  • Putting a weight on the end of a machete is genius! I lived in Hawai'i for 30yrs and have taken a machete to many a coconut - the outer husk is tough as nails and the machete can skid or bounce off if not hitting at the right angle - the weight on the end obviously helps a lot. Why didn't I think of that? btw, the water when drank from a fresh green coconut is sometimes very bubblely, like carbonation . . . btw2, Thailand is amazing! I love it!

    • Bro... U forgot the fact that its a baby sleeping at a working place... Maybe te place is quite and clean enough for a worker's baby to sleep there, but that doesn't change the fact that the workers are soooo busy and don't have anyone else to care of their kids back home (cuz all members are also working somewhere)... Plus if u put into account how cheap coconut is in Thailand, then u can put it into perspective how much these workers have to work to get their wages... But I also saw a decent watch on a worker's hand, sooo... Maybe I'm wrong...

  • as a teenager in new england, my brother & i processed coconuts for the oil. we got them when they were dried & brown, not green like these. we had to shell them, remove the flesh & put it in a large barrel press , which would press down very hard & squeeze out the oil. it doesnt smell like the coconut smell in candy & other foods, its different. one thing that was cool is the dried shell were great for heating the house. they burn white hot like a blow torch

    • The green ones are young coconuts. They're good for eating raw and drinking the sweet water inside, but not for making coconut milk/oil. The brown ones are much more ripe, their flesh is hard and not pleasant to swallow and the water has no more flavor or a weird mildly sour taste. These are the ones you use to make coconut milk/oil.
