  • The main problem with dual gap is trying to maintain a connection to 12 player from all around the world for at least 5 minutes.

  • Once I telesniped the whole bottom part of the enemy. They had 2 Salvation and at least 3 T3 arty and we couldn't do anything because there was too much pressure on our bases. We had all the middle ground and atleast 75% of the sea. I telesniped 2 commanders and the chainreaction of the pgens destroyed their arties then I microed out their battleships and teleported back home. Man, the feeling when you turn over the whole game and see the chat then you see the last 3 capitulating the F out when literally 1min ago they were chilling xD Many months ago did almost the same on another version of dual gap where is an island on the upper part. I realised that my opponent on the air spot was way better in air then me and he already gained the upper island. So I rushed corsairs, sniped him and sabotaged some of the others. I was behind in air obviously, sniping at 11 min with 13-15 corsairs is raping your eco. Later they got the upper hand, we barely held land and navy up so I decided for a range-telesnipe and aimed at their mass fabs and pgens. Took out 3 bases with this and at the end I died only because OUR C-zar dropped on my commander while I burned their last commander with the microvawe. These game made my day :D

    • I also played open wonder as air, corsaired 2 and killed 2 with monkey, held fire until I reached in visual range and their commander didn't knew I was comming. - really usefull tactic, idk why pro players doesn't use it.

    • There are a million OP strats on dual gap, especially if you get some nominal mass/energy flow from teammates. Corsairs is one of the cheesiest as if you have 14 or so any exposed comm *will* die if you rush it. Getting mass/energy flow from one or two teammates makes the corsair timing so short that it's basically unbeatable as gap is a 99% lost game if you lost someone and their entire base early. One of the many reasons why share-after-death should be the default option for supcom.

  • Dual Gap's very team focused. Having played a fair bit of Dual Gap because I do enjoy it, both the build phase and the strategies of it, the difference between 6 players and a team is measurable. And two teams mean the game lasts quite a long time. That said, I get why you don't like it, and it's because it's very complicated Astrocraters, or the Pass where the map is purpose built to make the game last as long as possible. Because frankly it's easy to get short games where the commanders rush each other and die in the middle in an eye-searing series of explosions, and while that's fun and fast paced, it means no one's actually getting to play with all the cool late game toys. (Also south Eco should have had a loaded nuke defense to catch the second missile. Just one of those things you do, like the second front on north being responsible for it's SMD. Build them up against the cliff edge to defend against Strats, and shield them to avoid them getting Novax'd.)

  • My main gripe about this map isn't the map itself, its the player base that it seems to draw 9/10 times. Between the 1kers barking orders non stop, or backseat commanding once they are dead, and those that just play this map with a cookie cutter style of tactical awareness, ehh its very daunting. that and I use to absolutely hate getting front/sec front/navy slotted back in my more noobery days. That and also back when I first started faf, you had to filter through the 10+ dual gap lobbies to find the one not dual gap lobby. All in all, not a bad map, but yeah I don't get how ppl can play gap and nothing but gap. P.S. halo just dropped the forge, I'm pretty sure their player base beats faf at least rn ;)

  • You started in the air slot and marched your commander to the middle? Lmao! You didn't even do anything there either. Lol OK I'm done picking on you. You are right that this map leads to late game finishers but thats exactly why people play it. They want to build the Mavor or Yolo and still strggle to win with it because the other team has a Paragon or Scathis. Think of it like people playing the FAF version of a tower defense game. If you wanted to do early skirmishes then you could do that with every slot. Its easier with the navy and land slots. I often find players turtle early on so i go aggressive on land to get control of the center an let my team take advantage of the mass left behind to build what they need. There are all types of strategies you can use but most of the late game ones involve breaking a turtle. Its just the build order in the beginning is usually the same. You should have kept your commander in your base and sent engineers to the center if you wanted to go there. Gain air control, support the land players with air-to-ground, continuous scouting, air-to-sea support with navy. Those are some of the tasks for the slot you were on. And you could have built game enders once you've built the eco. I think this map was designed to play tower defense with game enders but its not required if you're creative, can maintain your eco, and have good intel.

  • Lol, this is like the shortest DualGap game I've ever seen. 3:28 For whatever reason, it feels like when you do factory attack que they end up reclaiming individual trees way more often. I haven't really gone in dept to uncover the truth but I have changed my play style to only use factory attack que on mass fields. And actually there is something that i've been having trouble with regarding this... Maybe you can help? So like when I do a factory move into shift+attack it will move my engineers to that spot then they move to the second spot and begin doing the long range stationary reclaim. But I'm almost certain that it used to be that if you que up an attack move after a move from a factory it would just do a regular attack move. Am I wrong? Or is there a way to toggle this? I'm at a loss... -Post end comments- It's honestly not a bad map in and of itself. It does lend itself to a different type of play style where you trade off tactics for strategy. As for the whole late game vs early game play, that is more about the nature of map size and spawn adjacency than it has to do with the map specifically. Honestly, I'd say Dual Gap is more of a Tug-of-War type of map than anything. And I think the reason people play this map the most is because, Like you mentioned before, it does reduce the multi-tasking load on each individual player but without getting _toooooo_ far from the _nature_ of Random Gen maps like Astro and NoPass do. And yeah, everyone posts comments before watching the end. This always has and will continue to happen. 99% of people won't even watch the last 10 seconds unless they're tabbed out. If you really want people to watch the very very end then put an outro as filler but that's still only going to be a fraction of viewers. But you're at an extra disadvantage because most peeps will stop watching after the game you're casting concludes. But the number 1 thing you should keep in mind. *Don't let comments from random people on the internet get to you.* If you're going to continue to make content on here then you absolutely have to ignore all the bullcrap. Nothing is more relentless and inexhaustible.

    • 32 minute game, lol. Wasn't quite 'short' in my opinion. Shortest DG match I've seen was over in around 10 minutes, lol. What they did was an interesting strategy I've yet to encounter, again. (Because I don't play DG, 😂). Jokes aside, I actually never seen anyone do it before or after that game I had years ago.

  • The problem is that there is allot of meta in this map. you have to play the role exactly to the meta, for example you should have gone pure Air in that spot.

  • I do feel like playing a lot of dual gap hamstrings you in terms of normal FAF gameplay. I used dual gap to get back into FAF after a long break but wish I watched a few vids and dropped into ladder or map gen games instead. You tend to pick up a lot of bad habits as a crutch

  • not trying to criticise your play but i am criticising the effort i think you can agree with this to be fair you didn't exactly do anything... it wouldn't matter what map your on if all you do is send a solo acu out for 3mins reclaim trees rebuild after getting attacked and shield your production. it's not going to matter what map your on like it's going to be a dull time. like i thinkj it's safe to say you could've put in some effort rather then just giving up before you started. it is a poor designed map though. mainly due to that disincentive to make any plays as it doesnt matter if you are able to attack one of the points of contest. as you cant actually claim the mexes as the enemy above/below/both would prvent it. which causes this static gameplay where you need to build up enough to push right past generally through defeating and reclaiming a rushed t4 unit or putting more mass into navy as pushing navy can control 2/3 of the points of contest it's probably obvious in hindsight but you couldve scouted there production to see all those attacks on you labs/strats/nuke. if you werent going to push with air ground sams/flak couldve covered your mexes or you couldve built mass fabs rather then run with so much power overflow after building for asf production. just a simple attack drop/bombers/tml to force the enemy to put mass into defences would've been good or just engi reclaim drop. P.S if you just need some shield so your not vulnerable to weak air attacks t2 shields wouldve worked and you could covered all your mexes for the cost of one t3 shield

  • Your inherent reason's don't change, even if you are rusty or aren't up to speed on the meta of a extremely specific map. At the end of the day, it is basebuilding, and there are lots of basebuilding games. FAF is at its best in other areas it does better. Other games do basebuilding better, honestly.

  • I feel as though you got frustrated because you lost. Of course it will play in a different way than other maps, but I prefer this to having somebody be ejected in the first few minutes because he didn't pay attention. It's unfortunate that you don't like it because I'd love to see replays of high rank games with a lot of people. They are so much better than low elo games. Detaching from the situation and thinking rationally it would be stupid not to cast games on this map or you shall not pass and etc, because the majority of players play exactly those games. So if you mix and match you might have a bigger audience.

    • Unfortunately, gap exposes the fact that supcom breaks apart as a balanced game if players have a chokepoint to hold (ie. a non-T1 spam game). There are a thousand cheesy strats on gap that win the game instantly, and many of them revolve around more than one teammate sharing mass/energy income to their eco or air position (which can only really be done on gap due to lack of early game T1 spam game). A 16 minute nuke, for example, is not counterable, because you have to cover ~3 bases worth of space against a nuke that could never be built this fast without team resource sharing.

  • Gap is boring, too much meta. The one time someone does something that breaks the meta (2 t3 com drops in enemy bases at 15 minutes) everyone just starts to rage. Or my personal favorite it's always air players fault (usually when things are scouted and you're still in the middle of the map with no aa or shield 🤡🤡)

    • So all maps should be un predictable and complete chaos? These maps are played because they remove many of the variables that more dynamic maps offer. This makes it much easier for the casual players and noobs. Are they better or worse? Both, they are perfect maps and what makes them perfect also makes them suck.

      @nickcrispino6575@nickcrispino6575 Жыл бұрын
    • @@nickcrispino6575 Did I miss something about supcom or are we back in the era of AoE maps where you have to explore the fog of war to find your boars? You zoom out and like magic you have a quick understanding of how the map layout is. Nothing unpredictable about it. Are they better or worse? Worse. Much worse. Infinitely worse. I'm only 1100-1200 rating myself so I'm pretty casual and I've utterly detested gap maps since I first played a few rounds on them (since nobody let me join lobbies of cool maps without proper games played history).
