Victims and survivors of Jeffrey Dahmer say they want people to see him for who he really was -- not the glamorized TV version. See a never-before-aired interview with Dahmer’s father and stepmother that sheds light on the monster behind the man. They provide chilling details about his bizarre childhood behaviors. Plus, the Netflix series Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story pushed a decades-old story into today’s spotlight, some say giving it a 2022 “pop culture moment.” After the series debuted, Dahmer’s infamous glasses went up for sale for $150,000, and people dressed up as the notorious serial killer for Halloween. Has our culture’s obsession with true crime desensitized us?
Check out Part 2 of Dr. Phil's Interview with Jeffrey Dahmer's Father here:

  • His mother leaving him did NOT turn him into a serial killer, no more than Hitler's rejection from art school turned him into a genocidal maniac. It's terrifying to accept, but there's no reliable root for psychopathy.

And I think Jeffrey's father has everything to do with this, I think Jeffrey witnessed some things done by his father.. And that's all I'm going to say.

Forty-five percent of school shooters had histories of alleged animal cruelty, and 21 percent of serial murderers admitted to childhood animal abuse. I made a point earlier that Biology Rules and this is probably more true with serial killers. And maybe head trauma too plays a role. "British child psychiatrist Stephen Scott, an expert in childhood and adolescent antisocial behavior, explains that “unlike regular antisocial behavior, serial killers seem to be born rather than made, with a Heritability of 80 percent of the characteristics being due to genes, whereas with ordinary antisocial and later criminal behavior, it is only 30 percent.”

  • I don't feel bad for Lionel. He loves to place all the blame of Jeffery being messed up on his ex-wife Joyce, he wrote a whole Book about it, but in Reality, he completely added to the mix too. He was neglectful, an unemotional robot, and was too busy being off with his New girlfriend who then became his wife (the lady next to him here), to Notice how messed up Jeffrey was. The warning signs were there ALL ALONG. His weird behaviour... drinking before school... coming home from school drunk... yelling and hitting trees in the garden... The public nudity... Molesting a child... A prison sentence... Being discharged from the military... Stealing a mannequin and sleeping with it... The locked box of the head which Jeffrey refused to open... Lionel making him move out from the grandmother's house... The signs were there. Fact. Lionel just wasn't emotionally EQUIPPED to be able to Deal with them. And because of that, he brushed everything under the carpet. Which had Devastating consequences for many people. But in hindsight, it's very easy to play the "Oh my ex-wife was sooo messed up" card, write a book on it and do loads of interviews where you look very sad, and try to absolve yourself of all responsibility of it.

    • They're making an attempt to dissociate the psychopath, Jeffrey, from the person they believe they knew. As she said, "we know him as Jeff." Years ago, the original interviews were played quite often. I remember thinking that correcting his name was odd. Especially during the timing of questions on certain interviews. It seemed it was their way of suggesting they only know him as Jeff, the sweet boy we raised and loved as opposed to Jeffrey this horrific psychopath. Maybe the dissociation in their minds aleiveate accepting some level of responsibility that they missed the development of a serial killer.

I’m sure some experiences in life can alter a personality. But a serial killer of this magnitude is a born killer.

  • I've always felt most badly for Jeffrey Dahmer's parents to be honest. They didn't choose for their son to grow up and become a serial killer with cannibalistic tendencies. I've never met them personally but I imagine that it has to be a real burden just to wake up each morning knowing that your son was The guy who had dismembered body parts all over his apartment, and severed heads in the freezer next to the popsicles. I can't even begin to imagine how it must feel day in and day out, just knowing that your child was Jeffrey Dahmer, and what it must feel like going to your local grocery store and just hoping to God that no one recognizes you and starts throwing rocks in your direction. Seriously. That's no way to live.

  • What if Jeff’s father contributed to his actions? The defense “He just didn’t want to be alone” is a huge RED FLAG. The fathers approach, calmness when speaking… I’m not saying he is… I’m saying the way he defended the acts of a murderer is contrary to a normal issue. His eyes, face, voice. Seemingly Emotionless. Which could be from years of mental anguish, or something more sinister…

  • Well if Jeffrey Dhamer tried to tell his father of his evil doings or if both his parents were so consumed by their own problems that they did not stop to pay attention to the signs of abnormal behavior or if they would have sought out real & consistent help for him maybe that would have made a difference. In my opinion, yes the parents are a fault to a certain extent. He was left alone & abandoned. How long before the father physically came around to check up on him when his mother abandoned him? Freaking taxidermy? The human mind is complex and traumatic experiences can deeply affect and alter one's mental development.
