The Forgotten Midfielder Who Was World Class At EVERYTHING

Clarence Seedorf is the only footballer in history to win the champions league with 3 different clubs.
While there have been many great jack of all trades throughout football - Clarence Seedorf was not just great at doing everything on the pitch - he was absolutely world class.
To me, he was truly one of the most complete midfielders in history - but at the same time, he really is underrated. He should be up there in discussions of the greatest midfielders the game has ever seen, and I'm here today to convince you why he deserves it.

  • I'm from The Netherlands, Seedorf has a bad image here.. it's sad. He missed a penalty in the WC i think, and never played at the level he did at his clubs for the national team,. Mostly because we had so much midfield talent, they posted him on the left, like you mentioned in the video they did at Real, to fit in more 'attractive' players. When Seedorf talks, he sounds smart (he is) and he knows what he wants, this is perceived to be 'arrogant' in my country which is a big no no here. He never got the love from The Netherlands he clearly deserves. I had wished for him to have some more luck in his international career, and he would be loved like everybody loves Giullit. This man deserves a statue in Milan tbh. One of the biggest legends of the game, period.

    • He deserves a statute at Ajax as well. As for his lack of success with the Netherlands: during Seedorf's career peak the Dutch had loads of cr@p, outdated coaches like Hiddink and Advocaat who couldn't get the best out of him and preferred to rely on hard working midfielders like Cocu and van Bommel... Cocu and van Bommel over Seedorf, for Christ's sake!! Van Basten meanwhile didn't even pick him in 2006 and 2008 when he was at his peak. Once he was removed from the toxic Dutch NT environment and given the chance to work with clever coaches like Capello, Heynckes and Ancelotti, Seedorf shone like a diamond.

He was just not a fantastic player but also a great man, always humble and ready to help his teammates. His pure class was a pleasure to see every time he played. With Pirlo and Gattuso came out a perfect chemistry for midfield. And don't forget this man won 4 Champions League with 3 different teams (Ajax, Real Madrid, and Milan). Could play anywhere, find anyone with a pass, score from anywhere, could dribble, defend, run. On top of that, technically world class, strong, quick, incredibly balance, creative. With all that there were just bigger players around him. On top of him not showing out for the Netherlands in a generation where we had absolute world class footballers, he missed a really big penalty. Also perceived as arrogant. But an absolute superstar. • Seedorf is the most underrated player in the Netherlands. Because of his problems with the national team, not many people appreciate him. About six days ago they also tried to bring the national team topic up again on Dutch tv and he wanted nothing to do with it. Phenomenal player but heavily underrated. When you think of the Netherlands, you think of Rijkaard, Gullit, Cruyff, Sneijder, RVP, Robben and others but not everyone mentions Seedorf which is a shame tbh. Still the only player to win the UCL with 3 different clubs.

  • Even though he didn't produce the same for the national team as he did for his clubs, Seedorf is still my favorite player to have worn the orange jersey of the Netherlands. Not Cruyff or Bergkamp or Gullit. And I'm Dutch. Given how well he has fit in with every club team he ever played for or coached, I suspect the problem in the national team was a coaching / strategic issue.

  • I can’t say this enough, Seedorf should’ve been held onto by Real Madrid and should have played in a midfield with Zidane, Makelele and Figo.

  • As a kid, Seedorf can choose to play anywhere, he is tall strong and intelligent, in the end central midfielder is his best position because of his pass and long shoot
