WWDC 2021 may not have brought the Macs that were long rumored, but it did bring some very interesting new software features to macOS, iOS, and iPadOS with the release of macOS Monterey, iOS 15, and iPadOS. In this hands on first look review of macOS Monterey we'll look at the features including new safari, shortcuts, new Maps, and Universal Control, as well as Spatial Audio and Quick Notes updates!

And yet MFS has been out since the 90's with that level of graphics.... The world needs to be seen, Photos from satellites give a better realism even if they are over a year and up to 3 years old, at least it shows me the area in better detail, apple maps is sad when compared to Google Maps.

I don't get the "can't come soon enough" part. These MacBooks just came out 7 months ago and the first iMac a month ago. They are plenty powerful.
But they are targeted at the low-end consumer. They are perfect for many people, including professionals, which is very impressive. But professionals like me are waiting for the higher-end MacBook Pros, for example de 16" with probably the same mini-LED display as the 12.9" iPad Pro, which I can't wait to get for work (and personal use)! Think about it... if that's what the low-end Macs are like, imagine the higher-end Macs! I can't wait

Ikr, i switched from safari to firefox because of the hideous update in bigsur
Every yearly update they make Safari worse and worse. Agree more space real estate on small screens is good but getting to the controls will be a ball ache. It's already a pain - this is just worse. Why do we need tab groups I currently use bookmark folders and rarely want to open lots of tabs/pages at the same time anyway. Bye bye Safari. :(

Yes, I will definitely use the safari tabs folder feature. In my security analysis research for work/hobby I go down rabbit holes of all interconnected yet distinct technical topics. This feature is perfect for me when I’m in a long research session and need to come up for air to see where I’ve ventured.
Super happy that my 2014 Mac mini is still supported!
I’m glad I don’t have to regret upgrading to an M1 MacBook Pro just a few weeks ago
I know right? honestly I would fine cause I actually use touch bar and this is the last one if we follow rumors but, people who bought it recently must feel similar 😁

Me too
Same, was really worried
I've been a loyal Firefox user for years but the new Safari looks SO amazing, I'm tempted to use it... I'd just miss the container tabs functionality that I use a lot. I wish Apple would implement that, maybe integrated with the tab groups even, have each tab group open in one container? I would absolutely love that, and they could advertise it as a privacy feature since they're big on that lately. These map updates always make me think "ok but how long before I have access to that in a small town in a 3rd world country". I'm in love with the text recognition feature especially bc it supports Chinese, it'll be SO practical if I can take pictures of my mandarin textbook and just copy paste text from it to notes/study apps.
wait how do you get tabbed groups on firefox?? Ive recently switched to FF from Chrome and miss the tab group feature
@@itemushmush Oh no, I meant that Safari's new tab groups feature could integrate with a containers feature like Firefox if they implemented it. I don't know if there's tab groups on Firefox. You could look into add-ons like this one? addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/simple-tab-groups/ Never used it so idk how good it is.
this is the kind of clean content i like to see on my feed!
Tab Groups was one of my main gripes with Safari and why I used Firefox more. But this implementation is amazing, the best I’ve seen so far

Amazing video!!!
They're probably accelerating discontinuing older Macs so they can get to all Apple Silicon ASAP
They're still supporting 6+ years of old Macs...they're also currently selling new Intel Macs.
@@accordinglyryan they used to do 7-8. But when I say ASAP I don't mean right this second I mean as soon as feasible. When they transitioned from PPC to Intel they said all the same things about continued support. For the first one to two years they still sold a few PPC but they had dropped all PPC support in just 2 macOS versions...
@UCFe0rXKHLl4cBlVejuCgirg Fair enough. But with High Sierra it was 8 years or so. I don't think they're gonna be AS quick as the PPC transition. But they will stop making new ones and possibly drop support for older ones faster than they have as of late.
@@meismehaha macOS also wasn't on a yearly release schedule back then. The install base of Intel Macs is also much larger than PPC was back when, so I don't think they're stupid enough to do that again, but then again this is Apple we're talking about lol. I'd expect 4-5 years of software support from the last Intel Mac release to be acceptable. Any less than that would be disappointing. I bought a Mac Pro 7,1 last year so I'm banking on that being the case lol
Sad that the late 2013 MBP-s and the iMac dropped support :(

1:06 Oh, no! No more support for my little 11" 2013 MacBook Air. I guess I'll upgrade to the smallest thing available in the fall.
@Gaming York OpenCore Legacy Patcher works for my MacBook9,2 so it should be still functional for newer devices.
I have a 13”. I’m definitely as disappointed as you but I can’t afford the upgrade so I’ll be left behind…
2:08 I think this weirdness is due to Apple sunsetting support for so-called vintage Macs; anything over 7 years old is no longer eligible for any kind of support, not even parts.
This has been Apples MO since it started.... this is why studying HISTORY is so important, even in the computer arena and especially around security, which apple isn't the best at and can't come close to a good 3rd party firewall.

I love the fact that Apple stole Microsoft Edge's Set Aside Tabs feature. I was really disappointed when the new Chromium Edge omitted that function.

@@RiccardoGabarriniKazeatari tbh Apple does continuity better than anyone
I can see the live text feature being Used in schools taking notes and I can see the gnu safari features being used in research papers and articles and stuff real good stuff
I feel like Apple made the new Safari update specifically for people like me. It's like they said "hey, look at his workflow. There are plenty of Safari windows organized by subject but they are hard to find and are often minimized while working on other subjects. Then he needs to find the right window for the next subject on which he will start working... What can we do to make it better?" Sure, my 2017 Macbook Pro “can” run it, the question is, however, will it run it smoothly? Personally, I’m still using Catalina, just because i’m not even sure if my macbook can handle Big Sur. I’d love you to try these new OS on older devices. I know its an “old” device, but a computer is not like a phone, when i bought it i was planning on using it for at least 7-8 years, specially considering that Apple is even more expensive outside the US
Love the revamped Safari
Parts of the new visual update for Safari reminds me a lot about those versions of Internet Explorer where the tabs were placed beside the URL and the search bar.
