We Cannot Heal Alone with Rabbi Sharon Brous | A Bit of Optimism Podcast

Loneliness is now an epidemic, with devastating impacts on our health. How can we rekindle the deep human connection we need now more than ever?
For Rabbi Sharon Brous, this question is the focus of her work. Considered one of the most influential rabbis in the U.S., she’s founded her own congregation and has led multiple White House faith events. In her new book, The Amen Effect, Sharon explores how grief and heartbreak can be gateways to truly seeing each other.
Sharon and I talk about what it means to be present to someone else’s pain and how a 2,000-year old ritual taught her the meaning of healing together.
This…is A Bit of Optimism.

  • Whoever is going through a difficult time may God keep them in his loving arms and guide them through their lives. He will send you messages through people , dreams, signs etc.. I have a wonderful 97 year lady who always says I pray for you and light up my candle 🕯️ for you. If you can’t see them pray for them, light a candle your energy travels and reaches to those people. Bad and negative energies do the same. Life is like playing with a boomerang. Our thoughts, words and actions come back with astonishing accuracy sooner or later.

  • I really needed to see this today. I'm ashamed to say about a week ago I gave up on a friend who is in terrible pain and loneliness, because I can't fix it and make him happy and he can't get out of the mud. I have been trying to drag him out, and I'm in tears watching this because I realize that now. I was angry I couldn't. I was angry he didn't appreciate intentions. I was angry I was giving more than he was. I'm going to talk to him as soon as possible today and apologize, let him know I was wrong, that I'm there for him, and that I will sit in the mud as long as he needs me to.

  • One of the monikers of the pandemic was the emergence of, "It's OK to not be OK." It did not take me very long to admit that I was not OK. That was met with silence. Those people are not in my life any more. I WILL NEVER LET ANYONE'S ADMITTANCE OF PAIN BE MET WITH SILENCE IN MY PRESENCE AGAIN. They may isolate us, but they will never take away our humanity!

  • AMEN, is the expression of agreement, confirmation, or desire used in worship by Jews, Christians, and Muslims. The basic meaning of the Semitic root from which it is derived is “firm,” “fixed,” or “sure,” and the related Hebrew verb also means “to be reliable” and “to be trusted.” The Greek Old Testament usually translates amen as “so be it”; in the English Bible it has frequently been rendered as “verily,” or “truly.” According to Brittanica
