Quick video of the build on my one wheeled trailer for hauling dirt bikes. Decided to put this video together after I had it built and wish I had taken more videos explaining what I did but maybe next time I’ll think ahead and make this a better video.
Thanks! Leave a comment and like the video if you think it’s cool!
Created with the #GoPro App on my iPhone.
If you like the video give me a thumbs up please! Any questions or think I should keep making videos of my projects just leave me a comment please!
Loved the video and your KDX video, you earned yourself a subscriber! Makes me want to make some videos about the rebuild I did on my '11 250XC. You should consider getting taking trail riding videos this year, I had a blast on my two trips out there from Iowa last year but I didn't find a ton of good videos on what trails to try out, just a handful of videos on specific numbered trails. I ended up staying in Nemo and riding around that area, I hope to come back sometime this year.
@@TheOutbackid if you come out this year let me know! If you like riding single track Nemo is a great hub to ride from for a couple days! If you like really hard single or nice flowy single there are a lot of good areas within 3-4 miles from Nemo Guest Ranch campground! I’ll be trying to make some riding videos this year, my GoPro session just died for good a few weeks ago, trying to decide what one I should get to replace it. Thanks for the Sub!
Hey bud, just had a question. I was looking at the video because I’m planning on building one of these myself and I noticed in one frame you had the good old U joint for the pivot point and then later a different design how come you went with the different design I’ve been trying to wrap my head around, how come you went with the design that is I’m assuming currently in use over the u joint
@@henryitsdeza5553 hey man! The U joint inspired the trailer build but it’s not capable of making a turn as sharp as my car can turn without binding. It actually doesn’t have much pivot ability so I took the idea of 2 separate pivots and expanded on it to allow far more range of motion. For my test I attached a length of rope to my hitch dragging a spare tire. Went to full left turn and made a u-turn. Then I got out and found out just how much angle I needed the trailer to be capable.
@@Blackhillslifestyle you know that makes perfect sense so unless you had a joint that can go past 90 and some manner you can’t really use the U joint
Well, I give you this, it is unique. I like it. very nice indeed.
Thanks Pat! Have a few more ideas for it, stay tuned!
That’s really clever. It would so much easier to store the trailer after use.
They're about to be rich!
Very slick setup, and I assume cheap to produce.
Not as cheap as I hoped, I think I had about $650 into it and probably 50 hours building and figuring out everything
@@Blackhillslifestyle wow, I was not expecting it to be that much....it really looks awesome though.
@@anonymousf8406 I could produce these way cheaper if I built them out of square tube. Those mandrel pipe corners cost like $40 a piece. I bought way heavier pipe then I really needed and it was about $150 for the 4” steel pipe. $100 for the wheel and tire. $80 for a fender. $100 for the trailer wheel bearing and spindle. $40 for the 6” drop hitch. $30 for paint. Custom hitch using 4 big wheel bearings, $80 for those bearings
@@Blackhillslifestyle I dont think I've ever seen that design before, but man I think it's cool. Have you looked into a patent?
This is awesome
Thank you!
nice build
Thanks Mike!
Man I am really like that! Are you planning on offering build plans? I would love to build one for an upcoming trip. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Eddie, I didn’t have any build plans for this, I really just designed and built it from a vision in my head. Each trailer would be built different depending on the wheel and tire combo you choose. Also, it would be so much easier to build one from square tubing. I just like how the round pipe looks
Very cool build! Finished product is clean and simple. What inspired it? In my case trailer storage was the big issue, and I never liked how you lose access to opening back hatch of car when using an MC carrier.
With a bike on my hitch hauler it’s like pulling a parachute. Fuel economy drops to 18 mpg pulling it straight behind the car with a super lightweight trailer with minimal rolling resistance i can still get 30-32 MPG on the interstate. Sometimes I drive 300+ miles to go pick up a new bike just because it’s the bike I want rather then settling for whatever I can find locally.
Damm cool 😎
Thank you!
Saw one like this on a concept vehicle years ago.
It works pretty well on those long trips!
nice video Bryce
Thanks!
As long as it doesn't want to hop over bumps, that seems great?
It’s really a smooth ride, even at 75-80 mph
Were you able to register this trailer? Do you have to?
Yes I have it titled and registered. In South Dakota I can get homemade trailer titles very easily. Just requires a vin form to be filled out, stamp the frame with the vin and a sheriff to inspect it.
Very cool, but I have two thoughts on this… 1. There will be a lot of rotational force on the receiver hitch due to only having one wheel. I could see it as a weak point; or at least a point that will quickly endure a lot of wear-and-tear. I think some sort of support bracket to either side of the hitch is in order. 2. Your tire choice. Really no need for an aggressively treaded tire.
Agree that there is a a good bit of rotational force on the hitch. However this is built to work with just about any 2” hitch and not built specific to any one vehicle. Also you will always be down to a single point of attachment if it’s going to be able to turn only way to have support brackets that will support the hitch itself will prevent the trailer from turning. At that point it would need a rear wheel that swivels on the back of the trailer. The main reason for the beefy rear tire is for looks. It’s not needed but neither is a lift and big aggressive tires on a Ford Focus either. It’s just what I like.
Decime cómo la subiste a la moto, y soy feliz 😅
I get the bike on the trailer with a tiny ramp for the front tire. Once in the wheel chock I lift the rear tire onto the trailer. Super easy
How do you get the bike up on it ? Just lift it ?
Just a little ramp, roll the front tire up and then lift rear tire onto trailer
How does it stay upright?
Custom built and designed hitch by myself.
How do you go about registering this…?
I’ve got the trailer titled and registered with a South Dakota home made trailer title. There’s a little process to it but it’s fairly easy.
How do you load it?
The front tire can be lifted onto the trailer or by using a small ramp. The rear is very easy to lift onto the trailer once the front is in the wheel chock.
That's fucking cool.
Thanks! Might be making another short video of it taking my KX500 to Billings and possibly picking up a new KTM! Give me a subscribe if you want to see it!
No suspension?
Nope, it rides just fine without it. I don’t run high pressure in the tire so it soaks up a lot of the bumps
The car hitch is custom made. It’s not a little 1-1/4” hitch. This car has a custom 2” receiver that mounts to where the rear crash/impact bar would be, the receiver is just hidden inside the bumper cover.

Super pointless when they have motorcycle hitch carriers. It’s just more practical , faster and less storage space. But hey , you still get a thumbs up for the video. Appreciate the content bro 💯
With the trailer I get about 7 mpg better with my 2.0L manual Ford Focus since the wind drag is so much less pulling the bike forward then hauling it sideways on a hitch rack. I’ve done it both ways plenty of times.
I wish, those hitch carriers are sketchy on small cars, lot of weight on the back compared to a trailer.
