A scientist who has recently lost his wife, Dr. David Banner, finds himself in the heart of a catastrophic experiment. As a result, anytime Banner becomes overly angry or stressed, he transforms into the Incredible Hulk, a gigantic green monster with superhuman power and wrath. To avoid being found, Banner leads a nomadic life, moving from town to town in quest of a cure and offering assistance where he can, all the while dodging the prying eyes of journalist Jack McGee, who seeks to expose Banner and the Hulk. "Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." He is the Incredible Hulk.

  • Such a great show the late Bill Bixby was fantastic and Lou Ferrigno was great as were all the actors in the hulk series were great The answer to why they keep hitting on my face is because David went underground and you meet the most unsavory characters underground. Being a man of science wasn’t that great in hand-to-hand combat so that’s probably why I kept getting hit the episode where he learned martial arts should’ve gave him some kind of tiny edge either way rest in peace, Bill Bixby, and cheers to a fantastic show.

    @walterlaux1207@walterlaux12075 ай бұрын
  • David Banner getting beaten up, almost every week, is something I’ve always called one of the ‘silly cliches’ that’s necessary to make the series work. Yes, Banner is living life ‘underground’ to avoid being identified, and yes, that brings him into more contact with creeps and punks than the normal person would have. That said… Banner is always trying to avoid trouble (as opposed to a cop, a soldier or a spy). How many times has an average adult, who is •trying HARD to lay low and avoid trouble• gotten into a fistfight - in his entire life? If you or I had suffered being in a fistfight (as an adult), after the first one or two instances, we would do what was necessary to avoid a repeat; move to a cabin in the middle of nowhere? Migrate outside the U.S.? Join a peaceful religious cult, to take advantage of their ‘power in numbers?’ The reason that Banner can’t do that, is that we viewers, and the show creators, want there to be a show, and want to see the Hulk. For the U.S. of the late 70s / early 80s, to be the sort of society in which an adult (a non-criminal, non-gang member, non-drug user) who wanted to avoid trouble, were beaten up dozens of times, no matter where he lived or where he moved to… Well, that requires a large suspension of disbelief. It placed David Banner into an other-worldly setting, an alternate universe in which possible violence occurs much more frequently than in the world we know. (Yes, it’s possible also to live in a fantasy world that is too much the other way - a world in which violence never happens, almost never happens, or in which male humans don’t have an instinct for potential violence lurking just below the surface.)

    • Can a WIMP have enough control to fly a 747 like David before he changes? Can a WIMP OUTWIT AND OVERCOME CROOKED COPS, like David being set him up for murder that he didn't commit in "ESCAPE FROM LOS SANTOS?" Can a WIMP maintain control and match wits with some NUT holding him prisoner on a private island, trying to kill a person like David FOR SPORT? How about in THE NINE HOURS episode in which David was trying to buy time stalling hitmen who was trying to kill a federal witness, AN OLD HOOD? Think about these episodes before you act disrespectfully!!

    • I think that comes from the fact like Elaina said "It won't kill because David Banner won't kill" whereas Frye's Creature was capable of murder due to Del Frye's inherent personality

    • The idea that the Creature never kills people (always throws them over furniture, never directly punches them as the Hulk), is one of the intentionally-chosen "design elements" of the series. If the Creature were a real-life phenomenon, a person being provoked into a state of rage, combined with having the Hulk's strength, would have resulted in the people who confronted Banner, being killed many times. If the show's creators had gone that route, it would have done several things: 1) It would have turned Banner and his creature from a 'tragic hero' into something else, something less sympathetic. (If the Hulk had, for example, beaten 10 people to death, on 10 separate occasions, after they had instigated a fight with Banner, then a) Banner still would not have been able to prove that these killings were self-defense or accidents; b) it would have rendered the Creature (in-universe) something like a rabid dog that had to be shot as the best way to protect other innocent people (as opposed to him being a hero in a monster's body, continually being misunderstood by observers who always missed part of the story.) (We saw a bit of this in the 2003 'Hulk' feature film, in which that Hulk went after U.S. soldiers (in a tank) with sufficient force to kill them. ...It's been many years since I saw that film; I think the film is ambiguous on whether those soldiers were, in fact killed.) 2) After a certain number of people got killed, it would begin to have a different impact on us, the viewing audience: Isn't it different if your audience is rooting for a •tragic hero• who only kills in self-defense (like Logan in the X-Men films) than a person who allows himself to enter one dangerous situation after another, knowing that the likely outcome is that somebody else will get killed? (The people who beat up David Banner did deserve to get hit back, and to get badly hurt; did they deserve to die? A few, perhaps, but in most cases, no.) There are several episodes where the story •plays with• the Creature actually killing someone: - The episodes "Of guilt, models and murder" and "The psychic" posit a witness who tells us that the Creature kills someone. But, it's later revealed that someone else was the killer. - "A solitary place" gives us a scenario where the creature comes very close to actually killing an innocent person (the hulk throws a tire at a jeep, causing it to stop suddenly, and the driver's throat is injured as his neck is thrown against the steering wheel. The injury causes the driver's windpipe to be blocked. The quick action of a surgeon, who had been with Banner during the episode, saves his life.) - The episode "Dark side" has Banner experimenting with a drug which backfires: We get an 'evil' version of Banner, and an 'evil' Hulk during the first Hulk-out, in which this version of Banner's creature comes dangerously close to murder. A recurring motif of the series, is that Banner constantly dreads the potential outcome of the creature killing, or doing permanent injury to someone (which should be a concern of anyone in the real world who isn't a thug - you enter a physical conflict with someone, you don't know how it'll end. Anyone can kill anyone.) Note that this is one of the big ways that the TV series with Bill Bixby, is "Psychological Drama" rather than "Super hero action / Marvel Movie." In the former case, you'd be concerned that you could actually kill someone who didn't deserve it; in the latter case, not so much.
