On an August evening in Seoul, South Korea, a newly formed production crew was setting up cameras and microphones as the eight-member session band warmed up and rehearsed. Most of the musicians had flown in from the U.S. just for this performance; a few were already based in Seoul. The special occasion was one of the first concerts for Tiny Desk Korea, a brand new series based halfway around the world from NPR's offices in Washington, D.C. It was an exciting moment for everyone in the room as we awaited the arrival of Kim Tae-hyung, 김태형, who most know as V from BTS.
He was about to release a new album, Layover, and he'd never performed the songs live before. The three sultry cuts in this set are sure to make ARMY go crazy. "Love Me Again" starts the set with a catchy hook and steamy verses sung in Korean; you don't have to understand the language to feel the regret and loss. He keeps the romantic mood going with an uptempo R&B vibe on "Slow Dancing." Before the last tune, "For Us," V says in Korean, "These songs evoke a sense of fleeting tranquility, as if they effortlessly pass by and offer a soothing pause."
This video is part of the newly launched international version of Tiny Desk, a joint venture between NPR and LG U+, a Korean telecommunications and media company. All concerts - including the first few episodes with the Kim Chang Wan Band, Sunwoo Jung-A and the Yun Seok Cheol - are available on the Tiny Desk Korea KZhead channel, which will unveil a new video every Thursday.

He is Kim Taehyung from a South Korean boy band named BTS. He is the baritone of the group and has an extensive vocal range. Please give his latest solo album Layover a listen. It consists of R&B and jazzy types of songs. Please also listen to his other songs, Singularity, Stigma, Sweet Night, Winter Bear, and Snow Flower. His vocals are amazing!

Most kpop is not something I listen to, but I absolutely love BTS - Taehyung in particular. His type of music is what resonates with me and I believe he is a true artist that is breaking down walls for what is considered "Korean music" and paving the way. This performance is my favourite. Can't say enough about his vocals, background singers, and the band. So well done!

Thank you for this soulful music! This is coming from a old school gal who is a huge lover of RnB and grew up in it for the last 6 decades. This is my first time hearing K-Pop and this young man NAILED IT! So smooth, soulful, groovy are the musician and background as well as V with his smooth soulful singing. It look like they had a great time on stage. Adding V’s EP to my playlist. Thank you for sharing this amazing talent!
This isn't Kpop this is K R&B V is from the group BTS and I can't even call them a Kpop group because they don't sound anything like the other ones. They are their own genre honestly but back to V or Taehyung he is our little jazz loving trumpet and saxophone playing Mr. You sound for sure check out his other songs and the group they have something for everyone.

As a person who has been in love with rnb since a child, these songs and this performance in particular, speaks so much to me. An outstanding band and perfectly tempered vocals by Taehyung makes this one of the most memorable tiny desks. Thank you for an incredible album Taehyung, I will listen to it forever, like all the rnb classics I keep in rotation.
As an Asian and don't know very well about R&B, I love this style of music though. I always love soulful American Black singers like Whitney Housten, Beyonce and Earth Wind & Fire. So I naturally fell in love with Taehyung's voice. Taehyung's live performance, the backup vocals, the musical instruments, the saxophone complement one another so beautifully! This live performance is mind blowing!

Myself, I’m an Asian that grew up in Northern California where rnb and hip hop were the backbone of the culture there. This has been my favorite of all of the solo projects members dropped before enlisting. I knew Tae would deliver something that touched my heart and played me like an instrument. Whenever I listen to the album, I get stuck on "For Us", but the whole record fits so well together. It's such a vibe. 💜

I have so much respect for Taehyung. Instead of chasing the hype, he chose to make music he identifies with the most for his debut. His debut, the most important release of a singers career. He choose the genre he likes, knowing it isn’t a preferred genre by kpoppies. And he chose to showcase his beautiful voice and what it’s capable off without producers abusing it with autotune. And I must say he killed it. There is no skip on Layover. I have been listening tot it nonstop since the release and I still can’t get enough. Im so proud of you Taehyung. Layover has a special place in my heart. Congratulations on your successful debut Taehyung. Im so sad Layover promotion era is almost over. But thank God we have so much content. Thank you so much for working so hard. I will be binge watching everything time and time again. Tiny desk is my favorite though!

Since this happened, i started to watch a lot of tiny desk performance and i must say, this is one of the best. The band is super talented and the vocals were stable through out. Tae's voice was super impressive and very emotional especially in For Us. I love love love this and i hope to see them again.

OK, this performance was excellence ALL AROUND! Everything about it was wonderful. V's voice is stunning. He also truly let his band and backgound singers shine. They all seemed like they were friends and in sync with each other. And the pose at the end was so freaking cute!!! 😍

This was probably the most laid back and yet entertaining Tiny Desk I've ever watched. V does such a great job of making things fun but not putting a ton of pressure on people.
This is perfection. You dont hear or see this in the kpop idol scene and he executed this genre well. Just perfection. The album is short but a 10/10. His voice is like so beautiful and these songs sound way better live with a band. Cant wait for his next release. Shoutout to the band as well. Impeccable.

Every time i come back it makes me more emotional. His voice is so healing. The whole album is so healing.
Taehyung's live vocals is out of this world. His rendition of For Us makes me almost teared up, Love Me Again showcases his wide vocal range and Slow Dancing showcases his smooth honey vocals. However, we request a much longer version coz we don't get enough of such a breathtaking performance.
This is what it looks and sounds like when you gather talented musicians in one room who all have a great respect for timeless music. Beyond proud of Taehyung and in pure bliss watching this performance

The band introduction was so epic
NME gave layover 4/5 stars and raved that it was “suave sophistication with a twist” which describes also Taehyung himself perfectly. AP news also gave the album an outstanding review. Taehyung followed his heart and not trends and charts and it’s yielding results that stand the test of time. Amazing amazing album and performance.

I don't even have the words to express how proud I am of Taehyung. This is an awesome performance, showcasing all his talents and interest in this genre. How well thought out all songs are in the album! Considering all the way he came since he joined BTS, this makes me proud and happy as if I am his best friend, his biggest supporter, or even his older sister. This is the BTS member who was the secret 'visual' card, yet not given many solos or even meaningful vocals at the beginning. Yet, he persevered, trained, learned, thrived, and here we are. He found his 'soulful' sound, as suggested by the vocal trainer in American Hustle Life. I am so so so happy for him but also for all of us who have been enjoying this journey along with him. Thanks for all the work and keep being awesome!

Layover is such a great album. The vibes of it. You can hear he really loves jazz music in some of the tracks. What I feel mostly is that this album is rich in instruments when it comes to its sound/melodies
