Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA
In this View From The Top interview, Shantam Jain, MBA ’24, speaks with Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA.
As of March 1, 2024, NVIDIA is the third most valuable company on Wall Street, with over $2T in market value. Jensen shares his experience founding NVIDIA, getting funded, building the first killer application for NVIDIA’s technology, deciding which markets are worth exploring, finding the conviction in making non-consensus bets, steering the company through challenging times, designing the right organization structure, and finally, his views on the AI revolution.
Excerpts from the interview:
- On reputation: “You can have a good or bad interview, but you can't run away from your past, so have a good past; I was probably Denny's [first job] best dishwasher”
- On early days: “In order for NVIDIA to succeed we needed another startup to succeed-EA… and EA’s CTO was 14 and had to be driven to work by his mom… that’s who we were relying on”
- On markets: “If someone else can do it, let them do it; focus on--if I don't do it, it won't get done”
- On core beliefs: “My reaction during that time [when NVIDIA lost 80% of market value in the financial crisis], is the same reaction I had about this week [when NVIDIA crossed $2T and became the 3rd most valuable company on Wall Street]”
- On unique organizational design: “You have to go back to first principles ... as a CEO I have to architect the company and create an organization that allows my employees to do their life’s work”
Jensen has done well with NVIDIA , the company stock has been a booster for many investors. Yes I agree that the company stock is considered by many as the stock of the year, However, I'm curious about which stocks could potentially become the next META in terms of growth over the next decade. I've allocated $200k for investment, looking for companies to make additions to boost performance
I think the next big thing will be A.I. For enduring growth akin to META, it's vital to avoid impulsive decisions driven by short-term fluctuations. Prioritize patience and a long-term perspective consider financial advisory for informed buying and selling decisions.
A lot of folks downplay the role of advlsors until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for licensed advisors and came across someone of utmost qualifications. She's helped grow my reserve notwithstanding inflation, from $275k to $850k.
Glad to have stumbled on this comment, Please who is the consultant that assist you and if you don't mind, how do I get in touch with them?
Her name is ‘Michele Katherine Singh’. Just research the name. You’d find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment.
Thanks for sharing. I curiously searched for her full name and her website popped up after scrolling a bit. I looked through her credentials and did my due diligence before contacting her. Once again many thanks
Agreed, people are considering NVIDIA as the "Stock of the year." However, I'm curious about which stocks could potentially become the next META in terms of growth over the next decade. I've allocated $200k for investment, looking for companies to make additions to boost performance

Keeping money in the bank is like paying banks and the Govemment. Here's how it works: The bank gives out your money as loan, and charge interest obviously higher than inflation rate, and then give you, the depositor, interest lower than inflation rate. That means net loss for you. That is why I prefer to invest, and on average, my advisor makes returns that always beats inflation!
Glad to have stumbled on this comment, Please who is the consultant that assist you and if you don't mind, how do I get in touch with them?
Thank you so much for your helpful tip! I was able to verify the person and book a call session with her. She seems very proficient and I'm really grateful for your guidance
BOT, DO NOT FALL FOR THIS!
He has the best ASMR voice of all CEOs
Yeah, his voice is amazing and the way he explained his questions was so easy to understand. Great Leader!
Agreed
Yeah agree sophisticated Techy
Mr. Huang and his company he built are awe inspiring, nothing else comparable before, very exciting 👏🏻
Yeah, and his speech is so clear.
His clarity of thought and humility set him apart. Very impressive and refreshing!
Humility that only comes from starting at the very bottom. Just my very personal opinion, he is the polar opposite of Elon Musk in that regard.
Oh? How many of these tech douchebags do you know?

"Don't worry about how other companies or org charts look. Start from first principles. Remember what an organization is designed to do - an organization of the past where there's a king (CEO), then you have the royal subjects/court, then you keep working your way down - eventually you have employees. Well the reason why it was designed that way is because they wanted their soldiers to have as little information as possible because their fundamental purpose of the soldiers is to die in the field of battle. To die without asking questions. I only have 30,000 employees. I would like none of them to die. I would like them to question everything. So the way you organize in the past and the way you organize today is very different." Best quote. It really separates the two schools of thought around transparency and the mindset that permeates each.
spot on.
Mind Numbingly Genuis - more success and health to you and your tribe Mr Huang.. ❤
and A caring /emphatic person.
The king is the one who serves best. I see a certain Christian vision in that form of leadership.
Based on meritocracy, no hierarchies. The only other CEO I've heard publicly state this is Ray Dalio's Bridgewater Associates. Anybody who advocates for DEI + Nepotism (at the expense of meritocracy) basically goes against this mantra.
My friend works for Jensen and says this man understands what the best people need to do their job for NVIDIA. He is super!
Pls can you elaborate
@@mrcoolabhishek123 my friend is an AI programmer and has a young family so he needs to be able to be there for them... working from home allowed him to still have his family time and also working flexible hours for them...Jensen understands that idea people need to be able to be comfortable in their life so they can produce.. and they are producing a lot

Jensen Huang's leadership style at Nvidia, with its flat organizational structure and direct employee engagement may not fit every company. while effective for innovation, other industries may require a more hierarchical approach for efficiency
while Nvidia's leadership style may not suit every company, its financial success speaks volumes. As the top-performing stock, it consistently delivers impressive returns. even during downturns, shorting and hedging led to substantial profits. I've personally seen returns of $1.2 million with Nvidia alone, outperforming my other investments
I tried the same, but didn't have your luck with the results. what i find fascinating in Jensen is perseverance, even when the markets for the business didn't exist
I credit my research that led me to Emily ava milligan, a top fund manager, rather than luck. Going from 300 grand to where I am now was certainly not a stroke of luck
similar to yours, I pulled in 105 grand last months despite the market drop, thanks to my fund manager. It's great to see others highlight victories
The talk is full of good inspirational quote. This one in particular: "You want the company to be lazy about doing things that other people always/can do. If somebody else can do it, let them do it. We should go select the things that: if we didn't do it, the world would fall apart. If I don't do this, it won't get done"
Everyday i life with "If i can't do it my family will fall apart" that's why I'm so intense about success.
how does creating over priced graphics cards for gaming computers gonna save the world?? how does it prevent the world from "falling apart" . dumbest thing ever.
@@Zooom88the gaming world bro. 😂 just joking
@@Zooom88 really, even i wondered this. Can someone answer this?
Universal access to gaming cards was the reason AI (as we see it today) was founded to begin with and continues to thrive amongst the 1000s of researchers worldwide. Gaming is more than just fun - it's eventual goal is to simulate reality to a point of indistinguishability - where everything obeys the laws of physics - and that's the ultimate form of digitization that can exist. And we know how much was created via the digitization of things - imagine simulating climate ?. Ray Tracing, Optix, DLSS were all part of this journey and games are the killer application which is also a "market" which helped and is continuing Nvidia to help realize its goal.
Every Denny’s employee should be proud of what they’re doing ❤
Our kids living in a virtual world. Yej! Super!!! No more outside
It s not the technologies it is about how parents raise their their kids….
Damn, a real CEO that I really enjoy listening to. The way he talks it's so easy to understand everything he says, I want to be a leader like him someday.

Putting well-earned money into the stock market can be over emphasized for first-time investors, unlike a bank where interest is sure thing! Well, basically times are uncertain, the market is out of control, and banks are gradually failing. I am working on a ballpark estimate of $5M for retirement, and I have a good 6-figure loaded up for this, could there be any opportunity for a boomer like me? I'm nearly 60.
Sincerely it's best to seek an advisor right now, unless you're canny yourself. As a business owner in both the service industry and eBay reseller of all product categories, I can tell you we’re in a deep recession and everyone is running out of money.
Since the outbreak of 2020, which significantly affected the market, I've been consulting an investment coach before making any investment decisions because their entire philosophy is built around employing a high-profit orientated plan while simultaneously trading long and short, as well as decreasing risk exposure as a hedge against inevitable downtrends. When coupled with their access to odd data and analysis, underperformance is virtually impossible.
@@jerrycampbell-ut9yf Would you mind suggesting a professional with a range of financial possibilities? This is highly unusual, so please respond as soon as possibl
The advisor that guides me is Vivian Carol Gioia, most likely the internet is where to find her basic info, just search her name. She's established.
Thanks for sharing this. I did my own little research, and your advisor looks advanced and experienced. I wrote her and dialed her twice but she didn't pick up so I scheduled a phone call.

Jensen is awesome and his leadership and vision is a major reason NVDIA has been my largest stock holding for several years now. He has a little bit of a blind spot on AI safety issues, but he is as good as it gets in terms of significant AI business leaders alive today. I founded my company the same year as Jensen, 1993, and can recognize a good CEO when I see or hear one. Been following him for years. He is A+++.
Congrats for holding NVDA stocks! True diamond hands right here
I just watched another interview with him saying AI safety if #1
Can I get some money?
Salute ❤ NVDA
All in NVIDIA❤ Jensen is such a great leader! Energetic, innovative, persistent, enthusiastic, devoting, and caring. Also very humorous and humble. Really a delight to hear his talk.
That is the mistake i made. I sold all of my NVIDIA in the rally run to 300$. Afterwards i realised it is better to buy and hold a company with great innovation and competent management team. Bought a small stake back in much higher at 450$ and didnt even look at it. I just know i want Nvidia to drop so that I can build a big stake in it. ;)
"Have a core belief, gut check it everyday, persuade with all your might, persuade it for very long time, surround yourself with people you love and take them on that right" - Jensen Huang, Nvidia

Jensen takes good care of his people. Next week, all Nvidians around the world have extra two days off with full pay. It's Jensen's way of saying 'thank you for the good work, now take a break and spend some time with your loved ones'.

Jensen Huang said : You can make up a great interview, you can even have a bad interview. But you can’t run away from your past, so have a good past, try to have a good past. WOW 🤩,it’s really amazing interview.
Simply amazing. Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, nailed the interview. And quite fruitful interview
Wow - hearing Jensen Huang speak, it is crystal clear to me why this guy is such a successful leader. Yes he is humble and smart, that is very evident but he absolutely gets his purpose as a leader. To inspire his employees to do their best work on worthy things that will create & drive future markets. Amen to that.
Sounds like you are not averse to the Corporation. Just remember, the only job that man has is talking and pandering.
He is such a smart guy. Jensen has been a huge inspiration to me for a long time. This was awesome to watch.
I think the stock and crypto market will go sideways or down just slightly over the next 6 months. I'm hopeful there won't be anymore interest rate increases. The restart of student loan payments should be more than enough to get inflation in check. Personally, I think student loan payments should have resumed a year and a half ago. We probably could have avoided a lot of the inflation that has occurred over that time. It may have even been "transient" inflation as many were calling it back then. Early/mid 2025, interest rates should start dropping and the stock market will head to the moon. when news gets bearish start buying. "Keep it simple" that bear/ correction was the best thing that happened me.
Simple step-by-step process, excellent communication and response times. The service was extremely streamlined and friendly throughout. Would recommend them to anyone give her a reply

Jensen's insights on focusing on unique contributions are spot on. For entrepreneurs, remember that your early partnerships can be pivotal; NVIDIA's synergy with EA is a classic example of how aligning with the right collaborators can amplify your impact and drive mutual success. Always look for those who complement and elevate your vision.
In 2024,don't set new year financial goals without consulting a financial adviser.there expertise ensure a solid plan for success.Building wealth involves developing good habits like regular putting money away in intervals for solid investments.
I agree, based on personal experience working with an investment advisor, I currently have $650k in a well diversified portfolio, that has experienced exponential growth. It is not about having money to invest in stocks, but also you need to be knowledgeable, persistent, and have strong hands to back it up.

I've always argued that the whole school of management is in the dish pit. There are many executives that have never washed dishes or even grasp that the process of management exists. MBA education didn't start until the 70's and executive pay went up and dreams went out the window. But the school of dish pits will live as wise monks exist. If you can wash dishes you know how to plan, organize, actuate and, the step most people forget is, control ie. put the spotty items back through the process. You learn how to prioritize because you deal with resources, pressure and people. There is another important insight here. Often the lowest paid is the operator of the most expensive machinery in an operation. One can be trained but few figure it out. A day in a dish pit is a measure of whether candidates should get the exec suite. Jensen Huang is a phenomenal leader because he knows how to be present when he washes dishes or any carries out any other task. May his humility continue to serve him and us well.
Never knew this guy will be that charismatic
"If I won't do this, it won't get done" - amazing
