  • Great video, will help heaps. I have the BMW manual and another 5HP18 overhaul manual but none of them have the valve block layout diagrams you have. I have searched the web for the pdf, do you have a link at all?

    • Hello tvarish! All documents and schematics were obtained from google. Just keep searching. You will find extensive PDFs on this. The parts where ordered from ZF itself. Best way to go, is order 15 of each orifice (they are really cheap) so whatever color / diameter orifice you have, you always have enough to replace them. Dont forget to order the little screen and 2 springs + tops. Other than that, you just need a gasket and a new selector valve (improved design, stronger plastic). Don't forget a new filter, oil and pan gasket. Use this PDF for part numbers: www.zf.com/global/media/zf_media/document/int_print_catalogs_documents/usa_4/5HP18.pdf In Poland, midparts sells auto trans parts. They will know more.

  • I have the same transmission but a code came up for the speed sensors in the transmission after rebuilding. How do you test the speed sensors for this transmission.

    @deshanablackman9878@deshanablackman98784 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Deshana! These sensors should measure 250 Ohm resistance if I am correct. There are 2 identical sensors. The speed sensor error may also indicate a wire break or an actual speed error in the transmission after shifting. Also keep in mind that 1 sensor is directly placed on the valve body while the 2nd sensor is placed with little spacers so it rests a bit higher on the valve body. If those spacers aren't in place, the speed sensor may measure faulty.

  • Hello. I have an E34 with a 5HP18, which recently lost all drivetrain power. I stopped driving for a bit and when I put it in D nothing happened, except for the engine revving, but with no movement. The same goes for all of the other gears. R, 4,3, and so on. The wheels on the other hand lock, when the trans is in P, and move freely in N. Worth mentioning, is that before all of this happened the gear selector was really hard to engage. It was resisting a lot and struggled to go into gear. I checked the oil level in the trans today and the wire that goes from the gear selector to the trans and they were both fine. The car has also been sitting for about 2 years outside without being moved. What do you think is the problem?

    • Broken selector valve (easy fix), stuck valves in valve body block (intermediate, requires dismantling of block and cleaning) or major transmission damage of any source. I'd go on the broken selector valve. Check video at 3:49, it's the black thing sticking out to the left.

    • Hey, same problem here, that metal where the wire from selector is, fall of that plastic selector valve. I put it in the place, started to working again, then same problem again, first hard change with selector then no reaction, as previous. I need to change that part, or i need adjust it somehow? Thanks for help and sorry for bad english :(

    • @@jebohim If you have any problem with that selector shaft, change the complete selector shaft (not expensive). Reason for this is that this is a KNOWN part to fail. It is IMPOSSIBLE for a GOOD selector shaft to fall out of the metal connecting rod. If the metal connecting rod was displaced, the selectorshaft IS BROKEN and can freely travel. When you take out that shaft you will see that it is broken.

    • No, not if the new valve body has the identical part number. It would not hurt to have the adaption reset though.
