  • Gary was far better than a lot of people give him credit for, including himself. Consistent, reliable, and had a brilliant read of the game. He was a winner. He's too hard on himself nowadays as he looks back in hindsight, and it runs the risk of misleading younger people who didn't get to watch him week in week out. Yes there were a few mistakes here and there, but if you're a professional for 19 years at any job, you're bound to have a couple.

    • He sold Yaya once at Barcelona. Yaya’s contract ran out at City, at the age of 35. Pep did not sell him, and even triggered an extension on his contract. Also Yaya was never “pushed out to centerback”, he played the UCL final against United at CB, because Barcelona had multiple injuries at centerback. Also a reminder for you, Yaya won the trophy that day and completely pocketed the United attack. So much misinformation my guy… Such an L.

    • @SHERPHERD MASAKURE yaya was amazing but he had the ability to be so much better than he was if that makes sense. The likes of Keane, Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard, De Bruyne, Silva, Fabegas, Vieira were world class for years. Toure may have had the technical ability to have done what they did but the way things unfolded he just wasn't at that level as long as they were. Even if his prime was higher than all of them which you could maybe argue he'll never end up getting in these all time XIs. Obviously he's still an all time great but the reason people struggle to rank him is he couldve been the best of the lot but he didn't end up being that. I'd take Toure at his best over Silva and even De Bruyne but he wouldn't get in a combined XI unless it was literally "on their day who was the best".

No disrespect to Walker but Gary was the smarter player and he did very well in an incredibly stacked era against world class opposition for both club and country.

  • Gary always plays down his achievements but he had a longer, more successful and especially more consistent career than a lot of supposedly best right backs. He played for United for almost 20 years and won 8 PL titles. Only two players have more, Scholes and Giggs. He also won the CL twice and appears on lists of top 10 right backs of all time, but not just in the PL, he appears in those lists with the likes of Cafu, Zanetti, Dani Alves and Lahm.
