Use foam earplugs for the holes and threaded sections. They're cheap and fit most sizes.
Thank you for the valuable clarification, for our viewers it will be very useful information. AUTODOC
Obviously, this caliper is a paid actor.
🗿
🗿
Very nice restoration. Autodoc must also produce restoration videos rather than only installations. 👍
Thanks for the recommendation, we'll take that into account. AUTODOC
the fact that these vids are also recorded in stereo, doubling as ASMR, is just incredible!!
Thank you for your feedback! We are pleased to hear that you liked our video.
You should remoove the phosforic acid dust before painting. And you should mention it because without my comment most people dont know what liquid you've put on.
Thanks for the clarification! We are sure that your comment will be useful to many of our viewers.
What do you use to remove the phosphoric acid?
Is that what it is at 3:42?
One small problem, you shouldn’t paint the part of the carrier where the brake pad ears slide on. It should be a metal to metal interface rather than metal to paint, for obvious reasons. Just greasing that part will stop it rusting anyway.
Makes absolutely no difference, thats what the shoes and copper grease are for. Been running 2 different sets of home painted calipers for over 3 years and never once had an issue with the paint getting on the pad.
@@_vindicator_ There can be the issue of thick layers of paint making the spaces tighter than required.
@@inq752 yeah, but thats way less of a concern than the fact 50% the hardware you get now is oversized because the aftermarket didn't get the spec right. China and friends: teaching a whole new generation how to "make it fit".
@smack1289 It might cause an issues once the paint will start flaking off, the raod is not a clean enviorment debree can get stuck on the paint or the paint can be contaminated with something causeing it swelling . its probably very unlikly all of that will happen but i wont take my chances
it looks cooler with the paint
nice overview, i wouldve added a few more things: 1) main specs that should be checked before even attempting to restore the caliper. ive had the joy of completely restoring a caliper and then finding out that some parameters were out of spec and having to ditch it all. 2) cylinder honing - when the cylinders/pistons have corrosion, then honing usually gets it better 3) bleeder screw purgatory - how to get seized bleeder screws out and how to restore the holes without messing it all up. In screws that have not been serviced for a long time, the screw threads can be completely corroded to dust. This dust can re enter the fluid system and contaminate it. When drilling and rethreading its important not to damage the conical shaped bottom of the screw hole as its a fine-sealing with the screw and restoring that is a struggle on its own.
We are sure that your comment will be useful for many of our viewers.
Great video! I would suggest more description of what step you are doing or some minimal narration to make it easier to follow/understand.
The paint should be temperature resistant. A better way to use powder paints and an oven. But anyway it's better than keeping it as it is.
love these asmr restoration videos even i had a car accident last October 24th my w204 benz was wrecked and driving my ek hatch with destroyed suspension front and back. hope you made videos of 1996-2000 civic hatchback suspension restoration videos as well
Much prefer this style of video, say compared to your V70 strut replacement video. Please consider doing repair videos in this format as well.
We will take it into account definitely. Stay tuned with us. AUTODOC
*_Wow. That was a dang work of art! Nice job._*
Great video - just one thing to add.... I have never seen an ATE caliper (which is one in this video) have the dust boot fit on this easy - It's always a massive struggle to get the boot to sit onto the caliper!
We are sure that your comment will be useful for many of our viewers.
This is almost like ASMR :)
Zajebiste te filmy! Tak trzymać!
Excellent job. Lots of patience. I'm sure that was very satisfying for you ..
Хорошая реставрация 💪
I found that very satisfying and therapeutic to watch 👍😉
Very Nice !!! I love that' Orange !!! I've never done em' in that Color. They look fantastic 💥 🛠
Also!!! Use disposable ear buds for any holes, instead of paper towel. 🤙 excellent work
We're sure your comment will be helpful to many of our viewers.
shouldn't you have used a break hone to keep that spin pattern and decrease risk of leaks?
Masters at work
No. They NEVER come apart this easy !! They need restoration because everything has rusted helplessly together !
They probably took all the parts out once and put them back in so it's easier the second time when they're recording. For entertainment purposes
Great video and info!! What is the stuff you used to brush on the caliber? Thank you!!👍💯
It's a rust converter.
What was the stuff that he painted them with and left them in the trays?
He must loved that callipers so much
Finally this video - caliper restoration is one of the most common thing for DYI and worth some interesting amount of money. I've restored many of them but there is always one issue - how long a particular procedure combined with some products LASTS in real life. Some "restored" calipers are rusting again after couple of weeks and it looks good only on KZhead when it's just finished :) I might try AutoDoc's way of doing it. Fingers crossed.
Most DIY guys cannot restore calipers. They are mainly replaced.
There's nothing like a bit of Do Yourself It ;)
The calipers are from a ford focus?
was that an aluminium screwdriver or rubber cause if not those pistons are going to leak brake fluid
Very well done! Bravo!
They look good
didnt expect orange calipers to look good
Zelo lepa izvedba prenove .
Nice job
I enjoyed it. I'd like it if you wrote on the screen what you were using at the time, so novices like me could learn from it. I'd like to do a project like this. I'd be interested in powder coating them as well. I thought you needed something to compress the..... What is it called...... The cylinder that touches the brake pad.... I'd need to know how to bleed brakes as well. Like I said: novice.
Yes, you need a tool to compress the cylinder like when you just change the brake pads. So when you do that, you don't have to plug out the brake line, so the cylinder is under pressure.
You need it for rear ones that have integrated parking brake cartridges in
@@arongazsi I've got a lot to learn 😊
Good vid, my take is that I've done 4 calipers with the MOTIP red and the primer isn't neccessary. Do 3 coats on a well cleaned caliper and it will look exactly like this and won't peel.
Hi! Thank you for sharing your experience, it will be very useful information for us and our viewers.
Hi the video is perfect. I have to make the seme job with subaru svx calipers. Could you please tell what is the paint name on 3.50? Thank you
Hi! Thank you for your comment. In this case, we used a rust converter. You can get acquainted with the goods for the car here www.autodoc.co.uk/spares-search?keyword=Rust+Converter
Satisfying
muito top👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
What was the stuff he brushed on after spraying it with brake/clutch cleaner?
Isopropyl alcohol
Harika oldu
Great stuff my guy! You’re making me look bad 😂 🍻
Thanks for your positive comment! Stay with us!
Doesn’t the grease on the piston mix with the brake fluid and contaminates it?
This is a special lubricant that does not affect the condition of the brake fluid.
3:22 This scene took me to heaven.🤩
Dorito Engine sound :D
Those video would perfect if only the product used to clean or grease would be written on screen as you use them, would make for a much easier tutorial to follow
Эти видео были бы идеальными, если бы на экране было написано только название продукта, используемого для чистки или смазки, когда вы их используете, и это значительно облегчило бы обучение.
what is that grease that you use for the ruber and cylinder? Where do you buy it?
@@2000noahms No, thats red rubber grease they used there. You shouldn't use silicon grease on parts that will contact brake fluid.
that grease should be included in the repair kit.
The color is more like a McLaren Orange.
A piston would never come out like that
What primer used in video? On the link given to car paints hundreds of primers and very poorly or not at all described application for products offered.
We used a heat-resistant primer.
I’m painting my calipers the same exact way and while the painting process I see this video 😂
Thank you for sharing your story with us!
Where can you get the wire brush you used to clean the calliper body and the bracket
You can get acquainted with the goods and select the necessary ones at the link www.autodoc.co.uk/spares-search?keyword=Wire+Brush&page=2
What is this paint here 3:45 please?
what is the name of the manual sander? 3:16
what did you put on the piston to slide in?
Thank you for your feedback! Please clarify or rephrase your question, and clarify the timing of the fragment in the video.
What lubricant is used to install the piston?
The mechanic used the grease that is included in the repair kit.
Посадочние места колодок красить не стояло, при корозии колодки зажимает через краску
Dip the seals in new brake oil before inserting them.
3:55 what is used in this part? Guess it something to convert all the rust that is left but what exactly is it
Hi! Thanks for your question, in this case we used a rust converter. You can get acquainted with the goods for the car here www.autodoc.co.uk/spares-search?keyword=Rust+Converter.
@@autodocuk Thank You very much for Your answer, I appreciate that ❤️
it's like a rust blueing or black oxide kind of the same thing in the firearms industry . we use it to rust proof barrels and parts to turn them black or blue . hence the gun metal blue color or Grey. it essentially makes an active rust stop rusting . creates a barrier for oxidation
pleas clin of disk break show
great to see Autodoc doing a refresh.. but 6:20 I couldn't help noticing all the areas he missed...
Hi! This information is individual for each model of car and you can find it in the technical documentation for repair of your vehicle.
These look like GTI Golf calipers. Nice job.
Hi! Thanks for your feedback! We are glad that you like our work. Stay tuned for updates.
at least their restoration videos are better than their customer service
Hi! Thank you for the feedback, we are happy that you appreciate our work.
what is the base (primer) color?
It was grey prime.
So, this is the ASMR everybody is talking about? 🙃
get sandblaster. It will reduce work hours much more.
good :)
how long does it take?
long enough to just buy a new replacement caliper and paint that instead.
Hell, you'll probably save money from buying the whole caliber from Autodoc than buying the repair kit and do all these fine detail cleaning and risk doing something wrong.
What did you brush on @ 3:40?
It is cleaning the inside of the caliper from pockets of corrosion and dirt.
@@autodocuk thank you, but'm just wondering what is the liquid is that you used?? 🙏🏽
Any professional should buy in autodoc.
Buy some new ones and paint them before fitting.
We are sure that your comment will be useful to many of our viewers.
Beautiful work. I like it even without stupid elevator music and just listen the spray shhh shhh shhh..... click click....
From what vehicle is this brake caliper?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to answer your question.
top tips blasting mine cost £10 ea Replace ALL bolts and nipples with new ones Old bolts and nipples can be left in place while painting
We are sure that your comment will be useful for many of our viewers.
Why not sandblast it?
Wouldn't using white vinegar and time, be better for removing the rust.... Rather than creating all of that dust?
Unfortunately, we do not have such information.
no its not
Great to see all the KZhead certified mechanics in the comments 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
¿¿¿que tipo de grasa es la grasa esta roja, y también que es esa grasa blanca que echaste con una brocha??? //// what kind of fat is the fat is red, and also what is that white fat that you put with a brush???
Hi! Thanks for your question, in this case we used the red grease from the caliper repair kit, and the tool that was applied with a brush is a rust converter.
Are these Mazda 3 calipers by any chance?
It is not possible to answer your question clearly.
VW
A słyszałeś o czymś takim jak piaskowanie?!
Sandblasting will be better .... then vapor blasting
k2 z napisami po polsku ? to wy jesteście z polski ?
sandblasting?
Thanks for the clarification, we'll take that into account in future videos.
3:43 what is it pls ?
this is a rust converter, you can get acquainted and select it at www.autodoc.co.uk/spares-search?keyword=Rust+Converter AUTODOC
me prefer media blasting...
Never seen orange vw calipers not a bad job
We are glad that this video was useful to you!
I guess it's to reflect the autodoc logo and for being useful to you
not all calipers are the same
We cannot show all the nuances and problems during replacement; this is all individual and it is not always possible to solve them at home. To avoid this, we always recommend that replacements be carried out by car specialized services.
💪
❤
All that work… and you show us a 3 second shot of the finished product…
Well, thats nine and a half minutes of my life I will never get back.
If you were still disappointed at minute 6 then why keep watching till the end? 😉
At 9:11 you should have taught us how you applied the twisted skewers to the black brake pads..!!! But you didn't...!!!
We recommend paying attention to manufacturers such as NGK, Denso, Beru, and Bosch.
Only 3 more to do 🤦🏻
I could not be bothered doing all that just for calipers🙄🙄
Thanks for your feedback! Please clarify or rephrase your question.
I’ll just buy new calipers
👍👍👍💣💣💣💥💥💥
WEAR A MASK! Breathing in rust dust...not good!!
