they do have people like that. but with after all the compromises that happen between engineering and bureaucracy we get engines that are not well engineered and barely meet standards
Building parts for replacement is also part of the business. If parts don't go bad on your vehicle, you won't need to visit the dealer and thus breaking the chain of all the other key players in the auto business. That's my opinion anyway.
Because they earn a lot of money making bad stuff. Never buy a german car that is older than 5 years. When the garanti is out, the problems starts. Buy Toyota, they don't speculate in bad quality.

BMW engines are reliable. Everything else isn't.
Consumer Reports yearly reliability reports for major car brands and models, rated BMW as the third most reliable carmaker after Toyota and Lexus. Honda was 5th in the ranking.
The Lexus UZ 3 series engine was certified for aviation in the Lexus LS. if you want to know how reliable an engine is for it to be aviation certified - its on another level. Incredible. My 2005 Camry has the 2AZ FE engine with timing chain with well over 350,000 kms. Over 18 years old and no issues. Toronto Canada

I also had a 2005 Camry with the 2.4 2AZ FE engine. I took great care of it and sold it with 218,000 miles...it still ran like it was brand new. I owned it for 15 years and the entire car NEVER LEAKED ONE DROP OF ANYTHING! I sold it because I bought a 2020 Camry LE with the engine featured here in this video...the 2.5 Dynamic Force 4 cyl. with 203 HP. What a quality engine!!

Yes, they do! I have a 2005 Camry, 2.4L. It has 150K miles and burns oil. My mechanic says it will barely make it to 200K miles. I've had nothing but problems. @@tym5583

My 2017 Accord with the 3.5L V6 just reached 380,000KM. Never had a check engine light and never even hesitated to start. Fantastic engine and sounds great too
you got lucky, i heard the generation after started having major issues especially with the new engines on the sport models. they had to switch it back to the older engines lol

Have a 2006 Honda Civic. Bought brand new, 1.8 liter has over 400.000 km. Change oil at 5000 miles. . Still runs and drives like new.
Can't go wrong with Honda and Toyota for the most part, but I definitely wouldn't get a BMW these days, and have to disagree with it being ranked along with Toyotas and Hondas when it comes to reliability, longevity, and maintenance cost. A Toyota will easily run twice as long with a fraction of the maintenance and repair costs. That being said, 4 of those 5 are pretty accurate and spot on.

B58 engine is super reliable. BMW has improved a lot even Toyota has partnered with BMW to use BMW diesel engines in their cars. Toyota Supra uses a BMW petrol engine

I had a colleague, once, who was successful in her career, but far from rich. but she wanted to invest in a nice car, to take good care of and keep a long time. So she bought a brand new Rover, a Discovery I believe. Well, she had it about a year, when, while driving, she noticed smoke. She stopped the car, stepped aside, and watched the entire car burn to the ground! It turned out that the novel pneumatic leveling system had leaked fluid on the exhaust system, igniting a fire. The company was, after a little rangling. good for it I believe. She demanded a BRAND NEW Discovery, this time without that option, and, a believe, she got one.
Toyota Camry upper-end noise(12:45) is the high pressure fuel pump. The D4S system switches between port and direct injection. When it is direct, usually when the car is first started, it'll be noisy. The Car Care Nut Channel has a video on Toyota/Lexus D4S. Worth a watch

The 3.5 v6 in my 2018 lexus gs350 sounds like an 80s diesel when you first start it on a cold morning. Clattering. But it's normal, and goes away as it warms up.
@@labornurse I also have a Gs350. I wouldn't go so far to say it sounds like a diesel but it is loud for sure in direct injection/cold starts
I have a 99 Corolla with the 1ZZ and the oil burning issue is honestly overblown with how easy it is to replace anything on that engine. I replaced the valve cover gasket and had it back together within an hour, and the O2 sensor took a half hour
if you make an engine right the first time it makes the same power forever and extra power virtually also forever with high torque absorbing everything
The 99 Corolla was not the problem year. It was 2000-02.
My father had that 1.8L Honda engine in a Civic. That car had no strain driving 80mph on the highway.

My 2007 Lexus Is 250 has 185k miles. It runs like it's brand new. The only thing non maintenance part I have replaced is the water pump.

Rented a Kia K5 2022 and it was fun to drive. Did not push it too hard and on the NY State thruway / Mass pike got around 40 MPG about 70 MPH outside temps avg 70. Like you and Scotty Kimer says I would not own one tho. Did I say it was fun to drive?

Get a Toyota, Honda or Mazda your odds of having a reliable low maintenance vehicle for many years increase by simply getting one of those vehicles. It’s really a no brainer.
I don't matter I seen them all behind tow trucks. If you look after your Car or Truck or SUV and it ain't a lemon. Then you are lucky. They all make lemons. Just look in the junk yard. Mine is a 2011 Impala with 3.5 V6 it look new and runs like new. I put the good oil in it for oil changes. I have over 115000 on it. Never had to do anything to it. I only buy American cars or Trucks. 😅
I had a Honda Accord and I ran the hell out of that poor car. When I got rid of it, it had 360,000 kilometres. The engine was still running great, but the rest of the car was falling apart. It was a great car that put up with a lot of abuse and kept running.
How many years old was it? Because my 2017 Accord just reached 380,000km and still looks mint and drives like new
@@aaz1992 I think it was a 1994 Accord. It had a 2.4L engine with a manual transmission. If I drove it easier it would have lasted longer. I beat the hell out of that car and the engine ran like a top when I got rid of it.
i have a 2009 eclipse gs 2.4 liter N/A 4 cylinder,,,got it in 2018,had 170.000 miles then,,,,it now has over 180,000 miles on it ,no smoking,,idles quite,,i have only replaced a starter and brake shoes,,,just passed a inspection
50k in my gx460. Strangely did find low coolant level over the weekend though. No signs of leaks and no overheating. Topped off and monitoring daily - hoping the reservoir cap was not on tight.
your GX460 is barely broken in. The 1UR should last as long as the 1UZ V8 engines.

Check the coolant pipe from radiator, engine, etc.. check the clamps, check if the pipe is hardened at the clamping ends, etc...
Hey I have the same engine in my tundra. 76k miles. Gotta watch out for the water pumps. They tend to weep slowly over time. There’s lots of info out there on Reddit and KZhead about it. Until you see a trail of pink crust (from the coolant burning off) from the pump down to the bottom of the frame, I wouldn’t worry. When it gets to that point, better have it replaced

My 06 Civic have 246k Miles with not issues, reliable and great on gas that's why Honda is a bullet proof
Mercedes OM642 engine, fitted to Mercedes cars and used in UK Emergency ambulances ( Sprinters). These do 500.000 miles without dropping a beat and they are hammered, and just need servicing. They can go well over 1 million miles if looked after.

Its the same garbage with a turbo slapped on it, so its probably worse in the long haul. Nothing Kia makes would be considered bulletproof. Only a few Japanese brands deserve that label. Toyota, Mazda, some Hondas
@@Mach141 Difference however is they used forged internals and sodium filled valves which dissipate heat better. Go online and you don't hear any major issues people are having specifically with the v6 (Sure maybe one or two here and there but most of them are tuned or abused as every car brand even Toyota has engines fail early on). Tons of people have already surpassed 100k miles without any issues and two known stingers already hit 200k miles without any major issues either.
Stinger owner here. Certainly do not have an exceptionally large number of miles on my vehicle, but I’m just over 45k and the vast majority of that has been spent modded. Absolutely zero issues with the cars drivetrain in the 4 years I’ve owned mine. And I certainly abuse the car fairly often. No crazy maintenance either. Mostly oil + filter changes, tire rotations and alignments. I got my injectors cleaned preemptively at 42k as well as a coolant flush. That’s literally it.
@@GearHead_Media Nice! Sounds like she's been very good too you, still very low miles but hopefully many more good miles to come. I also have a 2022 Stinger Scorpion edition. The only problem I have with these cars is the gdi system with no port injection, so be ready to clean the valves soon

i recently read of a 1976 diesel Mercedes Benz car that was driven by a greek taxi driver and clocked 4.5 million kms! would we ever see indirect injection diesels in modern cars again?
I LOVE the 460... GREAT vehicle-- and easily CUSTOMIZABLE.. which I intend to do.. GREAT engine- with the timing CHAIN instead of belt.. and YES- 4runner basic frame and powertrain- which means it will OUTPERFORM jeeps offroad-- but run like a quality limo on road... I WANT ONE.

I used to have a 5 Speed 1976 hatch back B210 Datsun, it get about 35 to 40 in cty and 40 to 50 miles hwy per gallon, last over 850,000+ miles when I trade it for 1980 Mustang Cobra ( Big mistake )

In the Mercedes-Benz museum in Porto, Portugal, there is a Mercedes 200D of 1988 with 1.9 Million Km a bit less than 1.2M miles, it was a Taxi for 13 years. I believe there was a time when Mercedes did really good cars, now... not so much :(

Ive got a 2008 civic here in australia with that 1.8 and a manual transmission. 223,000km on the clock. I change the oil with quality oil and filters every 10,000km. It purs like a kitten. These engines are bulletproof.
My 2010 civic lx has 171,000 and changed the oil every 5000 miles and the coolant every 20,000 miles. Chaged the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles. No problems.
B58 is so good; Toyota engineers even approved it. Bmw made it even better with the B58TU.
From which year onwards B58 is available?
@@minnus222I think the first model it was offered in was the F3X 340i and 440i starting in 2018 or so. All new bmws with the “40i” moniker use the B58 whereas the 30i uses B48 and 50i uses N63. The og B58 in the F3X was good but had minor issues that were fixed with the B58TU as mentioned which is in the later cars
What do you think about the 3UR FE 5.7 V8. Man, that 5.7 has huge balls. It is no slouch and I have seen on KZhead that 500 000 miles is achievable.

Good videos on the whole thank you. It appears you don't quite understand that static compression ratio has nothing to do with boost. Static simply means the ratio without considering how much pressure is bled off due to intake and exhaust valve overlap making the effective compression ratio lower.
Toyota makes good engines because they are well balanced, generating low levels of vibration

I can attest to this. My mom commuted for years in a 06 2.4l galant! Car was almost at 294,000 miles before the timing belt unfortunately snapped and hit the valves. Nonetheless a great car

If you want a reliable car don't buy a Volvo V50 diesel (you will need to change the engine, the question is not if, but when). And then there is saab 9-3 & 9-5 the oilpump breaks and when the oil lamp lights up its already to late and the engine is scrap.

The GM 3800 V6 is pretty bulletproof and parts are very cheap.
Transmission goes out before engine and so does everything else.
If you want something just as reliable but rides smoother and sounds better, get a Lexus or a Toyota with a 2GR engine. That 3.5L DOHC V6 is a cruiser engine. Enough power to blow off steam if someone cuts you off and smooth enough for cruising around at night.
The 3.5 V6 in the Impala is good too.😮
One company I use to work for, had two Ford Taurus vehicles we used for deliveries. Both had the 3 liter Vulcan V6. We were able to put over 300,000 on both of them. You don't need to buy an import to get a ton of miles on your vehicle.
That's almost never the case since most domestic cars are fairly unreliable, especially Ford and Dodge. Japanese and Korean cars are the most reliable ones, and it's been like that for a long time.
You got that right, Ford 3.5 V6 is rock solid. I owned mine for 14 years and the only problem I have had under the hood is a high-pressure power steering line leaking. The engine still purrs like a kitten.
An import is usually referring to a car that isn’t typically sold in the US, like a Nissan skyline or Peugeot.. not just Japanese/Korean etc cars
@@180mmTV You're probable the only person that thinks the term "Import" is for grey market cars like the Skyline. Import is usually used for cars that come from Korea and Japan and it's been like that for decades.

a 1.8 at 7.1 compression was able to do 450 HPlate 80s, nowadays they do 1000hp with some extra cash. 18, 2.0, 2.2, the toyota 4 cyls not just the 3sgte 4age but 2zz 2ar 3rz
My Kia Sportage 2005 gave me a lot of trouble. I keep on fixing it, but now it is standing because the AC stopped working. My VW Jetta 1986 model never gave me any problems.
I had Sportage 2015 and it was a good car for 5 years! Now Stinger 2018 as car number two with 2,2 l engine and no problemas at all, yes brakes was bad at 80,000km! So we have 3 Kias in ouer family and they go good! VW Passat 2006 was a real bad car, so many problems so i wanted kill it right a way!
What about Toyota's 1ZZ-FE (1.8 single VVT-I) and 2ZR-FE (1.8L Dual VVT-I)? These engines will basically outlast the body of the Corollas powered by 'em. A good friend of mine bought a used 2008 Matrix back in 2012 with 69 000kms on it. His 1ZZ-FE is now at ~240 000kms on the clock and it still runs like a dream. I bought a 2015 Corolla CE 6MT brand new in october of 2015 with the 2ZR-FE and had it until august of 2020. Sometimes I did beat the hell out of that 1.8L and the 6MT with rev limiter action included. That bastard NEVER left me stranded. Yes I drove it hard but I always respected the 6 months/8000km maintenance intervalls. Now I drive a 2021 Corolla SE since august of 2020 with the M20A-FKS (2.0L) and not a single issue with it in almost 3 years.

Honda was very reliable until they started using the GDI fuel injection which every time I pull my dipstick I smell gasoline on it and of course the dealer says it's perfectly normal to smell some gasoline that's kind of funny I never smelled any gasoline on any of my Hondas that have been purchasing since 1987 until they started with the GDI
Fuel pump leaking into the crankcase. I had a Cutlass Salon that did that. I changed the head gasket but that didn't work. Just kept filling it with STP oil treatment.

i have a toyota sienna 2016 with a 3.5l V6, with almost 574000km, still running fine, no lost of power, seems to be unbreakable, will probably last forever, but some beginning of body rusting, probably what's going to kill it
Did you ever change transmission oil?
When I bought my 2023 Kia Soul I already knew what I was getting into... I was like... *Challenge ACCEPTED😎* at the dealership. I've been known to push the crappiest of cars to high mileage limits. Let's see how long this Nu 2.0L lasts me. Plus it was only $22k for a new hatchback in an overpriced market... Can't beat that with a bat. 😆
I don't know about your the longevity & reliability of your Soul (ooh, that sounds weird...), and I wouldn't even accept a Kia/Hyndai as a rental. BUT... I did see a recent dashcam vid of one hitting a stray tire, front-flipping, landing like a cat in the passing lane of a Calif. freeway. Impressive!😂
@@laurat1129 Well if it lasts me the duration of the powertrain warranty I'll be happy. Either way when my son starts driving in 3 years he can have it as a first car. I have my eye already set on a couple of vehicles for my replacement.

B58 might be better than N54 and S55 in many ways, but essentially all are direct injection. It would be interesting to see how much of a carbon buildup accumulated in a 7 year old B58.
As with all things, maintenance. Just changed the injectors on my B58 and man they were bad. E85 stage 2+ for context
B48 also reliable?
@@minnus222I believe so, it’s effectively a B58 with 2 cylinders chopped off it just doesn’t get recognized because it’s a 4 cylinder
Unless it has a secondary fuel injections system like what Toyota uses in it's DI engines, it's going to have carbon buildup in it's valves. Its the curse of all DI engines. I have a Stinger GT with the 3.3L TT DI engine and I'm dreading having to deal with that in the next 4-5 yrs. I wish we stayed with Port Injection.
Doesn’t a catch can and extra regular maintenance would keep gdi engines clean?

I have a truck is 2007 Chevy Silverado classic. 5.3L it has 400,000 miles on it.. it is old. I am doing my best to take care of engine and transmission is original!

With all the bad engines of Hyundai and Kia being replaced, no way would I ever own either. Owned one years ago. Never again. It was a 💩
You failed to mention that most camrys have the cvt transmission and I bet you 1 million dollars cash that it won't last 300,000 miles, not even 200,000!!

I thought you were talking about reliable cars not new cars you can't tell if a new cars reliable. Until after years of on the road use. Except for tires up and maintenance My absolutely dual exhaust. 351 M400 engine in my F150 four-wheel drive ranger XLT. It's has factory 351 Cleveland performance heads on top of a 400 block. Making it a 351 stroker engine. It's a total torque monster. The odometer says 46,000 because it only goes up to 100,000 it's been around 4 times already. Gone through 3 clutches. Few throwout bearings. The engine and transmission has never been repaired just good maintenance. 22R engine in a1985 Toyota 4x4 pickup 370.000 miles Weber carburetor and aftermarket exhaust. Still strong. Gets 37 MPG.
