Nothing would look better than how you built this. I grew up in family of builders and my husband and I built three houses. I know what goes into building a structure. You are an amazing builder and finish your projects so well. Right down to the duck house!
It looks amazing with the changes to the original graveled area, the new planter boxes, hanging baskets and the renovated pondside decking. What an asset to the value of your property, and just a lovely place to relax in the evenings, watching your chickens and ducks. ❤

You’ve added a large extra room in my view, and you will probably spend most of the summer out of doors enjoying your beautiful garden and pool with the animals close by. It might seem a lot when looked at like that on paper, but surely every penny well spent and you’re going to get many years of use for you, your family and friends to enjoy. It can only add more value to the cottage, wether you meant to or not, its a winner. Well done it’s gorgeous.
Oh I know, the moments to just sit out there in evenings, after dinner. Or have dinner out there, if you can due to all the animals that may come around! Lol!

It's funny as after the last video we were both discussing how much it would have cost. It is a large bespoke pergola but we were not far from guessing your figures. If you had had to get it made by someone else it would have been closer to 5k with the things you had to take into account (ie your gutter). Thank you for putting this video together. We found it very interesting. Love your craftmanship too.

You have engineered this pergola far better than an off the shelf product. in the states your project would have cost around 4,500 dollars including labor. There is no doubt this will outlast any off the shelf product. Thanks Peter for sharing with us to fun to miss this series.

DIY is always less expensive than buying. However some DIY projects are terrible eyesores, I saw a “coral rock grotto” beside a pool in Florida once that looked like a cement mixer had collided with a load of small stones and tossed up the loads in a pile in this guys back yard. It would take hours with a really big Jack hammer to erase that disaster. That is why I love watching Peter. First he is a terrific craftsman, neat, precise, orderly and works with a plan. Second he is so creative, case in point the duck house. Thirds he is fearless, case in point, the massive barn doors. I do love DIY, good DIY. Thank you Peter for the numbers, that was interesting.

Absolutely worth it considering the size and esthetic as compared to "ready made". I actually thought it was probably 2000-2500 Euros. That poly carb was much more expensive than some of the timber. You have a structure to be so proud of and saved a bundle too. Mind you, your labour is priceless.😁😆😄😃
Actually if I was to do again, I wouldn't use the poly, it was wasted on this project, should have used the corregated clear plastic instead and a third of the price!! Thank you

We bought a kit of 4 tall posts and arches last year in the UK, nearly £700 plus help to put it in! You'd a fab job and its better quality than any kit! Enjoy xx

After each creative project, I always analyze it to see if it would have been smarter just to buy the premade items available, and almost always, it would have given us a less satisfactory outcome at an increased price. If you love what you're creating, that's an even greater benefit, and I can't imagine you doing such beautiful and meticulous work, Peter, if you didn't have a love for creating. This was such a satisfying project for us to watch and I'm so impressed with the final product.
