Arthur's effortlessly charismatic stage entrace, the way he dances, shakes Murray's hand, kisses the woman, and waves at the crowd makes it feel like he was just so close to being an actual entertainer, if he'd only had a little better luck, his life would have gone entirely different.
More specifically, if those Wall Street yuppies didn't attack him, forcing Arthur to have no choice but to shoot them; that is when things started going downhill.
The thing is that Arthur being that relaxed was mostly his Joker's personality.
@@Madheim777 Yes, exactly. Arthur himself had a social anxiety, he was constantly under stress trying to keep his life together and not get bullied for his conditions. He is so effortlessly entertaining once he finally stops caring about his image and is literally ready to die.

I think that Joaquin is just perfect for a character like Joker.. because you can just sense from him as a person that he has some of his insecurities and vulnerability as well. The way he does interviews, how shy he is, how thoughtful and barely ever smilling or laughing. He always seems just kinda tense. He does not like to be in the public and he appears to be a very focused and dedicated person to acting. He also has a history of depression and dealing with loss since his brother died. I think that Joaquin is just one of those kinda tired or even broken individuals who are dealing with too much behind their eyes from day to day basis. Which makes him ideal adept for a character like Joker.

@@billukhan2954 joaquin is good, but you're out of your mind if you think he's better than ledger brother
@@billukhan2954They are both equally as good. The look that Director Todd Phillips had in mind of a Joker origin story about a man driven to madness after being shunned by society was nailed by Phoenix. Christopher Nolan wanted a more comic book based chaos agent Joker, who was there to break Gotham's spirit, pushing the Batman to his absolute limit as a hero, and this role was nailed by Ledger. They are both perfect actors for what their films intended them to be. There is no one that is better, because these are two completely different films. Even Phoenix himself bowed in respect to Ledger when he was receiving his awards.

That confidence and unpredictability when he walks on stage is pure Joker. Like it's not even Arthur anymore.

the makeup room scene is Arthur talking to Murray, he's nice got that friendly vibe but the moment he's waiting for his introduction thats when The Joker enter
He thought these were his last minutes - for he was about to kill himself -, so he wasn't stressed, like nothing matters anymore.
His transformation always starts from his left. See how he raises his left arm in the beginning of the dance. It's a transference that is happening.
That's because Arthur's no longer there, Joker is born to the world at that moment

I think that was when Joker changed his mind about how the segment would end. When he decided to kill Murray instead of himself
Arcann yeah you can see the look on his face of pure hatred at that moment
What’s wrong with playing a clip?
Daryl Lander the clip is making a mockery out of Arthur. Playing it once was bad enough for him, but at that point Murray basically rubbed it in. It’s bullying essentially.
The thing people misunderstood about the movie, is that he is not descending into madness. He is getting out of it. As he goes forward, he has less delusions about an imaginary relationship, less uncontrollable laughter and more self confidence and control over himself. He is becoming normal, in a crazy world.
I like to think he’s not becoming normal, just self aware.
Yeah no lol 😂 the point of the movie is it's his narrative. The real events probably didn't go down like this, probably similar, but this is what he was seeing. It's literally a character study. I don't think anyone who would laugh about taking a life is normal 😂 . He's a living delusion, that's what makes him Batman's greatest foe. He's the hero of his own story. Him and Batman are both madmen , with opposing goals. Batman is exactly what you described. Everyone thinks he's strange, he just sees the world for what it is. Joker just be talking out his ass but sees the world as he perceives. Far from normal
@@keytrononit3 I did not say he became a good person, he is just starting to fit into what is normal in Gotham. Yea, in a more comic book style world it could work better. But as hard as it is, try to empathize with him a little. He was constantly victimized by everyone, and taken for a loon. He wanted to commit suicide in public, so maybe people would understand how miserable he feels. Instead, he kills someone, which means he finally started to express his hatred outward, not inward. Again, he did not became a good person, he just taken control, and did what he wanted, with no regrets.
That’s correct
Rofl OK
The moment before he came out was one of the most tense I’ve ever felt in a cinema. The anticipation about what might happen was incredible
I love this movie and the entire scene from where he's backstage to where he is done shooting Murray and holds the camera. Those, what, 8 minutes (?) of acting address things that you experience as a bullied person in such a short span of time on film. The gaslighting once you confront your bully as they pretend to or genuinely don't remember insulting/ assaulting you, when you finally confront them , they play the victim and as if they don't deserve the full throated confrontation/ a*kicking they are finally getting. And the audience of ppl that watched them bully you for god knows how long will suddenly jump to the bully's defense, chiding the bullied person for going too far. It's an amazing piece of work, this movie, because it touches on some very ugly human stuff that only chronically bullied people could ever truly understand. That said, I'm grateful AF I got bullied so horribly at school in the years before social media. Made me tough as nails. Kids nowadays though have no escape from it with social media. It follows them everywhere. At least I knew when I went home from school, I was safe until the next morning at school.
If you're being bullied on social media, how about not looking at social media? But what would I know...
So true--especially how it's the bully who gets others' support while the victim gets chastised. It's crazy how pervasive that is.

That was not joke that was joker's magic
wrong movie Lol
Anyone who's been insulted never forgets it.
Joker is one of the best movies so far in the 21st century. That movie changes you.
Ledgers Joker: *Creates Madness* Joaquin Joker: *Madness creates him*
I mean, I say "I made you" you gotta say "you made me." I mean, how childish can you get?
Nicholson joker: was already mad. Falling into criminals just made him worse. Leto joker: drives viewers mad.
The Joker was just giving back to the community...
Ledgers joker got a lot of suicide pity was never that good.
LEGO Joker: Created in a Danish factory.
One of the most deserved Oscars ever won. I feel like Joaquin taking on this role took 2-5 years off his life
Really. It was a really good movie, and really good acting by all the actors in the film. Joaquin Phoenix deserved the Oscar.
he said multiple times this was just a job to him lol I doubt it did anything
@@duzted most actors say the same thing, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t take a toll on their bodies. Look at Christian Bale’s weight loss and gain and loss and gain over and over again.. in my opinion, it does have an affect
@@Zecodar thats a valid point
ive lost decades of my life even without killing myself mental health can take a huge toll on you especially if its goin on for years i feel like the joker. its like they made a movie of me
And this people, is why you don't step on those who are down. They have nothing to lose
Just watched this movie for the first time over the weekend. Phoenix is amazing in this movie!! It DID deserve all the hype and praise it received.
Phoenix was great in the role. The movie as a whole, however, was not good and was overhyped. I'm terribly sorry 😬
@@wet-read You can blame the media for that saying it will cause an incel violence making more people go see the film for themselves
@@joscar062 🤔 Maybe. I think the chief reason is that it is about the most popular comic book villain of all time. Besides, what else would people expect from a Joker origin story?
There’s something so eerie about the way he stares at the stage, stone faced, while they’re making fun of him at 2:03. He’s spent the entirety of the movie up until this point embarrassed by his inability to control the spectrum of his emotions. But I think it’s at this exact moment, that he decides he’s past the point of having his feelings hurt. He’s finally made the permanent ascension from sadness to rage. He’s no longer looking to please those who have ostracized him his entire life. He’s looking to punish them.
There's a line earlier in the movie, "I used to think that my life was a tragedy, but now I realize, it’s a comedy.", that illustrates that Joker's journey in the movie isn't from sadness to rage - it's from having the world tragically impose itself on him, to imposing himself comedically on the world.
And the whole time his laughing condition never flared up once that dance was completely joker taking over
Isnt this what a lot of us go through? Hurting ourself for others mistakes and then coming tk a point where we decide not to let our feelings be hurt. And in turn turning to rage to protect our self
the Joker’s dance right before the curtains went up can also be considered foreshadowing. Arthur danced in the subway restroom after killing the 3 guys that bullied him on the train.
I would love to do the same
I like how the women says if joker has sexual problems and when he gets introduced, comes out and kisses her on purpus basically trolling her.
@Paul Odenfield lol i was little tipsy when i wrote this.
@Paul Odenfield I am a terrible human being that judges people.
I can't tell if this is the copied comment but this is the same comment as someone else's, just changed up a bit.

This movie is like 2 hours of pain, but you can't stop watching. And that lonely cello...? Man, the score on this is legendary af.

@@mito88 How about another joke?
This scene was the birth of an icon.
Why do i see u everywhere
Do you live in youtube tf i see you everywhere
And what about the moment when Arthur Fleck kills the 3 wall street guys on the Subway??
@Freedomlanders United Someone doesn’t have to be a good person to be an icon.
This scene was the birth of a Legend
The moment he’s behind stage smoking and listening to the audience watching and laughing at his failure is truly a masterpiece. You can tell how hurt he is by his cold stare. It was then he saw Murray not as his hero, but an enemy that must be dealt with.

In my opinion, this is when he fully fits into the Joker suit, literally and figuratively.
@@fantasticfrank85fantastic61 Ok?
the struggle in Arthur's voice when he says, "I don't believe in that, I don't believe in anything" made me so sad.
It made me say that the only person he looked up to made fun of him.
Just imagine this but Arthur is perfectly stable and is just a comedian in a costume.

Also "Nolantards" is commonly used by people who don't understand what makes nolan films great. And Ledger is surely not just for teenagers, it's for everyone who understand deep characters.
Exactly

Phoenix’s joker is the most captivating yet terrifying at the same time. The brilliance of his acting really brings out the essence of the character.
A small thing I noticed in this scene: the way Joker subtly looks at the floor and smiles to himself when Gene says the "audience will go nuts" over him. As if to say "Oh, they'll go nuts all right."
you wanna go nuts? let's get nuts!
the part when he is standing backstage with the cigarette in his hand and listening to his laugh, that part makes me cry alot
Yes, you can almost think he hated himself for that. His disorder was like a life sentence he didn't asked for. He couldn't help it. I feel so bad for that poor guy
Koba1066 Lenk what’s even sad is his clip is a joke about his childhood dream. He was never allowed to be happy
@@Oakland510unfortunately life could be like hell
Koba1066 Lenk and It was for Arthur. His mind literally only had two solutions left to deal with it. 1:34 or manage to transform into a persona that could handle all the stress, abuse and problems. Please Welcome Joker
Shorouk Khaled bro, you need help. I’m not even memeing. you should not be crying over the joker.
I like how his initial intent was to off himself as punishment for all his problems but something twist in his mind and turn it against everybody else, as if a realization struck his mind, that the problem is not him is the city.
Yeah
Or the Society
2:02 there came that realisation. That he would forever be a joke as Arthur fleck. It was time instead to make a mockery of the world and people and be born again as joker with that transformation dance
It was the part where he found out about what his mom did that made the twist
I know it seems really dark but i was hoping for him start going of at the people in the show to but it would have been probably to much to handle for a lot of people already hating on this masterpiece!
This is what is call acting! I feel the pain and hopelessness
