. For rifles i am loving my Xeno system. I had a Keymo system give me issues* so i switched to Xeno and its been nice. The only thing is i sometimes forget its lefthand thread but LMT is using the system now so that has to count for something. *i torqued a muzzle device on but didnt rockset the device and it started coming off while trying to remove the can (not while shooting), then the keymo adapter tried to come out of the can instead of the muzzle device. I was just trying to function test a gun while the can was in jail which is why nothing had thread locker but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Something like the Sandman is cool since its welded, but i am not going to run 2 different attachment systems and a HUB mounted keymo wasnt going to work for me.
CAM LOK and EZ LOK are both awesome for pistol mounting.
I started with ASR but moved to DT. But sometimes it still gets loose and I hate always checking on it. I like to typically keep my cans on the same gun but don't want to be paranoid. I've like the Kurz titanium with mini Phantom. Stays on and easy to remove if I want to. Only a few ounces of weight. Maybe ill try Srx if they make a titanium version.
If its coming loose, try a strap wrench or a small amount of torque with a crescent wrench.
What about the rugged razor ?
which hand guards fit over what silencers? what hand guard length are very compact/short with what barrel length and can the mount/muzzle device be reached with a tool to check tightness
We've had good luck with the AERO handguards with 1.75" ID, that will fit most suppressors. For untucked setups, we usually recommend a handguard .75" shorter than the barrel.
Will a 13.7 or 14.5 pin and welded with a qd muzzle device be a shorter overall length with the surpressor on compared to a direct thread 16in barrel length.
Yes, in most cases. It depends on the mount you decide to use. If you're using something like the Plan B, it will be shorter. If you use something like a SureFire or Keymo that uses a larger mount, the difference wont be as large.
6:35 The HUXWRX rifle suppressors (apart from the Ventum line) are suuuuper secure. The distal vents of the suppressor are angled so that each shot torques it on tighter. Zero reason why those couldn’t be used on high rates of fire. They aren’t going *anywhere*.
Absolutely, theyre rock solid. We aren't saying that they cant handle high use, just that Chase prefers them because they're lighter, on hunting and precision rigs.
Dead Air system is the best for most all scenarios. It's so good.
Keymo rocks!
I was wondering if you have used the cat WB with a keymo hub. I just picked up my WB and have been reading online about how the WB is not compatible with some of the hub qd mounts do to its wierd geometry. Ive currently rocking an h&k with 15mmx1 so options are limited
We have, but we used the Dead Air Micro brake which is very short, with a longer MD it might have an issue fitting.
About HUB, @ 8:40 Hub or Omega or Bravo all = the standardized hub threads then right?
That is correct, 1.375x24 threads, called a lot of differrent names.
@@SilencerShop ty.
If I have the ASR muzzle brake and I want to run a Huxwrx Ventum with the HUB mount, would I have to purchase the silencerco bravo adapter?
Yup, Bravo is HUB, same same.
Please compare all the mounting systems and their effect on POI? YHM, chemo, surefire, etc and do a group with the muzzle brake then add a suppressor can and repeat the groups. It would be helpful to know which ones keep the same zero.
Good idea! We've had awesome luck with Keymicro
What I want to know is if the threads for quick detach is the same pitch from different companies. As in, the style I want of from a different company, will it work with this other companies system? If I get a second suppressor from a different company, will I have one that will only work on this gun with this mount and that one will only work on that gun with that mount?
Yes, if you're using a HUB mount (1.375x24) Suppressor, for example the Dead Air Nomad, it will accept any HUB accessory, even from other companies.
I have a Silencerco tri lug muzzle on my .45 vector. Will the Silencerco tri lug adapter work with my dead air primal?
Yes, tri lugs are universal.
What’s better way to go for muzzle device for omega 300 the 3 port brake or the flash hider?
3 Port might be a bit better.
What QD systems are good, if any, where the handguard covers the first inch or so of the suppressor?
The systems shown in this video are great, for a tucked build check out the Aero Precision handguards.
@@SilencerShop Aero is what I'm hoping to build. I'm just waiting for them to be in stock.
First, can i bought it was universal. After that, all are now dedicate, I think it worked well for me because I still had a can for all of my guns to train with and didn't make it to where I had to wait to shoot my others suppressed. Than slowly over time, I upgraded my sbr's and pistols with optics, supressors, and triggers, charging handles ect. I didn't have to prioritize or feel rushed to spend the 1,000 bucks in a hurry and could pace myself on building the best tool for each scinerio or situation. I have 2 barrel lengths for each of the 6 calibers I stick to. 9mm, 10,mm, 300 blk, 7.62×39, 5.56 nato and 308. I may buy a single beowolf for the hell of it tho😂😂😂. Now pistols, ill keep buying because theres just to many great options.
Do you know if the huntertown arms silencer uses a rear hub mount ?
We're not familiar with them.
@@SilencerShop thanks
I found the answer, they are too old. The hub mounts are rather new. ty
What are your thoughts about the B&T A2 mounts? This seems like wizardry. Why isn't everyone doing this? I will say it's a bit persnickety getting the groves to line up, when mounting it, but the flexibility go from AR to AR with standard A2 flash hiders is amazing. Thoughts?
The mount is awesome, as long as all of the A2s are inspec. Some have different tolerances which can then cause alignment issues.
As far as hitting the 16 OAL. What are the differences to consider between getting a pin and weld muzzle device with silencer QD features VS direct threading a silencer?
If you're going to Pin/Weld and QD muzzle device makes more sense, welding a silencer to your barrel is inconvenient unless its a dedicated integral upper.
@@SilencerShop Maybe I’m askin my question wrong. It’s my understanding you need 16 OAL. If you pin/weld a muzzle device it’s counted as part of that 16 since it can’t be removed. I would assume that if you’re direct threading a silencer to your barrel then it doesn’t count toward that 16 in threshold. I was asking what kind of things should you take into consideration when you’re deciding between the pin/weld and the direct thread? Especially as concerns the ATF. I’m new to this. Not sure if I’m over thinkin it. Just want to make sure I don’t get myself into trouble cuz they won’t care if either way.
Yes you need a 16in barrel on a rifle for it to not be considered an sbr. You can direct thread and then pin a suppressor to a 12 barrel assuming it will take you to 16in total. I think the issue there would be if you used a suppressor that could then be unscrewed from the direct thread mount as it would then leave your barrel under 16in. Aka if you’re gonna go that route use a welded can that doesn’t have the ability be taken off at all so you can avoid that all together. But honestly ask a lawyer lol.
I have the Banish 45 and looking for best quick attach systems. Mostly from 9mm to 10mm, .40 and .45. Do I have to buy a separate piston for each caliber? Right now I have a 9mm and .45 piston. Thanks
Yes you'd need a separate piston for each one or get a 3 lug and love them around easier but more costly.
You could potentially look into the Griffin EZ-LOK system, that uses a QD device for pistols.
Will check them out. Thanks@@SilencerShop
I second the Griffin CamLok. As soon as I got my Wolfman it the first and only piston I got for it. The adapter never loosened from the barrel but I did rocksett it because I'm just paranoid. It will prevent you from pulling your barrel out (unless you want to remove the adapter each time) but you can still clean the bore and around the barrel just fine so don't worry about that. No different than when people put really nice brakes on their pistol barrels.
For me it's taper mounts (Plan A/B) for rifles, 3-lug for PCC's and direct thread for rimfire.
Good call! Those are great mounts.
What do you think of the QD system Sig Sauer uses for their silencers?
The SRD mounts are very solid, just less common.

@SilencerShop thank you for satisfying my curiosity 😌
Are there any QD systems that multiple companies utilize? I'm not crazy about getting married to one companies QD system. Feels like phone chargers back in the 90's. If everyone in the house has different companies, you end up with 10 different chargers. I don't want to be limited to X company but I don't want to pull wrenches out on the range to swap from rifle to rifle.
Yeah thats the beauty of HUB mount silencers, the mounts are interchangeable, so you can use a Dead Air mount on a SilencerCo silencer, or vice versa.
@@SilencerShop Ahh, gotcha. But you lose the muzzle brake/flash suppressor with the HUB mount. I was wondering if there are any muzzle brake QD systems that multiple companies adopted to band together. Could be a good sales point for smaller, less known companies. We use the ABC QD System that's universal with multiple companies.
That is exactly how it works. Say I have a rifle with a rifle with a Dead Air muzzle brake, It mounts to the Dead Air Keymo adapter. With HUB, I can attach a Keymo adapter to any HUB silencer, and now that silencer will mount to my rifle with the Dead air muzzle brake. There are other accessories that will also work in that same vein.
@@SilencerShop So any silencer that accepts HUB, I can attach the SilencerCO QD and then have the SilencerCO QD muzzle brake on all my rifles? I gotcha now. Thank you so much!

Put some Teflon tape on those threads and your silencer won’t walk off. Works every time.
Can that affect concentricity
Do NOT do this
@@TheRyanDude No. it does not affect anything. It just keeps the silencer from working its way off. I also have a silencerco that uses a muzzle device. Sure, the device locks to the silencer, but what locks the device to the barrel? I also have Teflon tape on the threads to the locking muzzle device.
For pistols, yes. For rifles it is not recommended.
@@SilencerShopwhy? BTW- what exactly locks the muzzle device to the barrel threads ?
Rearden
Rearden uses the Q/Plan B pattern, it is an awesome system
I don’t understand how a quick detach system could make a rifle *more* accurate than mounting a suppressor via direct threads.
It can potentially increase concentricity, that was a big deal before machining and silencer manufacturing methods got to be as good as they are now.
@@SilencerShop OK. I am no expert here. However, if you have one threaded part (direct thread mount) between the muzzle and the silencer body, tolerance stacking suggests that having 2 parts - the muzzle break/cherry bomb/whatever - plus the part that screws into the back of the silencer body increases the chances of concentricity problems. I do understand the other clear benefits of quick detach systems.
my guns dont share suppressors. i dont see a point in QD personally. once suppressed i dont care to shoot unsuppressed ever again. direct thread is my pick
The way it should be, but there's just way too many uninformed or misinformed individuals new to the market, always looking for that "One Size Fits All/Universal Do-It-All" can. The vets know better, I'm just speaking about the folks either new to the game, or all the reddit fudds.
I can understand what y'all are saying. It's just that a great deal of people can't afford multiple suppressors for each one of their fire arms. I see a purpose for the qd, it's just not for everyone.
Most proprietary QDs strike me as more of a gimmick to Nickle, and Dime customers for an extra couple hundred bucks. Especially those that are just direct thread with extra steps. (Q, ASR)
Yup, if you have a silencer for every firearm, DT is a great way to go!
