Intro Song: "Issa Trap" by Mikey Geiger

  • The comment about flow through cans not cycling subsonic ammunition was a tad misleading. Flow through suppressors do not reduce back pressure below the level of an unsuppressed rifle. If the rifle will cycle subsonic ammo without the can, it will most certainly do so with the can. I think what they mean to say is that traditional baffle stack suppressors help a rifle that isn't set up to cycle subsonics do so because they increase back pressure while flow through suppressors do not.

    @InWithBothFeet@InWithBothFeet10 ай бұрын
    • Was thinking the same . If it won't cycle with the helper ,how could it ever function without the extra back pressure? The distance from the gas block to muzzle does not get shorter adding suppression .

  • I wouldn’t worry too much about the heat/cooling rate, they are built with that in mind and will be able to handle it, tho it’s definitely also a good idea to check the owners manuals to see how much of it they are built to handle. Usually what ever that is tends to be on the conservative side similarly to how barrels that aren’t rated for +P ammunition still need to be able to handle a proof load. That being said, I would choose flow through most of the time for a semi automatic for gassing management (both of the operations system and blow back to the face) as well as because it will be better on the longevity of internal parts. Those aren’t concerns for lever or bolt action firearms and if more likely go with a more traditional baffle cannon one of those.

Where is surefire's new suppressor because they have been dormant on new designs forever and shitting on Huxwrx, a few years ago Doug Olson(Retired) from Knights Armament said in an interview that 3D printed suppressors were not the future and look at KAC now, B&T from Switzerland are gonna act like they invented all the baffle tech already used in most silencer yet they were caught copying KAC baffles in the 90s curtesy of HK giving them KAC suppressor tech used on their guns, they're probably also gonna claim they were doing the reduced back pressure cans for a long time before huxwrx.

When I finally get to the suppressor step, the former is getting a HUXWRX suppressor and the latter a Q Short Chop. One thing worth noting is that with a supersonic round, you're still going to have a substantial report. The advantage of a suppressor, besides the hearing protection, is that the sound is distorted and diffused. I can't see a flow-through design effecting that, considering that the gasses are being ejected from the can radially.

You can always use a bigger suppressor for a smaller caliber, provided the threads match, but you can never go up. Using a suppressor meant for a 7.62 with a .22 cal will be less effective because so much gas can go around the bullet. Using a .22 cal suppressor on a 7.62 will result in a ruined suppressor, possible damage to the firearm and potentially severe injuries to the shooter and bystanders.

  • In South Africa we have a lot of experience with suppressors on Bolt action Hunting rifles. First Major concern is weight and the second is recoil reduction. • We use silencers that go over the barrel (reflex) to bring the weight a bit closer to the pivot point. • You did not discuss Recoil reduction, and that is almost more important to South African shooters that the noise reduction.

    @jonathanmitchell3733@jonathanmitchell373310 ай бұрын
    • If recoil reduction and weight is more important than sound suppression why are you talking about suppressors…muzzle brakes exist, will reduce recoil ten fold and at less than half the weight. That’s like sayings you’re shopping for a sports car and fuel efficiency and cargo space are the most important factors. Nonsense.

  • Why is there no comprehensive parametric filter for suppressors? Silencershop has the start of one but even it is far from comprehensive. Theirs has no option to filter flow or non-flow types as an example of one of the missing categories.

  • Question of what task the suppressor has to accomplish. In not civilian circles the operator wants a low signature, aka less sound transported to the threat. That way the target has more problems to identify the location of the shooter. Not ideal for the operator since pressure, gas and sound are more uncomfortable. Civilians want it exactly the other way around.

Similar price range to the DDM4 but with a very unique folding system where you can fold a full length 16” AR in half (or 3rds for some pistol models) to fit in a small backpack, and they come with the backpack too. Quite a few positive YT reviews on them, some cool modularity options (easily swap complete barrels with one pin), and even have bootleg BCGs for running suppressed. Worth the look at least, but hard to go wrong with any of the others.

  • I wish they would have touched on the need for a booster for pistols and do you need a booster for pistol caliber carbines? I don't care about the heating/cooling. I want efficiency in noise suppression.

    @popeyeandy959@popeyeandy95910 ай бұрын
    • Most of the modern suppressors are light enough that they don't require the use of a Neilsen device. Neilsen devices (boosters) are only necessary for pistols with a Browning style lock-up system. Most PCCs are just blowback operated so they won't need one at all. Btw, PCCs suppress really well because of the low pressure, but some rounds that are subsonic from a pistol can be supersonic from a 16" barrel.

  • Guys, you need to look up Bernoulli's Principle. A suppressor isn't trapping gasses in chambers to slow the gasses down. The suppressor is forcing the gas through a constriction to decrease pressure. Sound volume is directly related to pressure. The gasses aren't slowing down. they are actually speeding up

    @douglasfletcher718@douglasfletcher7186 ай бұрын
    • Yes, suppressors trap gasses and slow the gasses down. When something is forced through a constriction, it INCREASES the pressure, but there are no constrictions in these suppressors, so that's a moot point. How do you consider going from .22" to 1.5" a constriction? It's an expansion. As the gasses expand and COOL they slow down and the pressure drops. If you look at sound level meter testing, you'll see suppressors have a much longer but lower peak sound level. That's because the gasses are cooler and moving slower, at a lower pressure than at the muzzle.

      @joshrandall3632@joshrandall36324 ай бұрын
    • @joshrandall3632 anything that causes the gasses to change direction is a constriction. The baffles and chambers inside the suppressor are constrictions to the flow of the gasses, just like the curved top of an airplane wing is a condlstrictuon to the flow of air creating a low pressure area above the wing and thereby lift. Physics my guy. Increased velocity, lowered pressure. Sound level is pressure, lower sound level, lower pressure.

      @douglasfletcher718@douglasfletcher7184 ай бұрын
    • @@douglasfletcher718 The hot gas isn't sound. The sound is created when the hot gas slams into the cold dense air after the bullet exits. Suppressors don't work by speeding things up. They work by slowing down some of the gas so it doesn't all slam into the cold air at once. I think you also have a common misconception about airplane wing lift. Its the angle of attack that matters most, and how it creates a high pressure area under the wing. The curved top of the wing helps a little, but if that were the main source of lift then bi-wing stunt planes couldn't fly upside down.

  • When getting a suppressor, weight is the #1 consideration you should keep in mind (sound suppression isn't a problem anymore). Go titanium whenever possible! ...As for a flow thru VS a traditional baffled suppressor, you should only get the flow thru if your rifle does NOT have an adjustable gas block; otherwise there is no downside to using a traditional baffled suppressor in a rifle that HAS an adjustable gas block.
