I see steam cleaning electrical parts on the panel a huge liability as well 🤷
One thing I'd add isn't necessarily a cleaning tip bit one to do before cleaning. Always disconnect the vehicles battery before disassembling. It's possible to damage components or have to pay expensive labor fees to recalibrate sensors if they are unplugged while the battery is still connected.

What a great video. I’m a self employed carpenter, I love to detail my truck and trailer. Getting your process down is essential to making it easy to do with whatever frequency works for you. I wax about twice a year, I wash and clean almost every weekend. I also rouge and buff the aluminum/stainless trim on the trailer every couple of years in sections so I’m doing some section once or twice a year. I can wash, dry, vac, both in about 1 1/2 hrs. That’s far easier then ignoring it till it takes days of effort to make it only look ok. Up here in New England, almost all of the male half of my clients tell me that it made an impression on them that I have owned my now 20year old truck for 15years and it’s in really nice condition for being daily driven, in all weather, with over 300k of construction miles on the clock. I enjoy taking care of my stuff, took along time to collect all of it and all the skills and knowledge to care for it quickly and easily. As far as charging what your worth, depending on your personality and your background, this can be very difficult. We can pour our attention obsessively into our craft, get to the point of being really efficient at executing perfection, only to realize we have not built the “briefcase “ part of our skills and knowledge. If you love what you do, it worth the discomfort of growth in that area.

Great video! Lots of good info and cool B roll. A small, cheap paintbrush is good for getting into the AC vents or other places you can’t reach with a wipe/rag. Also, my truck has vinyl floors. I love them so much. No more sandy carpet! I vacuum it out, then take a wet rag and wipe it down. Done. 👌
Tip number 17. If the carpet is or has been very nasty, dont hesitate to remove the carpet, hang up, and pressure wash. Especially if u already have the console out. The first time u wash it with a pressure washer , hung up, u will see that shampooing and extracting does very little. Shampooing only gets the surface clean. When u pressure wash (car wash), mud will roll out for days. U might easily spend 2 rolls of quarters to get it completely clean. Especially the heel pad area. There is absolutely no other way to achieve this level of clean. And make no mistake, it will not hurt the carpet. I have done it for many years on dozens of cars

Good tip, cleaning the key as well. The knobs collect a lot of dirt. I keep the overspray tip in mind for the next wash.
Coming from someone who works at an assembly plant I see taking theses cars apart to detail as a huge liability risk. Make sure to get torque specs on every bolt and confirm no connections are broken/bent.
Exactly. Very easy to make this mistake, which could be much more serious than getting every last crumb of dirt in a detail.
Exactly why I don’t remove any seats or anything of that sort unless it is in a vehicle like a mini van for example where the back seats are made to come out with a simple pull of the handle no electrical components = no hassle!
@@lzy7054 aw crap I removed my 310 k passat passenger seat to get water out from clogged ac compressor line or whatever, I even had to use an adjustable wrench and shit on my star bit to get an angle on the bolts, lmao. Guess I gotta finally read the manual, or just Google it bc vw forums have everything, b6 passat seat torque specs, bam. Lol

Great summary. I've seen you use a tire dressing (gel?) and applicator, but I don't see them in your Product link list. I've heard some 'fling' off onto your paint when you drive, so would love to hear which product you recommend for that finishing touch. BTW - I got your Fox Clean products and several of the products you have links to. Really appreciate the recommendations from a professional.
When I was young I detailed hundreds of vehicles at my father's dealership. When cleaning the interior the first thing I did was to pull the carpet out and clip it to the wall in the wash bay and spray it with the pressure washer using hot water and car wash soap and watch the brown water flow away. Then I would leave it on a step ladder overnight to dry. Many times I would also replace the underlayment if the vehicle was really dirty. I found that this was the best process for carpets, especially for tan or light grey. 👍
Yes! And once dry, dye the light colored ones! I wish my walls weren’t drywall, I’d do that method for sure. Living in Ohio limits how often I can really pull and pressure wash sadly
@@StaufferGarage You can put the carpet on a small step ladder to wash, that works pretty well. Or put the carpet in a large trash bag and take it to the car wash and clip it to the wall there. Quick story: The worst car I ever had to detail was a car that my Dad bought that had been abandoned at the airport and had been sitting there for 6 weeks, it looked pretty clean on the outside, it was a Lincoln Mark VII. We had it delivered via a Rollback after the paperwork and title was fixed. Ok...what I wasn't told, was that there had been a dead body in the trunk for those 6 weeks at the Airport. 🤢🤮 I cleaned and cleaned, even replacing everything in the trunk...but the horrific smell would never come out. Somebody bought it from my Dad a couple weeks later and didn't say a word about the dead body smell. I can still remember that odor. 😵⚰

There are two types of leather seats tho. Real leather and plastic coated leather, which is most popular. With plastic coated upholstery, a conditioner is pretty much pointless I thought. Excellent tip in the key fob....I do it too. Replace the battery every 3-4 months...cheap insurance. Also the spare tire info. Good job.

Quick fix to trim fade spray it with clear coat works amazingly well
4:40 this is a BIG one for cars with a little age, especially if they've been parked un sunlight a lot. I got some Cerakote Trim Coat for my 2012 Terrain and it really did wonders for my plastic trim parts. And what's better is that it seems to last ages. But I will admit my case is not typical. My car is garage kept and I only take it out 2-3 days a week. In any case that stuff beats the lips off of most other plastic and trim restore products I've tried. Also, for a nice matte tire dressing, I really love Chemical Guys VRP.

I do a quick hand polish job on all the exterior door handle recessed areas(if applicable) on all vehicles. It cleans up those scratches and makes them less perceived if not takes a few of them away as well. Just something to think about if you need an “edge” in your area.
I do this with a 2 inch polisher.
Holy cow this guy is good. I detail for enjoyment, not as a career. It takes me a week to detail a car really well. I'm not saying i won't ever take a seat out, but imagine how much more time would add to a detail

I use my air compressor air nozzle to clean the crevices I can’t get to with a brush, and to blow out any excess water that sneaks in. The rubber air nozzle is especially handy to get the little debris from the seat crevices.

A must for me is restore dirty headlights like blurry or yellow...not every car but it's a nice detailing satisfied process 👍
Roll the windows down and clean the tops first. After you dress the tires, roll the car forward 12 inches to wipe the area that was against the ground.

Cleaning the seatbelts can often fix slow retraction issues too, all that grime and dried hair grease makes them stiffer and resist coiling up. I've fixed many seatbelt issues by pulling them out as far as possible and scrubbing with a brush and soap

Trick is to hit them with silicon spray after cleaning to get them retracting as new

I typically do the whole seat removal thing on my own vehicles when I get them (new to me used vehicles) and then periodically thereafter. You are right there is no substitute for doing it. I have had folks ask me to detail their vehicle and I have no clue what to charge because obviously there is a difference between just a wash and dry vac versus removing seats and cleaning all the nooks and crannies. How do you determine a fair price for that level of service that folks will pay?
I went through some training for this. You charge for what you’re willing to do. You say what you’re going to do and set a price, they want less? Too bad pay the same price. They want more? Well you’re gonna have to pay my next package deal. Have a few options of depth and they can choose. Say no to people who don’t agree with your rules. It’s not worth arguing with someone that won’t respect what you do
Such a great video! One question I had is: when do you decide to use the tornador vs a brush on the interior? Also, would a cordless vacuum specifically designed for pet hair be faster than the Lilly brush or whatever you were using?
No, Lilly brush with steam and vacuum is king
Really you don’t need the tornador, all you need is brushes. The tornador I like to use for the doors, and maybe the places like the vents and stuff on the dash, but I prefer to use a brush so I can just be extra careful about electronics
I have a question for tip #10 what if you don't have a spare tire and its your car's battery right there like i have a hybrid it's a 2016 Chevrolet Volt and my battery is where the spare tire goes how would I clean that area without affecting the battery it would be a shame if I messed up my battery

Ozium sanitizing spray into exterior and interior vents to clean A/C / Heat vents and smells amazing.
You showed a tip on the seats and I found that getting into those crevices between top and bottom it helps to lean the seat as far forward and back which lets you see what’s hidden. If this is useful great have a blessed day Detailers.
Excellent presentation with the sped up video footage, the well thought out title wipes and transitions! Vehicles are generally not air tight (or you'd suffocate) so I'd start my interior detailing by following air flow and cleaning/disinfecting around window seals and the ventilation air intake vents on the outside of the vehicle, with the A/C compressor on, with Lysol. Then after steam cleaning the inside vents, I'd vacuum them to get the garbage I just pushed in with the airflow of my steamer unit. Then, I'd consider working from the top down and address the headliner first. Smoking, vaping and flatulence can put odors into the headliner that no amount of pine tree air fresheners can correct. I didn't see a section on the headliner but it is porous and absorbs all that nasty stuff. You are the professional but I'd think that introducing water be it steam or a high pressure wand might impact electrical switches, solenoids and sensors. Vehicle interiors may have been assembled easily but since their integrity might have an effect on your safety they weren't necessarily designed for easy disassembly. Seatbelt material wasn't designed to be moistened much less saturated with cleaning products and/or water. Some seatbelt systems have safety components built in and pretensioners; I'd possibly moisten a microfiber towel with cleaning solution and wipe the exterior of the buckle/receptacle but stay away from the cloth webbing. If you're going to be so picky to scrub the safety devices in your vehicle then don't forget to condition the airbags too! (Not!🚫). As you use a steamer or hose around the inside of your fuel filler door, DON'T, if you have a capless filler. (You'd think a person would think this through but there are people who'll try this). I love the drill brush, the pet hair brush, and steamer. One commenter mentioned high pressure wand on carpets (remove from vehicle). My Mercedes Benz dealer does that with vehicles there and WOW does it help! Exceptions would be "Wilton", lambswool or special material carpet where special cleaning and cleaners are required. For the entrepreneur: not only knowing your worth, but also doing some shopping to see who else is out there, what they charge, (cash discount?) and how saturated the market is for detailers in your area. It is neither logical nor reasonable to assume that because you are worth every penny that you will automatically attract customers. Word of mouth helps but remember that popular players in the local detailing market might not receive your newly created detailing business with open arms. You may excel at detailing but are horrible at selling yourself/services. Either reward current customers generously when they refer new customers to you, or learn to sell, or hire someone to sell for you on a contract basis. Contacting local companies, offering your portable detailing services in company parking lot (get written permission to be there), and generously reward the receptionist or whomever in the company spread the word about your services. Finally, suggest to customers, going forward, to neither eat nor drink nor smoke nor transport pets in their vehicles. Also keeping the cabin air filter(s) (my Mercedes has 4!) clean and functioning helps. It all starts with the owner. How many people go to Chick-fil-A and then park in a neighboring parking lot to eat, drink, spill and pass gas?

Nice!!! What are your thoughts on using dye for carpets or mats upholstery etc? I mean some stuff you just can’t get the crud out and it’s just better to make it look fresh by using dye.
I am all for dye, only after cleaned and dried out though. Dye ove dirt is something I couldnt sign up for
Turtle Wax Plastic Trim Restorer for black/dark anthricite plastic for around $13 has been a hands down life saver as it's acrylic based and lasts. Just be aware that your towels will become almost plastic when it dries, so use disposable microfiber towels.

Steam cleaning can easily get into the electrical connections in auto binteriers and cause damage. It works well but a lot of care has to be taken.

I was a professional detailer for a long time. My favorite secret weapon on getting pet hair, fuzz, foxtails, and pine needles out of carpet and off fabric seats is a pumice stone. Does a good job, is cheap, and saves a lot of time

I looked at steamers at Walmart yeah I know not the place to buy a steamer or at least Pro steamers but I'm just starting out. Have a question for you. My Camry is 21 years old I want to clean the fabric but I'm afraid to take a drill brush to the fabric because of the fabric age. What do suggest I do? Again thanks for your video very helpful.
If you use a lighter brush it should be fine, go for a white drill brush head
William, you could use a soft brush - it have a sort of graduation between soft and hard one

Absolutely! That works better for me too.
Or a detailing brush… detailing brushes are -lovely- on applying dressing to cracks and crevices of interior as well …detsil brushes just make getting coverage on big knobby ass tires much quicker

Nabee, don't worry about the insurance off the start if you don't have that upfront. Everytually the goal is to build a client base and get legitimized with an LLC, Insurance, and all that. For now focus on gaining experience and see if your still into it 6 months into it, and if you like what your doing and biz is good, then LLC it, get insurance, started accepting credit card, etc. Effective Advertising could be a focus right now. And run a great deal on a service, like I am doing now, all summer long, $25 headlight restos, mobile service, I go to them or they come to the shop. I'm also doing a scratch removal special, I also offer basic maintenance oil, brakes, tune up diagnostic, 7 out of 10 customers I detail for get maintenance from me too, or vice versa, they come for one and get the other too. It's convenient and affordable. I do the specials by the season come fall and winter it'll change. If you do that, advertise it right, and to good work, word of mouth will be your main growth. Just my 2 cents
If you are doing mainly interior, I would recommend getting a extractor (bissell spot clean pro) and a steamer (McCullough mc1375 canister steam cleaner). Those both can make a massive difference in quality and appearance.
Very nice explanations but this mostly apply to people who have a garage! I live in a flat and basically all i do is to wash my car at self washes and do some interior detailing as much as i can: like vacuum, some apc, textile cleaner, leather and plastic protector.
TIP: When im detailing customers cars that have horrible stains, I use 2 things, a spray bottle full of water, and fast orange mechanic hand cleaner, combined with a drill brush I've gotten everything from blood, axle grease, frac oil, trans fluid, stains out and anything else that never really comes all out. Fast Orange is the way to go, plus it deodorizer the vehicle with citris. I used this on the entire interior. Makes life alot easier, plus it's safe on leather, it's not loaded with chemicals and works better then anything I ever used prior to Fast Orange. Give it a try if your struggling, you will see.
