Stef is well on his way to surpassing almost all of them in terms of titles, he’s already won more masters than Ferrer and Berdych and the same amount as Tsonga, plus he’s won a Tour Finals which none of those 3 ever managed. All while still being only 24. If he wins a grand slam at some point he will have matched Delpo as well.

  • It was very nice from Carlos that he didn’t destroy Tsitsipas in less than two hours. His level was just unbelievable until the first two match points. After the second set he had more winners than unforced and forced errors combined. That’s as close to perfection in elite tennis level as it can get. I felt sorry for Stefanos even though I was rooting for Alcaraz. The 5:3 game in the third was a very kind little choke. Although he can’t afford to drop his level like that on Friday. • JCF said Carlos played at 60% of his potential to win the 2022 US open. The first 2.5 sets of this game have to be at least 75% of his potential. In fact 100% might just be playing consistently at that level for the rest of his career. He was doing things I have never seen anyone do in a tennis match, let alone in the quarter-finals of a grand slam against the n.5 in the world. Perhaps only a Sinner at the very top of his game might resist such onslaught. Carlos himself told Alex Corretja in Spanish after the match that he had just played the best 2 sets of his career so far. It's unlikely Carlos will be able to keep this level against Novak, but Novak should watch this match carefully to come up with strategies, should this near-God-mode Carlos show up on Friday.

But still even if he beats Alcaraz he will be drained for the finals, but I do hope that they can provide us with possibly match of the year. Djokovic and Rafa do this as well from time to time. When they are certain of the outcome. Carlos was never in any doubt, even though he dropped his intensity dramatically in the 3rd. I mean Stef has said all those nice things about him lately. He let him save face a bit 😅

  • Mr T sacrifices the strategic advantage with his single hander backhand. He loses ground with it. I liked when he used more height with it but then Alcaraz started coming forwards, but that was the right idea. The advantage of the single hander is disguise and variation, which T doesn't use (aside from volleying); I'm thinking short slices like Ash Bartey, knifed slices (not his floaters), BH dropshots, more use of the angles, a half volley block/repost like Fed. But mostly he just needs to be able to maintain depth with his backhand, especially on clay
