The Intoxicating Power of Desire for Our 100th Episode w/ Trixie & Katya | The Bald & the Beautiful

On the brutal, kill-or-be-killed plains of the Serengeti, power is determined by sheer brute strength. It is measured by the breadth of one's chest, the size of one's claws, and the length of one's incisors. But in the stiflingly hot concrete jungle of Los Angeles, power is determined by the ability to sit down in very comfortable chairs, hold microphones, and talk about life's daily minutiae for approximately 45 to 60 minutes while glorious air conditioning washes over you like a cool salve for all that ails you. In this shockingly fearsome podcast arena, none are more dangerous than the world's most famously bald, gay ghouls: Trixie and Katya! Today's auditory ejaculation is our 100th episode, so bow down and worship at the altar of our auricular magnificence, you fools!

  • It really is art that David is scared of birds, yet he's in a relationship with Ms. Big Bird herself who can't see directly in front of her and caws when excited. The caw'ls are coming from inside the house.

We don't even go to the gym alone anymore bc it's safer to go as a group.

  • It is world shattering to listen to Katya talk about her dad. It really shows you how good parenting equals future mental and physical wellnes. Also, it exposed to me this awful feeling of envy and anger that bubbles up every time I listen to someone talk about their wealth or supportive upbringing. It really is a privilege, a good environment that shapes you in a strong self-standing individual. Not to say that everyone should have the same experiences, good or bad, because challenges also thoughen you up to the outside world. It is really difficult to be a parent and it is pointless to dream of a different past for themselves. I wish to achieve the kind of self-forgiveness that Katya seems to show again and again. Wonderful to witness it and to be inspired by, total self actualization.

I’m not proud of it in the least, but when my husband mentioned as a child their power got cut off for a few hours because of a mix up, I wanted to laugh, because as a child i didn’t have power for weeks, no fridge, sexual assault, neglect, drug addicted parents, CPS, removal, trauma by the boatloads. But for him, that was the worst he had experienced, even if it seemed so minor to me.

  • The part about smoking and meeting making in your life to get through tough times reminded me of one of the psychology classes I took in college about stress and coping specifically. We respond to stressors that feel as though they aren't solvable immediately so, and consequentially use many methods (i.e. prayer, substances, ticks and various habits) to distract from the cognitive dissonance created from a knowingly unsolvable or too grand of a stressor. Good stuff! Acute stressors, on the other hand, are things our brain decides that we can solve in the moment or have the means to do so! Good stuff.

  • it’s cool to hear ab katyas dad making her do sports from a young age! my parents tried to do that too but the issue is everything i tried got SOOO competitive (dance, soccer, etc.) that i stopped doing it. i’m also just not that interested in sports but i would have kept doing smth if my literal dance teacher didn’t shame me in front of the class at 11 for not wanting to compete and if the kids in the school and recreational church league teams didn’t bully me for being bad

    • I'm so sorry you had that experience :( something similar happened to me when I was a kid with gymnastics. Still now as an adult, it boils my blood when I hear about teachers or coaches shaming kids in front of the class, like you're fully in the position to make or break a kids confidence, and you choose the latter? Get in the bin.

  • Katya never disappoints with her tv/movie suggestions. I watched "Fleishman Is in Trouble" after she mentioned it and I enjoyed it so much. You will literally go through the gamut of emotions till the end... it was relatable, thought-provoking, and raw. As a mid 30's, art school grad, ex-New Yorker now living in the NJ suburbs, I needed this show so much. Thank you, Katya for the recommendation!!!!!

  • I love the level of openness Trixie had about her personal life. She doesn't tell too much, so she still has her own private life. But, she tells enough that I have watched her grow and mature over the years. It has been absolutely fascinating. Is this how all the stans feel about their obsessions? I'm not saying that's me with Trixie, but I have watched everything she has ever put out. There are so many things that she formerly couldn't stand that she is interested in now. Her routine life choices have changed. She's all into running now and is taking a break from drinking. I'm not saying there was anything wrong with her when she she first stepped into the spotlight. It's just been cool to watch her go from being in her 20s til now. She has changed a lot.

  • I live in Australia, in an area where those huge ibis birds are EVERYWHERE. I'm talking dozens surrounding my house at all times, and honestly, once you get past the appearance they can be kinda sweet. I hand feed them and they're very trusting, and their beaks don't hurt at all. Unfortunately, they're hated just because they're scavengers and sometimes jump on cafe tables knocking off plates and cutlery.

  • when i was in high school exercise was a punishment and a tool in my eating disorder's belt for torturing myself. now in my late 20s i workout to be strong and i love it. it makes me feel good and powerful. so many people view exercise as a way of punishing their body like i did, but it's not meant to be a punishment, it's a gift to yourself to just move your body. it doesn't have to be about how you look at ALL, it should mainly be about how you feel.
