I get the MVP camaraderie, but can't help thinking that he doesn't get past the "durable" fighters. I always support the fighters with skill/flair, but they tend to come unstuck against those with immovable chins/relentless cardio/takedown. I guess that's what you were referring to with the positive matchups comment. P.S. Call back to Dan's Veronica schooling on Brian Ebersole's chest hair - he was my favourite fighter for time, been a while since we've seen an effective cartwheel kick in the octagon.

I think Chito doesn't have the IQ or ability to make adjustments in big fights. He looked completely bewildered against Cory and it wasn't much different against O'Malley.
If the gameplan was to stay at range and fight Seans pace then Perillo put his house on Sean. To beat Sean you have to get on the inside and make him work (box, elbow, knee, clinch, wrestle etc.), risk getting KOed coming in but thats better odds than playing Seans game and taking brain damage for 5 rounds imo. Make him work from the get go, he is a fast twitch muscle guy and will get tired.
Let’s be honest, he is a can crusher.
Sean O'Malley has just reached another level with his timing, feints and cutting angles with his footwork. Every time Chito tried to get on the inside, Sean moved away or tagged him. After he while he was just bewildered and knew he was getting KOd if he tried too hard.
O'Malley is just that good

They really tried to let Burns die in there and I don’t get why. Reminded me of the O’Malley sterling fight. Much less damaging shots and a more active defense but they stopped that one meanwhile Gilbert is bleeding all over the place and barely moving and we're just watching.

Take nothing away from Sean but I wonder if the occasion got to Chito. Like Dan said, he had a few moments where he went for it then went back into his shell. We've saw plenty freeze when getting a title shot. I think he had more to give. Another great show though. Had sore cheeks from laughing at the end. Good stuff.

DSP's problem wasn't staff it's that he has no defensive capability on his feet. he can't move his head. Dustin landed 80% of his significant strikes. Poirier probably only got to fight on his feet for like 60 seconds total and he got the KO. It was always going to end like that. You had the wrong side. Every other MMA fighter picked Poirier. It was an enormous mismatch.

Ngannou didn't look comfortatable at all. I don't know what the f everyone is talking about. He was trying to parry everything Joshua did. If Joshua even blinked Ngannou tried to parry it and he overparried down to his hip with his right hand constantly. You can see in it clearly in the second knockdown, he tried to parry the jab and missed which left him open for the right hand. Super tense and nervous type of fighting, not comfortable at all 🤷♂️

Sergei Pavlovich is ranked 3 in UFC heavyweight and is doing great with horrendous striking and not much else. In a lower weight class Benoit Saint-Denis this past weekend had somewhat success with the art of bar fighting.
It's St Denis's in your face style and weird decision making that flusters his opponents. He's also a skilled grappler. The HW division is just weak. And Pavlovich is a big guy who's explosive and powerful. That's more than enough to succeed.
