Bonfire The word is actually derived from Middle English bonefire, meaning literally "a fire of bones." The earliest appearance of the word is glossed ignis ossium-Latin for "fire of bones." And a citation from the 15th century confirms that this is not just a learned folk-etymology. Cold Shoulder Origin The origin of “cold shoulder” dates back to the 1800s when it was a literal reference to serving a cold piece of meat to a guest who was no longer welcome at a dinner party. Giving someone the cold shoulder about whatever meat they had cooked was a clear, unspoken signal that they were no longer welcome, and it was time for them to vamoose. The phrase has since evolved to take on the figurative meaning we use today. Poor Karl!

He is an extremely unique person, and has done very well for himself career wise on the back of Ricky and Steve mocking him. The fact is often he is right, his theories although not the norm get you thinking and as he always said, once people are thinking he is happy. @chriscummings26718 жыл бұрын
Yes this is very true. Karl is not correct The wealthy Europeans actually used alot of pewter plates, forks and knives which has a high lead content that would leach into alot of their foods but tomatoes accellerated the lead poisoning because of their high acid content. Those pewter plates bowls and utensils were dangerous to eat out of no matter what they were eating. This was only a problem for European aristocrats. ordinary people in Europe and the new world never had his problem because they didnt use pewter .Tomatoes were introduced to Europe in the 1500s after they were discovered in the new world

I never make it to the end of these, I drift off and wake up with a flat phone and 10 minutes to get ready for work.
1:59:34 *Ricky gives a 30 second monologue about how the show is nothing and they have no regard for their listeners and how he feels guilty about it* Karl: "So anyway there was this parrot"
Tom 22 😂 brilliant.
Class
I mean, Rick, it's unique!
Lol.
Yes I do.In 2024 I'm still listening on pretty much repeat and they still make me laugh!!!!!😍😍😍
I'm same, I've heard them all countless times and still listen every night... its like mt religion 😂😂😂
I love that his stories just stop and he goes "so uh... that's it."
What is that it Karl? Er yeah what more do you want?
Love Ricky, Steve and Karl , they have got me through some tough times. Thanks.
Mary Hughes awww Mary

Rahul Kemp love you too x
In 50 years time there will be loads of old people trying to explain this podcast to the modern generation
I started listening to this as a teenager I used to be able to listen to radio from Britain all the way from America and I love them to this day. Karl's a legend
"Excuse me sir, you can have this back!"
Here I’m November 2021. Karl is a legend
Cant believe I'm only just seeing this now, what a fucking treat.
So, I heard Ricky mention Karl's name in stand up, years ago. However, I had not heard any of Karl, Steve, and Ricky until 3 days ago. It's all I've been doing since.
Sewer Tapes you’ve got a lot of joy ahead of you. I think most of us wish we could hear it for the first time. Enjoy dude
@@2GuitarsPlay I'm starting to get a sense of how massive this content well is. Amazing. I just found out about An Idiot Abroad today too. Cheers.
How I wish that was me.
Wow, lucky guy.. your first time, how precious, green with envy.
Oh you lucky person. You have all the XFM shows, the podcasts, the Ricky Gervais show (animated version of the podcasts), an idiot abroad and Derek. Also, he's got his own sitcom called sick of it. Enjoy!
Never mind your beard, where have you been for 3 days?!?!
"Its not his volt" has to be one of the best reactions to a hook catchphrase ever!
Today on my flight I thought “bout to go through a bit of cloudage”... K man is really starting to rub off
Ooh, 'ello...
Man moth is the true legend
The dynamic between these three is SO entertaining! I laughed out loud many times.
"It's not his volt" GENIUS
truly crazy how everyone here talks about falling asleep to these. Been doing it for about three months now and never looked at comments till now. Glad to see not alone on that lol
+Ufh oes (UFHOES) we are plenty
It’s like a rite of passage. I started listening to these during the day but they’ve made their way to just before bed every night without fail for 2 years nearly now
Hitting 12+ years of listening to these guys almost on a daily basis now. And I ain't showing any signs of stopping.
Karl: Did that just go out? Ricky: ..what?? Karl: All that.. Ricky: *manic cackle.* xD! My god.. my sides hurt from laughing so much!
***** Agreed. One of my favourite XFM moments ever. XD ( it's at 15:37 - 17:05 if anyone wants to skip to it. )
xD! Why thankyou kind sir.
... *Mutes post*
Aye, crackin pair there luv!
xD Thankyou! ^_^
Never knew Ricky, Steve and Karl had such great taste in music. Kudos.
ricky on midgets and suzanne: "not eyeing her up and down; just eyeing her up". wow, that was lightning quick. love it!
I feel like I'm subconsciously becoming Karl because of the amount I must hear in my sleep
Whenever I feel down. I pop this on, or any of their podcasts. It really does take it away and makes me smile! I wonder if at the time, if they knew what they was creating?! If they knew it would become what it is now. Absolutely brilliant.
"When was this?" "Quite a bit back"
Literally applicable to every one of the stories
We're going quite a bit back with this one
Different stories for different things
I'm sure that's where, 'Me lager, Finchy lager, Gareth lager sometimes cider. Different drinks for different... needs' came from.
"He was ung an that"
Omg I literally see you on every video related to karl
I'm a pilkoholic.
+Daniel Wagner you're a virgin
+Daniel Wagner you're a virgin
+Eupastranaia fenestrata it appears we have a parrot here ladies and gents
I’m off to bed. I’ll fall asleep listening to this. Magic
1:12:02 Ricky almost swearing "Don’t you fucki-" and Karl trying not to laugh had me in stitches haha
I love how Karl at 15:35 gets on with his work, getting out his part while ignoring Ricky butting-in but the very moment Ricky poses the question of if he'd be a frog, ZAP! All his attention is focused on it.
Another title for the lead plates and tomatoes could have been: 'Gettin led on, bout what yer been fed on'. 'What's tomato with you' is class 😂
Right...I knew you'd do this, so I'll stick somethin' on it. D'yer know bee's are deaf?
Chemical Viking Oh is this the running away again? x
BigJamook lol
“D’you know that bees are deaf..?”
I love when Karl laughs, I have no idea why but it makes me happy
This and questions for Karl has got me through my exam season
Thinking about it maybe listening to Karl isn't the best thing to listen to during your exams
You never know, it might nab you an E in history.
So you've been using knowledge learnt and answers from those features to aid you right? No wonder you got an E in history!
Rickys laugh is amazing! Could listen to these guys solid
If you're in Kenya don't put beans in your ear......words that have seen me through my some tricky situations.
That advice saved my marriage.
That's funny Arthur
"In what way, is telling me that Brian Blessed shat himself once in any way educational?"
😂
1:10:18
"What have you learned?" . "Nothing." Haha the speed that Rick comes at it so funny.
‘Where did this happen?’ ‘Er, sort of, in Britain, and that.’
I love that nearly everyone of them is a saying and it's nearly always followed by "Years ago"
Leave Karl alone, it's not his volt
"chewing the fat" actually stems from times when food was scarce and people would just chew the fat for as long as possible to make it seem like they were still eating...and that.
@Callum Booth The mouth gesturing.
Nope. Eskimoes around the fire, with blubber.
"It wasn't properly" is the greatest thing I've ever heard. I'm going to start just describing shit as being not properly.
I lost count of how many times KP said 'ages ago'.
2:13:05 Karl trying to say "enough is anus" is a classic moment.
+Burial "Enough is en'anus".
Ban gulls. Oh fuck i nearly pished myself laughing.😂😂😂
imagine the things these three would have to talk about in 2020 and all the things in-between since they last sat down together.
Boe King they need to do a reunion podcast
There's no way the PC brigade would allow it these days. As Karl said - "It'll be shut down within a month"
Boe King Has
Adam Subtract But didn’t Karl say as long as you say something nice, you can also say something horrible. “Chinese. Great people. Women very attractive...before they get to 30”
Someone make a 'Ricktuals' compilation. It would only go for 3 seconds. "It's good to have a flat head in India."
I really believed the crab story. Kinda disappointed it wasn't real...
Same! :c
+drroxxo1 Is that u Karl ???????????
I am listening to it now, I am not at the part where they say it's not real.. But I believed it as well haha
I managed to fall for that the first 2 or 3 times I heard the episode. Always so disappointing :(
I love how Karl just sort of organically took over this whole show over time because of Steve’s inquisitiveness into his way of thinking and (frankly) Ricky’s laziness
that's libellous
Chimp fancies her got hairy legs chimp fancies her?
Listened to xfm everyday since xmas hahah
Hooked on theese, listened to them all do many Times
The tomato story is about pewter plates, which contained lead 😂
Educating Ricky has always been my favourite feature.... I'm lying in bed laughing away.
Poor Karl!
Why would you say poor Karl?
@@declanlowe3075 because he is trying to educate Ricky and him and Steve are just laughing and dismissing him.
@@icarusandtherabbit ah but that's what makes Karl so good. His ability to take no notice of them. His ability to believe in what he believes. He is an extremely unique person, and has done very well for himself career wise on the back of Ricky and Steve mocking him. The fact is often he is right, his theories although not the norm get you thinking and as he always said, once people are thinking he is happy. In fairness to Ricky and Steve they are great mates with Karl and have looked after him extremely well which they have also done well out of.
Great mates? I don't think so!@declanlowe3075
@@tyroon81they were and are great mates
Educating ricky is great. Thanks for adding some rockbusters as well.
Just watched all of monkey news, all of Karl's diary, and all 3 episodes of questions for Karl ! absolutely hilarious, some of the funniest shit I've ever watched, total laugh out loud material. Ricky you are a comedy genius. Karl you are so funny and Stephen you are . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .very tall ;) only joking bud you all crack me up
"Different stories for different things." Gnight mates
educating Ricky is imo the best part of all of the podcasts
I wish I could hear the music on these. Most of them sound like good songs.
Think there's a Spotify playlist full of the songs if you search xfm Ricky
"Have you heard that saying, out of the frying pan and into the saucepan!" 3:04:18
A fish in time saves nine!
LMAO I believed the Crab story! I was amazed by it!!!
im convinced karl is a comic genius
Yes and v underrated
Everyone watching this thinks exactly the same, it's not a secret
Feeling down. KZhead Karl. Start smiling
I am Vietnamese. Always keep an eye on your taste. Wonderful
What we going for? Anging' the bacon, hairy Chinese kid or Alien gives man a beard?
16:22 - "The frog thing, do I look like one or...?" xD
Why has this got nearly a thousand thumbs down?? It's MDMA in audio form.
I know right! Keep noticing loads of dislikes on these videos but no negative comments. Dislike bots maybe? 🤔

BigJamook Not everyones cup of tea. It's not their volt.
Colon then, educate me!
That's a great Dilkington bust.
I love how Ricky will happily say "shit" on air then get worried when he almost says "fuck"

Lee Rendle same, been listening for about 2 years every day at work lol
+tez I listen to all the podcasts and guide to's on my iphone at work, and always burst out laughing or crack a huge smile, and often wonder if people think I'm mental. Do you?

"Did that just go out?" I pissed myself laughing hahah, he's right, this isn't normal radio
2:13:00 Enough is anus Say that again.. enough is enuuh eh anus.. Well...
ℓαυяιєOG the
Karl's story on what's tomato with you is true, and Ricky and Steve slag him off. It's like the hanging bacon story, trivial but slightly interesting and plausible. So much shite comes out its hard to believe anything he says.
This was only a problem for European aristocrats. ordinary people in Europe and the new world never had his problem because they didnt use pewter .Tomatoes were introduced to Europe in the 1500s after they were discovered in the new world
I feel like Karl is the inspiration for Kath in Afterlife.
17th century? will always crack me up, along side "mentalist".
“Everyone likes the smell of bacon..”
I certainly do.
