    • No, I don't think so actually. I really like Benoit but I think there's too much hype built around him right now. His skills won't be on Dustin's level and he doesn't have the experience. He's merely 6 years in combat sports all combined. I'll be happy to eat my words though since I like both fighters a lot. Just trying to be realistic. And there is a really good chance that Dustin just sleeps him.

  • If BSD wants to stand and fight he loses. If BSD makes up his mind to grapple and ground and pound he wins. The thing about the UFC fighters is you can't make money betting them assuming that guys who have a clear path on the ground will do it if they can also think they can stand and bang. There's that monetary incentive to throw hands (the most clear example is Gaethje but you also see it in guys like Gilbert Burns) that most guys will not override. You can't trust it until a guy has shown he will commit to it.

    @posmoo9790@posmoo97902 ай бұрын
    • Logic would dictate that he goes to the ground quickly, especially when you know that the ground is his best asset. What worries me is that he promised a war in his call-out and with Ariel Helwani, against DP, it could indeed be dangerous.

I did well but I learned the hard way you can't depend on guys doing what you think they should do unless they are guys who always do that one thing, and if the thing you think they should do is already baked into the line just stay away. I'm might put a bit on DP ko/TKO in rds 3 &4 if that's what DSB promised in Helwani.

  • 4:00 cross guard is incredibly useful in situations like catching kicks in smaller gloves which is why is not used in boxing. Less say big George’s second career. But Archie Moore used it well. You seemed confused why Dustin doesn’t get leg kicks… there ya go. They get caught bc his guard. He has to cross guard bc he’s so square and takes legs kicks otherwise. It proves the worthiness of the cross guard for him objectively. Besides, the Philly shell is just a variant of cross guard. Boxing loves cross guard evolution.

Has Benoit ever faced a southpaw would be my question. If not it’s different fighting a skilled Left like DP. The body kick won’t be there for him. DP needs to kick that calf 5 times and he’s gold

  • Great analysis. Thank you. Dustin is a legend and as a french fan of BSD, i really love Dustin as a fighter and human being. I would suggest 5 points to take into account to know more about BSD : First, YES the only BSD loss was against Dos Santos. It was in middle weight where BSD was 8 kg below Dos Santos because this is not his natural weight. It was a short notice fight to enter the UFC outside of his weight division to get the contract signed. More over, Dos Santos has been tested positive 3 months after that fight. In every normal country, this fight would have been reclassified in a no contest but as the fight was in Abu Dhabi the rule is not applied by this country. So no loss of BSD in the light weight division and all wins by Ko or submission. Second point, Special forces he was and special forces come. One point to had in this 5 round matchup against Poirier. A five rounds fight should not be a problem for BSD , as you need to be a cardio machine to get into special forces. As a former parachutist, i saw the commando tests in Pau. In one of the first steps of the selections, you need to run 30km in less than 4 hours with a backpack (11kg), army boots (1 kg each), your shotgun (around 5kg), water...Very tough and selective test. Most of the guy did not finish eaten by Lactic acid and exhausted. So i am confident on his cardio. This is also the reason why when you look at his fights he puts pressure the entire fight and finished all lightweight fights. He is confident about his cardio, knows it very well because he has already push it to the limits in special forces. Third, i don't think that there is such a gap between top 5 to 12 fighters and historical top 5 fighters in the lightweight division, the reason is simple, top 5 are AMINLY fighting between each other within money fights since years. So the chance of top5 to top12 fighters to enter the game has been very rare. So we don't know right now if the gap is that big and it could be the opposite. Top 5 are now older fighters and the new generation may come to renew the lightweight division. This is something that Dana White has probably identified as a weakness in the division and he must now renew the blood with a new squad in the lightweight division. Fourth, BSD at 70 kg enters the cage at 82kg the day of the match-up. So he is big and powerfull for the division. Last and not the least : Daniel Voirin, BSD's headcoach, has been in the game for a long time (Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, Tarek Safiedine,...) and he is a muay thai coach specialist. BSD will start the fight with a special Daniel's fight plan. Very excited to see how BSD will deliver this strategy approach into the first mn of the fight. Daniel's game plans are always very pertinent and accurate. Please see BSD vs Bonfim fight (Game plan : kill his arm with 10 middle kicks), against Frevola (you see in videos before the fight) that the head kick out of grappling has been worked a lot... So let's see what Daniel will propose this time...

    • Great insight!! All very good points but myself I am rooting for Poirier. Poirier creates a pace that causes everyone to fade regardless of their conditioning because he makes it ugly and the grit ends up being too much, Hooker, Chandler. But if anyone can handle that level of grit like Poirier it is definitely BSD. This is a great test for him

    • But...has he ever had to spend 25 minutes in a cage with someone with anywhere even close to Dustin's boxing skills? Such an interesting fight. I think Dustin's boxing takes over late round 2 if BDP doesn't wear him alllll the way down by then.

      @caseyschoenleber1760@caseyschoenleber17602 ай бұрын
    • Not afraid about his cardio. When you are in special forces you know your body perfectly and if you need to slow down. Special forces in France are mainly linked to mental toughness and cardio machine. We call them « skinny cat ». They are not big in terms of muscle but can absorb long range of exhausting efforts such as running 30km in less than 4 ours with around 18kg on their shoulder. This example is the commando test of the second day of selection. I think that the weakness of BSD is that he can get to aggressive on his feet and forgetting to bring Dustin on the ground, looking for brawling…then with Dustin it’s not gone make it. The risk for Justin is his lead leg, In the game plan I am pretty sure that BSD will try to break it (the game plane) and then move the fight to the ground. But what an intriguing matchup. Love to see that.

  • A huge stat that people tend to glance over is age. As we are seeing now, the age of 35 is the age of decline. I truly hope Dustin can win but he got knocked out in his last fight and that was the first time he's been knocked out. It just happened to Volk at the ripe age of 35 when he also previously got knocked out by Islam when he was 34. Dustin was also 34 when getting knocked out by Justin and the chances of him getting knocked out again are pretty high. I hope he pulls this one out but the age thing is a true indicator of decline especially when fighting against really good young fighters.

  • I think Dustin needs the fight. I'm tired of him doing the same people and never jumping around rank. Look at what Sean Strickland did and how much respect he got from fighting lower ranked fighters.
