Ubuntu Vs Zorin OS | Which is the Best Linux Distro? (For 2022)
I wanted to find out if Zorin OS is really that good and even better than Ubuntu as some say. So I installed both Ubuntu and Zorin OS on the same machine and started using them both for all my day to day tasks.

After 2 weeks of playing with these two fantastic distributions, comparing them side by side in every aspect. I can say Zorin OS is really one of a kind operating system. It is impressive. But I also found out that people use Ubuntu more than Zorin or any other distribution, because Ubuntu has a trump card up its sleeve that actually forces you to like it more. It’s crazy.
The war between Ubuntu and Zorin OS was really interesting.
So let’s jump right in and see how Ubuntu and Zorin OS compare against each other in performance, User interface, software department, usability, stability and finally see which of these 2 is the best Linux distribution for you. Ubuntu or Zorin OS.
I find Ubuntu, Zorin, POP, and Mint are all similar and great. Mint is where I've landed for now, but I love all of them. We're lucky to have so many great alternatives to Micro$oft
That's the beauty of open source :)
I Use Kodachi Secure OS a FORK of XUBUNTU with a GREAT SECURITY DASHBOARD!!!
@@kevinlsims7330 I'll have to investigate! Thank you
@iminyourwalls I use a fork of a fork called Kodachi Secure OS
I was going to say their theme / menu style looks very Mint like.
nice video. zorin was the distro that fully converted me to linux. while im on endeavour OS now i will always have love for zorin and its design
@@Arnt91 that’s a very fair point, and honestly i don’t like their bundled software very much either but i do like how it’s arch if it just worked out of the box and you didn’t feel like building it from the ground up lol. and yes. the extremely customizable install also helps a lot in that regard. can’t even really say the same about manjaro these days, their devs are trash
@@simba703 It changed from Zorin 15.3 to Zorin 16, didn’t it? Version 16 supports Flatpack and others now?
I just found this video. I am relatively new to Linux. I paid for the "top tier" Zorin OS so that I could change up the look of the desktop more easily. Currently dual-booting with Windows 10 on a computer with 16GB RAM. Cannot upgrade the Windows side to Win 11 because my processor is not compatible. I did have a bit of trouble getting online in Zorin as I access the internet via a USB WiFi adapter with a Realtek chip. But I did my research and got to play in the terminal, too. Works like a charm now. I really like Zorin so far. I recommend it for newbies.
I currently use macOS, but I always recommend other developers, whether they have been mac or Windows users, give Zorin OS a try for better or even the first understanding of Linux. I even sometimes recommend it to non-dev users, it's really simple and easy to use. And I have several times told the story of the Zorin brothers to my team, of how they developed the system and why they did it, to encourage, and compared them to the Wright brothers, who invented the airplane. I have used several Linux distros, Ubuntu, Fedora, Manjaro and some not so much famous ones, but I settled on Zorin OS.
Wright brothers did not invented the airplane, Santos Dumont
I use Zorin on my desktop and MacOS on my laptop. MacOS has so many annoying things about it that I am not going to go into it. But the M1/M2 chips are absolutely special and it is hard for me to recommend anything other than a Macbook for anybody wanting a quality laptop because of that. It is insane the amount of performance you get for how thin and light a Macbook is and you get to keep awesome battery life. In short Mac hardware is amazing but I find the software lacking. (Why is there no option to have the Dock dodge windows instead of always autohide!!!)
I am using Zorin OS since last 4 years - its extremely good alternative to Windows yet working with the Linux Ubuntu flavour. Thanks to the developers.
what is the difference between the pro edition is core edition good enough?
@@depreza68 The pro edition includes some preinstalled applications for professional tasks such as video and audio editing, those apps are tested and adjusted by the Zorin Team to make sure they work well in Zorin OS, and you can contact them for aftersale support if you encounter any issues when using them. If you’re not in those fields, for example you only wish to do some office work, browse the web, or for programming, then you don’t need them. The core edition is more suitable for your needs and free to adjust (less worrying about breaking the system).
Nicely explained continue for better future. U are best explainer
Been using Zorin exclusively for the last 6 months or so. It is easily the best linux distro for long term Windows users to start off with.
@MD FAHIM I think so
@MD FAHIM yes it is, I use visual studio code on zorin, eveything works
@MD FAHIM for development u better test it via googling.. from my experience "general linuxx" centos Ubuntu etc better for development
yeah it's not bad
Tried Mint and Zorin....Mint was better.
I like the Zorin type of interface, from the time I used it on Windows 95. But I love the Ubuntu interface since Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, for me it is slightly more efficient :)
You can customize Ubuntu to look like Windows 95. Mine looks like MacOS and no one can tell.
There's an update for zorin 16.2 which has even better tweaks and the windows effects, zorin is one of a kind of distro, on all distros I have tried, never had a single problem with zorin, is beautiful, fast, extremely easy to work
Awesome video! Thank you!
Zorin OS Pro with provided macOS theme works very well on my touchscreen tablet x86-64 PC, a Panasonic FZ-G1 MkIII. The best user experience (UX) I've seen for Linux on a touchscreen tablet, minimal UX rough edges. Make sure enable gnome title pane for chrome so that you can finger drag chrome windows as expected (there's a gnome issue and solution about it in their gitlab, GNOME/mutter/-/issues/1603, "Use system title bar and borders" in Chrome settings.
Thanks for your sharing. I've an old touchscreen convertible laptop, and I'm considering to have Linux on it too, but there's so few references on KZhead. The forum threads found by Google searches are mostly old.
I used Zorin 16.1 for a month. I am using from a long time. It has a great UI, which makes it unique. But I have to move to Ubuntu because this version takes more time to boot and the newest version gives some errors related to machine. But as we know, for daily work Zorin is the best OS. Well for newcomers Zorin the best choice. We can also use Pop Os too. It has a unique look and also simple to use.
for me zorin was really slow and I didn't like it while Ubuntu was just the way its supposed to be - really fast
@@ababa9668 If your Zorin OS is slow, i recommend trying zorin os lite then. Its made for slower PCs
Biggest flaw in Zorin is it is slow to update to the latest Ubuntu LTS. They are still running on 20.04 even though 24.04 is less than a year away. By the time Zorin gets to 22.04 Ubuntu will only be 6 months or so away from 24.04. I understand staying 6 months or so behind for the bugs to be worked out in the latest LTS before they move over but being 1.5 years behind is pretty bad. But I do love the support for Snaps and Flatpaks right out of the box with no configuration. I also am not a fan of the stock Ubuntu look.
Zorin is the the OS that finally got me off windows, I tried other linux distros like Mint but had issues but Zorin just worked from the second I installed it to now nearly a year later barely had to do anything to have it function how I like it's my default recommendation to people interested in leaving windows for linux.
Zorin is the few distros where is only install and forget, even if u never worked with Linux before, you will do whatever you want with it, without any issue, this distro comes if I'm not mistaken from Ireland, land of it
Zorin is a revamped Ubuntu. It uses a modified Dash to panel and Arc menu. My preferred set up. I prefer the traditional setup.
Zorin is the only distro I've tried that is slick and modern like a commercial OS. Everything else looks old and frumpy. No need to pay for the Pro version. You can arrange the taskbar to look similar to Win11, Mac or Chrome OS
As someone moving to Linux from Windows, Zorin 15.0 was my best friend. it wasn't my first, I tried Elementary OS first, but It wasn't meant for me, I've been using Zorin for 3 1/2 years now, I'll probably move to something different soon, but Zorin is probably the best operating system for those wanting to switch from windows
Did u get into another os???
Have you tried the newest Zorin version? And what kind of Zorin? Zorin Lite, Zorin Educational, Zorin Pro or Zorin Core?
Yes! I've recommended zorinOS to people for ages. It truly is one of the most polished and well put together linux distro for people switching from windows to linux!
Very true! Good comment. And if you don‘t like the file manager Zorin comes with out of the box, have a look at Dolphin or other Software.
Can you compare Zorin with MX Linux next? I plan to switch to one of these for my office PC when Windows 10 ends it's life in 3 years
Can you compare opensuse with fedora? both rpm-based distros?
Hey, really nice video, im going to switch from win10 and i want to learn codeing along with learning little bit more about linux, which one i should choose?
Zorin is based on Ununtu, so almost every website or webforum for Ubuntu helps you with your questions of Zorin. And there is a webforum from Zorin as well.
I went with Zorin. For a few days, my wife wasn't even aware she was using Zorin and not Windows! It's what Windows should be, without the costs and privacy issues.
Bro, plz make a video about things to do after installing kali linux🙏
I've been using zorin os since february and Works good
Can you make a video on zorin os vs Linux mint
I've been using Linux Mint for years; and on an old notebook I installed the Lite version of Zorin OS. I thought it was so good that I gave the Core version a try; and I must say that it is not as good as the Lite, although it seems crazy. There is more software in the repositories and the Lite version is more customizable than the Core; so on my main machine I reinstalled Linux Mint.
Mint 21 has lots of bugs won't recommend and comparing to zorin is an ugly distro
@@Viggen66 It works fine for me, at least for what I use it for.
I think with Ubuntu part of it that there was a time when it was the undisputed king, and now a lot of people are just used to it and even knew people who aren't there's a huge community of people to help them if they're stuck.
Weird, they didn't feel "premium" at all to me. At least when you start trying to get actual work done in the file explorer, or with windows or open app management. The taskbar just kind of fails at hopening a ton of windows. I really h8t3d the thmbnail window previews on teh taskbar, and then it switches to a vertical text list when it becomes too many. Just always use the text list. But no way to change it. I ended up reformatting them both eventually and going back to Windows7.
Zorin is good, but I had issues with sound . Kinetic Kudu has newer features. Also better for gaming. Zorin Windows app support no needed.
did you use desktop or laptop? asking this because ux and performance is different on both
I love Zorin OS so much that I'm a donator of the project but development is slow and it takes ages to release new versions(plus the other comments about old Gnome versions is a big deal, so many missing performance improvements). If they could integrate new versions quicker it would be my number 1 distro for sure. But to release Zorin OS 17 based on Ubuntu 22.04 áfter Ubuntu 23.10 is released(I think Zorin 17 is planned for november) is lagging behind a lot.
That's on purpose.
Zorin's way of monetizing is way smarter than how Ubuntu does it. Love both of them, but I'm going to switch to Zorin soon
I got Zorin and I gotta say, if you love Ubuntu you're definitely going to love this
I use a Mac. So, ubuntu with little customisation is similar to Mac. And with 22.10 it feels better than a Mac. Pop os is also really good. It is stable and has no issues as a creative workstation. haven't tried Zorin yet.
Try the newest Zorin version from booting from a fast USB memory stick. Mac software Balena Etcher is needed to burn the Zorin ISO file to the USB memory stick. Start with Zorin Educational and if you have time, create another memory stick with the Lite Version of Zorin 16 to see the different Desktop Managers and requirements for your Hardware. Lite is for older Hardware, but uses a different Desktop.
Can you do a video on how to install zorin os besides Windows while my hard is MSR
Do a video on IDE Code Editors for Linux
In zorin os support python script and .netframe work softwares and ananaconda softwares, editing softwares and Microsoft office will works . In Indian .exe format supporting zorin os and Ubuntu os.
I am using Ubuntu. I like this 22.04 performance and looks. The only problem is, i can get the battery backup up to 1.5hr only whereas windows are getting 3 hr for the same laptop.
Install tlp. It will help you squeeze bit more juice.

Please do a video on installing Windows games on Linux
After distro-hopping for awhile, I have finally settled on MX Linux.
Zorin OS still use Gnome 3.38? is that right?
Is it possible to install adobe suite and some mac only apps on these os
Zorin os pro is definitely worth it for the extended customization options and it is supporting a good cause while youre at it
unfortunately. I am a computer graphic designer and when it comes to the best desktop environment for Linux, KDE Plasma is the best choice. I don't know about Cinnamon because I haven't used it. Unfortunately, Gnome cannot cope with support for graphics tablets and Digimed drivers can only be handled in the terminal. Kde has everything that Gnome doesn't. So my choice is Feren OS.
After some practice on terminal commands, I can put Linux into real productive tools. And the greatest merit is most of the useful softwares are already in the system and they are =FREE= ! I use MX Linux in 80% of the time for work, study and steam gaming
In the UI department , I think it should be 1-0 for Zorin , as in Zorin you can get Ubuntu layout plus many others and it’s more customisable . Actually the UI is the main selling point for Zorin .
The Ubuntu layout is not free in Zorin. So you could just as easily say Ubuntu 1 and Zorin 0 if you prefer that layout (Also Zorin is ugly in that layout IMO) Coming from a Zorin Pro user
@@Rolltide101x you have to fix your eye.
yes.. Userinterface is the main selling point here.. and userinterface does matter a lot.
I'll go with Ubuntu 22.10 which is way updated than Zorin 16.2 still used old Gnome.
I just love this guy
Help me! I followed your video on 20 things to do after installing zorin and after doing the TLP thingy for better battery life, my notebook lost half its battery life! How to undo tlp please?
can i put this zorin os on a old imac with g4 processor
Can i install video editor like wondershare filmora and Adobe on these distros... Please reply 🔥
Try davinci
What u use linux gui???
Use Zorin for a few days and it kept crashing Kodi and one laptop screen glitched a lot. I did not have either problem when I installed Ubuntu
any software, this touch my heart i must try this os
Every time I see Zorin I can't help but think "this is Xandros for modern year", It look amazin but I can't help but wonder how long until it succumbs to the same issues as Xandros. Ubuntu isn't going anywhere, as stated in the video it is a well developed and solid distro that has been a leading distro for about two decades. The side by side I would really love to see is Ubuntu vs. Suse.
and Ubuntu vs. Feren OS
Ubuntu used to be the distro I choose to be my daily driver for years, but eventually some of their decisions made me regret using it. Nowadays I'm using Fedora, but since they removed the support of essential codecs for my work, then I'll switch to another distribution. Which one? openSUSE, maybe? Arch?
I've been using openSUSE for the last few years and I'm really satisfied.
Yeah I would recommend you checkout openSUSE as Felix suggested.
@@guilherme5094 Major issues with OpenSUSE are the patterns, they make it so hard for you to remove basic apps and they will come back eventually during an update. The tabooing or blocking do not mitigate the issues it can generate by the time like dependency errors due to such packages...
I Use Kodachi Secure OS To Run My Media Server Since The End Of 7! 10 &11 are Spyware and Ubuntu has started following in their footsteps!
Automatically installing the codecs would result in legal problems for the Fedora team because Fedora is based in the US. If I remember correctly, the codecs are still available to install manually. It would be nice if they added the option to install them during install as some other distros do, but that too may cross the legal line.
sir please make video about best offline game for Linux with download code
Prefer Zorin, but now my choice is either Zorin / Opensuse or Mint..... Not sure which one to use as Workstation
I tried Zorin and Mint, but ended with Feren OS due to night color filter, stability, looks, wifi drivers and better choice of internet browsers
Which is best for gaming?
I would go with Ubuntu. I like GNOME and I found Ubuntu synergizes with my work and education better.
I'm building a gaming pc soon and i plan to use Zorin OS
Ubuntu for me 🙋🏼♀️ , since a long time
Booth os is on systemd. For me zorin iz painfull slow to boot from flipping the switch to lock screen and after input password there goes more than 30sec to boot to desctop.I use Devuan much faster to boot and not kill itself with systemd bs ram usage etc.
Compare "manjaro kde vs opensuse tumbleweed kde"

How to use zorin os with LUKS encryption
Actually for me the "Best Linux Distro" is Feodra MATE-Compiz Spin. But that's for me! This sort of "Which is Best" is sort of silly, what is best for you is not always best for me etc.
Do we have to pay every year or month to use zorin os pro
LOL! No
I have been running both OS’s for a while and Zoran actually a smoother OS Lite and not bloated..
I've tried Zorin OS and it's a good Linux distro for people who wants to keep things simple and get the job done. Unfortunately, it isn't for me. I like having a lot of options and tweaking my system to best suit me. I ended up with MX Linux. It's fast, stable, and options galore! The default look of MX Linux might not appeal to some but it's easy to tailor it to your liking. It runs so snappy and includes so many custom tools. The package installer even lets you change to custom kernels such as Xanmod and Liquorix easily. 💪
Please anyone help me i am so confused which is good for programming and app development Ubuntu or zorin or kali
What did you find, actually any Linux is good if you know your way around. I only once had a weird issue while using pop os but on later 2nd try it got fixed
too bad that zorinOS has a really old GNOME version built into it... so many performance improvements of GNOME itself are just lost through it. rest of it though seems to be pretty neat!
I've used both as well. I've always liked Zorin OS the most as my favorite Linux. About 3 years ago is when I found out I like Zorin the most. Ubuntu is more like Mac OS which I don't like. Zorin is more like Windows. Of course if you pay for it Zorin OS does have a Mac OS look as well, but again have to pay for it.
Zorin for sure, and after 5 years i think Zorin and other easy distro may became more popular than Windows itself.
It seems burning of cd/dvd is no longer ubuntu default feature .
i was on your website yesterday. zorin is so much better than linux. cuz linux messed up my computer so much. zorin has been working so much better. i had no problems with zorin what so ever. zorin os has a lot of good apps. it even has my favorite game pinall space cadet. and so far so good. it didn't mess up my computer which is good. i like your video so much. and i agree that zorin os is better. i had to use my usb flash drive to download zorin os. and it worked good. great tutorial

Zorin is designed to replace Windows & Mac OS for NON Linux users. Ubuntu is designed for Linux users. Not comparable. E.g. if I replace Windows PC in a business with Ubuntu the IT Dept. would be overwhelmed with user help desk traffic. Not so with Zorin. Get it?

I m using zorin now
Old Ubuntu used to be the best, now it is mess when comes to drive, installation, bugs etc. I use only for server.
My issues is that zoroin os takes forever to get updates. For example it takes 3 years for a new zoroin os to be released. This means that a zoroin os version is always an Ubuntu version behind.
Is there any disadvantage of having an previous Ubuntu, for instance latest zorin 16.2 has the kernel of Ubuntu 22.10, so is perfectly secured
@@Viggen66 well it's debatable however it some senses it can be a pro and a con. For example if your a person who does not care about getting the latest features from Ubuntu then you wouldn't mind using zorin os. Also a pro is that since it's older it's more stable because it's already been worked out. however if your like me you don't want to feel left out on new features. Such as gnome 43. Not to mention that your better off using zorin os 16 and not the 16.2 version. If it's based on 22.10 then it's not an lts version. Meaning that it will only be support for 9 months and then you will have to either find a way to upgrade or reinstall the next version of zorin os. Update it's actually based on 22.04. so yeah you should be safe to use it for a few years. I was going to say it would be dumb for them to use a non lts Version.
@@darkiceywolf2953 only the kernel is 22.04 to support latest hardware, which is the same as latest Ubuntu, it was my mistake I'm sorry, base software is 20.04 which is alot more stable than latest Ubuntu, so you get the best of both worlds.

ain't is funny how there exist both these type of people
I have never used any OS other than Windows since 1995. What are the benefits of using Linux over Windows? Can a newbie like me use it?
Yes, the biggest hurdle is getting a version of Linux installed. You have to download an ISO of a distro. Then flash it to a pendrive. Then get your computer to run and install the distro onto a computer. Now is a good time to go with Linux if you are on decent computer that can't upgrade to Win 11.

you mean distro? pretty much all of them are light weight, for ease of use, go with any mainstream debian based distro like ubuntu, pop or mint
Zorin os lite or go for xfce based distros
Just installed Zorin on my old 32-bit Netbook with Celeron. Zorin 15.3 performance is pretty comparable to Windows 7 but web browsing Windows 7 hands down is way better. I can’t even watch youtube with Zorin. Stutter and no sounds. about:config tweak did nothing. Those with 32-bit machine please just stick with old Windows. Windows 7 is solid. But those with 64-bit machine or newer you guys should give Zorin a try. The DE is great and beautiful. Extremely good for beginner.
