The first emperor to not step foot in Rome after being crowned. Sadly it's only going to get more common.
Macrinus: "Man. Rome must be beautiful at this time of year. Cannot wait to set foot there as Emperor!" 😊
@@OptimusMaximusNero It's sad because what little we know about Macrinus, it seemed he would have been a way better emperor than Elagabalus and Alexander Severus.
@@theicepickthatkilledtrotsk658 Well, being better than Elagabalus is something not difficult at all (I think he even makes Caligula and Nero look like Augustus), while Alexander has always received a lot of unfair hatred, considering that he was declared Emperor against his will at the age of fourteen and had to face powerful enemies like the Sassanid, not mentioning he had to fix the giant mess his cousin caused before him
@@OptimusMaximusNero Nero was not as bad as Caligula
@@senzusensei Maybe, but that's not my point here. The point is that, compared to Elagabalus, Nero was a good emperor
I’m a Berber and mocran is a name still used today in the Berber world witch mean’s the big one Mocran in Berber macrinues in Latin

Macrinus after Caracalla's death: "Now that the Severus are no more in charge, my proud dinasty shall resurface the Empire from its ashes, just like the Flavians did after the infamous Julio-Claudians..." Elagabalus: "Oh, I don't think so, honey..."
It is interesting to speculate how would Macrinus rule if he wasn't overthrown. He clearly wasn't a good general, so perhaps we shouldn't expect many conquests. But did seem to be capable with finances, as he recognized Empire's financial problems, like the rapid devaluation of currency, and honestly tried to fix it. On the other hand, as in regards to his character, he didn't seem to be a tyrant, he didn't instigate purges of Caracalla's family (which eventually cost him his head) and it seems that he genuinely cared about the opinion of the Senate. His reign would no doubt be an interesting one. But alas, the Julias gang got the best of him.
That might have greatly altered the course of history. He might have been like the latter Anastasius of eastern Rome who left the Roman treasury overflowing with wealth.
Such a wojak/okay emperor.
@@joeywheelerii9136 i think that was better if Alexander severus had a co emperor
He's technically, 2nd Pertinax which is unfortunate short-live as well
@@conmane3341 Shame on Dovahhatty portrayed Macrinius as a virgin. Or else Pertinax was a virgin if so.
Another fine video. Macinus gives us a taste of things to come I would say. It also is interesting to see how important Julia Maesa was in bring about the rise of Elagabalus and then Alexander Severus. (Also, The Berber Emperor perhaps?)
hey Daniel. funny seeing you here. love your content dog.
Senators: "We are sorry, Macrinus, but the Severan women have forced us to remove you from the position of Emperor and declare your entire family enemies of Rome..." Macrinus: "WHY?! SINCE I BECAME EMPEROR, I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO REPAIR ALL THIS MESS CAUSED FOR DECADES BY FAULT OF THAT DAMN FAMILY! WITH WHAT ARGUMENTS HAVE YOU BEEN CONVINCED TO KICK ME OUT OF POWER?!" Senators: "They said they would accuse us of being "mysogynists" if we didn't obey them. We have Twitter accounts to take care of, you know?" Macrinus: "Oh, understandable..."
Accurately how modern history is being recorded and will be taught to future generations
""He was the first emperor to have never set foot in Rome. You..... You'll get used to it"
Ahh, I see you're a man of unbiased culture as well.
So good to have more videos of this series!
i feel so bad for diadumenianus
Thank you for your videos. I feel I learn a lot with very emperor you bring to the channel
I'd just like to remind everyone that we're getting closer and closer to our favourite mad Emperor boi , Elagabalus
Let us all know when the final "transition'" takes place.
Amazing channel. One of the best
I keep a close eye on this series, a lot of nice work.
Just perfect
I’m getting Nero flashbacks with how Elagabalus was put on the throne
That damn sound in 5:56, instant like.
Amazing video 👌
Shall you be covering Diadumenian, the son of Macrinus at all?
Yeah, Diadumenian had such an eventful life, while most of his reign was spent on the most important matter of the state - being a child!
Already looking forward to a Video about Elagabal/Heliogabal 😁
More please 🙏
an excellent video as normal
_7:18__ At last I am reunited with my sweet Julia. That was the only silver lining of this whole sorry affair._
Plz continue content to Eugabolus and Alexander..this is my favorite Romen empire channel but its been over 2 months!! I need my fix lol
We need another one
I'm going a bit ahead in history but the wife of Alexander Severus called Sallustia was the only Roman empress featured on Roman coins so after her young husband's death she may have been reigning empress for a short period -if so she would have been the only reigning Roman empress when Rome was pagan -after Constantine there were several Christian Roman empresses who reigned in their own right including Irene of Athens -and it was her ascendancy to the Roman(Byzantine)throne that prompted the pope to crown Charlemagne as Holy Roman emperor in 800A.D.
He seemed like a good Emperor. 🙂
I love these, please dont get disincouraged by lower view counts. these are fucking amazing
Macrinus: you pee, you die, Caracalla!!!
Clicked on the video after misreading berber as barber and was interested to see an emperor giving haircuts.
To think it would be a hundred years from the time of Severus to Diocletian before another emperor died of natural causes or not in crisis mode; i.e. Claudius II dying of plague while campaigning against the Vandals. Aurelian was the last great hope of this time period. Had the damned praetorians (who historically seem more trouble than they're worth) not murdered him, we might all still be speaking Latin!
Your videos tend to be longer the longer a Roman Emperor reigned for. Naturally, those videos take longer to come out. *You'll be uploading videos every 30 minutes once you get to the Crisis of the Third Century Emperors!*
I think some may have to be done in bundles, like the first two Gordians, and basically everyone from the year 238 besides Maximinus Thrax.
Geta?
It's written Barbar on the thumbnail!
The word berber is barbar spelled differently
@@John-pk9rw same as Barber 💈💇♂️

Macrinus should have defeated Elagabalus who was not suited to be emperor sad tale of what might have been:(
Leah Lipps phenotype Michael Doukas 7
He tried, but fell rather short
Please replace the thumbnail. It says "barbar" instead of "berber".
His biggest mistake was not killing the rest of the Severan Family
thefirst emperor to lose to a fairy emperor lol
Firstus viewus
Macrinus was clearly not a very good Barber. He had all that bushy hair on his face that needed snipping. I guess you could say that his reign was full of lots of close shaves, but at the end it was cut rather short. He would lose his barber shop to Elegabalus beauty salon.
Wait, why are you citing "Historia Augusta"? That work is spurious, and should be taken with extreme caution.
The Historia Augusta should be used with care indeed, but its not all fabrication. I've studied that book and know which parts that are contested. And when I do use it I cite it so the viewer know the source... Sometimes you have to use that book as a source. ALL historians use it as a source for this period, and just as I do, we use it with care.
@@TheSPQRHistorian are you syvanne?
@@TheSPQRHistorian The book was just a huge pile of poo
@@causantinthescot Your not wrong, and if we had better sources we wouldn't have to use it, but if its all we got - you kinda have to use it but make sure you state the source so the viewer understand that it should be taken with a grain of salt.
Stop parroting what you read in your wikipedia article. With a bit of judgement, Historia Augusta can be used just like any other source. Most of the Christian sources are a solid wall of lies and fantasy, yet we use them.
Caracalla looks like the average school bully and his son Elagabalus was the first transgender Emperor. Ironic. . .
Elagabalus was Caracalla’s cousin.
0/10, he lost to El*gabablus
Your pronunciation needs work.
F*ck pronunciation
He was moor having African decent. He had black features and was not white complected
no
Maurs have fair skin ,the acient berbers in general had fair skin , but some mixed with sub saharan races after migrating to Sahara, but even till today there is still white maurs.
We're not subsaharans, focus on your "history" if u can call it that
