Tbh I thought he was bad in those last few fights but the more I think about it the more I feel that yes he needs to be motivated. He had close fights with dc and Gustafson but the 2nd time he fought them he beat them within 2-3 rounds cos he was motivated. Even the Dominic Reyes fight, he knew he was in trouble and last two rounds walked him down. His 1st fight at HW was something new, something dangerous, so he went in a did the job . A motivated jones is almost probably very hard to beat

I don't think Jones needs to clear the heavyweight division in order to cement him as the GOAT. He is clearly the GOAT. He has been active for so long and has beaten champions after champions. If Jones retire right now, he will be considered the GOAT. The thing about this sports is, the longer you're active, higher the chance of you losing. One split second mistake and your lights can turn off and you'll be lying down flat on the canvas. The fact that Jones has been active for such a long time and have only fought the top guys is just mind blowing.

I think people forget that Ngannou fought Gane with a torn MCL and ACL. He knocked out 4 world level fighters (Dos Santos, Cain, Jarzinho and Blaydes) in a combined total of 2 mins, and then the heavyweight GOAT Stipe in 2 rounds. That's unheard of. I get people favouring Jones in that fight, but it certainly isn't a foregone conclusion.

The minute I read that in an interview Gane said he didn't train any wrestling outside of fight camp I knew this Jon's win was more or less cemented in stone.
I think someone like Curtis Blaydes is someone who poses a threat based on his size and wrestling ability, that being said though. Jon's IQ is just supreme when it comes to MMA. Him and GSP are up there.
Gane always plays on the outside, that's his game. If this was a standup fight I think he would've eeked out a decision, but this is MMA and heavyweights can't grapple.

I do agree with you though, he does need a fight that will test him as the heavy weight division is not really deep. I don't see Jon fighting much longer and I don't blame him. He is at the point in his career where he only wants big names and their aren't many at heavyweight. I give him 2 more fights. Tom Aspinal isn't a bad shout after some more fights under his belt, that injury knocked him back but he was looking exciting, lightning fast and multidimensional in his ability. We are yet to see the best out of him but has the injury stalled all progress? No idea.

I still put GSP as the GOAT of MMA. Cleared out the welterweight division beating the Lightweight champion (BJ Penn) in one of the earliest super fights in the UFC. Avenged his only two losses to Matt Serra and Matt Hughes. Then after four years away from the Octagon came back and took the Middleweight title from Bisping, all while not popping hot for PEDs. Having said that though if Jon Jones does go on to have a run at heavyweight I think Jones surpasses GSP.

When a fighter makes it look easy, he wasn't tested, when a fighter gets tested or in a war he is getting old or the competition is starting to pass him by. Jone is going to have that Mayweather complex where he will make the legends look like rookies compared to himself. His IQ and ability are on another level and I don't see him ever truly being tested maybe pushed like in the past but no one will tested jones
Just because you have a war does not mean your too old or competition is too hard as we know MMA math doesn’t add up and if your still in your 20s there will definitely be a lot of room to improve and use your experience to work on the holes in your game

Honestly. Aside from a potential knock out if he makes a mistake against blades. I don't think anyone in the HW division right now stands a real chance against Jones. Francis is the only other one that could beat him but I don't see the fight happening. Even blades with his wrestling background I don't think matters. His best chance is his power imo. I honestly think the only way for anyone at HW to beat Jones is to catch him one really good time and flatline him. If they can't knock him out I don't think they can win. Francis on the other hand is so strong he might can win by decision but that's a big might. I still think his best chance is flat line him
If Jones can beat Stipe, that should finalize things. Ciryl looks like he'd be a better boxer/kickboxer than MMA fighter. Jones needs to fight one fully formed heavyweight with credentials. Stipe is a great grappler and striker. Taking him would cement Jones at heavyweight.
