George Lucas has made it clear he's fairly unhappy with the direction of the Disney Sequel trilogy as he had his own outline he expected to be followed. This includes what happened to Luke Skywalker, a secret Skywalker sister, plus new younger characters that Disney/Lucasfilm ditched and more. This is all the information we have on his ideas.

George Lucas always sounds like he's holding back an absolute torrent of tears
super toaster04 lmfao
he can wipe his tears with his 2 billion dollars
Roselle Zulueta 4 actually
Cause he's a wanker
Roselle Zulueta hey, if millions of people started to hate your work you would be crying to. Hell even I would hold back tears constantly.
George Lucas is a legend. While the prequels weren't exactly masterpieces, they were still much needed in the Star Wars timeline, and I thought they were decent, to actually good films. He did not deserve the hate he got for them, and he doesn't deserve the hate he gets for them now years later. Say what you will about them, they were HIS vision. He didn't just try to remake the original trilogy just so "fans" could be happy and relive their childhood. He was his own man and did things his way. He will forever have my respect.
No need to go into the endless missteps associated with the prequels, you can check out Redlettermedia's reviews for the most comprehensive rundown of it. But I will say that the prequels were absolutely not needed and no they don't add anything new or useful to the franchise. If anything, they are a hindrance to all future franchise installments as they politely tiptoe around the canon that was established there.
Can't believe someone would believe Mr Plinkett is a good film critic
Things the prequels add to the Star Wars franchise: -The Old Republic and its political downfall -The Clone Wars -a reason for why some people use The Force but majority do not (midi-chlorians; shut up, they do _not_ create the Force, listen to Qui-Gon's explanation again) -Anakin Skywalker's fall, ergo more weight to his eventual redemption and why he's tempted by Luke's offers and suffering in Episode 6 -Obi-Wan's life, ergo more weight to the failure he blames himself for -about 12 new worlds -tons of aliens, cultures, and ships -Jango Fett, the man Boba Fett SHOULD have been (I think Lucas might've been rectifying a mistake) -the Droid Army -Christopher Lee as Count Dooku -The Sith Lords, a separate faction of Force users that fundamentally differ from Jedi -It's own in-canon mythos -a complex narrative about moral upbringing vs. lawful philosophy (i.e. Anakin's struggles with his Jedi instruction vs. his own sense of honor and good that Palpatine twisted) -Pod racing, an in-universe bit of Star Wars culture -The Outer Rim territories, a bit of pre-Empire politics that existed outside the Old Republic, showing that it was not all-encompassing All of that says that you are wrong, that the prequels added plenty to Star Wars and that they more than justify their existence. Some less than others, admittedly, but still.
I see what you're saying here, and you bring up some good points. I'm an OT kid. I was excited for the prequels. TPM came out when I was 21, so this was a big deal for me. I left the theater confused and for a while, I didn't like the direction the PT took. It took me a decade to begin to appreciate them for the things they DID do. Nothing will ever fix the terrible acting, the overuse of miniatures and CGI or the weak ass way Anakin "fell" to the dark side. But they did expand upon the lore, opened up the galaxy and showed us a time before everything was gritty and dark. That said... -The fall of the Old Republic was important to establish the future (Luke's timeline) course of events that led to the rise of the Rebel Alliance. However, while I can get behind the political corruption angle (as that is based on actual reality), setting the stage with a still unexplained hostile trade embargo and a droid army was something he could have done much better with literally 10 seconds of input from anybody. The set janitor. A cat. This is Star Wars. Having the entire fall set up with random aliens holding a figurehead hostage to secure trade was just bad storytelling in a galaxy previously known for betrayals and the obliteration of an entire planet without batting an eye. -The Clone Wars? Obi-Wan eluded to this when Luke first asked about his father. This was a very important and emotional scene. It was clear it brought pain to Obi-Wan to recall it. But clearly not important enough to be part of the film universe. You get a ten minute battle at the end of one film and a ten minute battle at the beginning of the next in which none of the previously mentioned deceit that led to the creation of the Clone Army is resolved. More or less, it was just, "Well, shit went south, but hey, Obi-Wan found these Clones of a man that tried to kill him. We should use those for reasons." That alone should have been enough to say it was a bad idea. Jango Fett taught his kid the life lesson that if someone is sniffing around asking questions, you should just murder them. But let's use a few million copies of the same dude and hope things turn out well? -We're aware midi-chlorians do not create the force. What this scene did was take away the awe and mysticism of the force. It didn't need an explanation. What Lucas did here is basically removed the mystery and replaced it with science. It would be no different than a billion Christians finding out Jesus didn't actually turn water to wine, he just knew of a certain type of wine that would change colors with a moderate temperature change. It goes from miracle to ...oh... -Anakin's fall... The short version is he was arrogant and power hungry and got pissed off after failing to be promoted to a coveted position he didn't earn, had a bad dream about his secret wife and was influenced by a politician who said he might kind of, possibly, sort of, but not really know a way to prevent a very vague dream from coming true, if only he bow down to him and then just go massacre the childrens wing at the local elementary school for reasons. The long version details this further, but it all boils down to power, as Anakin himself later said to Obi-Wan in a manner of speaking when he said he had brought peace to HIS new empire. That peace meant the death of everyone he had every known, that cared for him, wanted him to succeed and relied on him. Imagine if you had a tight group of friends, but one of them had a nightmare, went to work all pissed about it, found out they didn't get the promotion they were hoping for and rather than deal with it and do better next time, he instead murdered the rest the group, shot up a school and then tried to convince you that he was the good guy because his new boss, who he had just watched manically kill another man for the lols, said your friends were a bad influence after saving billions of people from being killed in a war he started. -I'll give you the moral upbringing part. Jedi and Sith both seek power, though one tries to convince themselves it's for the greater good versus the other for themselves. A Jedi is supposed to do certain things and pretend others don't matter, like relationships, even though they force you to rely on others and create a bond. Put the Clone Wars into play and they give Anakin, a dude the order barely trusted, his own Padawan, and an impressionable female one at that. These are people who are supposed to suppress emotion and intimacy. Can you really blame him for imploding? Are you not shocked that he is actually the first one to? A system like this would never work. And anger... Anakin can't be pissed because Jedi aren't supposed to be passionate or vengeful. But it's perfectly fine when Obi-Wan gets pissed and uses his anger to bisect Darth Maul, or later gets angry when fighting Anakin, or the arrest scene where it was pretty damn clear Jedi Master Mace Windu was both angry and was taking pleasure in the fact that he was going to have to kill Palpatine simply because he was a Sith. In the long run, both sides were flawed, and I think the prequels did a great job showing this. -Also, why, after a decade, does no one ever bring up that Yoda clearly knew what was about to go down? Says no to training Anakin, but agrees to it anyway. Spends years saying Anakin is unstable, but doesn't question him about it. He felt and knew when Anakin went on the rampage on Tatooine. He knew what Anakin's dreams were and told him to shut them out. He was the only Jedi to sense his assassins coming and left moments later on a Yoda-sized escape pod he had the foresight to hide all to go meet up with obi-Wan, who he directed to not look at the tapes to see who attacked the temple, ran away from a fight with a person he could have clearly eaten alive if he wanted to just to go into exile, and was the person who said the twins should be separated "until the time is right". He saw all of this coming and decided the best course of action was to wait it out and then manipulate the son of the man who was unstable into murdering him and the emperor with little training. It was never about Luke becoming a Jedi, it was about exploiting Anakin's weakness for love and acceptance and family; he turned Luke into a weapon against him knowing it would create a domino effect. But this is never spoken about anywhere.
agreed word for word. From what I understand, Lucas at the time of TESB had left or had been banned from the Hollywood Director's Guild which made it hard for him to hire "mainstream directors." Kersher, if i'm not mistaken, was an Independent director at the time and was not part of the Guild so Lucas hired him. The same with Marquand who was still a young, unknown director and was rumored to have wanted Spielberg to direct ROTJ but couldn't. if he was still banned from the Director's Guild in the 90s, I guess we can understand why he had to go it alone for the prequels. After the criticism he got for the prequels, he likely had no choice but to sell the franchise like Disney where they have access to the Guilds, screen/script-writers, film editors, etc. I'm also assuming by selling it to this company he probably felt they wouldn't go too far from the look and feel of the SW franchise and keep its integrity.
The Emperor will be revealed in the 9th film Huh
I’m thinking this was most likely the plan before return of the Jedi was that version of the film and was a lot darker maybe the emperor wouldn’t have been revealed for 20 more years, kind of fascinating
the one thing they saved- i reckon lucas interpreted it a bit better than in the ep 9 we got
The Emperor only being in the ninth film was BEFORE Lucas decided to only make six movies. What we got with the Emperor in ROTJ was more or less what we would've seen in Ep. 9, only in that plot Luke would've been joined by his real sister "Nellith". Get it now bright eyes?
Palpatine back!? Whata joke
@@white-dragon4424 Right. They were supposed to defeat Vader by the end of 6, find his sister (not Leia), team up and defeat the Emperor by 9. But Star Wars is about lightsaber fights and tech-battles. Who would they lightsaber duel without Vader? Sounds like people at Disney took his press clippings he'd said over the years as well as his treatment and put them through a blender.
This video has aged so well.
God this hurts
Like wine
5:28 hasn't.
After watching rise of the skywalker it seems like Abram's may have tried to cram as many of the George Lucas ideas into that movie.
Yes
It is really weird to watch this film and see the Frankenstein pieces from his outlines that got used now that the whole thing is over.
Yeah like the underwater death star
its so true damnit
Had Episode 9 done something diffrent, and followed the story Rian Johnson set up, it could have worked. This is why some people choose to believe the story ended with The Last Jedi. Granted I do love many elements from The Rise Of Skywalker. Thoughts?
It doesn't make any sense to "choose" to believe something. Belief is a feeling. Feelings can't be chosen. If Rise of Skywalker had followed up on anything The Last Jedi had explored, it could have been a great movie. That's just not the movie we got. The movie we got is a hot mess on every level. Some people don't have a positive emotional reaction to The Last Jedi because its different. That's fine, but then they try to justify it with twisted logic they would never apply to any other movie. That's on them. Their feelings, that they came to this movie, and it didn't have what they wanted is valid. Their twisted, arrested development reaction is disingenuous.
@@ejspecht9184 for me, the last Jedi was where most of the story ended, the rise of Skywalker is a fun epilogue that shouldnt be taken too seriously
I still don't understand why Lucas didn't let a different director than himself direct the prequels. He could still influence and shape the movies as he wanted like he did with V and VI.
DarthMessias I totally agree. I also don't understand why he felt he had to rush to get em done. Have you read about that? He owned the entire company and could've taken as long as he liked to make the prequel trilogy, yet you see it right there in the behind-the-scenes videos: FIRST draft churned out mere WEEKS before the start of shooting. No wonder they turned out as broken and illogical as they did.Makes no Obi-Wan sense...
DarthMessias While making the original trilogy, Lucas reportedly got into a lot of fights with Gary Kurtz, and plenty of other people tended to disagree with him on things. Lucas probably wanted to be surrounded by yes men this time around.
I read somewhere he actually asked other directors such as Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis to do them, but they refused because they thought he owned the right to do them himself. I don't know if this story is true but I would have loved to see a Robert Zemeckis Star Wars movie. (and a Spielberg one, of course!)
L'Élan à Vapeur One of these was David Lynch. Imagine that!
I didn't know about Lynch! That would have been quite interesting too!
"and the emperor will finally be unveiled in episode 9" wow, perhaps Disney never dropped these original ideas?
yes Disney has been trolling us for years and a lot of people still haven't realized that lol
@@jedediahgordon4064 glad i am not the only one who came back to these OG videos haha. When concept art showed things like Anakin coming back, and the Death Star submerged in water its all just coming true, these must be the ideas Lucas pitched. I mean why couldn't Disney hire the best writers in the movie industry from the start of the sequels, i mean film makers like Christopher Nolan has been making quality story telling for a while now. They are beginning to now make quality content, but only after learning from their mistakes. Its just, a shame.
Perhaps merging that early idea -which did sound awesome-back in for Episode IX in some form or element is on the cards. It is for that reason that I think Rey could actually be part of the SKYWALKER blood line at least in the sense that she may have the same Daddy as Anakin...
Good point@@RogueWJL on a side note, Anakin was born into the force. But in that sense you could be right if she also was just 'born into the force' that would be interesting to say the least. Can't wait for Ep 9!
@@oneiroagent I agree, TLJ and Rogue One are my favorite new films, and I have nothing against the others. I feel the only concept people fail to understand is that the last jedi is a great film, and its not Rian Johnson's fault, its Disney's fault for not writing all three movies on a timeline, just allowing directors to show up and create their own stories, creating problems for the next installment. Disney likes their money, but they understand that they have to make something good and what the audience wants in order to make more money, hence the emperor in episode 9.
After the sequel trilogy we got, i truly wish Lucas had more of a role in creating it. The prequels may be whacky and pretty poor in some places but to be honest, i prefer the story they tell to the unorganised mess of the sequels.
Duncan C Robertson amen
I feel like the only real downsides to the Prequels were Anakin’s dialogue, and probably Jar Jar. I don’t mind the character so much, but watching him again, the accent is kinda horrendous. The actor stands by it though, which makes me respect the character more. Natalie Portman’s dialogue wasn’t great either, but that wasn’t her fault, she’s proved she’s a great actress. Liam Neeson, Ewan MacGregor, and Ian McDiarmid were all astounding, Temuera Morrison was a badass, Samuel L Jackson was, well, Samuel L Jackson, the visuals and the music were some of the best in film making history and I would say still are, like they’ve aged pretty damn well, have to say. Not to mention the world that the Prequels inhabit, that time period, is bar none the best setting out of all three, just great for EU content. I mean both Clone Wars series were fantastic. And the books are all great, though it’s a shame they decanonized them. I would’ve loved if George Lucas had creative control over the sequel trilogy. Maybe not quite as direct control over them as the prequels, but definitely a guiding hand.
Thebluebridgetroll He shouldn’t have put R2 or C3PO in it either made no sense that obi wan wouldn’t recognise them
Exactly
@@callummcalpine6613 he actually recognised r2 it is shown a little later on the falcon where he calls him an old friend, i think
Star Wars is the most clear-cut example of how a creator can become a victim of his/her own success.
Kurt Nakanishi Yeah.Reminds me of Steve Jobs though.
Kurt Nakanishi But why did he keep making Star Wars Movies? He should have moved on and let someone else continue Star Wars earlier.
pSyk follow the money
Perfection?
the problem was that George saw Star Wars as his baby, he didn't want someone else coming along and changing what he envisioned. I honestly feel really bad for the guy you can tell that even to this day he carries alot of that hurt around with him that people gave him over the prequels. He just wanted to tell his story but people including fans kept trying to tell him what to do with these movies.
Lucas seems so sad all the time :(
17 years later people are still complaining about Jar Jar Binks.
It really was that bad.
Soniti1324 no. It really wasnt that bad.
+Ein random Hurensohn He looks exactly the same (sad, plump, wet-eyed) during the extra content from the late 90's special editions, so I don't think it's solely a product of criticism over the shitty prequels.
Yeah the fans spent a decade taking a long shit on the prequels he made. when in reality their story is fine and only have one or two annoying sub characters and some annoying cography. compared to gaping plot holes and shit casting.
George always had amazing concepts and stories. He's much more original than people give him credit for. The problem is that he's not the best filmmaker or dialogue writer. I would love to see his story from the execution of a more competent director and writer.
LukeTheGeek Quite the opposite. He gets way TOO much credit for originality. His only real successes have come from repackaging movie serials. And Kurosawa.
The prequels had great moments. They also had some abysmal ones. George needed a critique partner. Someone to tell him what worked and what didn't. As soon as he appeared, in Episode II, Anakin was unlikable. That shouldn't have been the case.
What about Dave Filoni as his director and writer
George Lucas - writer Steven Spielberg- director
Imagine Tarantino doing a Darth Vader interrogation scene.
Lucas: "I have complete confidence in Kathy".... Lol. Boy that blew up in his face
not really, if anything it made people more sympathetic to him and the prequels because Disney shit the bed and now people are seriously thinking the prequels weren't so bad in comparison to the sequels
He meant that he had complete confidence that Disney's check would clear. Honestly, the man got so much flack for the prequels, I can't blame him for washing his hands of the whole thing. He was thoroughly disrespected by the fans. He created this story and universe, and all he gets is endless complaints about how he doesn't understand his own creation.
@@Ntyler01mil He didn't, Disney just didn't much either
Damn right, Kathleen Kennedy you b*tch.
Old George Lucas looks so sad, like he's full of regret =(
He talks about people criticizing his work, but he doesn't seem to realize that he's his own worst critic. He'll never be satisfied with the fact that he's made some of the greatest movies that this, or any generation, will ever see. This is evidenced by the fact that he's gone back and made so many changes to the original trilogy, which is one of the main things that has gotten him so much criticism.
watch the new video of Empire Strikes errr..... I mean The Last Jedi. They just couldn't be original could they?
MrHappyBollox The creator of Star Wars never had a shortage of money. Where more would be pointless.
+MrHappyBollox That doesn't really make sense. Just by upgrading the quality of the recording is more than enough of an argument to buy it and pretty much the main reason anyone did buy it.
Nah, he always looks like that, rarley showing any emotion.
I would have liked to see a George Lucas version of Episode 7 just for the sake of franchise consistency.
So, you don't think Empire is canon?
The EMPIRE "story" was written by Lucas with script by Kasdan. Actually that's what hurt the Prequels, sole creative control. George has good ideas and a cinematic eye, but that's about all. These new films might have benefited from having a Lucas story basis, we'll never know. I personally am not looking forward to seeing what "they" have planned for Luke.
There would be self-declareed "purist" Star Wars fans who will only accept the Lucas sequels as canon vs the Disney sequels fans. This great schism would eventually lead to a Star Wars, ah, wars. I have to admit, I'd probably side with Lucas's Space Opera.
I agree Lucas as a hole is far more talented than Disney's goofys.
+The Devil's Dragon 'Space Opera' XD The man made a schlock 70's sci-fi film that was saved in editing, please don't attribute Empire to him..
Mark Hamill as an Obi-Wan type character. Yeah that would have been nice...
Blake Thomas there’s always legends I know it hurts to know what Disney did to Luke but in legends he’s like a god so that’s good
So you want it to just completely follow the original movies?
Bhiner1029 there was no point for like to die
@@brysonstiles6737 Idk why you people say shit like this, Disney hasn't hurt anything. That was Rian Johnson and about half of the fan base liked what he did.
@Conn Benn Yup and that's just hardcore fans. Most casuals like it too.
It’s weird how much you described episode 9
I have been a star wars fan since 1996 when I saw A New Hope at the age of 8. In 1999 I saw Phantom Menace and was blown away. Sure for a guy in his 30's Phantom Menace would be considered a bit childish. But for a kid it was mindblowing, never seen those types of CGI ever. The prequels created a whole new generation of avid star wars fans. I was apart of the lucky group who started out with only the originals available, but the prequels made me into a huge fan and captivated me even more. Say what you want. I really enjoyed the prequels .
Agree. I really enjoyed the prequels but not Jar jar
100% agree.
well that was the idea...marketing and selling more toys
Boondock Taint the prequels weren't that bad, wasn't a fan of ep 1, but that was mainly due to Natalie Portman, young Anakin and jarjar. Story wasn't bad, acting was horrible. Now, When I watched these last 2, I felt the acting was horrible, character progression is lacking or non existent, and the story which really could've gone somewhere dark, awesome, and complex, is just bland predictable nonsense. I wanted to like the new movies, I really did, just can't, don't see how people could. They just weren't good. Hate to say it, but I left the theater feeling the same way I did years ago after watching Spiderman 3, seriously... That's how bad I thought it was.
TheOneTheOnly W I didnt like the direction Last Jedi went at all. So much potential thrown away imo. Great Visuals and graphics on the space battles tho. Honestly the first three are in a class of their own. I gave TLJ a 8.5/10. Its been ANH-9.0 ESB-9.5 RotJ-9.0 TPM-7.0 AotC-6.5 RotS-8.0 TFA-7.5 TLJ-8.5 RO-8.5
The only way I ever would have cared about this new trilogy is if Lucas was part of it. Lucas IS Star Wars and I'm kind of sick of the crybaby "fans" who have belittled this amazing film maker. I dare any of them to make even a two minute short that has had as much influence on millions of people the way George's films have.
Jason Schlierman i would dare George Lucas to make a film that had as much influence as George Lucas, personally
Jason Schlierman I agree! I feel sorry for George Lucas!
Thank the gods for Lucas sold SW to Disney.... Rogue one was one of the best SW movies ever made!!!!!!!
Morten Iversen i completley agree, ive been wanting for years a star wars movie that focuses on the other parts of the universe rather than just "lightsabers are cool"
Yeah I agree, it is cool to have a SW movie that dont have all the focus to sith and jedi. It open up the SW umivers so must more, to the ones that only see SW movies... And that will make even more see how great SW really is. And even if Vader was only in Rouge one for 3-4 min. there is only one thing to say... Whey made those 3-4 min so fucking awesome, that it was hard not to drool after you seen it :-)
Jaena, Jacen, and Anakin Solo should've been the focal point of the sequel trilogy.
That would have been cool...
Jaina*
I love Jaina, that would have been great! I love Anakin Solo, too. Jacen is pretty similar Kylo, but Jacen was much more competent.
Agreed
That would have been really neat
Coming back to this now... oh boy the absolute shitfight from every angle. The stories that we’ll never really see. Poor George.
Seeing Lucas' ideas is my biggest dream.
Yeah, but you don't know maybe they will use some of his ideas.. Force awakens was just new hope in modern shell (you can even call it reboot) that's it, rogue one was better and more original, i just hope that they have balls to make a good movie and not another reboot. Although as video says divorce had big effect on him and as saying goes only a true woman can inspire a man to do great things, so we might just have seen another good but not great trilogy.
I agree
I understand why Disney didn't take the ideas, I mean, it was a smart move *business-wise*. But I feel really bad for George that his story ideas weren't used because Disney wanted something totally different from the Prequels. And again, I can't say I blame them for that, it *was* a smart move. Who I do blame, are the millions of babies (as you so eloquently put it, Mr. Sunday) who have RELENTLESSLY bashed George Lucas and his ideas since 1999. *SINCE 19-FRICKING-99!!!* It's hard to put exactly what I mean into words, but George, when thinking up Episode VII, wanted to make something new, to really *progess* the story (whether it would have been any good, we may never know). But the last time he did that was when he made the Prequels, which are universally hated and unfairly bashed upon, and yes, those movies weren't all that good, but the way people just turned on George is pretty disgusting. He made the films he wanted to make, and people hated (and still hate) him for it. *Way to encourage original/progressive filmmaking...* Disney made an unfortunate choice (but, like I said, it made perfect sense why) in not using George's ideas, and instead made a movie that would please the Prequel-hating OT fanboys. Don't get me wrong, I loved TFA, and it WAS a very well made film IMHO, but I'll admit it was lacking in originality in many places. But, like the hypocrites many fans are, a lot of folks who hated the Prequels now bash TFA for not using Lucas' ideas. *But didn't you just say he raped your childhood...?* Luckily, Disney has made it pretty clear that they intend to move forward with creative new stories that push the plot into new directions instead of retreading old steps, as if TFA was sort of a note to the hardcore OT fans, "Don't worry, we got this." Hopefully, that is true, and hopefully Star Wars fans, be they OT-only, PT-only, newbies, lovers of the whole Saga, or just anybody, *hopefully* they can at least give the respect George Lucas deserves. He may not be the greatest director, but he's damn well one of the greatest and kindest people alive, and that at least deserves a mention, don't you think? Sorry for the (somewhat aimless-was it aimless?😂) rant. MTFBWY! Always.... (Seriously though, his ideas should be used in some way or form going forward. It's pretty disrespectful to trash it)
If they took them they would not tell you. All they've done so far was ripp of the original starwars.
Well said. Perhaps at least a nod in the direction of GL's ideas for what VII was going to be.
Original filmmaking and the prequels? Oh my...
CheeseOfMasters shut up you hater I love the prequels they defined my childhood just the ot did for others
those jerks who sang George Lucas raped their childhood they should be happy Lucas let them have a cool universe childhood to play in.
Wanna know how I know, that the new trilogies are not real trilogies or canon? NO ONE LOSES A HAND, OR ANY OTHER LIMBS in the new trilogies, not one single person or alien, we all know it’s not a Star Wars film unless someone loses a limb.
I mean Kylo got scarred in TFA, Snoke got his top cut off like Maul in TLJ. The Rise of Skywalker has no dismemberment aside from someone getting their head cut off
Episode 1: Darth Maul cut in half Episode 2: Anakin's forearm Episode 3: Anakin's legs and other arm Episode 4: The arm of that guy in the cantina Episode 5: Luke's hand Episode 6: Darth Vader's metal hand
J P also, Jango Fett loses his head, Mace Windu his hand, Count Dooku, both hands and head, cantina guy loses arm in a new hope, I mean it’s like a right of passage for a Star Wars film.
Evan Light scar isn’t losing something, and yeah on snoke, and who loses their head in ROS??????
@@princesssmileyface91 The first order spy at the start of the movie, Kylo leaves his head on a table. Also there was a deleted scene from tfa of Chewbacca ripping Unkar Plutts arms off
"The Emperor being unveiled in Episode 9, the Death Star being submerged in water, a map to Luke Skywalker." So Kathleen did keep a fair few of these ideas. Also apparently George Lucas has been involved with Episode 9 a fair bit so hopefully it should be a fitting end that will please as many people as possible
don't forget Vaders castle, which is in Rogue One, and we might honestly get Anakins ghost if the rumors allign lol
@The SNES Man I would disagree completely, I loved 7 and 8 as did a lot of people. A lot didn't like them either but a lot of people hated/hate the prequels. Star Wars has been "ruined" time and time again. But I still enjoy them all
@The SNES Man Yeah I get that. In the original books though the Empire just come back exactly the same. So either way it would always be more Stormtroopers. I think 7 and 8 have their flaws but are still great fun. But I get why some people don't like them, like you said each to their own
Keeping interesting vignettes is unimportant if you're going to take them completely out of their intended context.
Uh nope apparently not
Success comes with a curse; when a fandom grows too much, it's bound to create a community of assholes that will endlessly whine about anything much to chagrin of content creators.
yeap totally true....I mean yes, sometimes the movie creators or game developers just get it wrong...they DO create movies or games that are in one way or another clearly worse than their predecessors....but ye when fandom starts to cry when thing goes too different, that everything should stay EXACTLY the same, things get stale and boring...like TFA was. Not a bad movie, but clearly one that was created to please everyone who hated the prequels, not a single risk taken whatsoever in that movie. That's what happens when people who create entertainment products start to listen to their fandom too much about certain things, it totally kills the creativity and you have to "do things in certain way and cant experiment" like Lucas said, and this is especially so with big budget projects.
You see it with Game of thrones, Harry Potter and Lord of the rings
Yes, but what if the contest is genuinely terrible? :)
It also creates pinheads who will swallow any pablum shoved into their stupid gaping maw.
I find prequel hate was mostly a sheep's trend.
I wish he didn't sell out to Disney, he should told the story HE wanted
hahahaha it my own opinion, how is that wrong?
well its like .. the difference between a cake and a pile of shit. One of them is strictly better in a majority consensus.
Michael, you are indeed entitled to your own opinion, but that doesn't mean it is a good one...
I agree he should have done episode 7 and then sell it that way they have to do it his way.
uScaredHD dude, the prequels are supposed to be the way they are to show what the Star Wars universe WAS before the Empires destruction. Ep4-6 is the aftermath of what is happening in a post Jedi extinction world. That's what made the original trilogy so intriguing. I am too curious to see what Lucas had in store for us next 😕
I believe that the man Lucas was a genius but Its sad how The fans screwed him over because of the prequels
*singing* George Lucas raped my childhood.
Thanos he screwed himself over by not working with others closely.
He let others play in his sandbox and made unfathomable amounts of money from that. He then stubbornly, arrogantly decided to incorporate essentially none of their great ideas, or even just inviting them to be part of the creative process, when he made the prequels, which were fucking garbage from start to finish. He then sold - of his own volition - to Disney, making so much money in the process that normal people can't even comprehend a way to spend that all in our ancestors' lifetimes... Yeah. Sad.

People all of a sudden like the Prequels? I swear i remember when people would bash the prequels non stop, Alot of people hate it and now people are hating on ep 7. My conclusion is that people wanted something like the empire strikes back but always ended up with something not as dark or what they expected. I'm betting 10 years from now you'll have all these people admire the sequel trilogy and you'll have all these people bashing some old republic movie. Star wars is Star wars. It has never won oscars and has been panned universally by critics and fans alike. It has a large fanbase that could be split into different factions and no Star wars movie will ever make every single one of them happy, I guarantee you.
no. i think TFA is the worst one. even for me TLJ was better not the best but atleast better than TFA
People didn't like Jar Jar Binks and some of the other elements in the films intended to appeal to children. Some of the dialogue is poorly written. Some of the CGI is a bit jarring. People also didn't like how the conflict built up slowly from a seemingly insignificant "trade dispute." They also didn't like the scientific explanation of the Force that was introduced in the prequels. However, I think people now see that the overarching narrative of the prequels made sense and was compelling. The can now see what happens when someone attempts to continue the franchise without a clear story direction or new ideas. Repeating the same visual themes -no matter how breathtaking- without a compelling plot is pointless.
@Benjamin Cline yes and no, it was mainly for visual effects, good writing was only praised in empire strikes back.
You do realise star wars was the biggest box office grossing film of all time when it released right? And won a bunch of academy awards and changed cinema forever? The original trilogy were good movies. Star Wars was a good standalone space fantasy adventure based on cowboys, knights and samurai. The empire strikes back was a fantastic sequel as it developed the ideas first seen in Star Wara and was importantly a different film from Star Wars. Return of the Jedi was a bit of a mess but still had a very satisfying conclusion and a lot of good character moments for Luke and Vader. That's why they worked they were good movies. They weren't an epic history or particularly interesting lore.
@Vino Still thinking this dumb shit
I find it quite funny that TFA got hate for being "too similar" to ANH, mirroring it too much, when they don't realize that this has been a Star Wars trope for a long time, even back during the OT. Lucas learned that if you reused and rehashed a concept, you could strike gold and that's what he did with the OT. In the Prequels, he tried mirroring the OT but failed in nearly every way that made the OT special. Regardless, most of the similarities between TFA and ANH are usually oversimplified. You can draw similarities, sure, but context is typically much different. ANH doesn't open up with a ground assault on a village leading to a massacre. It doesn't have a lightsaber as a major plot changing device and it doesn't end on a lightsaber duel. We also don't follow the perspective of a rogue Stormtrooper. Those are just some examples. All in all, Disney is doing fairly well with Star Wars so far. It's reinvigorated Star Wars, suddenly making it relevant again. A brand new trilogy with a critically acclaimed opening film, and they finally cut off the rotting flesh that was the EU. And in regards to feeling bad for Lucas, sure, he certainly doesn't deserve the hate and harassment he got after the Prequels, but he certainly deserved every bit of criticism. This is what happens when you make a film series with manufacturing business in mind. The Prequels failed as films because Lucas handled it in a production line level of quality, only thinking about what he can sell from this. He didn't care about stories or characters, only how he could transform them into toys and sell them afterwards. There was nothing Disney could ruin that Lucas didn't already ruin himself.
No dude....Star Wars isnt supposed to be the same damn thing. It never was and never should be. Why do people limit their standards like this just to look smart?
Could not agree more. As much as I did not like a few elements of TFA (Starkiller base mostly), it did have some original twists, as you pointed out. And has everyone forgotten that the re-hashing was begun by Lucas as early as ROTJ. A second Death Star? That plot point always bothered me.
You forget that the original draft of the Star Wars movie (The Star Wars, methinks) the story (which I assume was supposed to be a 1963 Cleopatra, Japanese samurai, sword and sandals, 6-hour style epic and not a trilogy) was supposed to end with the Death Star. Of course, things being what they were, Lucas had to shorten things out. Which is why we got another Death Star in ROTJ (and in the draft for that movie, there were supposed to be more). Besides, it does make some sense for a mad dictator to make a second version of a mega-weapon after the first was destroyed. But TFA did have things that annoyed me more than Jar Jar - like shaky cam and lens flare, and the fact that a man raised as a soldier from childhood acted more like a raw recruit than Master Chief. And yes, if it weren't for the fact that this was a trilogy, I too would consider Rey a very shallow character. And a Mary Sue.
i don't know being a storm trooper you don't think for your self, he is totally not used to being "free" and that would be a great plot point going forward.
how is Rey a shallow character?
To me I've always felt like its George Lucas imagination, which is why it was so good. It's not about what the fans want to see, it's what played out in George Lucas's mind and we are seeing it thru his eyes. And he's right, it is a story about family and generations. I'm sure George had a clear vision. And the best part about was the feeling it brought. From the music to the scenes. George felt that and so made it real! Which is why the ending to Episode 3 is so intense. Rogue Ones ending was great but it wasn't as intense as it should have been if George had directed that scene. Again, this George's dream world, not ours not Disney's. Therefore nothing will compare or will ever be what George had intended from the start. And personally I'll never be fully happy because of it.
C H at least we got ep3 and the prequels. we can always shit on disney, but i wish we didnt have to.
I think youre right that star wars is sustained through his incredible imagination but it must be said that film is a collaborative artform and the originals are good because of his willingness to collaborate with different writers and directors whereas the prequels are all exclusively written and directed by him and thats why they suffer in a lot of areas. And i must say that im dissapointed we never got to see some of his ideas for the sequel trilogy.
I highly doubt that they just completely scrapped all his ideas. Maybe for ep. 7, but im sure there are some things they have hand picked to include in 8 or 9. We will see
LMAO you really think George Lucas would have made a better Rogue One ending? As if the ending of Revenge of the Sith is any of a good implication lol
I regret that these sequels exist. It brings everything down
In my opinion, the "Legends" book series is episode 7-9. They make a lot more sense and seem truer to the characters than the movies. Episode 8 angered me so much-that was NOT the way Luke Skywalker would act! Beyond that, the Empire was defeated in the Legends story and a new enemy emerged (an extragalactic enemy) So much better than retreading the ground of the Empire. It makes the entire Rebellion of Eps 4-6 seem meaningless. That I can't stand
@@oneiroagent lmao, you clearly don't know Star Wars at all
@@oneiroagent the fact that he just gave up for 30 years and hid is just not Luke. Im glad in the end he redeemed himself but still he let the empire return and everything
@@oneiroagent So... in the movies, Leia and Han named their baby Ben. You know, after a dude that one of them didn't know, and the other met for a week or so. Right-o. In the EU, things made sense; there were editors and the writers loved the series, so they treated it with respect. Unlike the money-grab movies which are terrible *because* they weren't about telling a good story. Luke was never the type of person that would think about killing Ben, so your argument that his actions make sense just don't track; any conclusion you come to based on a false premise is flawed. Saying he's defeated because he thought about murdering Ben is silly, when he wouldn't have thought about murdering Ben in the first place. Not sure how much Star Wars content you've consumed, but Luke was never the type of person who believed in giving up hope because of a prophecy. He tried to redeem Vader even though everybody told him Vader was lost; he confronted Vader even though his training in Dagobah warned him that he could become Vader himself.
We don't know exactly why he cut himself off from the force or what the bigger picture is yet so just sit down and wait for the saga to finish jfc
@@oneiroagent I would. But Luke *did* have that chance to kill Vader, and he chose not to. He redeems him. And you think he'd choose differently when it's Ben, somebody he mentored, his nephew? Instead of space Hitler (who was also his father)? Like... are you familiar with Star Wars, dude?
I would have rather George Lucas's vision. Star Wars is his
The prequels were his vision. They were bloody rubbish.
Martin Brody naw I think the story was amazing just a poor choice or actors. And Jar Jar Binks
I loved the prequels. I think that with something so big, there is just no pleasing. They had all the same ingredients and formulas as the old ones.
I don't even mind Jar Jar Binks. He was there, and he had his purpose. All the films had characters like him inserted for humor and lightening mood
the prequels were better than Episode VII even Episode II had me more interested than Episode VII which only good part was the lightsaber fight and Luke appearing.
I would have liked to see his version of the sequel trilogy.
It was going to be about 8-16 year olds, Luke in his 30s or 40s. That was confirmed in 2012. Lucas said it would've been more family friendly, directed more towards kids "Two days after it was announced, the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney and the revelation of a new trilogy of “Star Wars” films on the way continues spur discussion, excitement, speculation and more. We’re still three years out from ‘Episode VII’ arriving in 2015, but given the amount of updates and tidbits pouring out over the past 48 hours, you would think it was coming next month. What we do know thus far is that, once again bucking fan expectations, Lucas has decided to no longer use the revered books, the expanded universe as it is known, as they were mostly not his creations, not his stories but the ideas of others which were officially licensed by Lucasfilm with Lucas retaining the rights to draw from those stories, change them as he saw fit for future projects or avoid them all together which it appears he was now doing. Instead Lucas is launching an original story, one that will reportedly feature Luke Skywalker, now in his 30s or 40s, in a tale that will follow “Stars Wars: Episode IV - Return Of The Jedi. and will feature a young cast aged 8-16 as the new stars” Lucas felt the franchise needs to get back to being geared more towards families and kids, less darker than previous films. And while a treatment is done, it appears that George Lucas was open to other ideas."
I definitely agree with you Rj, I wish that happened.
yep
+Rj The true sequel trilogy
It would be very interesting
Love or hate the prequels, at least they were creative and original. We can't say the same for Episode VII.
Who gives a fuck if something is original? Doesn’t change the fact that it’s bad
No they are not... When they were new i think same as you, but Prequels are well sited to a young (Ep1), girls (romance of Anakin and Padme) and teenagers (battles in Ep2 and 3 have no rivality in new ones). They have still a own plot, deep storyline and characters, maybe not too deep, but with look at 7/8 its a dramatic difference. (I still like even a new episodes, but its a big fall from story to just fun)
@@8PedroFerreira ROTS is actually original AND good. And the originals are not nearly as good as many nostalgia-driven fans I'm guessing like yourself think they are. They share virtually ALL the same flaws as the prequels (albeit, nothing as bad as Jar-jar).
Creative and original? That's complete hogwash. I'll take Ep's 7 and 8 over 1 and 2 any day
I love Ep. 1-3. Why? Because they came out in my childhood! I'm pretty sure the line between those who love them and those who hate them can be drawn in between the generations of who was a child when the episodes came to cinema. The new ones: I hardly doubt anybody will ever love them.
Prequels get more hate than they deserve. I’d take Lucas’ original concept any day over the garbage that is the sequels.

this video is excellent. Never knew he had planned 3 trilogies back in 1980

cool
Yet, when I've mentioned that over the past several years, I get fanboys calling me a liar......
why
No idea, really. Problem is that I was around when the series started, and whenever I try to tell people what people at the time thought and knew about it, that reaction comes up. Just as an example, when I point out that in the first couple movies Luke & Leia weren't related, that they only were made related to resolve the whole "love-triangle" without making anyone "lose" - I get these clowns that start insisting that every aspect of the series was perfectly planned from the beginning, and will argue even the most minute points to the death....
I love what George said at 1:28 It drives me nuts how so many writers, studios, etc are so afraid to branch away from the original characters despite having a vast world or galaxy to explore. And to hear the creator of Star Wars talk about an character outside of the original fold elsewhere in the galaxy is a huge thing for me.
I remember growing up watching the prequels, I was a child, I had the the original 3 movies on vcr and never really watched them always liked the prequels better, still do.
I was born a couple of years before the Phantom Menace was released, and i grew up watching both the originals and the prequels, so i actually enjoy and feel nostalgic about all six of them.
I grew up with the prequels too, while I see their flaws I actually enjoy the lore and characters of the prequel/clone wars era more
I grew up with the originals, but it´s silly not to admit the truth: The prequels are actually the better movies!
Disney shits on Star Wars by making these movies. It's disgusting. The prequels are great I think it's just that it sort of became a meme which didn't help. But the fight scenes are amazing. To say that all of the Phantom Menace was terrible is not true. There was the pod racing and Anakin flying around in space and the amazing Darth Maul fight. I love the Prequels and nobody can take that away from me.
Still don't know why everyone hates the prequels.
There are many reasons.
I don't know one.
radio7 you are blind then
A good series to watch would be the "What if Episode # Was Good" by belated media to get why most fans were very disappointed with the prequels. He doesn't do a perfect job rewriting them, but he gets a lot of things right. But to name a few of the issues, George Lucas broke one of the greatest rules of storytelling "show don't tell". He does this in many instances, but a glaring example is Anakin and Obi-Wan's relationship in Episode 2. Instead of showing us that Anakin and Obi-Wan were great friends through their actions, he decided to tell us that they were by having them talk about a few past memories on an elevator ride, then for the rest of the film they are honestly pretty terrible to each other. In The Phantom Menace Jar Jar Binks added absolutely nothing to the story, the one thing that he did useful to the plot line was guide the Jedi to Otoh Gunga. There are many ways to guide characters to a hidden city that don't involve tethering an otherwise useless/annoying/poo-joke character to the main cast. A majority of the dialogue (particularly in 1 and 2) is cringe-worthy. The franchise is called Star "Wars", count the number of scenes in the prequels that involve absolutely nothing more than "walking and talking" or "sitting and talking", be warned, there are many. The excess of CGI as opposed to practical effects and puppetry feels fake and is more expensive to produce (and I'm a 3D modeler). There are some pretty serious inconsistencies, like Leia remembering the sadness of her mother in Episode 6, but then being whisked away by Bail Organa at birth in 3.
I find the original trilogy the most boring one.

Analysts have said _The Empire Strikes Back_ plus _Return of the Jedi_ are together a repeat of _Star Wars_ with minor variations. The rebels lose a battle. The hero meets a Jedi Master that gives him some training. One of the principals is captured who has to be rescued. The Jedi Master dies. There's a space battle to destroy the Death Star. Celebration.
I would love to see what Lucas had in mind, and I really feel bad for him. He seems like a great guy and people are really too hard on him. Nonetheless, he's certainly an inspiration to me and he did some really great stuff. So thank you George
Inspirational to the max! He was one who believed digital technology could change the film industry back in the 80s and he insisted of achieving that goal, now look at Pixar and ILM and the rest of the industry.
too little, too late
I would have preferred to see his story being made, but not directed or written by him.
That would've been the ideal outcome. Lucas is neither a great director nor writer, but he's a wildly imaginative storyteller.
YESSSSS! You said it so truly :D
ditto
yeah, that would be so perfect, because its the way the empire strikes back was done, Lucas gave the storyline and Leigh Brackett with Lawrence Kasdan did the screenplay, if Lucas gave the storyline and other writters do the rest that would be a perfect sequel trilogy... i think...
YEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!
Disney: we want to make something for the fans Lucas: all i want to do is to tell a story I think this tells everything about why disney failed. You don't write a story to please fans you write a story to tell a story.
Disney gave us recycled materiall run thru the shredder and stitched back together with the good parts missing and bad material added. Something for the fans indeed. They killed off all the clasic cast and gave us unlikable charecters. How was this ever for the fans? Speaking from two years in the future, i say i would definitely prefer Lucas' version of the third trillogy whatever it'd be, The Last Jedi is just... meh Also i never understood the hate towards the second trillogy, sure it wasn't top quality but it was enjoyable, and Obi-Wan was definitely one of the best characters in Star Wars especially if you watched Clone Wars show.

Right now, I am missing Lucas badly.
I know the feeling. Disney need his wisdom and direction
The "wisdom" that gave us the prequels? Yippee, yousa bombad poo-doo, sand gets everywhere, Jedi get there powers from little men living in their blood bullshit. And the original trilogy wasn't perfect, either. Anyone who truly believes Lucas meant for Luke and Leia to be siblings is an idiot.
Yeah, the prequels weren't the best. He should've got different directors other than himself to make them like he has done in the past. He just doesn't seem like the best director but seems like a good visionary. Personally, Star Wars is dead to me. George Lucas certainly didn't rape my childhood. Disney did. They fucked over the EU and I hated Episode 7. I also think JJ Abrams should just stop directing. He looks rat-faced but with the directing style of Michael Bay. Haven't seen Rogue One. It will be the first Star Wars film I never saw in theater. Don't plan on seeing 8 or 9. I hate Disney Corporation. I think anyone who was born in the 80s and grew up with Star Wars is probably missing George by now.
Although I agree with you about Disney Corporation and JJ Abrams face, I am not missing George Lucas and I grew up in the 80's and 90's. I think I saw the story in Episode 7 for all its good because I never got into Expanded Universe. That's probably what gave you expectations prior to giving Ep.7 a full chance. But yeah, no strange alien worlds, too many winks to other Star Wars references, and no explanation of all that happened during the huge amount of time that passed seriously bogged down Ep.7.
bentonrp >Although I agree with you about Disney Corporation and JJ Abrams face This is all I need to know. Maybe they'll find some decent directors to make good side movies. I dunno yet. I wasn't huge into the expanded universe. But, I gotta say I liked the EU's version of events after episode 6 much better. If you're ever bored you should download (or buy) "Dark Empire" by Darkhorse Comics. I don't recall the series being that long at all. But, I liked it better than episode 7.
I would have liked to see George Lucas's ideas being told by a different person. I think the reason that Star Wars was such a hit was because Lucas had great ideas but was also surrounded by people who helped shape the story instead of yes men who did whatever he wanted.
Doc Holliday Agreed, but by the time we got to the TPM, Lucas could only surround himself with yes-men that looked at him as an infallible god of filmmaking. Pretty much, they blindly trusted every decision he made, regardless of how horrible it was

Alot of the parts people hate from the prequels was not Lucas' idea, it was actually some of the crew men ideas, Lucas was against alot of it, but had to say yes to some parts ;)
Nitro MJB I don't necessarily hate them. At least the previous films had originality and imagination. The characters are deep/complex they even show the light side having its negatives (Jedi counsel) but the dialogue was beyond atrocious and the comedic relief of Jar Jar didn't help.. Actually I liked pretty much everything about the post-episode 6 extended universe stuff BETTER than TFA....too fucking bad that all of that was thrown down the toilet when Disney bought the rights....
they never were considered canon by Lucas, ever. Just a parallel universe of what-ifs.
George Lucas should release his episode 7 as a graphic novel, I'd read it & compare. Disney regurgitated the plot of A New Hope tweaked it and made a movie "for the fans". The end result satisfied the nostalgic retro need that fans have (Rogue One also did this even better in my opinion) but ultimately I'm left hungry which is the inevitable result of too much style & not enough substance. More story and less explosions maybe?
The Devil's Dragon George Lucas would put Jar Jar, inconsistent cinematography, uncharismatic characters and lots of nonsense to sell toys and videogames.
Don't get too upset with him. he gave you 6 movies and chose family instead of Episode 7.
Inconsistent cinematography in a book ? lul
The Devil's Dragon: If George Lucas did release his Episode 7 graphic novelization, he'd have to release it for free, cuz he sold the rights to Disney. Either that, or he'd have to give back the 4 billion and fifty million dollars. ouch!
TFA and ANH only share basic plot points. Since they are both a hero's journey. This isn't as big a deal as Star Wars fans are making it out to be.
Man if only disney had realised sooner how much freaking money they could have made from this
Some of the ideas you described from his episode 7 sound way better than what we got
My feeling is even if he just wrote the story and others made the screenplay and directed them, and even if they ended up being average movies, at least these would've felt like true Star Wars. As it stands, these new movies feel like glorified fan films without Lucas' input.
"Glorified fan films" How do you feel about that with TLJ?

I’d love an 10, 11, and 12, with Rey and Finn having had a family and having had 10 or 20 years passed. Have the story be written by George Lucas and J.J., and have the movie be directed by JJ
I would like to see a Star Wars movie were Han Solo just sits in a resaurant and shoots any one that sits down next to him
yeah Han shot first and am so glad i got to see the original in all it's glory before the Lucas tinkering must have watched A New Hope with Empire and ROTJ over 40 odd time's now or more! just wished they had kept the cut scenes in ROTJ with Luke at the beginning with his green lightsaber in the cave and Darth calling out to him may have made up for the kiddie care bear Ewok's being in it 😯.
I'm Your Huckleberry Could've been interesting man. But regarding "Who shot first?" All this debate for so many years, while the answer is very obvious - no one shot FIRST; Han was the only person that SHOT! He greased Greedo before there was any chance of a shootout. And I don't care what retroactive BS Lucas says to the contrary: Han Solo was an outlaw smuggler space-pirate. When threatened he shot a bounty hunter without a second thought. That's what gave his character an ARC. He went from self-serving criminal to hero of the rebellion. All other suggestions are unnecessary fluff, IMHO.
I’m glad to see some of his ideas are still being used but I kinda wish we had a short of hybrid of what we got and his ideas
4:40 sure, "Luke's sister." That picture is straight out of an adult video store.
George Lucas once said: The story of Star Wars is about a child who is a slave, becomes the most powerful warrior in the galaxy, falls into disgrace and at the end of his life is redeemed. After that there is nothing more to tell.
Jar Jar Binks gritty reboot, or nothing!
i need a movie
Meesa nowsa a bad ass Annie!
Jar Jar Begins
Jar Jarhead
The Real Phantom Menace
They should’ve let him at least have a say on some things.
After seeing episode 8 I long for the involvement of George Lucas. Disney seems to have forgotten what made Luke Skywalker so great.
HAPPY_JCG What if i told you 30 years on a island alone might change you
you'd sound like a fanboy trying to rationalize bad writing.
besides... he went to the island AFTER he tried to kill Ben. So your point is not valid.
He didn't try to kill him tho
He stood over him while he slept with his lightsaber out, wanting to kill him. Potato, potahto
I like Episode III...honestly even more than Episode VII. And the last 3 Seasons of the clone wars are pretty good.
ow, intelligence, at last ! We have a human, with.. with a brain !!! congratulation !!!
I love Episode III. To me, it is even better than Episode IV. Yes, Episode II was terrible and Episode I was okay (though I still like it), but at the very least they were original and progress the story of Star Wars. Episode VII did nothing new and the story did not go anywhere. Instead of continuing the story that ended off on Episode VI (like the games and books did) we went back to Episode IV. Talk about playing it safe and being samey in an industry about being safe and samey. It does not stand out at all.
TyranusRex721 "we went back to Episode IV", congratulation ! that was the purpose, thanks to point that out ^^.
J. J. doesn't take risks. Disney REALLY needed someone like that to make the perfect Star Wars movie. Now with Rian Johnson he'll take some risks and give us something new, so it doesn't become just the same thing over and over again. To Reboot the franchise, in my option, we needed a film like "The Force Awakens" something that would work without question, to lay some ground so more films could experiment.
Really? The problem with that is Disney saw that people just want the same story again without anything new and it brougth them money. I'm afraid this is what they will think that they won't need to be creative at all just be lazy and money will still come. TAke the books for example: nothing really important happened in the new canon yet... not even the novels take any risk in their stories :S (okay I didn't read Bloodlines and Life debt yet).
Fair enough but I'd say Episode VIII and IX better be more original and unpredictable than VII, because story-wise it was a disappointment.
***** That's a good point. They played it safe for a great reason, it is just disappointing to have anticipated it so much to have it be almost nothing new. But now that episode 7 is out of the way Rian Johnson and Gareth Edwards will start expanding and creating so the future looks bright for the next couple years at least.
Like you said, J.J Abrams' more 'safe' approach for TFA had to be made before they could take any risks. Because the last thing anyone needed was another prequel quality Star Wars, which would have just burned worse since it would have included the OG Star Wars characters like Han and Leia. I'm glad TFA was very much a rehash, it made me feel like my young self watching Episode 4. It brought back the spirit of the original Star Wars to me, and it was great, i dont really care that it is not as creative as it could be. It made me feel GOOD
***** CGI is not bad. They did all they could with particle effects. BUT IT'S A SPACE MOVIE. Of course there was going to be a shit ton of CGI. But that's fine, as long as it's good. J. J.Abrams gave the team a whole year so it looks fantastic.
George Lucas episode 7, yes please, like he says people may not like his movies but at least he continually tried something new. And the prequels along with the original trilogy do flow together better than Disney's trilogy
He had great ideas but too many yes men around him to stop his bad ideas from going through
No, the prequels are shit. Being different for the hell of it isn't brilliant.
right 7 and 8 are shity rehashes of 4 and 5 like the continuity from 6 to 7 makes no fucking sense what's so ever
That part with Anakin's ghost and the water submerged death star sounds awesome. But it also lines very well up with star wars 9. The other parts of that story line up with rogue one, (Darth vader's castle), Solo (Quira, and han solo), and quira also lines up with star wars 7 and 8. There might be something here!
I would have loved a George Lucas 7. He created everything and without him the story wouldn't exist. Plus. I'm probably the only fan that loves every one of the movies. The man is a genius and one of my heroes.
jhensley1212 i liked them all
I loved them all too. The force awakens is my least favorite
He needed a writer
Lol so you would've wanted more whiny shitty dialogue about sand
Mason Mcleod oh shut the fuck up it was one line about sand yes I’d rather take that than another bullshit plot hole filled fan service soulless movie that feels like just another marvel action movie
I liked the prequels, they had amazing visuals and I liked the stories also! I saw the 1st one in 1977, so I'm an old timer! The 40th anniversary of Star Wars is this year, and it turns out George Lucas is a humanitarian to boot!
I remember that one version of the starwars.com website long ago had a top navigation section with all nine (9) episodes spread the width of the page. While there was not much in 6, 7, 8, and 9, there was some characters and brief plot outlines.
I had actually managed to forget about that second kiss "Thanks" for reminding me...
Lukas makes good stories, but shit scripts. He should have understood his capabilities, and not get salty for people shitting on the prequels.
people went overboard with the shitting so he has every right to be salty.
Lucas has great world crafting and rough outline capabilities, but his scripting and directing chops are his weakness. Episodes 1-3 had good plot points, but the flat dialogue, overused cgi, and lack of character development brought the hate. Any one of those stories with better treatment, more realistic dialogue, and emotional connection between characters would be better.
We can ignore character writing because oh lordy do we know he screwed that up, but George Lucas is a concept guy. He gets a concept in his head and makes it. Trouble is that he was trying to stretch a concept into three movies that could have been told in one. When my little sis was watching the "Star Wars" films before we saw Ep. 7 (and was debating on whether to watch all the prequels), I thought about how the movies could be condensed into the bare bones of Ep 1, the highlights and important information from Ep 2, and a little more than half of Ep. 3 to make a packed, interesting movie. And then we found "the Phantom Edit" where somebody already beat me to the idea. The prequels were much more enjoyable that way. If the dialogue could be less cringy, it could have been an amazing film-or two films if we wanted to do more world and character building that didn't feel entirely pointless or confusing. But three? You're just trying to keep it a trilogy thing. Numbers are not a reason to make movies. It's a reason to make money.
Snowflake Productions I like round numbers but yeah good point.
When you claim a MOVIE trilogy "shit on your childhood" you need to take a look in the mirror and get over yourself. They're lowly fans and it isn't their vision. it's Lucas' vision. That's it. claiming a media franchise ruined your childhood is a pathetic first world problem.
Ill say it, George Lucas' episode 7 would have been much better. RIP Princess
I doubt that very much. Ep7 and Rogue One clearly demonstrated that Disney knows what they are doing, while Ep1 to Ep3 demonstrated that George Lucas did not.
D4l4m4r Rogue 1 yes. Ep7 was just awful :(
+BluVynil I don't think you saw the same movie as everyone else... www.rottentomatoes.com/m/rogue_one_a_star_wars_story www.rottentomatoes.com/m/star_wars_episode_i_the_phantom_menace
Fuck RT
RC reuters? russia today? ripe teens? rotten tomatos?
I remembered the 9 part series quote from Lucas literally from the 80s, so it was weird to hear him back-track and say it was only meant to be 6 films.
And now with the release of The Rise of Skywalker, I can confidently say that the Sequel Trilogy offered barely anything new to Star Wars lore and to continue the story of the franchise, and instead retreaded old ground and insulted the Star Wars mythos.
Even if you don't like those movies, saying they didn't expand the lore or mythos is just factually inaccurate. You can say you didn't like how they did it, but they still did do it.
@@Phoenix-pb4sm I didn't say they didn't expand the lore or mythos. I said "barely". There are some new things such as crossguard lightsabers, Force projection, Force dyads. And obvious things like new alien/animal species, planets. But from a historic point of view of the conflict at the center of the Sequel Trilogy, it's a remixed version of the Rebellion vs the Empire (with 2 of 3 films featuring planet-destroying weapons, yet again). Star Wars fans deserved so much more than what we ended up getting.
I'd like to know what the plans were and the story line, personally.
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH THOSE PLANS?! THEY WERE BEAMED ABOARD THIS CHANNEL!
www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2015/05/star-wars-vanity-fair-the-force-awakens/392669/ idk what to make of it. Maybe it could have worked, but it is understood why Disney did not want to go that route.
Oh, I totally get the why behind it. And I loved TFA! Just curious though as to what Lucas' plans were.
Then you are a rube. J.J. Abrams is a hack - I don't know who he blackmailed in Hollywod to get a job, but he screwed up Star Wars and he screwed up Star Trek. There is NO LOGIC to TFA - 30 years after events in the Return of the Jedi and the supposed defeat of the Empire - we get a story that is almost a carbon copy of "A New Hope"?. from an artistic point of view, everyone involved in that piece of garbage should be forbidden from ever making another movie - but the whores in Hollywood loved it, because suckers like you spent a lot of money seeing this boring copy of a new hope multiple times. I knew what The force awakens was all about when I went to TOys R Us after seeing the movie - nothing but a 2 hour long commercial to sell overpriced toys. The movie was not exciting, not original, and simply bad and everyone at Disney should be horsewhipped. After the immense disappointment of this film, I refused to see it again, not for 2 dollars at the budget theater and not now for free on cable t.v. - If the sequel hints as being as bad as TFA - I will wait until it is on cable t.v. The only reason this movie made so much is the low intelligence level of the general public that exists today.
I know - nobody in Hollywood cares abou the fans or what we think - the only thing they care about is making money. But if they were smart and delivered a quality product, they would have made twice as much as what they made on this p.o.s.
I actually loved the prequels
me too!
Rakee Designs they were ok but shitty for star wars standards the writting was pretty bad though
You guys are hilarious. A bunch of comics. So funny. You guys are so funny.
Braiven -- I bet you trashed on the prequels before you decided to jump on the sequel hate bandwagon.
idiot
Merry Christmas, mate.
At 10:10, that looks so cool. That would be very interesting to see a standard Sci-Fi take on Star Wars!
Not everyone was happy with the Farce Awakens?? I thought I was alone... Jesus, I was so disappoint by that movie. The cinematography, the nostalgia, the retread, and the pissing on Lucas' vision... Right in the midichlorians.
Don't you mean the Force Awakens? Oh wait I see what you've done there, you've switched a word from the title with a different word to express your dislike of the movie how clever and original.
I didn't say I disliked the movie; I only said I was disappoint.
It's the latest George Lucas style remastering where they change out all the shots, and edit in tonnes of CGI & sound effects. Damn, I almost could sell myself on that idea.
Well I hated it. It felt so blend and useless. I haven't got attached to any of the characters except Solo and Chewy, but that's just because of nostalgia. Plus, the whole story is a New Hope puked back in your face with nothing new added to the mix. I have to be honest, I think the prequels are all better than the Force awakens. Episode 1 had the podrace and the Darth Maul fight, episode 2 was meh but still less blend than Force awakens and Episode 3 is a good movie in my opinion.
'Derivative' is more like it! Lucas' work always took risks, and sometimes reaped the rewards; the new movies have 0 risk, and 0 reward. They're humdrum everyday cinema that's most memorable trait is being related to the Star Wars franchise.
The force awakens pretty much killed Star Wars. The villains blow, and the heros are generally "meh". Oh and Han Solo died like a chump. Tfa = pos.
Let me add Abrams is a hack and always has been. His fans are nitwits.
Tell me more about your qualifications as a storyteller
+Cat Vomit lmao!!!!
+Cat Vomit that and yet another death star and the same way to blow it up was that preditable i nearly fell asleep.
If the prequels did´t kill Star Wars. Force awakens REALLY did´t kill Star Wars. The right opposite. It revived Star Wars. Made it come back stronger then you could imagine. Your opinion may stand. But the fact remains.
'We wanna make something for the fans', Well they FUCKED that up.
The Great Red Dragon 87 Disney has no fucking idea on what real Star Wars fans want. A greedy corporate company should never make movies.
I know dang. They weren't making it for this fan. Fun movie but almost a parody of the actual well thought out and mused Star Wars. Stuff just happens without much justification or impact
Sam Herrington it’s just movies based off of nostalgia. The new movies are stuck in the past, it doesn’t wanna cover any new ground.
4:48 WHOAAAAA HOLD UP, The Emperor would've returned in the *original* Episode IX??
I think what he's saying is that the Emperor wouldn't have even been *introduced* until Ep. 9. Darth Vader would have been the villain of Episode 6. Or so I think.
Han's dead, but screw Chewie...I'll just ignore him & hug the girl he just met a few days ago.
Mike C screw u chewie is awesome
rei king didn't get the sarcasm. Mike was referring to Leia's response in TFA, hugging Rey while ignoring Chewie. The reason she did it, though, is because Han's not dead, and she and Chewie both know it. They helped him fake his death to deceive Snoke.
K Lauer He is, harrison won't play as han again
Jar Jar Binks - Harrison said in the 1980s that he wouldn't play Han again, but along came Episode VII 30 years later and here he is playing Han again. Yeah, he'll be back, even if it's just for a quick fly-off-into-the-sunset scene with Leia at the end of Episode IX.
J J Abrams is on record as saying he set up that shot wrong, Chewie was meant to hug Leia originally. He said it's on him and his bad direction on that day, he fucked up. He genuinely said, "I fucked up."
I wish Lucas would have kept control as creative godfather even if he didn't want to do the busy work. Lucas would have given us authentic Star Wars, not this Mickey Mouse's Club version. Force Awakens wasn't terrible but it wasn't Star Wars.
+Tin Man agree with you it felt like a tribute band covering your favourite band and song and am only going to watch part 8 if it does not try to copy plot points from the best of the lot Empire Strikes Back but have a feeling Disney will play it safe again 😕
I'm Your Huckleberry well thankfully rogue one looks good so hoping the expanded universe movies will be good, though such a cash grab for a young han solo movie, after killing him in your first new movie.
Tin Man i like to say that TFA was more like the general idea of a Star Wars movie
Oh my god, they are using George Lucas’s drafts to reshoot 9. That’s what we saw in the trailers
MELONHEAD No respect for the man
Still won't save it.. Episode 9? There's only 6 movies..
Nope not even close.
Wow after seeing all the sequels they actually used a lot of his ideas. I do wish they the sequels were less fan service and more storytelling And no one should be treated like that. Lucas gave us this wonderful world to live in. Those “fans” are toxic and not real fans at all
