The Dead Space Remake comes to us sandwiched between Callisto Protocol, a game so bad I think it made this game easier to appreciate, and the upcoming Resident Evil 4 Remake, which will likely make myself and others completely forget about it. Regardless this is the here and now and Dead Space 2023 is a pretty solid game, still has sins to count though.

  • Fun fact did you know you technically don't kill a necromorph. In the books or wiki it's confirmed that the body is still alive you just basically stopped it from moving to kill you

    • So they took inspiration from the black knight of the Monty Python film to create necromorphs?

      @jilly9437@jilly9437 Жыл бұрын
  • The necromorphs are being directed by a hive mind, and when you chop off enough limbs that it isn't viable as a mobile weapon, it basically shuts it off as it isn't useful anymore and that is when it is considered 'dead' again. I like to think the necromorphs that attacked the singularity core did so under direction from the hive mind, versus the standard autopilot they have to just hunt down humans. Dr. Mercer didn't plant the hologram specifically for Isaac, he did it to lure in literally anyone that might have trusted her as the chief medical officer that still remains alive, as his own reputation is somewhat extreme. He just wants more people to experiment on. He doesn't fear Isaac, and actually reacts very impartially because he largely considers his masterpiece as unkillable and truly divine. There are the exact same number of times you get dragged in the game by tentacles as in the first game, and in the same chapters, with one exception, the final one after the final encounter with the Hunter. The Leviathan was actually a necromorph that IMPACTED the ship by launching itself from the colony, so the majority of the mass is not from the ship. The logs in the game confirm this, when they tell you of a mass hitting food storage and decompressing it and then starting to consume everyone. I imagine Food Storage is meant to airlock directly with larger supply shuttles to and from colonies for easy unloading of large cargos. Oh and the marker confusing humans is not the exact same thing as a directed intelligence. It just corrupts what they see and experience, it doesn't actually control or direct them. Other games of the series did a better job show-casing this, particularly the one on rails, Dead Space Extraction, which covered the events on the colony leading up to this game.

    • The launch tube makes so much possible sense it’s scary . The marker may have led to accidental or intentional destruction of it from its manipulation of both the crew or necromorphs . The most likely is that Dallas would have done it to prevent this crude from getting to his family . He tried to cut off his own limbs to prevent himself from hurting others once dead . He would definitely sabotage something that could cause their death . The last option is church members would ruin it so people like Kendra don’t take the marker away from mankind.

  • For Sin 62, the troops aboard the _Valor_ or at least the command staff were very much aware of what they were going up against. Both the Original and the Remake had a datapad you can find with orders explicitly confirming the presence of the Marker and hinting at the possibility of necromorphs. They were originally sent with the intention of giving Kendra and the Marker a lift while destroying the Ishimura once the mission was done.

I mean, if the military crew- one made by professional soldiers, armed with military grade equipment and not mining tools- knew all along they might encounter Necromorphs, how the hell did they got wipe out so easily by a dime-a-dozen slasher that Isaac has curb-stomped in droves on his own?

    • @@canale39youification Yeah. While no one had at least dealt with a necromorph outbreak in almost two centuries in-universe, you'd think that EarthGov troops would be afforded classified docs on how to deal with the necromorphs properly with what little data was still available.

      @clearlywrong6520@clearlywrong6520 Жыл бұрын
    • @@canale39youification Because Isaac's been told what to do and his tools can easily dismember. Trained soldiers would aim for the center of mass of their target, which wouldn't do much to a Necromorph. Assuming they were equipped with Pulse Rifles, without aiming for the limbs, the soldiers would have wasted their shots and empitied their clips quickly (Pulse rifles guzzle ammo). This is also assuming none of them panicked upon meeting the thing. It was a major point in the OG trilogy that Isaac's tools were better suited to take out Necromorphs than military weapons. Heck in the Downfall movie, this was also shown when the security team first encountered the Necromorphs and emptied multiple clips into a singular target and didn't do much until they riddled it with so many bullets it was ripped to pieces.

But they’re talking as is if that’s how they communicate to each other in person. If Cross knows Jacob well, she’d picked up on different speech patterns coming whom she believes in Jacob and Issac from Nicole. You’ll look great when you finish under time… Plus, there’s a whole world of difference between an emergency fix to keep something running for the immediate future and restoring a system to full functionality where further repairs won’t be necessary for a long time. The two day estimate probably included checking every comm system component and tracking down the (then unknown) cause of the failure and eradicating the reason for the failure. In the game, Isaac is just repairing it to the “it’ll work fine for long enough” standard, not taking the system back to “like new.”

  • I'm probably remembering wrong but the Marker wants to be returned to the planet because "the makers need to be absorbed" to start Convergence but due to its creator being long dead and gone it can't start Convergence so I guess the next best thing is to just self destruct and imprint the blueprints in Isaac's brain so he can become the next Marker's creator and start Convergence in Dead Space 2.

The last video with Nicole is different and implies she asked the Marker to stop the convergence event and the Marker listened to her. It's trying to go back to fulfill the request. Why? IDK. The lore explains that Isaac did not kill the necromorphs, he just disabled them temporarily for their altered flesh to be reconfigured to the hive mind for a convergence event. Its the reason why there is Corruption, tentacles, and the leviathan all around the Ishimura, as well as the hive mind in Aegis VII. Not only that, but each RIG have their own different interfaces in order to check either their own vitals or someone else's by pulling up their RIG ID numbers. 5:13 as a reminder that this remake is following the design and blueprints of the original Dead Space, and the purpose of the quarantine lockdown is to trap the player in a fight scenario since it's far easier to escape certain encounters and to save up on supplies by simply running away. It wouldn't be much of a survival horror if you can escape certain encounters. Hell, you can speedrun Dead Space by skipping encounters, but the quarantine lockdowns will still force Isaac to fight. 8:02 the purpose of the barricade is to keep the monsters isolated. Even without the context of Extraction, there is a massive hole on the wall where those tentacle grabbers pop out to take away victims and kill them. That was in the original, and Extraction revealed why. 8:20 inside the RIG refitter, there is an alignment table for the user to properly snug themselves inside in order to be safely fitted with a suit. However an audio log revealed that Brant Harris tossed someone inside the suit refitter improperly, thus resulting in the victim being torn and shredded in its gears. 9:44 this one i will sin, but for a different reason. How is there still one escape pod left, even though the audio logs, Extraction, and even Downfall established that Mercer jettisoned ALL the escape pods in order to strand the crew aboard the Ishimura and convert everyone into necromorphs? 10:48/11:19 in the side mission Premeditated Malpractice, it is revealed that Dr. Mercer was working on a prototype Stasis Module capable to freezing someone in place for extended periods, which explains why he sent Harris to bring more Osmium. However considering how powerful and supercharged his stasis gun is, it's reasonable to assume that he has to recharge it before it can fire again. 18:04 you still have to factor in radiation leakage in the event the missile is ruptured. So even if the warhead is disarmed, the radioactive materials inside the warhead can still spill over and anyone not in a radiation suit will be exposed to the hazardous material and die. Not to mention that those fires caused by the crash would in fact serve as the components necessary to cause the chain reaction for a detonation. 18:19 ALL CEC personnel have their names registered with RIG ID numbers for verification purposes. Being a CEC engineer, Isaac Clarke's name is displayed since he's a registered employee. Dr. Terrance Kyne was able to pull up Isaac's RIG number to give him a call. As for introductions, it's mearly a professional courtesy that everyone practices, even during times of crisis as a means to show good faith and zero hostile intentions. 19:58 since i actually tried using the hydrazine flamethrower against the hunter, it didn't burn the Hunter enough because its torso was still intact. The shuttle's engines were strong and hot enough to completely melt the Hunter down to its last molecule. So no. 22:54 Kendra Daniels has already explicited stated that her orders from EarthGov were to retrieve the marker as well as disposing of any and all potential threats and witnesses that could stop her. She has already revealed this back in Chapter 11, please pay attention.

  • To be fair, the marker on Aegis 7 was broken The final part of the convergence event involves the builder of the marker being assimilated, presumably to become the central identity of the brethren moon. However, this marker is 200 years old, and built by Human hands And before you bring up the moon in DS3, it had likely already assimilated its creator. It was just frozen, still alive and conscious as it was using the markers to broadcast a compulsion to "Make us whole", to free it and allow it to continue forming Nicole managed to communicate with the marker, at which point it agreed to be returned to Aegis 7, where a pedestal was built to amplify ts signal. The Marker has a Dead Space around it that repels the necromorphs, or weakens them, so as to protect itself. The dead space field is also amplified by the pedestal, silencing the infestation But more importantly, implanting the construction codes and compulsions in anyone capable of comprehending them, like - say - an engineer who's been fighting the necromorphs for hours

  • You know, the more I think about it I see an underlying sin in the game from a narrative standpoint. The original Dead Space and its corresponding lore tie ins (movies and prequel games) constantly showed one thing: The Marker wanted to stay on the pedestal and not to be found. It even tries to kill people who threaten to take it off a collapsing Aegis VII after the events of the Ishimura. Yet this flies in the face of what happens in the two main sequel titles where the Marker wants to bring about a Brethren Moon. In the original game it could be forgiven seeing that they never thought it would get so successful or for EA to suck Visceral’s soul out for sequels. But the remake now has the unwelcome task of trying to bridge the plot points of the sequel titles to the original game. Ultimately they try hard, but it doesn’t stick the landing. The Marker is actively trying to get the hell away from humanity like it did in the first game, even going against the cult that actually wants it to succeed in it’s apocalyptic task. Referencing Convergence a few times doesn’t fix the overlying plot hole. On a more positive note: I absolutely love the changes made to Mercer in the remake. In the original game he just seemed like some raving lunatic waiting for the first opportunity to go insane. He is still batsh*t insane in this game, but I like how they flesh him out a bit more. He may not be a smart villain, but at least he can act like it more now!

  • My headcanon, since they don’t take this route, has always been that Isaac was in denial and the Marker further screwed up his memory and logic. Isn’t it canon that the Marker feeds on grief? If not, it certainly makes one more susceptible. You can’t be manipulated if you have nothing to gain, therefore it finds ways of giving false promises for something you may be lacking, or worse, have lost. Since they never establish that Isaac always knew, the sin still exists. That’s just the way I look at it to make sense of that plot twist/hole. Still, it almost seems like that became their intentions, the way Isaac flinches when Kendra approaches, as if he was almost caught watching porn in computer class. Edit: lol, I should have finished that part of the video. He addresses that possibility. Anyway, my point still stands that it’s likely (although never directly stated) that Isaac always knew and the Marker fed on that grief as it tends to.

  • 6:30 ..Yeah, that's the idea behind necromorphs, they're not living things that can be killed or headshotted, they're reanimated dead tissue, like clay they come in many shapes, forms and flavours, standard slashers with their bones enlarged rearranged into bone-swords, the gross wet sticky floor, walls, ceilings and corridors that slows you down and has mines and tentacles in it and so on etc, the longer they are in the radius and signal of a Marker any dead tissue gets to be recycled into horrors beyond our comprehension. In universe you can only dismember and stun the necros for a time until they heal/regenerate the lost limbs from dead tissue and get up to continue to come after you again exactly like the regenerator and hunter in the game later, but in game dismembering the necros just leaves them stunned on the ground like they just died again fr fr, but that's just gameplay reasons, tho I'd have liked the idea of biblically accurate necromorphs as the hardest/unique special difficulty of the game. 19:24 Sooo-.... if even a single necromorph escaping will cause the literal death of humanity.... what about that necromorph Hammond just launched into space using the only remaining escape pod? .... if everything gets destroyed that single necromorph according to him will cause the death of everyone on earth or whoever finds and picks that escape pod up thinking it's some poor survivor just drifting in space and bringing it aboard and opening it, not knowing it has a necromorph trapped inside and then that single necromorph would start killing and making another ship get infested with necros :smollconcern:

If Kendra is relaying information to Earthgov and the Valor, they'd know how to kill a necromorph. Even without that Intel, it's a safe bet that the military would easily shoot it down before it could do anything. Reanimated human bodies would be terrible hosts, we see how easy it is shoot limbs off of them, and simple gunfire would be enough to kill them. Also, pulse rifles can fire explosives. Once the enemy is de-limbed and no longer useful, the Hicemind severs the connection. I do like the idea of body parts still moving, though... Daniels is on a secret mission and is sewing discontent to be less suspicious, and making Hammond seem like the bad guy to draw attention away from herself. Hammond can only give out a clearence of equal or lesser value to his own. Daniels has to hack some shit for the level 2, and the level 3 comes from a deck supervisor's corspe. Anyone, with the clearance and/ or the know-how for closing and rerouting air is probably dead or a shitty Unitologist. In the lore of the OG game, the Valor was minimally manned and was also carrying bodies, which reanimated when coming within range of the Marker. Mercer was using an experimental stasis module, which has a longer duration and other effects. Cross was wearing a literal gasmask while Isaac is just wearing an engineer suit. Hammond didn't outright kill Chen because the Marker's influence wasn't allowing him to think straight. Those little crawling things from the pregnant enemies could fit through the laugh tubes. Thruster engines are much hotter and spewing enough fire to engulf and disintegrate the Hunter without allowing time to regenerate.

  • Okay I understand this is just supposed to be a fun video, but come on man it doesn’t even seem like you paid attention while you were playing the game. Most of those are explained in game, and almost everything they changed was a blatant improvement. As far as the horror and not building up anticipation, I think you’re right. That was a you problem. This game takes its time to leave you on edge the whole time you’re playing it. There wasn’t a lot of time where I wasn’t walking around with my gun raised.

  • Counter sin. The ship may auto cut sensitive information from messages being sent out. I mean thats what the navy does with letters sent home, but this is the future and i could see that process being automated by either a simple algorythm or some type of focused AI

    • @@travis51killer01 Yeah, that's why some Issac dialogs are altered and even the Ship ambiences change and become more creepy in the NG+, cos you're playing as the "evil/crazy" Issac, affected by the Marker...like Ash from the Evil Dead😁👍

  • I think the slasher got into the vents and went into the flight control so the ship would crash and that is what led to their demise since the Hive mind or marker is intelligent it could have figured out about how human technology worked from the infected human memories.

  • About stopping the necromorphs they arent controlled by their brain anymore, more so its the reanimation and control of the marker the brain isnt really neccessary anymore. Now there are some who actually do keep brain function like the Weezer and wall guardian(the one attached to the wall in flesh) since its theorized that they keep function due to resistance of the marker

  • In addition to the sin about the store installing a new suit, how about the helmets? You could explain the suit as armor ribbing being added on, but the visors vary from helmet to helmet in a way that isn’t strictly new layers being added, but layers being completely reconfigures. In 2 and 3, the helmet folds into the suit, so you can assume the rig is swapped out, but here the helmet slips on like a Cosplay helmet. Therefore, is the store pulling the helmet off and putting a new one on? Ouch. That can’t be good for the neck. Secondly, is the light that moves its way down supposed to be the flash of welding guns? If so, I would hope Isaac’s helmet is swapped out immediately before it starts blasting him with sparks and giving him a nice tan and welding scars all over his face. Another issue with the store installing a new suit is how does it know the size and shape of your head and face to avoid pressing a piece too hard or making the helmet too tight? Not to mention it is much too fast at adding more armor and swapping out the helmet. Perhaps we are getting a fast forward version.
