I finally did a reaction for Blackpink's "How you like that" and it's a double reaction, I look at the music video AND the dance performanc/practice. After I did "Lovesick girls" and Lilifilm a lot of you guys wanted to this one .

Hard to believe that this dance practice video has over 500 million views. 😨 Most artist would kill to have that view count on their main video, but a dance practice? Wow. Just, wow.

Great reaction, thank you! Just as an FYI, HOW YOU LIKE THAT is about coming back from a dark place stronger than before. There are many Greek references in the video, a few examples are: Rosé (it's pronounced RO-ZAY, like the wine), with the silver hair in the beginning, is portraying Persephone, Goddess of Vegetation (plants, flowers) and the daughter of Zeus. One day while she was out gathering flowers, Hades, God of the Underworld, abducted her and dragged her down to the Underworld where she was forced to become his wife. The video shows her in her beautiful image, surrounded by flowers, as well as how she became, dirty and grey, staring up at the world through a hole in the Underworld. She was eventually allowed to return to the surface for part of the year, which is why we have Spring and Summer. The winged torso in the hall is thought to represent Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. The Trojan Horses at the end are a message from BLACKPINK to the world. They symbolize the fact that BLACKPINK, like the Greeks, will emerge and take over the global music world. If you look at the last scene you will notice that on the inside of the dome it looks like there's an organic growth over parts of the ceiling. It's actually a map of the world that the group is going to dominate.

In Lovesick girls, if don't know if you noticed but Rosé had a bandaid on her arm and Jennie's ankle injury still gives her trouble. That's why their choreos are now simpler but they still nail the details. However no doubt they can pull of more hardcore choreographies.

@@swag428 since there's only 4 girls, it means that they will sing many parts in the song. Unlike other groups that has many members, it can be split so that it won't be tiring. That's why blackpink mostly focuses on "performing" rather than the dance itself. I mean, singing live can be tiring especially with hardcore moves. But nevertheless, I believe that blackpink is a talented group. And if they were given a hardcore choreo (similar to pretty savage) I believe they would slay it 💕

It's hard for me to look at somebody else than Rose in this dance practice. For me the highlight of this performance. I think she is somewhat underrated as a dancer

jennie was actually the one who started the trend about the hair, the music video were released last june of 2020 that's why you see a lot of people on the internet having that kind of hairstyle. She's not the first idol to do that but she's the one who make it a trend

Incase you dont know, this song is for their anti's/haters. There are actually deep meanings behind their different sets. The first scene where you saw a statue with wings, that is the goddess of victory that represents their success, but before that success, they had to overcome the obstacles, so they showed us different sets that tells us the whole story. First scene, jennie was at the bottom of the ocean, with a crystal tear on her face, and it represents that before being famous, they are at the bottom. Second scene where you see jisoo taking off the flowery blind fold that means they are blinded with happy thoughts, and then you see pink walls that represents them, and that pink walls was destroyed by jisoo, if you noticed, there are written words on jisoo's body, and the written words on her body are the 7 deadly sins, so I think that represents the haters, but behind that destroyed pink walls, there is a light that represents hope. Third scene, rosé was deep in the dark woods, with ashes around her, and she's looking up the sky, and again there's light, and her other scene Wich is laying down, with blooming flowers around her, it means that they are dreaming with happy sorroundings, and then she wears the mask that represents rebellion and revenge against there haters. And then they are dancing, surrounded by flowers, representing that they are rising. And if you noticed again, the song at the first was very slow and soft, and as the song goes on, it becomes faster and hard, that means that they are becoming stronger. And the scene when Lisa raps, there was a donkey behind her, and that represents the haters, and then she is sitting on her throne, and the next scene, you see a hawk that represents blackpink. And then jennie is back, with tears on her face, and the water on the floor is jennie's tears, and the umbrella represents their protection against haters. And then jisoo is surrounded with red, and she's holding a book, and that book is the list of haters, and jisoo represents the goddess of revenge, and the umbrellas are burning Wich means they don't need protections anymore. After the snowy, cold set, you see rosé sitting on the first set, and then jisoo in a big dark dome and after that, their background changed from that big dark dome to a pink world, and behind them, there were big horses, and that horses are the trojan horses, and if you noticed, the map of the world was above the horses, and that represents blackpink's world domination.

I know that Lisa is the dancer and don't get me wrong, I've seen the Lily films and she is outstanding. But, in this video of the dance performance I think Rose' is the one that stands out. I read in a few other reaction videos that supposedly Lisa dumbs down her dancing abilities to be more uniform with the rest of the girls. It's very noticeable to me how she's not nearly as good of a dancer in the group as she is on her own, because she is spectacular on her own.

being a blink who casually dance I can really tell that yes it's true that blackpink's choreo is more easier than the other kpop choreos; but BP's points in their choreo is "attitude and charisma" it sounds cringey to say that but i'm telling it as it is, cuz it's different when they deliver it and look cool while doing those simple moves with expressions it becomesore alive. HYLT is actually more harder than KTL and DDDD; non-dancers who casually dance can actually enjoy dancing to blackpink choreos and pro dancers can put more attitude and project more on expressions with BP choreos

You asked about the meaning of the video. As sophisticated as their visuals are the symbolism is even more sophisticated. You should view the English Priest reaction to this video, where a double degreed graduate in Greek Classism from Cambridge University goes into almost scene by scene detail about the symbolism, basically associated with Female Empowerment, overcoming great obstacles, and a bit of revenge themes. It also touches on the suicides of KPOP idols that were related to fan attacks. In the West we really are not used to this level of symbolism, but you can still enjoy the video because of the beautiful scenery and cool beats. But the depth is there, you just have to be way overly educated to recognize and understand it.

You should check out definitely all their dance practices but also from another group Red Velvet they have a subunit with two members named Seulgi and Irene and they have two really good dance videos "Monster" and "Naughty". Psycho by Red Velvet is also a great dance video. And also "Wannabe" from Itzy that dance broke everyone's shoulders trying it!

If you want to see a really funny side of the ladies and a different take on the dance performance, look up their video of their fourth anniversary on their channel. If you like funny things at all, you'll LOVE that one!
Blackpink does something that not many other groups do, which is have themselves as "props" or "extensions" for the "highlight member" who's singing. Kpop groups usually have very intricate and difficult choreography already, but this is one that the choreographer really thought it all out, needing all members to be on point and perform on time, cause they're almost a single unity in some parts. They usually do that in the intro and rap/breakdown parts, and the rest is regular choreography. Yes, you have the members changing places for the spotlight and such, but the prop/extension is used sparsely. For me my number one pick for choreos like this is definitely VIXX. Their choreographer is a genius, imo. They use actual props AND the technique of the group being an extension of a single member in their dance. They're "old school" compared to BP, cause they're 1/1.5 (depending on who you speak to) "generations" behind. I recommend VIXX's MV, dance practice and maybe a few Music Bank's live performances, cause their choreos sometimes had to be changed cause of Korea's broadcasting censorship - which is nonsensical and dear lord 🙄 I worked with Kpop for a while and it was a nightmare! Not the groups, I felt bad for them cause they couldn't even speak to thr fans if it wasn't in our contracts cause the agency CHARGES for things like autographs, pictures, etc and some don't allow the idols to have physical contact with the fans cause they want their idols to remain seemingly "single and available", suuuuuch bullshit you wouldn't believe. Well, things are starting to come out, how they treat the trainees and debuting groups, or even successful groups, sexual scandals, not feeding or housing them, not even PAYING them, while they are obligated to work sometimes 20hrs a day! Nightmare fuel! Anyway, Voodoo Doll and Hyde are great to begin with! ZE:A (especially the short MV of Love Is Gone), Teen Top, Brown Eyed Girls, Block B (Nillili Mambo, Very Good, Nalina, Jackpot) are also great to watch and get an idea of how it was 10 years back, when Kpop was at the peak, but the debuting groups weren't in time with the investments unfortunately, so their moves aren't all precise and sharp (apart from SM groups, but that's cause their contracts were compared to slavery so... yeah)

This is a Greek myth all played out. The wings you see at the beginning is the goddess of victory-Nike. Rosé was Persephone-the wife of Hades who goes up once every spring (that’s why she’s in black and then surrounded by flowers but seems to be lying on a coffin). At the end, you’ll see Trojan horses. And at the dome, you will see a world map in pink-word domination of Blackpink. There are others and it would be too long to put here. Also, they don’t use green screens-all are actual sets.

They can be really synchronize and not taking spotlight to each other even though Lisa seems like the best dancer but they are like really balance in this video. Because when they’re training 10 of them are paired to each other randomly.
