The fact that Hamster did that massive climb in an RR with street tires shows off Land Rover's offroad prowess. "We're so confident our vehicles are perfect for offroading, pop the tires off your wife's Toyota Camry and onto your Range Rover, and you can still climb a near-vertical hill with it."

Old comment, but... Did you notice the camera was tilted? The hill wasn't that steep. It was steep, yes, but not as much as we were led to believe. Also, Top Gear was a great entertainment show, but maybe not the most scientific or objective. If they wanted a Range Rover go up a steep hill on the show, they made it go up that hill no matter what it took. It's scripted entertainment after all.
Yep people don’t realise that the most important thing for off-roading is the tyres, and the fact that this can do it normal tyres is impressive
All that off-roading capability, and all that handling....and you just know most of them will be bought as urban fashion accessories by people who will never utilise either. Shame.

the same can be said about pretty much ANY high end cars, except maybe 911 GT3, whose owners actually take them to the track

Exactly, all luxury SUVs are a waste of money
that tree stump, probably did like 5 grand worth of damage, no ones going to spend so much money on a car to take it properly offroad. A light saunter across a grassy paddock or driving on the beach doesnt count as real offroading either.
That was absolutely amazing. I was astounded by it's performance in both the terrain and the circuit. Richard Hammond's reaction to the Stig's lap..... hahahah. Whoever he is, he's bloody fearless.

Its off-road ability on normal road tyres is impressive enough, but for it to also be so luxurious *and* quick on-road is just incredible.

@@CV-ct7vpwe've been lucky, hard off road use on all four of ours, including cross country road trips 24hr out 24hrs back, and all sorts of other trips and only one had a significant issue.

MenachemSchmuel lol yes he was an idiot but lol that’s why people watched top gear. It was the perfect mix of humor and knowledge and he was a key part of both the humor and knowledge. How many people watch top gear now ? Not many. Top gear and Jeremy Clarkson were sort of the perfect marriage. He and the other two were the perfect blend for the top gear platform. The current top gear crew tries very hard to bring that witty presence back but it’s not possible. It’s a shame clarkson got physical which is also wrong of him to do so hence him being fired or contract not renewed is justified but it goes without saying that Top gear and motoring shows in general won’t be the same again u til another legendary trio can come back with a better essence.
@@UtkarshSingh-ft7ph Of course Clarkson was perfect for Top Gear, even though May and Hammond were just as important parts. But that doesn't matter. You can't allow one of your employees to physically assault someone over cold food like a massive man child and keep him employed. And the BBC has a £5 bn. budget - I wonder whether any of the 'BBC screwed up' people commenting on KZhead realise how big of an organisation it is, and how little a single show, even one as successful as Top Gear, matters to them on the whole.
There is no car on the market which offers that level of luxury with that level of off road ability. Before anyone says jeep...that is not in the same league of luxury, sure its capable but not as luxury

No Sport was offered with Launch Control.

Well, I'm sure there are a lot of wealthy people that can afford several; however, I wouldn't do that with a Range Rover. It just seems wrong; that's a luxury vehicle.
It's a luxury vehicle, but it is still a Land Rover. You can do off road with it, it would take it nicely and you would get out of the mud with a smile in your face, a dirty ca but still intact car and knowing that a land rover is still a land rover.
Oh no doubt, but I'm just the type of person that thinks of a vehicle of that price range should be kept clean and driven on roads/tracks, rather than going off-roading with. But hey, if you're a millionaire/billionaire, buy multiple ones and go off-roading with them; I'm sure it's fun for sure. I myself just do not have the kind of money to do that, haha.
My dads Sport is constantly covered in mud! He's even thinking about ordering a Defender to use that off road instead!

+Rami7605 It's an off-road car with luxuries. The Land Rover started out as a hardcore 4x4 and so that's that. The Range Rover is just an extremely comfortable and posh 4x4 off-roader.

If all that mud running was real then Im VERY surprised. I really didn't think a SUV with normal road tires would be able to go up a muddy hill or down safely. And the cross over of the bump was impressive that it didn't high side itself. remarkable. I'd take one if they want me to test i as a daily driver for a disabled husband and wife :)

I love how when a new model comes out reviewers criticise the older model. The thing is they didn't mention any of that when the older model was new and they were reviewing it. All journalists raved about the older model right up to to point the new one came out.

when I was watching the part where richard was taking the Range Rover up that steep hill, I was like "there is no way that SUV can take that" but when he got to the top i was like "wow"

Luxurious off-road beast
This may be a crazy statement but... i believe the Range Rover Sport Autobiography is the best car on the planet. You can drive your kids to school, to work (in comfort), it sounds sexy as hell, performance of a sports car, and the car looks amazing. oh, and its the most proper off-roading suv along with the G63 AMG and toyota land cruiser. the G wagon is really cool but i get 7 mpg and the ride and handling is terrible. Range Rover Sport is a proper SUV

Props to that hill climb , that’s insane with what type of tires he has on that range rover.
while it wasn't shallow, there's a TON of camerawork that goes into making it a LOT steeper than it is. trees do not grow slanted on the hillside.

One thing I don't understand with Range Rover is they are sold with low profile road tires? Imagine how much better it would have been if it had proper 4WD tires.
It would be fantastic off road, but then it'll compromise the on road road performance that this car delivers.

The order of the corners shown at Donington was completely wrong. They started the lap, showed Redgate, then Coppice, then Hollywood, then McLeans, then the second Craner Curve, then exiting the Old Hairpin, then taking the Old Hairpin.
