  • One more Jack Russell fact... They are extremely stubborn 🐕 dogs, and have a mind of their own. My Jack Russell decides if he wants to listen to me or not and sits there thinking if he wants to do it or ignore me. Little brat, either way I still luv him and will never give him up.

  • JRTs love to compete with other JRTs, especially in races and other trial events. They instinctively know how to "go to ground," they burrow underground or follow the existing tunnel to "bay" and "worry" their prey. These little dogs are incredibly smart and strong-willed. If you are looking for a lap or purse dog, don't be deceived by their small size, they need a lot of outdoor exercise and a job to do. After all, they were bred to be "working" dogs. They are clever and will invent their own work (usually destructive) if you don't give them work to do. These tiny dogs are fierce and fearless and, when trained properly, a lot of fun. Russells Rule!!

  • My wire coat JRT “Stoli” passed away after 18 good years on Thanksgiving Day this year. His last two years he was deaf and blind and yet his favorite game was still, “Let’s trip Dad”. I’ve owned a few over the years and my wife brought home a pup a few months before my old boy passed and Seseme surely softened the ache of loosing him. She gets along splendidly with our 5 other mixed breed rescues.

  • I’ve always had JRT. I have 3 now at my 70 year old. Ages 1 1/2, 14, and 16. The oldest and I are never apart. She saved my life at my pals hunting camp when I got sick from cancer. She went the got my pals attention by barking, jumping and running towards the area I was laying on the ground. My pal resized he had to follow her to me where he helped me back to the hunting camp. Never have I ever loved a dog like Macie. She has been a great friend and buddy. Never apart but when that day come she will have earned her wings for heaven.

  • Great video. Other facts I love about JRs: they are very strong-willed (meaning ornery). :) It's "I'm doing what I want, you don't like it get out of my way." They are also highly protective and loyal, great watch dogs. You DON'T want to break into a house with a JR. Or venture into their yard for that matter. Also they are totally - totally - fearless. I have seen JRs chase German Shepherds and Chows away. There is also a famous story (you can find online) of a JR taking one not one but TWO pit bulls attacking and child and saving the child's life, costing it its own life. They are the greatest dogs ever.

I took him to the vet but wouldn’t take him because of coved restrictions. They said to Monitor him, I argued but it didn't help. He dyed in my arm's 5 o'clock the next morning. My son dyed 10/1/21 6 month's later. My God I miss them both! The prices of Jacks are so high now I can’t afford to buy one. So I’m trying to adopt one. Bret and I went hunting every day. Hhad killed 2 or 3 hundred rats 2 possums A raccoon. He kept fox treed all day once I had to carry him home he did not want to leave. He loved riding in the pickup, allways trying to go faster. If you called out (squirrel) he would get all exited. he'd hurt your ears barking sometimes but it's was OK I enjoyed it. He will be mist forever. I always said he was the greatest dog that ever lived!!!!

  • Jack Russell Terriers are still Jack Russell Terriers. The name is the property of the Jack Russell Terrier Clubs. The American Kennel Club tried to take over the name, but lost their lawsuit. So they created the Parson Russell Terrier name for their dogs. Parson Russells derive from the Jack Russells, and at first aren't much different, but they won't stay that way. AKC breed standards require closed stud books, automatic acceptance of all pups in a litter, and do not allow behavioral standards. JRTC recognizes a dog as a JRT at the age of one year, and only if that individual meets the standards regardless of his parentage, and the critical classes in JRTC confirmation competitions are open only to dogs who have been certified to hunt two or more of the specified prey species. So JRTs will remain JRTs. PRTs will not, because without continuous reinforcement of the JRT behavioral traits in every generation, they will quickly drift. Remember, the smooth and wire-coated fox terriers used to be breeds that could go to ground after a fox. Neither can, any more. Their chests are too thick and their shoulders lack the necessary flexibility. And most lack the prey drive that defines the JRT.

  • My Molly would jump down cliffs and using her hind legs like a ratchet she would slow her descent and move intinctively toward almost impossible to see ledges looking for a seagul's nest. Moreover, she would take note of any that were either out of reach or that she was dropping too fast to move towards. Invariably dropping into sand she thought nothing of a 2m drop and roll to turn and immediately scramble up almost sheer vertical faces of rock sand climbing root systems (nosing beneath them to keep from falling but losing no speed in locating the nest barking all the while and then giving chase after the flock of angry birds firstly getting her attention and then drawing her away very cleverly working together. The first time I let her out of the car she instinctively summed everything up about this new walk and running flat out across a big car park (Bar Beach Newcastle, NSW Australia - best chips EVER!) and just flew over the edge my heart stopped! I had to take a less precipitous route to the bottom only to find her half way back up and locked in mortal combat, lol, for the contents of the nest - which she never did get to but I know now thankyou! A true "bayer" not so much Obeyer - not in these moments anyway!) Great to watch as Molly has long since moved on. 😔

Good thing they broke up around that same decade, lol. He was an escape artist. Bit a few people in the neighborhood. Lucky she never got sued!! Js

  • I must admit that I loved all Jacks in this video. But mine I love at most. He doesn't jump six times his own height though. Maybe he once did, but now while being nearly 11 y.o. he definitely doesn't. He's still slim and muscular as he's always been. I couldn't think of owning another dog. And definitely not another race. Even though it makes me a racist. JRTs rule.

I've had dogs all of the larger breeds for 50 years and of course I loved each one of them.... but my Jack Russell Terrier is a stand out Above the Rest.. Extreme intelligence... ninja type skills... Extreme Speed and Agility... and the tenacity to chase a 300-pound oilman running for his life back to the truck..lol. they are the best security system you could ever have.... I've never had a better friend..
