In this video, I show you how to use the fingerprint scanner for a door lock using arduino uno.
For making fingerprint door lock you need Arduino Uno, Adafruit fingerprint sensor and servo motor.
You can easily lock and unlock your door using this device.
You can insert up to 127 Fingerprint Id in this sensor to lock and unlock.
This is the best Arduino project for all students.

  • The battery is secondary power [backup] it has to be connected to a primary source of power : A power supply , 120 V with a transformer. .

It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).

  • Using a push pull solenoid is better than a motor. I want to open the door faster. Solenoid is not so complicated to program on arduino.

  • @Creativity Buzz. Really cool idea. I'd like to suggest on going for a pneumatic actuator servo(for linear motion) than an rotational one. If you use the pneumatic actuator servo you can skip the use of the lengthy screw. If possible give a try on that.

  • I am rather interested in what the arduino is built, how it works, how the fingerprint sensor works, etc. This lock can be built by anyone provided he is given all components and the materials. For assembling it, youtube videos like this one is more than enough.

    • You can probably find the library on Github somewhere but usually when you buy the fingerprint sensor it comes with a disk or instructions to tell you where to get the library. In this case it seems like it’s Adafruit fingerprint sensor :)

    • 1. Using a battery is a good way to get locked out unless you use it as a backup for a power outage, so you don't. You use an outlet. 2. You program a button to re-lock it from the inside. The video was mostly an example for the locking mechanism.

  • A simple solution would be that, you can change battery from outside the home. Some modifications with the designs are to be done. So while leaving you can also take the battery with you and if it gets discharged you can buy a new one.

  • Morning, I have suggestion for your next project. How about open the door with remote wireless just like a bell? I have a bell with no cable. Can it be work? Just think to try get easier when you got home not to find a "key"

    • You can buy Arduino mkr1000. You can have it connected to the internet and go cloud with it. The rang is anywhere around the world if you have the cloud server with it

    • It's was only built for experiment. You can make real heavy commercial lock, but it will be difficult.

    • It is practical, just u need a more powerful servo, with all the electronics hidden under a good cage and the battery source from the ac in Ur home which is been converted by ac to dc transformer and 12v to 5v transformer
